Is it possibile installing a different O.S. on a SD?
Is it possibile booting from an O.S. installed on a SD card?Just like a powerful PC can we create a dual boot loader?
It would be wonderful making a choice to start from resident O.S. or from an installed O.S. in the SD.
Thanks in advance for your kind reply.
i doubt it
never heard about the bootloader being able to use the sdcard for anything but to take an image from and flash the rom with it
also sdcards are very very much slower then internal flash so it would mean a very very slow start if it was possible
well. actually i had such idea. the idea is to integrate sd drivers to xip, create imgfs and 2 fat partitions on sd and launch xip from xip. unfortunately, because of some strange bootloader behavior on my asus 525, i have not yet managed to start a xip from ram, it keeps falling to the one on DoC..))) but i think everything is possible. just you need to be very careful when migrating from flashdrv to sdmemory - it`s hard to set up the driver for os root correctly
Hey everyone, I am glad NAND is finally released (for those that have been waiting for it), but I'm wondering if theres anyone (yes I know the pros of having NAND Android) that prefers being able to dual boot? I'm starting to feel that work will halt on the SD/RAM builds. Any reassurance? Thanks guys.
I'd like to keep SD builds as well.

Naw I think a lot of us non-TMOUS HD2 owners will still use SD builds. Reason being, we just don't have a lot of storage space, which many of us need. Unless Devs perform the ext4 partition thingie onto or sd card, for us to expand storage, storage will still be small for non-TMOUS HD2 NAND users i guess.
Yes, RAM builds are the biggest source of competition for NAND - however, I haven't filled up my storage yet with my apps and still have about 90/100MB left of phone storage.
What about installing apps to SD card???
Signal strength is much better on NAND though for me.
Can you report how many %of the.time without signal with sd and %with nand? I believe you but I didnt test nand roughly because of the memory limitation. But I guess thats gone now
I hope the response will be "No". I use the PSX Emulator (FPSece) on WinMo so I prefer switch on Andoid or on WinMo.
Nand is obviously the next stage of evolution in rom development towards running Android natively on our hd2's.
sd card builds have the great advantage of being swapped easily, especially with multiple sd cards (I have two, one stable daily use which is fully configured and one experimental)
Moreover the risk of bricking your previous device is rather low from sd..
I am not very clear about the difficulty of transferring a build from an sd build to nand and vice versa, but if there could be a migration tutorial, as a sticky we could have both, latest builds in nand and the choice of running them from sd..
Is this technically possible? Which factors could inhibit easy migration?

I thought originally MAGLDR was supposed to be able to multiboot Android and WinMo (probably a non-sense version of each due to space)?
I hope MADLR can do the following soon:
- Load SD\RAM\NAND Android from custom folders on the fly
- Allow backup\restore of the data store
- Load WMP 6.5 and maybe even 7
I think this will keep the flexibility of multiple build loads alive which will benefit the user and the devs. I know some of this should be coming but it would be nice to get all of our belated Christmas wishes.
not sure but,,
im not sure but the aMAGLDR menu does also have the option to boot from SD-card, i havent tried it yet though..
also one thing i still want is the ability to boot my ubuntu-sd-card build, now i cant use haret.exe im not sure how to go about the dual booting thing ??
much stuff to try out
***edit***
ok, just put the contents of an old sd card build directly onto the root of an sd card (ie, without the 'android' folder) booted phone holing power key until magldr menu shows, then select boot AD from SD and it boots just like the old sd card with haret method, -
so far i see it finds zimage and initrd.gz, then i get the boot screen, .... looks like dual booting is still an option even if it may need a bit of tweaking.. i guess its just the startup.txt that needs to be read for it to boot properly ,
*********
I think in the original NAND release thread, Cotulla explains that a SD build (haret.exe) and a NAND build are very different, to use the SD boot option in MAGLDR, you need to put the content of a NAND build on the SD card, somehow...

