Hi all,
Now that we have all got our XDA's does any one know if it would be possible to change the Screen in the XDA to a 640x480 screen so that we can use the High resolutions in the new version of Windows Mobile edition?
I have seen some screen shots of the diference and its a HUGE difference... I would love to have a 640x480 screen now after seeing what the device could look like.
I suppose that the device can pump out 800x600 for Output but am not sure if it can pump 640x480 directly to the screen? do you think they will be an upgrade option if people would like to have there screen's updated on there XDA2's?
well of cause you would have to replace the whole screen
not sure if the the xda2 is popular enough for them to consider ofering something like that
I think they will, but it'll be called XDA III
Would it not be as easy as getting a new 640x480 screen and connecting it up? Provided we can find the right size and with the correct connector of course? Is there any reasion that our XDA II will not beable to push out 640x480 reso direct to the screen?
I'm not very technical when it comes to the workings of the XDA as I do not know the hardware it has inside, and am not game enough to start poking around in it just yet...
Well I do hope for all of ours sake that we will have an option or a parth later on for the new reso it does look sooooooo much better and is super CRISP...
No, it would be possible (Se NYDITOT Virtual Display) but you can´t see ****, because the screen only has 320x240 pixels.
maybe the cable to the screen would have a different wireing
and maybe the lcd control chip on the "motherboard" would also
have to be changed
different res's on intergrated devices are never as std. as external monitors on pc's
But you can change the resolution, the problem is neither the chip but the screen. It can only display 320x240 pixels, because is has no more!
skenliv yes but he's asking if they would make an upgrade where he gets a whole new screen for his device which does support 640_480
of cause that still leave the issue with the posible connection difference
and the chip may not be able to control a bigger res and maybe one would even have to change the touchscreen along with the lcd if it's limited to a lower res aswell
anyway i'm pretty sure it would be a very expensive upgrade
and it would prob be cheaper to just buy a xda3
But it is able to handle a higher resolution, that´s what im trying to say
Although the display can show 640, but you can´t see anything because it´s so damn small on a 320x240 pixel screen.
And yes, it would probably be very very expensive to change the whole screen.
how much bigger is the e80X 's screen then xda2's ?
The E800 is 4 Inch. The XDA II is 3 Inch. So it´s quite big.
I think the amount of video ram is also a factor in the available resolution, so even if you could get 800x600 it would probably only be in 256 or 16 colours.
Maybe I wil be too sad but,the Himalaya has internal GPU that is confirmed for ATI Imageon 3200 series.
Following there are the spec:
Display Support
4/8 bit monochrome
12/15/16/18 bit color STN
12/15/16/18 bit TFT
Maximum resolution 320x480 at a color depth of 16-bpp
Partial display refresh
2 HW cursors, 1 HW icon/overlay
Frame modulation
Panel rotation (90°, 180°, 270°)
Please note the maximum resolution supported!
It NEVER support more than 320x480..so never 640x480!
You must change all the matherboard of your ppc for that and also the screen,it isn't factible.
Regards,Ser
Thanks for the replys guys although I am even more confused now, if the ATI Imageon 3200 series does not put our more then 320x480, how does the XDAII output 640x480 and 800x600 output? is this a totaly diferent card/chipset that does this work? If so things might be starting to make a little sence although I don't see why they would not use 1 chipset that could do both... so still a little confusing on the logic side of things...
Cheers...
yes,I see your confusion!
XDA2 can't output 640x480 and can't 800x600.
You probably refer to Nyditot Virtual Display,a program that force "via software" to use virtual resolutions like 640x480-800x600 and up..but more things are unreadable!
or could he be talking about displaying on an external monitor using the backpack?
No.. I think he's talking about the external output on the backpack...

Hi fudgebottom
as your friends said, the display of your pocket pc is designed for 320x240. but i found a software called Virtual Display, you can resize your screen for 640x480 and 800x600 and you can rotate the screen, ...
the site is: http://www.nyditot.com/NVDPage.asp
hope it can help
i wouldnt use that s/w on ur xda2 as it means a hard reset lol been there and done that :|
works fine on xda1 using ppc2003

