OK I really need your help. Read some forum but still confused. I am out of town for a business and in a hurry I just picked up my plug for my XDA II without that little adatpor that fits into your phone. Can I just pick up an adaptor for bestbuy for an ipaq? Any suggestion how I can charge this baby? I have the plug but not the adaptor that fits the phone. thank you
jaz
go to this page
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/Connectors
and read
Modifying iPaq accessories
The quick answer is NO. The power dongle for an iPaq will fry your XDA II device. The connectors are the same but the pinouts are not. Don't do it!
As Rudegar posted above, you can modify the iPaq power dongle to work with the XDA II, but I don't think I would have the necessary tools to make this conversion while traveling, and I suspect you do not either. I would look hard for a dongle for the XDA or XDA II, as either will work.
:-(
That's what I was afraid of. So there is no way I can use the phone for a week?

Said he is using h5500 to charge his phone. can anyone else confirm that? I also read that xdaII pinout changed. I am confused. I don't want to fry my phone but I do need my phone this week.
PS Is there any local dealer I can walk in and buy a chrager? I am in GA now
jaz
As I am, he is using the TRANSFORMER from his HP5500, but connecting it to the power dongle that came with his i-mate. As has been said - don't use the power dongle from an HP/Compaq.
Being anywhere in the US is problematic for buying any XDA II accessories. You might try a T-Mobile store or a CompUSA and see if any have the power dongle or cradle for an SX56/T-Mobile PocketPC Phone.
so plug for t-mobile pocketpc phone will work? here is a link
http://t-mobile.com/products/access...icename=T-Mobile Pocket PC 2003 Phone Edition
Thanks
ok
I just want to make sure before i buy the car charger from T-mobile that it will not blow my motherboard. The car charger from t-mobile will charge my xda II phone?
Well . . . will it?
To the best of my knowledge it will. I own an i-mate and have never owned an XDA, but I remember reading that the charger will work.
I keep waiting for someone who has owned both an XDA and an XDA II to chime in and tell me I am either right or wrong - but so far nobody has uttered a peep!
Come on folks! Will an XDA power dongle/car charger/cradle charge the XDA II or not? Personal experience would be reassuring I'm sure.
got it working
I just wanted to let the community know that I went to the T-mobile store and picked up a car charger and everything is charged my phone. I have phone back.
thanks for all the help.

BRosenow
i've had both a xda1 and 2 and i still use the cradle and power charger from the xda1 on my xda2 so their power pin out are the same

Yes, if you re read my post I said I am using the power part of the iPAQ unit but connected to the XDA II dongle. I AM NOT USING AN IPAQ DONGLE
Ed
Rudegar - Thanks for the confirmation for me, for Jazlee . . . and for anyone who does a search in the future! Very helpful first-hand information.
Jazlee - I am glad you are back in business! I can't imagine being without my i-mate for a week - particularly while traveling. That's when you need it MOST! Congratulations.
Please share the most annoying thing that you don't like about your i-Mate, O2 Mini or something similar to it.
I have the O2 XDA IIs and the one part I hate about it is the inabillity to answer call the first try. It does this every hour on the hour.
I have never had a problem with my O2 XDA II. Other than the incompatibility with SPB Pocket Plus on the occasion hard reset, but to say the least it's a software problem, not hardware.
I'm thinking of upgrading to an i-Mate Jam because of the size and the 1.3 mega pixel camera. I'm thinking of upgrading the ram to 128mb from PPCTech, I don't think 64mb is enough, since my old Compaq iPaq 3955 had 64mb and HP iPaq 4155 wasn't enough.
Please share before I jump the gun and purchase the i-Mate. Thank you.
1) the camera is no good (Nokia 7610 1.3MP beats it handsdown IMO). even after the patches and fixes. bearable for snaps.
2) the bluetooth is MS stack. not a problem more of a preference; been spoiled by Widcomm on my previous PPC (an iPAQ), interface is not as easy with wizards.
other than that I love my JAM!!! but get an O2XDAIImini they say it has better resale value.
I heard that the i-Mate jam or similar to it, like the O2 Mini has a problem with picking up calls? If someone calls, it'll get drop, but after a soft reset, it doesn't do that. Is that true? That's almost the same problem as the XDA IIs or PDA2K.
More irritations
when the XDA Mini battery saving function is set, the system goes into sleep mode after the annointed period.
If you are using bluetooth headset (mine is plantronics M3000) on lengthy conversations you loose half the conversation (transmission side only , reception works OK) when the sleep mode activates, until you turn the unit back on. So you either have to live with the reductiion of battery life, the signal loss or remember to turn off the sleep mode, mid conversation.
Others have reported similar problems with no fixes in sight.
The battery life is disappointing but I have not owned other PDA's to compare it with.
The camera is a gimmick only, not for serious use.
I also have trouble in some internet sites requiring pop-up password entry
input (ie. one of my bank accounts) where it just will not acknowledge the data input. Dont know why, and the bank IT people cant explain it either. It works well on another similar banking site. ????
But.. all things considered, it is a pretty useful gadget.
PS; Cant buy any accessories in Australia yet, but www.boxwave.com in USA was a useful site and easy to deal with.
I haven't had any probs with battery life on my Mini. Much better than my SE T610, particularly when you consider the Mini does a double duty of phone and PDA.
Camera works fine for what its there for. Its not designed to replace a digicam, just be there for those moments you don't have it with you.
Not had any of these call problems described.

