Guys you must see this it is very cool
XDA II mini with New GARMIN GPS Bluetooth

Which GPS SW is being used (It goes in land too ) on those images?

It is the new Garmin GPS 10 Bluetooth
http://www.garmin.com/products/gps10/
I 'need' one of those!
Olly.

Does the bluetooth actually stay alive when connected to the Jam - or does it fall asleep and disconnect after 15 mins like the problem people have with bluetooth earpieces?

The GPS10 stays active as long as it has a bluetooth link, once the link is broken for 15 minutes it turns itself off.
You can use a BT headset and chat away while navigating too. The voice commands auto mute during a phone call.

Best setup for using both a carkit and GPS Nvigation?!

I am soon to buy the Magician in one of it's many forms. However noe thing i have been woundering is how am i am going to achieve the in-car setup i desire. Basically I need both a carkit (conversation through car stereo speakers etc) and i also want to run GPS navigation on the Magician. First of all is this possible? What happens if i am using the GPS and i recieve a call? Also what hardware are people using to achieve this as i assume i can't use both a bluetooth carkit and a bluetooth GPS reciever?! any hlp is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom
Hi Tom,
I've got an iMate Jam & recently installed a Parrot BTluetooth CK3300 GPS Car Kit into my 1999 RAV4. The installation was pretty straight forward for cars with ISO connection, simply put in the mic, GPS ant & control display, plug into the car harness & HiFi & off you go. The GPS part of the kit is simply & effective, I use Tom Tom Navigator 5 & it's pretty faultless, obtaining a fix in seconds. Here's the bad part, the call quality through the kit using the Jam is AWFUL. Making and receiving calls is accompanied by a loud, high pitched warbling sound which eventually subsides, but is replaced by so much interference that the call is unworkable. I know it's not the kit because my wife's SE T68i works flawlessly. Everything else about the setup works perfectly (pairing muting, upgrading via BT etc etc). This a MAJOR problem which I have sent on to Parrot & am waiting for a reply. I understand they are pretty good at customer enquiries and expect them to come back to me pretty soon. I'll post again when I hear something. Despite all the bad press the Jam gets I think it's the best one I've owned so far (I'm on my 5th) and with the right software is excellent, but the choice of car kit is essential, until these problems are ironed out I wouldn't recommend using the PDA with a BT carkit.
Apart from the poor audio, how does it work when you are being navigated by TomTom and you receive a call? Does TomTom stop talking to you? Does the display show who's calling and then go back to tomtom display etc?
Hi there,
I have a MDA compact with now the QTEK 1.12 ROM, I have a bluetooth GPS Fortuna Clip-on and a Mr Handsfree Genius Bluetooth Carkit and I love it.
As soon as I start my car, there is a bluetooth connection to the carkit and the sound quality is excellent. You can make a call without getting the MDA out of your pocket, just push the button. The only issue is voice dialing, but that is a common problem for the MDA.
Also it makes a bluetooth connection to the GPS and Tomtom works fine. The only minus is that Tomtom doesn't use the carkit speaker, but, since the speaker of the MDA is loud enough, that is no issue. There is no supply with this bluetooth carkit, so I bought a 12 --> 5 Volt converter for the MDA.
I really love this combination. The best thing, that happened to me.

so it is possible then to have two bluetooth connections running at the same time? ie. i can use a bluetooth GPS reciever such as the one that is supplied with tom tom and also use any bluetooth carkit at the same time? and this will not cause any problems even if i am making a call and have the GPS running?! If so then i will probably just buy the Tom Tom 5 bluetooth kit and get something like a parrot CK3000? would this setup work?
thanks for everyones help,
Tom
It should work. Mine does. See above. Bluetooth GPS uses a serial profile, bluetooth headset uses a headset profile. No problem to use them both at the same time.
Andre
I used my Jam as phone, mp3 player and GPS all at the same time.
1. MP3 thru my car's aux input
2. GPS thru aux input:
hardware: Tomtom BT receiver
Software: Routis 2, TomTom USA 2004 (can open both if U use GPSGate)
3. Phone thru BT headset or aux input
To answer yr question:
Since I can use both BT GPS and BT headset together. I don't think it's a problem for both BT carkit and BT GPS to works.
Phone call always get highest prioity, all other apps (GPS software, mp3 player) will be mute until U finished yr call.
Phone call is not a problem (see above) but dialing is a big trouble since no voice calling built-in. Third partner software like intellidialer and voice commander (from MS or Cyberon) helps a bit
Ive also got my jam working fine incar. I use a socket bluetooth gps unit http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=119717 with tomtom 5 then I have a SE HBH-600 Akono Bluetooth Headset for calls both work together! When I have a incoming call it mutes tomtom and displays the normal caller id app on top, answering the call (via the green hardware button) results in my jam going to the phone app totally and leaving tomtom minimized in the background. As soon as the call ends tomtom jumps back to the foreground, it all works very well in my opinion. Ive also assigned the camera button to switch me back to the today screen so I can launch any app (with tomtom still running in the background) via a icon.

