Battery life - is it real? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I have noticed that often when I charge the device for over a night -which should fully charge the battery- I still get the amber light!!
I tried to disconnect and reconnect for like 2 or 3 times, off and on the device while charging and surprise :!: only then this got fixed and got the green led :!:
Right b4 this practice the battery indicator showed 94% and stuck on that, after the above applied, then it jumps to 100% :!:
Could this be a bug? I remember right after when this iMate was released the ClubImate released what they claimed battery LONGEVITY patch which apparently it is just a .dll file :!:
Now, the Q's, is the battery meter of whatever kind, indicates a real battery life? I mean most of us complained of several battery drainage problems, but apparently it is not WYSIWYG!!
Not to mention that SPB Plus has got it's own battery life parameters!!

I have had this on xda since new, it shows the amber light even if charging overnight, unplug the charger then reinsert and I get a green light immediately.

Only 0% or 100% batt but nothiung in beetwin

Everything was just fine until yesterday when i realized the batterty's built-in monitor wasn't reading a real batt stat. I was sure I was running out of charge and the divice was still saying there was 50% left. I did a soft reset and my atom didn't boot. I took the battery off and waited more than 3 hours, put it back and couldn't boot. I haven't ever done anything to my mobile. No register tweacks, fisical hits or rom upgrades. I searched the web and found a procedure to get it back. Reset+camera choose 1 option and there you go with your device booting at last. I did so but when it ended whith the system loading proces it sent a notification saying that the battery was exhausted and it went off. Again it couldn't boot in a normal way even with the ac adaptor plugged in. I made sure the battery was fully charged. I did a bootloader again (reseat+camera) with the usb connected and i could get it back again but showing 0% battery indicator and would turn off as soon as i unpluged it. I tested the battery with a multimeter and even when it was fully charged i tried to recharge it until green light then i turned it on and the batt monitor was 100%. I could unpluged the usb and everything was fine. It didn't turn off but the indicator got stock in 100%. After an hour or so of normal use i was sure the battery was 90% or less while it was still indicating 100% of charge. I did a soft reset and couldn't boot again. I think the device knows when the battery is 100% charged but when it is less tha 100% and i do a soft or cold reseat the mobile thinks the battery is 0% and won't boot.
Yes, I have ugraded to ROM Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822 to see if this fixes it but now i have a rom-upgraded aton exec with the same fatal error.
I am at work rigth now and hopping my atom doesn't need a soft reset because if so i need to plug it in in order to be able to do a reseat+camera and wait some minutes until green ligth shows up. My atom knows 0% or 100% of battery charge but no numbers in beetwin.
Any ideas?
did you charge the battery for 8 hours on first use, continuing to discharge battery completely first three charges?
This is crucial for battery performance I now get at least three days of moderate usage and at least 7 days in standby, my advice is go buy a new battery follow the instruction manual completely, failing any changes (be sure to buy battery from somewhere you can get refunded) return the battery. Try also reflashing using bootloader mode, not using the SD card!
The last time i used bootloader was after hard reset a no card inside then i performed the last ROM upgrede available from O2. It seems to be a hardware problem more than a software problem as i thought at the begining.
I hope you are rigth, i guess the device gets charge information from the battery and the battery is telling it when it is 100% and 0% when it is under 100% and after a soft or cold reset. I am going to drain the battery all the way down and recharge it up to green light to see what happens. By the way i did not charge the battery 8 hrs when new.
Where do you think my atom is geting the batt charge information? From one of its inside sensors or from batt circuits?
Thaks for your advice.
I mean reflash using bootloader mode, ie. enter bootloader then plug in USB and run DSUU installer from your PC. Its hard to say where the fault lies, some Atom's had power management issues and O2 are fully aware of it, if yours is still under warranty I suggest sending it to a service center but be prepared to be without it for at least a month! (should change their name to SLOW2) and also be prepared to have it returned to you only to find they havent done a damn thing!
Its a bad battery, same thing happened to me. Just return it for a new one, the material is moulded with the smart chip inside there is no way to fix it.
Now my battery is beetwin 100% and 85%. I have searched other forums and i found out it is definitly a battery issue. It has been more than 6 months since i bougth my Atom so i have no more battery garanty. I thing i am going to wait before i buy a new one in orther to get the most of it since it still last more than 2 days.
Thanks for the information.
when a battery xp-02 (for atom family) is sometime stop at certain percentage, says 72% for long time, i do a soft reset and it drops to says 40%, is it a symptom of bad battery? or it is a ROM problem?

Issue: Battery not charging

Hi all ... I got a new battery for my Universal and it worked fine for few weeks. Then I got a new device (Kaiser) and I no long use my old one for about 3 months. When I tried to use the Universal again I discovered that the charging led is always off and when I remove the battery it turns on in red ... I 'm sure it's a battery issue coz when I put the old battery back the charging led goes on.
so, the question is: could be the battery dead bcoz I didn't use the device for few months ? ... and if so, how can I fix it ?
TIA
This is a somehow "tough" question, answer is not easy without inspecting the battery electrically, but, with a multimeter you could check the battery's voltage, check it, it should not be too low (above 2.5V), if it's lower, try to fully recharge it (leave it on charge inside the phone at least one night).
Universal does three things when the battery is discharged:
If it has been fully discharged, it might show the red led for a couple of minutes (while the battery acumulates enough energy to begin the boot), or stays red when the battery is missing.
Orange led (in charge) or nothing for a couple of minutes, then orange (this might be your case), it means that the battery is not dead but the device is booting and while the system returns to "idle" it cannot give you any indication of charge (because you need a "idle" state to have such message).
After so much words, it might be more convenient just to buy another battery, with today's prices...
thx so much for all this info .. actually in my case the led is always off when the new battery is inserted .. it goes in orange with the old battery ... so, im sure the charging circuit is ok ... I just wonder what happened to this new battery which have not been used except for few weeks
it might just be dead, poor quality batteries are the most commond these days, even more if you bought it thorugh Ebay.