I would like it if they could implement a better DFT installer, which had options such as
• Install to NAND
• Install to SD
• Customise partitions
• Multiboot
Instead of just being able to install to NAND. This way, we can have a single installer / release for both methods (and this would make it easier for chefs )

I think it's impossible to say for how long - but on Darkstone 1.5 RAM, and MDJ's HD4.6 I would find the signal to have disappeared at least once a day up to three times - requiring a reboot of the phone - airplane mode did not seem to work.
After reboot signal would return to full strength in the same exact spot.
Problem is the signal would be lost in a pocket or on my desk and you simply would not notice it until you went to use the device - in fact the first time I realised it was happening was because I was getting far fewer emails/smses and calls and the phone was utterly quiet - very peculiar for the holiday season and party planning.
I haven't as yet downloaded a NAND build although i may well do that this evening, however having downloading many different builds for Android over the last few months i can safely say Dark Stone's SUPERAM blows everything out of the water in terms of speed it really is very fast which IMO is very important.
Has anyone been able to backup an activated WP7 Rom. Since the WP7 Rom password which is tied directly to the sd card used when the phone is initially turned on prevents easily swapping stuff around, I like to backup my existing WP7 Rom. Then I can flash a Nandroid Gingerbread Rom and then be able to return flash to my stored activate WP7 Rom/SD card whenever I'd like. Sounds good anyway.

You mean a program like Nandroid?
And no. That's not possible at the current moment.
That's too bad, what we need is a version of ClockworkMod that works with WP7.
This would be a great tool if someone brought it out.
Have my HD2 now running wp7,activated and not bad at all, loads of apps missing
that I would normally have in my android build.
Wanting to flash back to android but would also like to backup this activated wp7
and then can swap and change as new stuff comes out.
Any mods willing to take this on.
George
maybe by reg'?

I am positive there could be a way through Regedit.
I carry a 16gb sd and i noticed it showed a little reserved partition of around 20% in the zune software(which allows its tweaking). The tweak ability was gone after reinstalling windows and zune.. and that made me loss the partition and an extra unused 2gb.
Now the main thing is, i reg edited the phone for portable usb capabilities - viewing its content, moving, creating and pasting stuff around. To regain my full gb's, i wud 've copied all contents to pc and formatted it but then realized it contained all call history and EVERY settings made to the phone(on sd) which the reg editing i did didnt give full access to than only the media folders.
Unless ADVANCED reged' is made to make visible all primary phone settings(for easy pc backup) then . . . . . . . . . yeah....'no cant do'
But this is xda. and i hope someone could figure this out
Hi,
I have been on this forum for the past 2-3 days trying to get android on my gf's HD2 and it just wont have it.
I have tried MCCM's HD v4 Desire one
I have tried Froyo 1.5
I have tried DL Desire Series, both SD and MAGLAR.
The ones where you click CLRCAD.exe then haret.exe either say it doesent have certificates to run or parts are missing. Or it goes to a black scree and gets stuck on "Jumping To Kernel" and it stays like that for ages (tested for 1 hour, never budged)
The DL desire series via MAGLAR wont work either, I need HSPL (sp?) to install MAGLAR but HSPL keeps reporting back that the file Rapi.dll is missing.
My SPL version is 1.42**** so technically thats right ( from what I have read )
I have tried formatting the SD card via PC and device, also tried a factory reset and an additional 2 other SD cards. Still nada.
What else can it be? Someone mentioned the radio but there is so many questions being asked in a specific thread that mine gets lost and since this is more of a global issue I thought a thread of its own is deserved
I really want this and will go to any length to get it ( not keen on ROM flashing thought, would like to avoid turning the handset into a hammer rather than a phone)
Hope I havent busted any rules
Cheers,
Gib
You need radio 2.14 or more for Android.
aka, upgrade your ROM.
You are not alone
You are not alone here.
I have been having this problem too, I get stuck on the HTC white screen. though I haven't tried much ROM but I have tried formating and reflahing of my WM ROM.
I once did a stock ROM official update with: (RUU_Leo_S_HTC_NLD_3.14.404.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2 .15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship)
ever since I have not been able to find how to flash using SPL, I have been flashing using SSPL_RU and my radio is 2.15.50.14.
Could this reason be the problem.
I need help please I want to have a feel of droid.
Know the feeling
I have been trying all the different android magldr sd roms and everytime its the same story. First boot fine. Second boot and on it just hangs at the green htc logo. I have tried so many things i don't know what to do next.
Have you tried one of the Energy ROM's? I found on my unlocked HD2 that these were the only roms (going back a while now) that I could get Android running off an SD card. I've since heard that there is a basically blank rom for people who want to run nothing but android. It's a small rom, only about 30mb.
It's in a few places around the board. I can't remember what the name of that one is off the top of my head, but any of the Energy series, or the Miri ROM's apparently work too.
Good luck!