TomTom Bluetooth GPS & Bluetooth Handsfree

Is it possible to still talk handsfree using my bluetooth carkit whilst simultaneously using a bluetooth GPS receiver to run TomTom Navigator 5?
I was just about to post about this very topic ....
Whenever I receive a call to my Bluetooth headset when I'm running tomtom it cuts off my connection to the gps receiver. The call comes through to the headset properly and tomtom mutes itself but then it says that there's no gps receiver. Strangely it comes back every minute or so for a few seconds but then disconnects again. As soon as the call ends it works fine. I'm using the £40 bluetooth gps receiver from mobilefun.com, an O2 XDA Mini S and an O2 Bluetooth headset.
Has anyone else seen the same symptoms?
Cheers

I have no problems with this but I have found out that I need the phone app to run in the background before I start TomTom. Otherwise I will miss my incoming calls. I am using my "old" Nokia BT headset.
No problems here with a Holux GPSlim and Nokia old thing... Never had a problem with having the phone app open/closed.
tomtom 5 will mute the tomtom audio when you receive/make a call and should come back on when you finish the call, the phone app should not need to be started first, i can even use voice dial
Same for me Tom Tom running and I can use my very old bluetooth headset and voice dialing Tom Tom just mutes but keeps running while making a call. Hang up and everything goes back to normal.
This should not be a problem. Are you using the 5.21 version?
On the Himalaya this works just fine since Bluetooth was implemented properly (from 1.72.00 roms onwards). Therefore it would suprise me (I ordered my Wizard 2 days ago) if this would not work anymore.
Thanks for the replies.
Today my B'Tooth GPS arrived and as advised it all works correctly; even when connected to my Nokia B’Tooth hands free car kit, I was especially impressed how TomTom 5.21 switches on the B’Tooth automatically when started, connects after 15 sec or so and disconnects upon exiting the application.
I am very pleased with MDA Vario, I rate the whole package higher than my old XDa2S.