I'd have to disagree with these two comments, I think the battery life is good on the JAM and as for accessories, lots of online aussie gadget shops sell accessories for the JAM.
http://www.expansys.com.au/
http://www.mrgadget.com.au/
just to name a few.
I shall sit corrected and withdraw my remarks about the accessories in Australia.
Thanks for the links. Have already used one and the other was helpful.
When looking around early last month I coud find accessories listed on websites but nil stocks available. I was impatient so I got my soft case from the states, and aluminium case from Singapore while visiting. Good to see the local have caught up. Although they probably all come from the same places
Thanks for the Input
Thanks for the input, I was curious and now I found the answer.
As long as the pda don't act like my O2 XDA IIs, then I'm fine. I hate it when I pick up a call and can't hear anything on the other end until I have to soft reset it.
I love my O2 XDA II, but it's lacking buttons and keyboard. Both the II and IIs is too big, so I'm gonna try the Mini.
Anyone wants to buy any of my XDA II or IIs? Hehe, I'm serious.

You've been trying to sell this for the last for months it seems - stick it in the m.e.n or the loot! Or stick it on ebay - asking the same things in different threads won't necessarily get you different answers....perhaps if you posted a price that you wanted rather than asking for offers. As I guide I sold a mint one on ebay last week for £300. The sooner you sell it, the more it'll sell for - the price of new technology goes down, not up, with age.

Mine is worth more than a refurb one because I have:
iPaq HX4700 (as new boxed) With WM5 installed
Original cradle, instructions, cables, disks and box etc
3 stylus including 1 with built in pen
Spare Battery 2000mAh x 2
Spare Battery 3600mAh x 1
External standalone charger for spare batteries
Additional power/sync cable
HP emergency charger (works off 9v battery)
Clip-on Thumbpad (part no 375265-001)
GPS - Rikaline X6 High Sensitivity CF Receiver (brand new still in box unused except for testing)
I agree , E-bay is crap ! I have just tried to sell my Exec and ended up in a tricky situation with a buyer with no feedback trying to get me to send to and unverified address - Paypal state that I'll only be covered by the seller protection policy if I send to a verified address , But I mailed e-bay about the matter and they suggested I go ahead and sell to the guy anyway ! talk about contradiction !
This is the third succesive time I have tried to sell an item on ebay and had the auction end with some idiot trying to rip me off
E-bay only seem to be interested in collecting their fee
Fortunately , I found a buyer oustside of ebay , and should I be looking to sell anything in the future , I'll be doing the same
Ebay just seems to be a big headache where higher value items are concerned these days :?

Hp's have *warranty* as well, and the 'refurb' classification is a generalisation, I have it on good authority the ebay items are brand new end of line with a full 2 yr warranty. They're even selling them from hp's www.ipaqchoice.co.uk site for £250! All the accesories are cheap too....
Richard
I can't help myself...
Ipaq choice are not cheap for accessories. If you purchase the accessories from Ipaq Choice you would pay £519.48 The following prices are cut and paste directly from the Ipaq Choice website
(they exclude VAT),
Screen Protectors Covertec £9.36
Battery 1,800 mAh (hx4700 series) HP £48.51
Extended Battery 3,600mAh (hx4700) HP £82.55
iPAQ 9-Volt Emergency Power Adapter HP-Belkin £8.51
USB Power Sync Travel Kit Belkin £29.78
Stylus 3-Pack Replacement Kit HP £11.91
Thumb Keyboard HP £27.23
SD Card (512MB) HP £62.12
GPS Receiver G-Space £110.63
HP iPAQ hx4700 Pocket PC HP £295.74
You are welcome to think that the HX4700 is nowhere near as good as a HTC Universal, however I personally think both PDAs have pros and cons. The biggest con for the HX4700 is the lack of built in phone and 3G (although it wasn't orginally purchased as that type of device). While the HTC Universal is relatively big and heavy, and as good as the screen is, it's still not as good or big as the HX4700. Not everyone wants their phone built in to a PDA.
I've made a choice that I need my phone built into my PDA, and I need 3G speed so I have a HTC Universal, however it took me many months to finally accept that I could not keep using 2 PDAs. I've lived with both devices for a long time and it's not as clear cut as "the HX4700 is nowhere near as good as a universal".