What's the purpose of the demo if we can't save the video?
think its a fake, just someone who's using the standard API's in a nice way
Don't think there is a standard API for WM2003.
V
I thought I saw some line in the exe that stated that: GXBeginDraw, GXEndDraw etc.
Doesn't he just makes a connection from the camera to the display and uses hardware function to set the image to a resolution or effect and teases us with 640*480 video?
Could be, I haven't looked into this app yet, no time, but AFAIK there was no HTC published API for the camera. That doesn't mean it can't be used by 3rd parties of course. And on WM5 it's built into the OS as well.
V
something like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=55956
I've seen the CowBurn code before, but it's not an HTC or Microsoft API, so it's not really an "official" API. Good stuff though, and very useful.
V
hmmm, is it? I was always to lazy to install the VS package for it, maybe I should give it a try...
But, what do you think, is the S100 capable of doing 640*480 video? I thought it was hardware restricted? :?:
Just had a proper look through the CowBurn code. As far as I can see, this isn't an interface to the camera, but merely a wrapper around the built in camera.exe right?
That's not as crufty as hacking into the HTC dlls/drivers themselves...
V
Seems to be very nice, indeed. Any plans on releasing a working version?
see www.ateksoft.com
OK ZUP!
Thanks! seems to be a serious effort!
Hope they can get a better result out of the cam than HTC did
It's already march! Just release it []
NEW VERSION
There is a new version, check the site noted bij suip2006!
It seems that this version is able to capture and save data, but it doesnt work for me
sorry, that seems to be limited to the shareware version, but where is it? :?

I guess they will release it when they are happy with it. I would wait an extra couple of weeks for s/w that works rather than getting something early that's buggy.

But isn't it something like Windows Mobile 5.0 for Magician?
If you hear that its out...willn't you be the first one to try it for real? even a beta buggy one?
This comcoder software is not that important...but its next to win 5.0 and Bluetooth...so its normal we the people who use magician's camera a bit more then general user will be interested to use this....even a buggy one...

hi,
is there a way to improve the quality of video recordings (vga) of my x1? Ive got also an nokia 5800 and the recordings of these phone are much better (they have less fragments and barley no buckings)...
The nokia has just 369MHz and 128 Ram, the X1 528 and 256 Ram there must be a way to get better video recording on the x1!!!
im with you!
If only we can up the bit rate a bit (It's not mpeg 4 so you need higher bitrate for that resolution video.....)
+1
but then do You believe that xperia is powerful enough for higher bitrates?
Maybe old Ateksoft CoolCamera works on Xperia? It records with MJPEG (Less CPU power needed).

I'm sure it can! If all other phones with slower procesors can do it, why not xperia?

Perhaps SE has improved the camera hardware...? I have a X1i 08W51 and 09W03 and the difference in picture and video rec. is immediately clear! Both have now the R3AA and the new(!) R3AA camera w/autoflash and GPS!
How do I check when my X1 was made?
Yesterday night I tried to recorde with the flash light, Im so disappointed about that Sony calls this a flash, you cant take a picture with this thing at night, its nothing really nothing. I compered it with my nokia 5800, tha flash light of it is 3-4 brighter...

What's the best android head unit available for <1000$ for VW/Skoda?
Is Quad Core and 2 Gb RAM state of the art?
What if it comes to EQ Settings, MCU sound processor and amplifier chip? I want a good sound and to be able to adjust the sound to the car.

not a fan of "who's the best" but I think this is the most supported android HU
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...4-4-2-kitkat-head-unit-newsmy-carpad-t2865525
see in the wiki for vw variant, 2bg ram and 4 core. My unit works great, I installed one in golf6 for a friend and mine is going to be installed on my scirocco in a couple of days Have a nice reading
I was curious about what the best was too, but then realized in this scene with these manufacturers the best is essentially the most actively supported. The newsmy carpad nu3001 seems to be the most supported singular model at the moment and the RK3188 variant head unit may be the best spec'd because of the quad core and it appears to be the latest chipset
I would say just look for specs. An RK3188 is the standard right now for what I've seen (don't think there's anything more powerful) and 2GB RAM is more than adequate. Look for other things that you might need/like (screen size and resolution, Android version, etc). In the end, it doesn't matter much which specific headunit you have as long as the chipset is supported so going with a RK3188 means there'll be plenty of options.

Sorry I am not allowed to post links yet. Just google something like "2gb android quad core car" or search for the same in aliexpress.
You'll find 2GB from a few sellers now. Sometimes it's optional.
Which android unit has the best hardware when it comes to sound quality?
THD, Noise etc.
Yup, sound quality and overall quality of the unit matters most to me. I don't need all of the fancy features, but the unit needs to be reliable, well made and playing music in a good quality. I haven't seen that being a priority for majority of the chinese units described here
Have you seen good sound quality in any android unit yet?
Or which don't have good clear sound?

