I've just bought a Jabra BT800 bluetooth headset in Singapore. I connect the headset with my O2 XDA Mini, but the Caller ID function doesnt work properly.
Jabra BT800 work well if an incoming call that is not in my contacts. It shows the phone number.
But in case of the incoming call is in my contacts, eg: First name="Home", Number="123456789", I only see some unknow characters, yes, it's funny, it's not English or any language of mankind, I dont know exactly what is it? It's not ASCII text for sure.
If I rename from "Home" to "Home12345", it'll shows some unknow characters and "12345".
It's only number can be displayed properly, yes, number only.
But my Jabra BT800 works very well with the SonyE T610 of my friend and my XDA Mini works very well with his HBH-660.
What the hell are going on?
There is problem with my XDA Mini only or all XDA Mini? or BT800?
Somebody has experience about this problem? Pls help me! Any solution?
Thanks in advance!
Jabra BT800 V0020

It is funny.
I am sure you have english version of Windows Mobile 2003 SE Phone edition.
Also, they are both bluetooth 1.2.
Are the caller id display immediatelly when there is a call? Or do you need to press any button to display caller id?
Mine with HBH-660 must press a button first.
Thanks.
Arto
Yes the caller id is displayed nearly immediatelly. It's not necessary to press any button, also with HBH-660, I'm sure for that, I've tested many times.
Hello! Just curious if there was any update / solution to this?
I have the same problem with my JAM. Pic below of what it looks like. While trying to get a good pic of the display I called my phone like 10/15 times and it did pick up my number a couple times.. the other tries resulted in the strange characters below.

