Calling all XDa IIi owners...OPINIONS PLEASE

I had my XDA II stolen at gatwick airport last week (sniff sniff) and am now looking to replace it.
From the complete range of HTC PDA's the XDA IIi seems to be tickling my fancy the most but I haven't really come across a single comprehensive review.
So are people who have purchased it happy?
Whilst I am aware that there are problems with the camera I can live with it as long as it is not worse than the XDA II .
So what say you O Ye owners of the IIi?

I got mine last week and I'm honestly torn...
The camera is CR*P, completely so! But as I never used the one on the XDA2 for more than the odd picture message and photo record I'm not particularly bothered - though it's a cheek for O2 to pronounce it as a major step forward when in many ways it's a regressive one.
My major headache is the IR and Bluetooth...IR seems even worse now than on the XDA2 - unless I'm missing something - and the BT stack currently on my phone means I cannot use the O2 BT clip headset (made by iTech) due to this (in my opinion) stupid handsfree obsession. Surely it would be a good idea to have a headset AND a handsfree option that WORKS. I understand on some headsets it works a treat, but given I've got one being sold by O2 on their website I would normally assume it would work.
That said, the 2i is a great phone in itself and if I weren't already spoilt having had the XDA and XDA2 before it, I would be in absolute amazment.
They've finally managed to get the o2activeui thing in a state which isn't too bad and I may even consider keeping it - though it's harder to remove than in the past.
If you have to upgrade which it sounds as though you do given your circumstances, I'd choose the 2i over the 2s...at least the 2i is a better phone spec wise though without the keyboard (gimmick if you ask me).

Thanks for the feedback Anthony. One thing that's slightly irritating me is a few places i've visited on the net state how previews often have some of the specs wrong on the O2 site it states that the IIi has 128MB SDRam and 128MB Flash......is this accurate?
Have you tried out the Wifi and if so what d'you reckon?
Does the faster processor make a noticeable difference? e.g on my XDA II I was running loads of today plug ins as well as several applications by default I'd do a soft re-set at least once a day
As for the IIs even though when I compare the II and the IIs side by side it doen't appear that much bigger it still has a bulky-ish look about it and I just don't find it appealing enough to contemplate a purchase.

I have tried out the Wi-Fi and it seems OK to me, certainly it's a welcome feature. However I don't have a Wi-Fi card that I can compare experiences on...all I know is I didn't have one before and now I have a wi-fi connection. That can't be bad.
I don't have enough stuff loaded onto the phone to make a judgment on the processor. With the 2 I had lots of things running such as WeatherPanel and KitaraGenesis - also at one point Pocket Plus. From what I've seen so far the 2i does feel a bit faster...there's also a Turbo feature which does seem to further increase performance.
The 2i is exactly the same size I think, perhaps a smidge heavier. Having said that, if you compare most mobiles these days, the XDA series is no longer heavier than the majority. Besides, if you've got a PDA phone you're not expecting it to be light as a feather.
As I said previously, now you've got no option I would definitely go to the 2i...

As to theWiFii hadaXDA2 witha SandiskWiFi Card, then changed to the XDA2s, then after 4 replacements i now have a XDA2i, ifind the XDA2i range and speed of reconnecting to WiFi very very good, the XDA2s worked as well asthe XDA2 + SD WiFi Card.
I like the 2ivery much, only problem is i gave away all my XDA2 bits when i got the 2s, so now i have lots of bits for a phone i dont have and a 2i with no spair bits, got i wish i haddent got rid of my old XDA2 bits
i still soft rest a few times aday, but i am used to donigthis now and dont have a problem doing it, The Bluetooth for headsets (jabbra 250) works as well on the 2i as it did on the old XDA2, where as the 2s was total crap

Applecom, how do you find the camera?
Has the bluetooth improved at all? With my XDA II I also has a Jabra BT250 whilst I found it excellent at close range as soon as the device was in (or out) the metal proporta case and in my pocket I got alot of static...also can you now hear the different ringtones in your bluetooth headset or is it still the same generic one?
Finally, if I get the phone from O2 with their minimum line rental fee it works out to about 407 quid in total....anyone know of any cheaper places?