I have a Navall 3 that has a quad core RK3188/2gb mem/16 storage/DAB+FM radio.
And, how is it in general?
How is sound quality?
+1 here for SQ head unit
I'm desperately reading the forum here, and am really keen on ordering the newsmy VW flavor.
I don't mind the software annoyances, can live with them or try to fix.
For me, there are two major hardware concerns:
1. I absolutely cannot give up a superb RCA OUT quality.
Got a Pioneer head-unit now and the sound quality is great!
It is connected to a high-quality amp, a component set and a subwoofer.
If I install the android unit and discover SQ is not as good as my current setup, I will have to ditch it
2. I need the ability to separately control the speakers and the subwoofer.
This should include high-pass/low-pass filters, just like I have with my Pioneer.
I was thinking about using an external USB DAC. Have verified that this is indeed supported with the newsmy units.
But this will only leave me with a stereo out, without the ability to control the subwoofer.
The Ownice units do have 5.1 RCA output, but it looks like they are not well maintained and there are severe bugs plaguing all around their software.
Plus, I love the way newsmy separates the screen from the brains. It would be so much easier to configure and upgrade in the future.
OP - I think we share the same concerns, right?
Now what do we do?

They use quite good parts in that device, the radio is from NPX 6624(Philips), Bluetooth v3.0, U-BLOX GPS/GLONASS receiver, and it has a STMicroelectronics mosfet amplifier (4x 45 watt), but i have a Audison 5.1k system in the car and it sounds fantastic.
You can find all the parts on Google

Internal, external? Can you send a link?

How often do you use the DVD player? Do you just stream movies directly on the HU itself via hotspotting? I appreciate this thread as I am in the market of getting a new HU. I was looking at a Pioneer but having a OnePlus One that option is out since we do not have a HDMI/MHL output. I know it's a crap shoot with these Chinese radios and do not want to throw money away being a teacher ha

Sound quality is pretty good on these units but they do have limitations regarding the controls for the subwoofer and the HP, LP settings. I also had a Pioneer HU before and this one sounds just as good to me using the same setup (Pioneer components on all 4 doors, 2 Pioneer shallow mount subs and a 1200 watts Rockford amp). What I did was settle for setting LP and HP on the amp and it's been just fine for me. A handy trick I used was that I hooked up the subs to the rear out on the stereo and then I shift the front and rear balance on the HU in order to alter the mix between the subs and the speakers. It's not quite the same as having LP and HP on the unit but it does the trick.

I've only used the DVD player a handful of times (just for testing it and making sure it works actually). I usually play videos from a USB drive or stream them from YouTube, but the DVD player works just fine. It takes a few seconds to start (I find it to be a little longer than it should) but nothing that would be a real issue in my opinion.

Thanks for the great info!
I'm also with a rockford amp (plus a Hertz component, which I'm not sure if sold in the US).
The HU I'm looking at (the newsmy 3001) doesn't even have a way to change balance - just a single pair of RCA outs. I think as a first step I'll try to disconnect the dedicated sub out from my Pioneer HU and use the onboard amp crossovers to HP/LP the components and the sub. Hopefully that will provide a decent configuration. If that works, I will go ahead and get the android unit.
The most critical factor for me was the RCA SQ and your inputs are tremendous here.
Thanks!
War Rasta,

I have a Pumpkin KD-C0234 that I bought off of Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Pumpkin-Recei...d=1436365438&sr=1-1&keywords=pumpkin+kd-c0234
So i was browsing through joyings new intel head units on their site with DSP. I found that all intel based joying headunits with their DSP now have a SPDIF coaxial output. This is a huge step for them since many of us been trying to use a USB DAC for toslink or SPDIF output.
A regular name brand HIGh res deck with SPDIF output runs over 1200$ . And their not even touch screen.
Joying finally woke up and did it, now us guys with fancy name brand DSP’s can finally send true digital coax output to them. I will be ordering one of theses units and not utilizing the dsp that is built in. Simply because i find that they are not there yet with their built in dsp’s for individual speaker functions. I have a nice audio control dsp that has a coax input.
Enjoy!
if u order it pls make some pics of android board and som
Subscribed... I'm thinking buying one. I found two version. 2/16 and 4/32 GB. What do you suggest? Enough the 2/16, or better the 4/32 version?
Depending on what your looking at doing with the unit. Im going all out with the 4gb of ram. I caught myself multitasking on the 2gb ram units (not joying) and the audio would studder sometimes.
Theses new joyings will change the revolution of car audio with this coaxial output!
Ill be able to listen to “tidal” app do get high lossless sound tracks right to my Audiocontrol 608 DSP via coaxial.
The only other way to do digital sound is an ipad or the highly priced sony unit at 1500$ for a single dine with no display?.

