I don't know much about PDA's, can someone explain the difference? Is it worth buying XDA IIi over XDA II
Well you would think it was an obvious answer, as the XDAIIi is the updated version then that would be better although I'm not so sure.
I have both the XDAII and the XDAIIi and there are some improvements, integrated WiFi and WM2003 SE being the most apparent.
However the New 1.3mp camera is ****e, worse than the original cam in the XDAII. The screen is badly lit aswell, I'm considering cancellin my connection on it.
i even had it swapped out once as was sure the poor screen was a defect, alas not.

I had a XDA2s and that was crap, the screen was yellow, so maye i am a bit biast but i think the XDA2i is very good, OK the camera is crap but then everyone have a proper digital camera, But the screen on my XDA2i is verry good, i like it compared to the old XDA2 as the WiFi is in it, as to the speed not sure if i notice any differance, and as to the more memory, well SD cards are cheap now so that makes no real differance

Looks gorgeous. They're *meant* to be launched on the 3rd October, rolled back from the 5th September, to be honest; they're not showing on our tills yet, so it doesn't look like any time soon.
Boy, how I can't wait.

is that resolution correct??? i can only get 640x480 on mine
I have (on MDA Pro):
Small (160X120)
Medium (320x240)
Large (640x480)
1M (1280x1024)
2M (1600x1280)
But it should be noted that 2M is interpolated by software. The camera hardware is only 1.3 Megapixels.
What's the flash on it like?
I found the options now, hehe nice will play with them later,
the flash is ok, more of a bright white led, but ive read there will be a patch at some point to make it more intense on the imate site
Does the Exec come with Blackberry Connect?
No, it does not I'm affraid.
Then there's no need to upgrade from my trusty IIi then unless anyone can talk me round?
Hi all,
XDA Atom official specs here.
PRO:
- 416MHz Intel Bulverde CPU
- 128 MB storage, 64 RAM
- WM 5.0
- 262K colors
- WiFi 802.11b
- EDGE
- Radio FM
- Bluetooth 1.2 with: headset, hands-free, object push, serial port, dial-up network, advanced audio distribution (A2DP), Audio/Video Remote Control (AVRCP)
- 2.0 MPixel Camera with led flash
- stereo speaker
CONS:
- 2.7 inches screen (magician is 2.8 )
- miniSD slot !!!
It seems a good successor for our magician, ways better than MDA Compact II; miniSD slot however it's a great disadvantage!
Bye
What is the biggest size of mini-SD ? 512 MB ? 1024 MB ?
Which one will you buy ? ATOM or WIZARD ? and WHY ?

I won't buy a Wizard, too fat, too slow, and I don't need a wobbly keyboard.
I may buy the Atom because small size is 75% of what I'm looking for in a PPC phone. The Atom appears to be the smallest device with the most screen real estate possible. Eventually future models will get even thinner. I'll wait for a few reviews before taking the plunge. Meanwhile my Jam works just fine.
416MHz? The same as the Magician? Does this mean ROM compatibility?

My old Pentium II at school had a 400MHz CPU too but i don't think it was ROM-compatible with our magician!!!
But we can cross our fingers...
Bye bye,
Isidoro
CPU is the same (Intel PXA272 416MHz) but since the manufacturing company is different (Quanta instead of HTC), I doubt that the rest of the hardware is the same. Different hardware => different drivers => different ROMs :'(

According to mobile-review.com, the camera is not 2.0 Megapixel at all. It is the exact same old crapola camera with "software enhancement"/interpolation/whatever.
Other than that, the specs look good. Hopefully its a decent one.

The specifications say that it is a 2 MP CMOS Camera. The CMOS implies that it is not software interpolation. However, as has been said may times, 2MP guarantees size but not quality!
CMOS refers to a type of sensor - its nothing to do with the size of it (megapixels). The digital camera world is notorious for including these misleading "interpolation" specs as the specs of the lens, then explaining it in fine print elsewhere.
If this model features the same camera/lens as is found in the Wizard, then its a 1.3MP camera. Read here:
From: http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/review/htc-wizard-en.shtml
The camera has the maximum physical resolution of 1.3 megapixel (1280x1024). At the same time "software" resolution is 2 megapixel by interpolating the initial image. There is no sense in such resolution (by this means the camera doesn't become a 2-megapixel one, the image quality isn't better), it's just a psychological thing

If its clearly known that this in the Atom is an entire different lens fromw hat is found in the sister models, that's one thing - okay. But given that these are all essentially mix-and-match models, built on the same generation, of the same platform, honestly I wouldn't hold your breath on that.
cmos is the camera ppc and nokia etc phones use (cause it uses less power) teh digital cameras have ccd (or something like this )lenses
the ccd camera of 1.3 megs resolution is better than cmos 1.3 camera
so dont hold your breath for the cmos 1.3 camera on the ATOM

I'm with you completely on this. What I meant is that usually when they say "2MP CMOS" they mean that the CMOS sensor is capable of reading 2MP.
When the resolution is interpolated they would say something like 2MP (1.3MP CMOS).
But this depends on how honest the company wants to be. It can be very misleading!