Charge Error

my phropet (818 pro, G3) have this problem. Whenever I charge the device, the LED indicator show amber light and the battery indicator on power setting says "charging" with charging animation run normally. But the percentage decreased and eventually my device powered off automatically because out of power.
Any idea what's going on with my device?
I was just about to create a new post about this...
My Prophet is about 2 years old, has been running Korand's ROM with WM6.1 without problems for about 1 year, stable (ie, no new applications installed recently) - and now it seems that it will only charge when the battery hits 0% - and stops when the battery hits 100% (or very close)
The charging light comes on, and with Battery Status it will show it gaining or losing charge, when the battery is in fact losing charge.
I actually bought a second battery, reflashed the ROM, so it's not battery (same behaviour with both batteries), nor a ROM malfunction (happened before and after reflash).
So, is it a hardware issue? Sometimes it seems to recharge from say 50%, but at present I'd say it seems to be unable to charge if it has been fully charged.
Any ideas??

Faulty Charging Circuit

Just over a week ago I found my battery life had become very short. A few 5 minute phone calls and it was dropping to 30%.
I charged the phone from the wall charger switched off to hopefully re-calibrate the battery.
It was then that I noticed a few hours later that the led was flashing orange and green.
Started the phone and the status was 100%. Life was still very poor so I thought as the battery was about 12 months old I may as well order a new HTC replacement.
The led would always stay on orange when charging the new battery even after an 8 hour wall charge and upon starting the phone it showed 99% charge.
A couple of days later it started behaving normally - going green and showing 100%
Last night however when putting it on charge ( 75% ) the led started flashing orange green again.
An hour later I was woken to the sound of the phone resetting itself then turning off because the battery was too low
Attempts to recharge resulted in the orange charging light coming on for about 10 seconds then turning off.
I found if I waited 20 minutes the orange light would stay solid indicating it was charging.
This morning when I turned it on the battery level was showing 100% so I hooked it up to the pc to do a backup. Backup completed then there was no orange light - battery was showing nearly empty - and in the status tab instead of Li-ion it said unknown !
Phoned Orange care and they said I had a faulty power circuit and are sending out a replacement.
I have noticed a large increase in posts recently regarding battery charging problems and phones resetting etc. and hope this helps others.

Update
My replacement phone is working well and there was nothing wrong with the "old" battery.
So if your battery life suddenly drops and you haven't changed anything on your phone investigate the charging circuit.

[Q] Weird Battery Issue

I have drained, reset, charged, drained, calibrated, reset to original rom, etc etc etc... No matter which ROM i use (currently on Trips MIUI103) my x10 will not go higher than 90%, then, even though it remains plugged in (and shows charging in Juiceplotter) it slowly drains until empty. Makes it difficult to plug in at night before I go to sleep, and to wake up to find it empty.
(At night I turn off Cell radio, 3g, wifi, bt, gps, etc etc etc) Does the same if the phone is off completely.
Any one have any ideas - it is not the battery, as i use my wifes battery and the same thing happens in my phone, but not in hers.
Well you may have a defective chipset or battery pack.
I suggest return it to SE.
Are you 100% that your apps or firmware isn't causing it?
Sounds like your phone is getting a run off current..
Does the Green "fully charged" LED ever show up.
Yup. Green LED is on at 91% right now (the highest I have ever seen it). and if I wait, it will be green at 90%, 89% etc
Use the phone for one week without reseting or wiping the battery cache..
run it down all the way even when it reaches 1% leave it..
the moment it shuts down.
begin recharging..
"don't use the phone"
till the green led comes on.. leave it a extra 30 mins.
repeat this twice!
then use it normally for the rest of the week..
this time charging at 15% when the phone notifies you and leaving it at least 30 mins after the the green led comes on...
if this does not work... ship back to SE.
Now battery doesn't charge at all (either the regular BST41 or the CSino 2600mah)
Luckily, under warranty, Rogers is sending one to replace. should be here today..
try removing the battery, then plugging it in (without the battery) for about 10-15 minutes.
unplug, put the battery in, plug it back in to charge.
As far as I know, when you calibrate the battery (charge full, the wipe stats, back to 88% then recharge, 2-3 times), I never got 100% after it (always back to 88%, so I have to charge it up to 100%).
Try to wipe again battery stats from xrecovery
Check also the Wolfbreak's CM v054 (dev section), on the first post there's a trick for battery troubles, you might try it
Edit : check also your charging supply and use as possible the stock SE charger. Why ? Because x10 often charges bad/not/slowly with other charger, most of them use a lower mAh charging and the x10 loves high mAh