@MLJ471: Exactly it is the same trouble with me. And I've asked technical dept of Jabra and this is their answer:
"...We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems on your BT800 headset. Jabra BT800 headset is designed to work optimally with devices that support the Bluetooth Handsfree profile. Caller ID display function is phone dependant. That is to say, most of Bluetooth handset with headset profile only does not support caller ID display, and most of Bluetooth handset with handsfree profile displays either the phone Nos. or Name from phone book. For example, Nokia 6600, 7610, Motorola V600, A835, SE K700i, T610 which support Bluetooth handsfree profile are able to show either number or name, but Panasonic X70 with handsfree profile can’t display either one. So it totally depends on the individual phone’s Bluetooth feature and nothing relates to headset quality.
For O2 XDA II mini phone, it supports Bluetooth headset profile and displays caller ID no. only. When the incoming call no. is stored in contact list, it simply doesn’t display or with jumbled character.
Now we are on collecting some more information so that to feedback R & D engineers. This will help them to find out the cause and try to find a solution on this. As we know, BT800 software can be updated. We hope that we are going to release a new software and better compatible with this phone. For sure we will keep you informed once available. Before that, we suggest that the headset work with Moto V3/V600, SE P910i/T630, etc which can display caller ID names.
For your information, you can update the XDA II Mini with the latest software from www.seeo2.com ..."
You can wait for the update from Jabra or O2 (nobody knows when). I can not wait so that I used HBH-660 instead of BT800.
The caller ID function of HBH-660 works very well with XDA Mini.
Note: I've heard from my friend that his T-Mobile MDA Compact that was updated the lastest JAM ROM including the bluetooth pacth from iMate club can work properly with BT800 even Caller ID function.
Awesome, thanks!
"Note: I've heard from my friend that his T-Mobile MDA Compact that was updated the lastest JAM ROM including the bluetooth pacth from iMate club can work properly with BT800 even Caller ID function."
I will look into upgrading the rom and see what happens. Now I just have to remember my login name to Imate club heh ;/ . Appreciate the info!
Well, I have upgraded to the newest WWE ROM now, and I am stuck in the same place I was before....my CALLER ID on the BT800 does not work at all....All I get is a blank screen with a yes or no selection.
I've upgraded my rom also on the JAM and i'm still having the same problems w/ the BT800. If the number is in my contacts list I get the above screen or nothing at all. The unit sounds awesome and people hear my clearly.. but if this cant be solved i'm going to a Nextlink AX. Got the bt800 because of the caller ID.
What about the SE HBH-660?...Does it work better then with Jabra 800?...the caller ID is working or not?
Regards,
Primoz
I'm using HBH-660 with XDA Mini ROM 1.03 WWE. The Caller ID works well. For new bluetooth connections, sometime HBH-660 displays the calling number instead of the name (after 4 seconds) but it always displays something can understand (better than BT800 absolutely).
**MLJ471
Do you have the bluetooth tools installed, or anything special?
Na I did not, no special bluetooth tools/etc.
I already returned my BT800.. until Jabra can release some new firmware that can fix it then i'm going to be using the AX.
Jabra BT800 versus Sony HBH-660 with my Jam
Hi everyone,
I had the Jabra BT800 for a couple of days, but it's not really compatible right now. I had the same problems that the other folks had here. Sometimes the caller ID would show up, but most of the time I got the unreadable characters. Making a phone call from the headset was a cool idea, but it's harder to make a call while driving with the BT800 versus taking the phone out and speed dialing. I really wanted the BT800 to work with my Jam, but it was bust.
I then ordered a Sony HBH-660 and guess what, it works! The caller ID feature works all the time. For the most part I only get the phone number with the area code (USA T-Mobile service). Today I was in shock when a friend called me and his name showed up on the headset, that was cool, but I have no idea why his name showed up and not his number like everyone else. I'm very happy with the HBH-660 and hope they come out with a version that dials out. I also like the the battery life display (BT800 also has that). The sound quality is good and I really like the price. I bought one from an eBay person brand new for $85 delivered. Not too bad for a cool device.
Hope this helps someone,
GP
HBH-200
I had HBH-200, which got a caller ID feature. At the begining it could not show anything on its screen, until i installed the HandsFree profile update. It started to show the caller Numbers only. I could not make it show the Caller Name.
Any ideas how can we make it?
Does anyone know if it's possible to make a phone call without pressing any button on the S100 ? (just like with my HBH-35 and T-630 : I have to press the button on the headset, it initiates the call and after saying the contact name I want to talk to -prevently recorded in the phone- I just have to wait 2sec. and I reach him...) :?:
Voice dialling requires extra software, and I am not sure it can work without presing anything on the device.
However with my Motorola HS-810 bluetooth headset I am perfectly able to call the most recent contact on my call log. If I just press and hold the main button on the headset, the Jam will wake-up and dial it.
This is a feature of any headset that supports the hands-free profile.
It does not solve original problem, but at least it allows redialling of repetitive calls without touching the phone.
Regards.
Thanks for your answer. I know there are voice dialer on the market (Vito, Voice Commander, etc.) but I think it's not possible to activate them by pressing the "call button" on the bluetooth headset...
If someone has an idea it would be great !
BT 800
Yes, BT800 sucks.. No caller ID or name is displayed on my XDAII with 2.20 ROM, (the only one that works right with Hands Free mode). The caller ID only works, SOMETIMES, for first time callers.. Unknown and private numbers are also blank.
They are coming out with HBH 662.. It has better display.

These are better, in my opinion, because taking the Headset off to see who is calling and then having to put it back on; SUCKS..
These also play mp3 and you do not look like you just came back from a Star Trek convention!!  8)

On paper, the BT800 remains the best possible solution, if it worked properly. I do not understand the issue about having to remove the headset to check who's calling, these headsets are designed to be kept on a necklace or in your pocket, if you want an always-on headset of course you'd buy something else (but then you'll look ridiculous in the office).
The nice thing of the BT800 is that you can put the Magician in silent mode in your trousers pocket, and never take it out. The BT800 will vibrate or ring in your shirt pocket and will allow you to take or reject a call according to the caller id. Very practical in an office environment.
I really hope that the BT800 will work properly with the Magician sooner or later, or that someone else comes out with a similar headset. Caller id is not enough, it has to ring/vibrate in order to allow forgetting the Magician in some pocket or even in the briefcase. This is what the BT800 was designed for ("your mobile phone becomes the accessory").
To anyone who is still using Jabra BT800 with Magician:
Have guys upgraded your Magician ROM to the latest? I think it's QTEK's ROM: 1.11.00 WWE, Radio: 1.11.00.
If you have upgraded, does it solve the problem? If you haven't, can you try upgrading and see if it helps? If it still doesn't work, I'll probably go and buy cheaper model like Jabra BT330 that just came out.
Please see http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=112579
A user (dalamario) in this forum doesn't have problem with BT800 at all.