Ater trying some nand roms i came back to the orignal firmware( the same as you).
And i also have this problem , it just load into a picture with htc on it.
Have you tried using a different SD card? My Sandisk 8gb didn't accept anything. I had an old 512mb laying around that came with my E90, loaded SuperRAM on it (aprox 450mb including data.img) and it booted straight away.
2.15.50.* is the right radio for most SD builds, make sure you have enough free space on SD. most builds have at least 512mb if not 1gb data.img which gets created when first boot. If runs out of space it will get stuck on boot screen. No hspl required with 3.14 HTC winmo rom
I also try to get Android in my HD2 (energy ROM). I am somewhat puzzled however: I want to flick back and forth between WM and Android and many programs I have reside onto my SD card. I have read in an earlier post that before attempting Android I should format my card - does this mean that I cannot have WM data (programs etc) in the same SD card I run android? or that I can transfer them back AFTER I manage (if) to load Android?. Thank you
The SD card has to be formatted in FAT32. Just to make sure the card is clean I copy all my data to my pc, format the card and transfer it all back.

OK thank you - got it!
Unfortunately I cannot get passed the green HTC splash screen - my HD2 stays there for time no end and the only solution is to take battery out. Any suggestions?
Assuming you've got everything set up properly (right radio, hspl, ...) which you can find on the Android forum. I think you'll have to try using a different brand of sd card. Some cards simply don't play nice with Android.
Got uber annoyed with the SD method, just ended up doing a full scale flash to ROM. Was easier lol

I am using Energy ROM (Energy Serie: Energy.Leo.28244.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.Feb.12)
My phone just hangs on the white HTC screen when I try to boot into Android from the SD card. I flashed my ROM with SSPL_RU after an update with the Stock ROM (RUU_Leo_S_HTC_NLD_3.14.404.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship)
ehh

I would almost agree with that except, i have 2 exactly the same 16 gb cards, each with a 3 gb fat32 primary partition. 1 loads android but wont allow me to do things like take pictures[it says there isn't an sd card.] The second card just hangs at the green htc screen. Even if I copy the working partition to the other card, it still hangs.

Thanks for this Info. I didn't take into consideration that the file will be enlarged during booting. The copied Android folder was 508MB in size but this got enlarged to about 1.3GB during boot up. I thought if I just leave about 1.2GB in all the SD card I have been trying that it should be enough. But I was wrong.
Thanks a lot I have done multiple reboot without any problem.
I am enjoying my first Android feel.
Thanks once again.
Android on HD2 hates most SD Cards
From my own limited experience to also having read many posts I can say that most sd cards prevent Android from running properly on the hd2. Mine works fine with radio 2.14/2.15 and the stock Sandisk 16gb card that came with my tmous hd2, but I recently tried a wintec 16gb card that made Android run like a broke-wheel-cart and other sd cards I have laying around make it fail.
I think everyone needs to add what card they are using to their signature, or else we might all just end up howling in the wind.
Based on some feedback from another post I just ordered this Sandisk 16gb card from Newegg. It is Model # SDSDQ-016G-A11M . It is reported that that model# provides class10 speeds even though it is sold as a class2. It's use with Android is supposed to be good.
Thank you for reading my question. I've read multiple forums here trying to find a solution to my quest before breaking down and posting this question.
J4mm3r has created a dualboot menu which allows for the selection of 2 different ROM's or recovery mode. Racks has a couple of threads where he discusses putting 2 different ROM's on those partitions so that you can keep your Stock NC software on the eMCC and boot into either the 'normal' ROM or the 'alternate' ROM.
Here's what I am trying to do and would like some help if anyone is able to assist.
My NC was bought for my wife, but I'm the techie in the family and love how it functions as a tablet. Rather than prepare 2 separate SD cards (one for her and one for me) I was thinking it would be possible to install the same ROM on a dualboot SD card so that when the NC is turned on it defaults to her CM7.1 and when I want to mess around with it (while she is out... of course), I can boot into the 'alternate' ROM.
I've installed CM7.1 Encore for her and everything seems to be working great. I'd like to install the same build for the 'alternate' ROM but just can't figure out how to get the correct partitions built and how to put that ROM on the right partition for it to load that way.
Can anyone out there help?
Cheers!