After hearing about the new XDA2s i purchased a sim free PDA2k, but the microphone on it was crap and the bluetooth (headset) range was like 6 inches after that it sounded terrible.
So as soon as we could get a UK XDA2s we did ( we are a small phone shop) i got it sim free, This was just as crap as the PDA2k, Sothen i did a upgrade to a XDA2s with o2 Select, and of corse this was crap as well
(by crap i mean the mic was terrible people had problems hearing me, and the bluetooth headset only worked if you held the phone next to it, as a PDA it was sort of alright)
so after speaking to o2 about its problems and the fact the keybopard soon comes loose, it was changed probley every 2-3 weeks, never any better for phopne calls but of corse a new one the keyboard is still tight (for a while)
anyway after the 6th phone (4th o2 replacement) i changed it to a XDA2i
The camera in the XDA2i just gives a bigger crap picture, but at leat i can make phone calls on this one and people can hear me, and i dont have to drive down the road with my bluetooth ear piece in and have to hold the phone to the ear piece to use it

Not to get on your nelly but can you now hear the different ringtones in your bluetooth headset or is it still the same generic one?

my jabra 250 just makes the ring sound, just like on the old XDA2, no personalised ring tones, despite using IA Caller 1.2

Does the movie function work better?
I know the camera makes a bigger "crap" photo but how is the video? On my XDAII, with all the today plug in's, the thing records crap even at the best settings. With a fresh ROM and nothing installed, I can get a decent video if I set the refresh rate and set it to daylight, (even for night shots), but after I install some programs, no settings can keep it from being choppy and slow or keep the sound in sync with the video.
Believe it or not, the video function, as bad as it is, actually saved my ass from going to jail.. If the XDA2i has better video performance, and it sounds like the BT is better, I want one... Is there any place besides eBay and O2?
Could someone tell us what version of the BT stack it is?
Any body try it with two serial ports yet? (One for a GPS and one for a Printer or POS device (like from Merchantanywhere.com).

the bt stack on my xda2i is 1.0.0.3900

Mine is also 1.0.3900 and I can't use o2's bt clip headset with it....refuses to play ball yet others work fine.

By clip do you mean the earpiece, with a foot of wire then a clip on bluetooth reciever? If you do O2 sent one of them out to me but as i use a jabra 250 i never tried the clip thing.
Would you like me to try it with my XDA2i (also version 3900)

I have both an XDAII and an XDAIIi and would be willing to give some comparitive information regarding them. Or try to answer any specific questions you have about them.
On another note, what alternatives do we have here with regard to a Windows Mobile device?

Advice with Wizard purchase

Hello everyone.
I'm seriously considering purchasing a Qtek 9100. I wanted to ask a few questions before I go ahead and I'm hoping someone could help me. I wanted to buy a qtek primarily because of the color (slight darker silver). Is the qtek any different from the O2, K-jam.. and all other versions? I know O2 comes with a preinstalled software interface but are there any other differences? Particularly in processor performance or perhaps resolved bugs?
Question number two is adding a TomTom 5.21 Bluetooth GPS. I do not have much experience with GPS systems and quite frankly I just intend to get the Bluetooth receiver (from TomTom) and perhaps download a copy of the software online (Cracked-torrent [of course for educational purpose ] ). Is this going to work or is it absolutely necessary to purchase the software otherwise the GPS unit will throw me off a cliff. Or is there a better GPS system worth acquiring? (for UK).

As far as I know all hardware of the different brands at the same; they all come from the HTC factories. Only software varies. If you are going to use it with an GRPS connection I would advise a branded version (you'll get great value and save some serious bucks) if not the QTEK is the only one that comes without SIM lock. You can swap the ROM as you like, after unlocking they all work with the QTEK, K-JAM or any other rom version as long as it's for a HTC Wizard phone.
As for the TomTom, it'll work, but you still need to purchase TomTom if you want to use it. How else will they improve the software if noone buys and they their cash runs dry? (Board policy )
Only the K-JAM Rom allows you to connect to a WIFI network that uses the G standard, but it'll still be only at 11 mb/s. So that shouldn't be an issue. Localized (non english) versions do have some issues but none of great importance.
Go ahaed, buy one. I don't know anyone that regrets it.

In my eyes, the most important thing you have to bear in mind is that the Qtek version of the Wizard has one major flaw: the paint of the 'messaging', 'internet explorer' , etc. buttons comes off. I have not only read about this on multiple forums, but a friend of mine has experienced this first hand.
as far as I know, Qtek is the only manufacturer who has tried to save some expenses on 'quality paint'

Many wish T-Mobile used QTEK's paint It would have saved a lot of people scrubbing hard with a sugarcube to get the ugly pink ie-like symbol off

Thank you, le cactus. That's a very enlightening response. I would most definitely buy one soon. I've read quite a bit about the the Wizard and I know it came out under different manufacturer brands. I chose the qtek only because I personally liked the darker design. Its really a personal preference. I also wanted to make sure they didn't differ too much in stability.
I will support TomTom as it is the only right thing to do. Again, I just needed to confirm that it worked following a 'different' approach. Thanks a bunch, mate.
I can't wait to purchase my Wizard as my old nokia 5100 is ready to retire. I can't wait for my new toy.