Guys.
Can nybody confir if the SE HBH-200 works with the XDAII? I love this bluetooth headset, but want to know if it will actually display the caller ID or number, when paired with the XDAII. I know that people with P800's had problems, and did not show caller id or call history.
No, the headset works but caller display, calling list etc won't work. The manual said it need bt headfree profile in order to get it to work.
BTW, the manual also said P800 is not on the support list.

I'm waiting for this Headset for 6 months and you are saying CALLER ID WILL NOT WORK, are you sure ?
I think i-mate/XDA II has Bluetooth Profile !
OR will it work in future? Does it need a software upgrade?
Please advice,,,
I have an XDA II and could not get it to pair with my HBH-200.
During pairinf the XDA II prompted for the PIN number and when entered the HBH-200 indicator lights went from alternating red/green to solid green indicating paring had completed but the XDA II displayed a PIN error message. This was despite the PIN being used was the correct one.
I sold off the HBH-200 and bought a HBH-60 which works great with my XDA-II

I am 100% sure because I have HBH-200 right on my hand now with my XDA2. Read thru the simple manual from HBH-200 and it said it need Bluetooth Handfree profile in order to get CALLER ID / CALLER LISt to work (which XDA2 only have handset profile !). P800 is also the same case as XDA2 ... hee hee ...
I wasted my US$120 for my HBH-200 and found out it only funciton as a HBH-65 ... but I still like it because everybody will just think I got a MP3 player but not a bluetooth handset ...
Woo ...

For HBH-200 you can actually go to MASTER RESET menu (by holding the on and off button) and reset the handfree. The master pin is always 0000 and is unchangable in this model.
I like it because it got a LCD display, even though CALLER ID won't work. I can still navigate thru different menu like changing the ring tone on the handfree !!!
:? :x
As per Carrier Devices Company (i-mate dealer), this issue will be solved by them soon...
If you can read Arabic  , find the answer from Mr. Ahmad Al-Delaimi about Handsfree Profile in i-mate  ....:

Please list what BT headset do you use with your Universal and the Pros and Cons. I'm in the market looking for the best BT headset for the Universal so I'll need as many feedbacks as possible, thanks all
As if you'd need warning, but I would (on the whole) advise against going for a cheapy clip-on one. I bought one a while ago on the basis that (a) it was cheap and (b) I didn't want to strap a 2.4GHz mini-microwave oven to my head
It works ok, but is just about fiddly enough to make me stay with a wired setup or speakerphone.
From what I've read in other posts, there isn't yet a bt headset that integrates with the ppc well enough to show the name of the caller. I think that until that one's resolved I'll be holding fire anyway.
[OK, I know it's not a particularly helpful addition to the thread, but at least it bumps it, right ]

Hi,
I hope you people can help.
I looking for a Bluetooth headset thats got a a little display.
Hopefully this will display information like time, person calling, and possible scroll through contacts.
Due to the size of the Exec, I would like to store this in a backpack when out and about. And a smartheadset would really help.
Jabra BT800
Long battery life
Quick recharge
Reliable
Light
I never look at the display, other than to see the charge status.