It seems that O2 has prepared two new mobile phones for December and hopefully they will become available just in time for Christmas. Unfortunately, those handsets are not listed in the global O2 portfolio yet. The O2 XDA Stellar and O2 XDA Orbit II will be offered at a subsidized prize with a fixed-term contract.
The HSDPA-enabled tri-band O2 XDA Stellar is a twin of the HTC TyTN II, a phone we've reviewed recently. It's a feature loaded QWERTY keyboard PocketPC, which comes with a 2.8" 65K TFT touchscreen display with QVGA resolution, built-in GPS receiver, a 400 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth v2.0, and a 3 megapixel autofocus camera.
The HSDPA-enabled quad-band O2 XDA Orbit II is another twin of an already announced HTC handset - this time it's HTC Touch Cruise. However, the XDA Orbit II has undergone several cosmetic design changes to meet the O2 requirements. The PocketPC flaunts a 2.8" 65K TFT touchscreen with QVGA resolution, built-in GPS receiver, 400 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth v2.0, and a 3 megapixel autofocus camera. The full TouchFLO technology is also present here. The original HTC Touch Cruise is not available yet, however HTC representatives promised that it would hit the stores before Christmas.
O2 has some more smarties in store for the Christmas shoppers. The other ones however are already available. Those are O2 XDA Comet, O2 XDA Terra, O2 XDA Nova and O2 XDA Argon.
The HSDPA enabled quad-band O2 XDA Comet is the same device as the O2 XDA Atom Life, but it is intended for the German market, while the XDA Atom Life is for the Asian market but doesn't has a close HTC relative. O2 XDA Comet comes with the latest Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional OS. The Comet is eqiuped with heavy arsenal onboard. It has a 2.7" 65K TFT touchscreen with QVGA resolution, 620 MHz processor, 64 MB RAM and a breath-taking 1GB ROM, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth v1.2, and a 2 megapixel camera.
The quad-band O2 XDA Terra, a remake of the HTC P4350, sports a 2.7" 65K TFT touchscreen display with QVGA resolution, full QWERTY hardware sliding keyboard, 200 MHz processor, 64 MB RAM and 128 MB ROM, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth v2.0, as well as a 2 megapixel camera.
The tri-band O2 XDA Nova, known elsewhere as HTC Touch, has too undergone several cosmetic design changes with the navigation panel to do with the one of Qtek S100. O2 XDA Nova is the first phone to include full TouchFLO technology, a 2.8" 65K TFT touchscreen with QVGA resolution, 201 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth v2.0, and a 2 megapixel camera.
The tri-band O2 XDA Argon, otherwise known as HTC P6300, houses a 3.5" 65K TFT touchscreen display with QVGA resolution, 400 MHz processor, 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth v2.0, and a 2 megapixel camera.
Check out the up-coming O2 Zinc II and Atom V. According to Expansys-HK=obviously dropped the XDA logo, only prob. is they both still have a (sometimes crippling) 64MB RAM. -kinda nice looking though

14.4Mbps theoretical. In the real world you could expect 6Mb-8Mb speeds as long as you are in an area where the cell towers are HSPA+. According to AT&T the entire existing 3G footprint will be upgraded by summer 2011.

SAMOLED is a great technology but there are some things that bugged me about it.
-The image retention being the scariest, I don't want things burnt into my screen...
-I could see the sub pixels or the pentile matrix, and it bugged me a lot.
-SAMOLED are more efficient depending what you have on the screen...
If you have a lot of white one the screen they use MORE power than lcd or slcds.

It's just a question of how much AT&T is going to charge for the privilege of using the "official" hotspot feature. If it's an extra $20 to access the same 2 GB data bucket, then no thank you. I'll stick with PDAnet or Easytether, or root it and enable wi-fi tether on my own.
At least with Verizon's new hotspot plan, you get an EXTRA 2 GB to access through the hotspot for your $20.