I'm not too bothered with wifi g as well. I don't expect considerable difference with the Wizard's condervative processor speed. Furthermore, I don't intend to use the device for intensive surfing. I might restrict use to checking emails and occasional surfing when I'm too lazy to get up and use my computer.

Why is A2DP not included in ROM 2.16.9.1 WWE?

I've been waiting for AKU2 ever since it was announced back around Christmas. It finally got released from Imate today and after flashing my KJAM there is still no Stereo Headset profile??? What gives? Anybody know why it's not there, I thought this was supposed to be one of the big features of AKU2 besides push mail?

I read on another forum (I only quickly looked, honest, this is the only forum for me) that the A2DP profile caused the device to slow down too much and they were removing it for that reason. When I read it it was just a rumor but it looks like they were correct.
I dare say after some more tweaking that it will return as the slowdown only occurs when the profile is active.
If you really need it use the Qtek 2.8.x.x rom on the FTP server as it is very stable if not fully optimised.

But DANG IT, they should have released it and just had a pop up warning or something,"Performance may be impacted during music playback via the Bluetooth headset." Or something at least. I don't mind if the PPC is sluggish while I'm listening to Podcasts! ARGH!
I heard the Qtek ROM was kinda buggy. I'm not sure I want to flash to something that's gonna make my phone unstable all the time. Have you used that ROM?

I am using the Qtek aku2. Its far from buggy.
As far as i can say they could have made it general available.

Using the Qtek ROM as well [just got a pair of stereo BT headsets yesterday] and I don't see any performance issues as well. Maybe it also depends on what you have installed on your device. I probably won't be updating the imate ROM if it doesn't have a2dp. I don't need the push email but I am enjoting the BT music streaming heehee
Try out the Qtek ROM it might be ok for your device.

No offense but you seem to be saying imate should have released it with A2DP bugs, but you don't want to use the qtek beta because it might have bugs. Err make your mind up dude.

I don't think sluggish performance using A2DP is necessarily a bug. Given that the processor is only 200mhz and streaming 128kbps stereo audio over Bluetooth is processor intensive, it's probably just the nature of the beast. It may turn out that Qtek will remove A2DP from their final ROM as well after they get feedback about the beta firmware.
Do you guys know if the Qtek beta ROM fixed the Storage Card disconnecting issue? Because the KJAM AKU2 update has finally resolved this issue for me. I can leave programs open on the storage card and turn the device off and on and the programs don't crash out anymore.

Can you please post a WORKING link to the QTEK9100 AKU2 Test ROM with the working A2DP? The ones I've found are not working. Otherwise, can someone arrange to email it to me?

i was also pretty annoyed that A2DP had been left out of this update as i had bought myself a set of stereo bluetooth headphones for xmas in anticipation of the update and now they will continue to sit on a shelf gathering dust.
I thought why not email i-mate - [email protected] - and ask them. To tell you the truth i was not expecting an answer (or at least not for several days) as with my previous experiences.
Well i was pleasantly surprised (amazed even) that i-mate replied to my email within 3 hours. They said:

Regarding your query, please note that our engineers are working to integrate the A2DP profile on Windows Mobile 5 devices via ROM upgrades but we do not have yet any information or release date for this update hence, we would suggest that you keep a regular check on the www.clubimate.com for further information about new upgrades, releases and services.

I thought this is cool but wanted confirmation that A2DP would be released as an update for the K-JAM and current devices and not just future / new devices so i asked them to confirm this for me, This time i recieved a reply within minutes:

Overall i must say this was the best support experience i have ever had from i-mate. Maybe they are listening to us after all. Of course no timeframes as is the i-mate way but it does look promising for us.

wow! :shock: when I owned an i-mate JAM I waited for 2 weeks until I got a reply. I guess i-mate is learning to treat their customers better... too bad I already switched to dopod and since Manila has a very small difference in time [dopod's singapore office - I think a few hours] I usually get replies within the day... still like i-mate dopod has no timeline and answers with the generic lines...