BT headsets with displays don't display anything other than the caller number when used with HTC devices such as the Universal. Not sure why.
Smartphones need Smartheadsets..
Its just the XDA Exec is to big to carry in your jacket pocket.
And you need to open it everytime you need to call someon.
Living in london you get some looks on the underground.
And majority of all streetcrime involves mobile crime.
I`ve been toying with the of idea of a Mini-XDA Exec....
A device that small enough to fit into your pocket.
Snycs between the headset & XDA Exec.
With a display for Caller ID, Contacts, SMS...(Basic phone functions)
This would be a top seller..
I agree this would cost but would be perfect.
No more fearing getting mugged at the station.
No more being a flash git in the pub.
No more carring a brick in your pocket.
HTC should consider designing accessories.
Both the SE HBH-608 and Jabra Bt800 workl well. The battery life on the HBH-608 is just fantastic. I get about 8 days of use from it (it is on 10 hours a day). Ear piece volume is low on both models when used with the JJ. Need to test my HBH-300 and Jabra BT330.
Edit: @rilot, for caller ID to work you need a particular BT profile, the Se P910i does support the profile, which I think is the "hand free profile"
SE HBH 662
Just got my SE HBH 662. It's small, lightweight, seems comfortable. So far sound quality seems good on both ends.
I'm new to this headset business, so I'm not the best one to offer comparisons. I bought this model based on remarks on this and other forums, and so far my impression is that I have definitely benefited from the collective wisdom of great online communities like this one.
Thanks All.
I tried with Motorola HS850 and Jabra BT 250V.. Dont think they are made for jasjar... I know both of them doesnt have Display, was hoping to good sound quality.... But I was not lucky enough.
SE HBH-300
10 hours talk time, 300 hours standy.
Sound quality on an 02 XDA Exec is okay but not as good as with an SE P910i. The XDA's bluetooth suffers from static background noise.

This is correct.
HTC state that their devices do have a handsfee profile. No idea why they can't pass the caller ID to the headset though.
Jabra BT 800 is OK with me.
*Long battery life.
*Discharging in short time.
*Big display screen.
*Big, but light.
*Easy to use.
*Can make calls from the Head Set for the last 10 Nos. without needing to open the phone.
*Reliable.
I was using sony erricson before buying the Jabra, but Jabra is far better than sony erricson........sony erricson battery dies in a couple of hours standby.
Regards,
I did try my hbh-660 just to see if it would work but shortly after changed over to my preferred bluespoon AX which works fine with the voice dialling etc. no issues there for me

Guys, the phone number is the exact caller ID you're after. It is working as advertised. However, what you want is the _name_ behind the caller ID. Not sure if this is specified in the bluetooth specs, though...
problem with Jabra bt800
Has anybody experienced a crap sound with Jabra?
I can hear pretty well, but the person on the other side complains a "drummy" sound.
I tried deleting the pairing and restoring it, same results.
Any thought?
I use the HBH-662, very comfortable, shows the number, has improved the voice quality 10 fold and sounds alot better than using the phone itself, dont use my phone without it anymore regardless of where i am.
This is strange. My SE HBH-662 (BT 1.2) works perfectly with my Jam and shows the caller-id as long as the number exists in the Outlook AB. IT doesn't show the number then, just the name. In the absence of a name, it will show the number only.

No it isn't
They both display the caller name when used with my SE P910i
Jabra has release a firmware upgrade for the BT800. Has anybody else tried it? I upgraded mine yesterday and it does transfer the sound to the headset much faster. But I'm disappointed because Caller ID doesn't work at all. It used to work with the original firmware, at least showed the caller's number (with the + sign).
I already tried it by uninstalling Mort Ring and still no Caller ID.
I`ve just also loaded this upgrade, it seems to ver.32 new one. 21 is now. What was your version? I did not upgrade yet, waiting result of your experiment. Try to reupgrade
I started a thread in http://www.4winmobile.com/viewtopic.php?p=4949#4949 since I learned about the upgrade from 4winmobile.com and wasn't getting any reaction from here.
I just tested the BT800 on my 1.12 (radio 1.13) Jam.
The caller ID worked partially. It did not show the database name, but the number instead.
The Jabra had the latest available firmware installed and the audio quality was really good!
When we tried ending the call, the BT800 froze up. I don't have a slightest clue about it. I blame everything on the MS stack
Perhaps it works better with the stack extender available in the forum?
I never had the name showing up just the tel. no. and was quite happy about it since a lot of bt800 users were complaining that they get garbled characters in the display.