If we're going brand new, full price, then a Universal / jasjar is £644.95

I've still got them both, and I've also run the wm2005 update for the hx4700 ( did you? It's only just out - the official version I mean  )
and do not rate it in comparison for the Universal. There is a lag opening menus despite the fast processor, and the display on the ipaq doesn't compare with my toshiba e800 or the jasjar in VGA.
Richard
I obvioulsy misunderstood about your mention of cheap accessories
There are some good registry tweaks for getting the HX4700 running smoothly, they are different to the HTC Universal ones. In my opinion I got the HX4700 running faster. I use a USA ROM and yes I've only had it installed for 3 weeks but that was long enough to get to know the performance.
My wife has my old Toshiba e800 and again in my opinion the screen is not as good as the iPaq. I'm sorry if you don't like me having a different opinion to you.
I have already said how good I think the HTC Universal is - I already own one!
I respect your opinions and I also like other PDA's!
Be happy

Hello peeps,
I am SKINT. BROKE. POOR.
My mate is also giving me his Vario 2......Now I love my Ameo, the speed and everything is great BUT....I dont think I am rich enough to own one at the moment.....
I use the hard drive....but I have a 4 GB mem stick...
I used the GPS on my motorbike....once....Worked out I need a car.
I love watching movies on this, anything I download willl play on this baby
BUT I now dont use my PSP...
I spend too much time installing Crap and finding out I will never use it......
I dont know how much this is worth, it has small mark(tiny) on keyboard at bottom and small mark above the screen on the far right where the keyboard rubs.
apart from that, its mint.
I have everything from the box: (inc box)
Charger
headset
Case thing
Spare pen
Brown leather flip case.
Also in the err...case thing:
one of those 4 in 1 adapters with USB and Svid/composit out from expansys.
An Svid cable
512 mini SD card and adapter
Screen cleaner (nicked it from blackberry)
Its obviously still on WM 5.
Its running Mytrue VGA and works pretty flawlessly.
It has TOM TOM with UK maps.
Microdrive even has some PRON on it for lucky bidder.......
This is the second one I have had from T-mobile. It is about 7 weeks old.
(my mate dropped the other one and I had to do some quick talking )
Anyone want to make me an offer?
I live in London and work in the city, I have motorbike and I can get to most places pretty quick, like Microchip. I will be well willing to travel for some cash.
I would like cash for this beast but I would consider a reasonably specced laptop as a swap.....(as long as it works, condition of laptop is not an issue.)
Anyone>?
How much are you looking for for it ?, I am after one to replace my MDA Vario II and am a cash buyer, I am watching 5 ameo's on ebay at the moment !
Still awaiting your reply...
@Yarod_g14.
I PM'd you a couple of days ago...still no reply either way to date.
You still selling or is it already sold?
I dont need it now, bought one off ebay this morning, cost £450 for a brand new Ameo, I'm happy now !, time to pension off my vario II and XDA exec that it replaces
Interested in your Ameo
I am in Australia and would definately be interested in your unit for AU$500 + AU$50 postage.
Send me an email to the address I left in your private messages if you are interested in discussing further...

HTC Touch Pro 2nd Battery USB Cradle
HTC Touch Pro USB Cradle
anyone comment on the shop/cradle? I'm having to resist buying one atm tbh =D
Shop is great, I bought from them in the past couple of times. As for the cradle - wait a week, just bought the 2-battery one
i like the idea of it coming with it's own power supply as, correct if wrong, it can be mains chargins/syncing @ the same time?
someone convince me not to buy the 2nd battery dock .. brando said they're in stock now .. must resist D:
Got the cradle today, very impressed, comes with charger, sync cable, good quality, but a bit on the big side. But the price made it worht while at $15.00
would recommend it

Product code SUSCR018602 UK Type
Straight from Brando. I got two fro $51.00 inc shipping from Hong Kong.
They arrived 5 days after i placed the order.
Mine also arrived. It's great for that price.
It has one downside - the same my previous Eten M700 cradle had - very bright LED light. I have to use my black sticking tape again