Theres been a few recent posts around here and other forums speculating exactly why A2DP did not make it into the recent i-mate update.
Some of these posts have been suggesting that the A2DP 128k audio stream is too resource intesive for the Wizard's 200MHz Ti Omap850 CPU.
So, i thought i would ask one of the Microsoft Mobility guys on his MSDN Blog to see if he could confirm this. I also own imate kjam and want to use Motorola HT 820 bluetooth headset. Form this thread it looks that if I install Qtek ROM on imate then I'd be able to use this headset.

Universal Sound & Static Issues

Hi I was just wondering what different users experiences have been like using the Universal in the US I have a QTEK 9100 which performs perfectly however I needed the larger screen and went with the Imate Jasjar and everyone complains of a hollow sound and or echoes on or off the headset while I'm talking to them --------I'm a realist and understand that the PDA/Phone is hardly ever going to outperform your traditional handset however that is not the case with my Wizards 9100 & 8125 from Cingular they perform well and are crystal clear I feel now that I am sitting with an overpriced brick and have spent countless hours loading new roms and trying new headsets nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any of these problems and if not any ideas or pointers I love this device but right now I cant use it Please Help

HTC TyTN vs i-mate JASJAM

Now that the JasJam has made an appearance I would like to start a thread to compare these two models - especially as I have not yet plunged into a purchase.
1. The screen shots of the two variants appear to show a slight difference in the spacing of the buttons. I have been told by a reseller that JasJam's buttons have raised symbols and have a better feel where as TyTN's are flat. Can anyone comment on that?
2. There appears to be some confusion about Bluetooth. The club i-mate web site states that JasJam is Bluetooth v1.2 without EDR, however, the specs on a number of the reseller's sites states v2.0. HTC states ton its site that the TyTN is v2.0 without EDR. Can anyone clear that up?
3. The club i-mate site states the JasJam has IrDA whereas HTC makes no mention of this for TyTN. However, a reseller who sells both has told me that both variants have IrDA. Can anyone confirm that?
4. Finally, there is much discussion about screen alignment issues with the TyTN, however, I have seen nothing yet to suggest that the JasJam is suffering from the same fate. I did see one other post on another forum wondering about the same question. Can anyone pass a comment about that most importand topic?
Presently, in the USA at least the resell price is about $150 more for the JasJam. The answers to the 4 questions above will go along way to determining whether ther premium price is worth paying or not.

1. The JasJam is a HERM100 device. The TyTN is a HERM200. They are identical functionally. The difference is the button configuration.
2. Both phones have Bluetooth 2.0 without EDR (makes you wonder how they can that BT2.0, but that's another conversation).
3. Both have IrDA (which most people never use)
4. (Never had a screen alignment problem with two TyTN's and never used a JasJam).
I can tell you that I had originally intended to buy the i-Mate version (there seem to be more frequent ROM updates, support website, etc.), but I definitely don't feel it's worth a premium price.
Furthermore, i-Mate seems to flood its ExtROM with a bunch of crap, which you'll need to remove anyway...
Just my opinion...

JASJAM
I have a JASJAM and I agree on a couple of points that have been raised, unecessary software loads, the stability is improved over the initial release of the K-Jam, the buttons and keyboard are excellent.
Additional points on the positive are the black finish is very strong and after one fall from the car to the road I have no scratches and screen intact. The jog wheel is reason alone to upgrade as responding to email is fast and easy because it can navigate pretty well all menus with it and not having to use the stylus..
This the first 3G phone I have been able to use as Edge on the K-Jam is unsupported here in Australia; so the higher download speed and using this as a USB modem are excellent.
An annoying point is that the push email doesn't work on WLan it only works on GPRS and I am desperately looking for the registry hack to fix this to save $ on downloads.
The WMP Today utility is really useful being able to control Media Player from the Today Screen is really handy for padcast playback. However it would be even more useful if the jog wheel worked on this utility as well as the buttons are too small for finger use.
Having A2DP work out of the box is great and I have no skipping as others have reported.
Overall downloading and playing back podcasts on this phone is a very enjoyablevexperience. As an initial experience with this device (and I have used PDAs since the Palm Vx) it is a very functional and reliable item.

I have the JasJam and I bought because it looked better the TyTN to me. Technically I should I have purchased the TyTN (because it was cheaper)but I did not like keyboard when I tried it. I have not had the alignment issue but I can't say it does not exist because not too many people with the JasJam yet.