I will try and do so
Just ordered mine, but with 2.5inch curved IPS display. I will try to make a frame to fit my car.
I won't be using the digital out for now, I will try the RCA out first and see. I like the build in eq.
My last joying unit had hissing noise when not playing music, hope this one will be quieter.
Yeah. For the average user, their dsp seems to have eq front and rear independently. Which is nice.
You can also order a longer ribbon for their screens to locate the unit in a different area from their screens. This would probably help with the mold you want to make for your display.
If you have a high fidelity sound stage like me. : tweeter on an amp, mid ranges on a separate amp, woofers on another amp . Then rear stage on another amp, then all amps hooked up to a 10 ch output dsp to control each speaker independently.
The built in dsp is no good for me. But the digital output will be king to supply my external dsp with digital audio??

I did research some DSP (Thanks for the tip on youtube). I came up with the Rockford Fosgate DSR1 for $283, which was the cheapest of them all. I will wait and try out the build in DSP first before jumping onto this one.
I currently have an 5 channel infinity amp coupled with a pioneer monoamp for the sub.
I am also using component in front and coaxial in rear. I am using the crossover that came with infinity speakers for the front.
Not sure if I should connect the sub directly to the unit or leave it connected to the infinity amp. I will have to play around and see which gives better sound.
The rockford is a nice unit, i tried it out myself. I am not sure if it has a coaxial digital input. I forget.
Another thing i did not like was it does not have presets and their app is not too android friendly...(to be run on a head unit apk)
And i also forget if it has volume control knob...
This is why i went with audio control.
My head unit should be arriving by next weekend i hope . Then ill be gearing up to make a huge review video , based on audio quality and features and obviously the new spdif digital output!
Can you test the rcas as well and not just spdif? I'm planning on getting one myself but I will only go digital if the normal rca output is bad. Also can you test spdif to see if you can control the volume through headunit or steering wheel controls instead of using dsp volume knob? I guess if you could be as thorough with some of thr main feature(wifi, Bluetooth, 4g, sound quality from both outputs, camera input etc) that would be very helpful. I've never pulled the trigger on an android headunit because the lack of some features and poor sound quality but I'm almost ready to get this one. Which size did you buy?
I will for sure be doing exactly as you mentionnned above. I will also be using my oscilloscope to measure distortion in the rca’s. I had a eonon headunit and there was terrible noise in the rca’s and even more noise when a Hard drive was plugged into the usb ports. And more noise with my 360view camera hooked up.
I will be doing bench testing first then i will be moving to vehicle testing.
I bought the double din 10.1” headunit intel with 4gb ram and 32gb ssd.
Its going in my 1997 chev c/k1500 pick up. I have hifi audio in there . Ill be doing more upgrades down the road as well.
Sweet. I'm excited to see the results. I just hope it isn't a let down. I really want to go ahead and order one but if you're doing a review I'd rather wait. I've wanted an android head unit since they came out. I've even looked at building a raspberry pi or like rock pi and adding a screen but I just don't think I'd be happy with the results. These Android head units really have a lot of features but the sound quality has been the deal breaker for me. I asked JOYING what their rca voltage is and they always tell me they don't have voltage... Not sure what they mean but whatever. For all of our sakes I hope this one gets the job done.
Mine will be delivered tomorrow, but I wont be to test it out until next weekend since i will be out of town.
For sound, i will be using the rca going to my amp, not planning g on using a DAC right now.
Just make sure you tell us about it as soon as possible lol.
Just got mine yesterday, but what a disappointment, no digital audio out. Although I did order the one with the digital audio out.
I emailed them back, but they told me they are on vacation and will not return until Feb14 or something, but the lady said she will replaced it for me.
I just powered it on on my bench, so I have not been able to play with the audio in the car or the equalizer, will do so this weekend.
The 10.1 2.5D curved screen is nice though

Dang that sucks. It looks like it has the 4g dongle built in. Are you able to test that out?
Usually its under the yellow cap... instead of the yellow video 2 out, it will be a green rca. Take off your yellow caps.
My video should be on YouTube by tomorrow.
Everything you can ever possibly want in an android headunit is finally here. Crisp sound through the digital source and no noise or hiss on the rca’s .
Be patient i will post a youtube link shortly. Better grab popcorn, my vid is 1.5 hour long lol

That's great news. Can't wait to see the review. Did you order model(JY-UO134N4G)? I want to make sure I get the right one when I go to order.