I can't remember where I read it, but some guy was saying that he was able to get the number and contact name to display on the BT800/Jam combo by exporting the contacts to the SIM card...I suppose it is worth a try. Maybe I'm going to go down an pick up a BT800 myself.
Thanks for the tip Matterhorn but still no Caller ID. The other point is that my S100 is for both business and personal use and I have close to 200 entries in my phonebook, each entry having a minimum of 3 numbers. A SIM card can hold only 250.
Before the software upgrade was done, the BT800 displayed the tel. no. of the caller wether the caller is on my phonebook or not, and that was enough for me knowing that the S100 and the BT800 are not compatible.
After a long exchange of emails between Jabra and myself, finally they request me to ship my BT800 for replacement to their repair center in Holland.
Hi!
I was about to buy another bluetooth headset and am seriously considering the jabra bt800.
I had a Jabra bt250v....which recently took a spin in my washing machine, now rendered worthless
The problems with my 250v were -
1. Lots of static noise (phone in my pocket)
2. Bad range
3. Most times, the voice dial wouldnt pick up, when i hit the button on the jabra (this i think is a ms ppc os problem though)
Having said that, i think the bt800 would be better due to their new DSP technology, and of course the btooth 1.2 specifications. A few questions i have though -
1. How is the audio quality when you keep your device in a tight jeans pant for instance?
2. Whats the range of the device?
3. Does the caller id display the name in my address book?
4. How's the battery life?
And the last question, is it worth buying it....and will i regret it???!
Thanks!
San
With the Universal:
- okay sound quality
- no caller name just number on the display
- good battery life as long as you run down before first full charge
- range is good but is limited by the Universal not the BT800
Yes it is worth buying but be aware that on the ear it may not feel as secure as the BT250

I heard some of the devices, when paired with, reveal the contact name in the address book too....i saw it on a couple reviews. Strange that the universal cant do something like that...
Have you tried with the latest Jasjar ROM? (with aku2?)
Thanks for your feedback Jah...
cheers,
S
@dreamtheatre, I have not tried the latest Universal ROM as I am waiting for O2 to release their version. But I do have the latest BT800 firmware for Europe. For transfer of the Contacts details you need the handfree BT profile (or is the heaset profile?) - not sure if the latest ROM supports both BT profiles though.
I have not got that working
More to the point, I can not find any settings on my universal or BT800 for remote sim or remote contact access which is needed to access the address book.
I would love to leave my universal in my bag and make a call from the headset accessing my address book.
I see no menu in the BT800 to allow this.
Hope I am wrong and someone can tell em how to do it!
I have latest t-mobile a2dp rom and latest jabra rom
@GDawes, I don't think the BT800 allows remote access, it allows previously used numbers (people who call you) to be called from the headset. I think the Tekkeon ET3000 gives you the function to access the address book, but not with the Universal as fas I know.

I guess my question wasn't lucid enough....
what I meant to ask was...if the display on the headset shows the caller's name which is taken from the address book on the device.
Does it?? please tell me it does!
thanks,

BT800
The BT800 does not show the name even with the latest ROM. It only shows the number of the person that is calling you.
@dreamtheatre,
there are two functions:
1. When you get a call, the name of the caller is extracted from the address book
2. You can scan through your full address book from your headset to make a call
Now, for #1 I know you need both handfree and headset BT profiles, for #2 I have only seen the Tekkeon and I think some SE headsets that claim they can do this. But I think you need both BT profiles. I do not think this is the case for the Universal. I hope someone with the latest ROM can verify the BT profiles that are supported.
(my free Moto v3x supports both BT profiles and yes with my Tekkeon I can see who is calling me - but the HTC Universal may be behind the curve a bit)

well, you guys still didnt answer my question........
do i buy it or not??????!!!
best,
San
@dreamtheatre, after a bit of reflection I suggest you buy a modern SE BT headset with caller ID as the DSP capability (for reducing background noise etc) of the newer SE headset will better than the 2 year old design of the BT800. Also I have found the newer SE headsets to be more comfortable and lighter.
Another annoying point of bt800
The BT800 only pairs to a single device at a time.
My moto ht820 support multiple connections which is nice, I have my universal as my phone paired, and my magician with a2dp paired as an mp3 player. When I get a call it is routed throught headset and music is paused.
Wanted to connect my BT800 to laptop for Voip and mobile phone, but forced to choose 1 the other.
Also the design is not that re assuring , have the feeling it could fall off at any moment
I have the V3 BTH-8 and Im quite happy with it. i think it's cheaper, lighter, faster, better than Jabra bt800...but Im not ecstatic since it has the same problem as BT800. It just shows the number not the name. It says it's able to show the name and even browse the phone book of other models.. but not our beloved universal. I hope someone comes out with an upgrade for our phone so that i can maximize my V3 headset..

After i saw your earlier post where you mentioned about your oled headset, thats ever since i've been thrown into a dilemma (i never knew the v3 headset existed!). Now i'm finding it hard to make a choice...
According to the feature sheet, the oled claims more (15 number history compared to 10 - i know i'm being a little anal here , and address book browsing etc.)
The problem though, I dont seem to find a distributor here in this god forsaken place
I'm trying to get it from a friend of mine who's currently in singapore....if he manages to find it, i might just end up with one of those....lets see
btw, ca....you have no major issues with it, do you? Stuff like static noise, or interference problems, or whatever may be! ??
cheers,
S
I have both the Jabra BT800 and the Tekkeon 3000. Both are good units but the Jabra has better sound quality when used with my Exec. I have also used both units with a XDA Mini S for about 2 weeks and came to the same conclusion. With the Mini S, I was able to pull the phone book but it was a pain. It allows you to scroll from a to z one name at a time, one number per name at a time. This means that if you have say 50 names with 2 numbers each (mobile number and home number) then you would have to press the button 20 times just to get to the 10 person in my phonebook and the second number for that person. When I first read about this feature I was exicited but in application it is a pain so this is not a feature I will be using. Other than that the features are pretty close and with the Tekeon coming out alittle ahead with last 15 number recall versa the last 10 of the Jabra.
The Jabra (with it's out dated looks) has become my choice for 2 reasons, sound quality (as mentioned above) and upgradability. The Jabra can be firmware upgraded by the user as Jabra releases new code so it may be possible to have new features in the future.
Just my humble opinion
Batman - agree about the scrolling problem with the Tekkeon but its battery life, for me at least, has been much better than wih the BT800. The funny thing is that my 3 year old SE HBH-200 can do basically what the BT800 is designed to do (i.e. caller ID and making calls from the headset).
WOULDNT BUY IT AT ALL.
I have installed latest ROM, and use BT800. No caller ID. But this could be sortly solved with latest firmware.
Dont like sound quality. To be more precise, almost nobody understands me while using it. If I am in the street, forget about having a conversation. Metallical sound, etc.
Despite some things I have read before, not that good battery life I'd say.
In the end, I dont like it, but check out more opinions. Mine is a little bit "oriented" as I am so with it.
@jmcl, as I said before the digital signal processing technology of the BT800 is now 2 years old. The latest SE phones are better for noise reduction or you can use the HBH-300 with a very good boom mic.
@jah
what nextgen headsets from SE are you talking about? I dont find any headsets from SE with a display on it (except for one, which is totally lame )
is there something i'm missing?
thanks for all your views guys,
San
how do i get this to work on WInMO. I got voice dialin, volume, skip track.. All of those functions. The one function that is important is caller ID. I would like to have a way to see who, by name, or by number on the lcd when an inomcing call is comming in?? how do i do this?
is there no windows mobile people that have gotten this to work?
I get number ( NOT name) on incomming phone call.
My headset also freezes on Sony/Ericsson logo if I turn it off
before I turn off BT on the Titan
Only remedy is to plug in charger to reset it.
i get the same freeze thing, but how did you get the numbers to show???? That is all i need... just normal pairing or wht?
For me, eten x500 number shows out of the box.
Did you buy yours from ebay?
If it freezes when you try to turn it off, most likely it's a fake... sorry to say...
Real SE does not do that...
Don't know, it just works

Try JetWare
It worked for me, incoming caller name and phone (2sec Phone number 2sec Name)
You will be able to run your last call from your headset, but the contact won't work and the title with WMP or audio manager won't work also.
No problem, no more hissing.
Schap's 4.30/FR running on Hermes with DS980 (almost same than yours)