TyTN bluetooth car kit issues

Hi everybody,
I completed some tests using my bluetooth car kit (Audi integrated BT MMI car kit). Here is what I saw :
With the original french ROM (1.18.256.2)
Outgoing calls
90% of the calls were interrupted during dialing or connection. The main problem was UMTS stability with the french mobile operator named SFR. After deactivating UMTS/3G and falling back to GSM, 80% of the calls were interrupted during the first minute of communication because of BT unstability.
Incoming calls
Impossible to take a call : half were immediatly interrupted, half were answered using the internal micro instead of the BT one.
With the JasJam ROM (1.20.305.3)
Outgoing calls
After deactivating UMTS/3G support all the calls are stable. Every thing is working fine and the Audi BT car kit works just fine !
Incoming calls
Still impossible to take a call : quite all are not well handled. BT is still unusable to take calls.
I don't think the BT car kit is the problem, because I am using it every day with a Qtek 8310 (Tornado) and both incoming and outgoing calls are well handled.
If you've got some experience, please share it. I am so disapointed that this marvelous TyTN cannot replace my Tornado, only because this "merdique" (<------ french romantic word ) bluetooth functionnality is not working !
Arnaud.
Hi Arnaud,
I too have problems - see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=61594
Paul
Im also having problems with carkit.
Jasjam and kjam just dont connect with my carkit (while they pair with it) but Jasjam and all nokia / samsung phones work perfectly well with it. Even Palm treo 650 works.
Is this a problem with iMate sets or with Windows Mobile 5.0?
I've had a friend who also has a TyTN which we tried in my kit and it didn't work. It seems that users with other variants (e.g. Orange) don't have this issue?
Further (non-technical) tests have shown that if you answer or make a call, you can get the audio by going into the call menu and choosing "Turn handsfree off". My uneducated guess here is that there is some issue with the headset feature on the TyTN and by doing this, it resets the headset profile and bingo!
It is a pain in the ar$e doing this for inbound calls, but for outbound it is manageable - you simply dial the number and whilst it is connecting, do the menu->Turn handsfree off workaround. Hopefully the new ROM will fix it - when it arrives!!
Hi All,
Just to put in my experience.
I have an Audi A4 with a Gen II car kit. As there is no handset holder for the TyTn I am using the Bluetooth function.
I have the Orange SPV M3100 variant, which works absolutley fine with the Audi Bluetooth, with one problem....
As I don't yet have a car charger, when the phone goes into sleep mode, it appears to disable bluetooh (I occasionally get a 'BT OFF' signal on the car display). Switching off bluetooth, then switching on again on the phone tends to kick it back into life where it stays live for another ten minutes or so until the phone dozes off again..
I have heard of a few people who have also diagnosed the problem as possbily the phone going to sleep to conserve battery, and solved the problem with an in car charger. I will report back when I have a charger.
Again, I do not suspect the Audi car kit as I have previoulsy used this (on Bluetooth) with a Nokia 6230 and MDA Vario, with no problems at all (the Vario was externally powered from the car).
Maybe you TyTn owners can flash to the Orange ROM ;-)
Same Scenario Different Cast
I have a Lexus GS with BT.... here's my Undesired results
actually, the only Problem i am having is very annoying.
If i receive or make a call after i pair with the Car kit, EVERY Thing is fine,
The sound quality is good, the response time is good (no Delay).
BUT after that call is ended, the BT itself on the jasjam TURNS off...
so i have to turn the BT on After EVERY Single Call (either made or received)
Is this Normal, I don't think so, but i had to ask
I have the Original Ship ROM Arabic version
My BMW handsfree works just fine with my TyTN. No issues other than an occasional BT off (loss of pairing). Interestingly, it's not sleep mode related since it usually works just fine in that mode. Generally, disabling Bt then re-enabling it re-establishes the connection then all is well. I have no issues making or receiving calls.
No doubt CarKit issues will be addressed when HTC releases their ROM update. Recent information tells me that this update is pretty much guaranteed to be an AKU3.0 variant. There's a tremendous amount of BT stack improvements in this AKU that should improve this as well as A2DP bluetooth issues.
.. No issues other than an occasional BT off (loss of pairing). ..
Interesting! I have the same issue with MTeoR.. I wonder if MteoR and TyTn are based on the same HTC device PLATFORM.
Updated my Parrot CK3100 to the newest version and things still don't work too well. When I start a call on the Parrot it takes around 20 seconds to start dialing on the phone, and when I receive a call I have to pick it up, place it on hold, and retrieve from hold to be able to hear the other side.
I wonder what/why they changed in the Bluetooth stack, it worked perfectly on my Wizard...
Renault Laguna II integrated BT kit
Works OK with my Laguna system except for the signal strength indicator. It appears that this information is not sent or translated onto the screen in the car.... Calls are fine though, and I noticed that the car rings immediately, the moment the phone does. Could be because the TyTN has the "turbo lag" explained in another thread tho
Cheers

Try installing Jetware mobile extender, that adds signal and battery bars as well as network name.
I enabled Remote SIM Acces in the Bluetooth Menu and now my contacts sync on my Audi Bluetooth Car kit with WM 6.1.

Bluetooth disconnecting during call

Wondering if anyone has had this problem. I haven't pinned a time down yet. I use a motorola car kit. It will disconnect and end the call for no reason. Is there a timer to auto disconnect in the bluetooth stack? Any help is appreciated.
approx 4minutes or less
I was having a problem w/mda and bluetooth and sometimes without bluetooth, in that the entire network would just drop when the call gets close to 4 minutes.... I called tmo about it and they simply gave up and said maybe its the phone...so they sent me a replacement mda, used it today during one call and couldn't believe that the call lasted longer than an hour...
Mine is only with bluetooth. I guess a little more info is needed. If I hit the voice dial button on my car kit I get the voice command tone. I have also used bluetooth to play music over the car kit with the voice command controls(just for fun, horrible quality). It will disconnect while it's playing music no call involved. I have a feeling it's the bluetooth connection timing out but I'm not sure. It's frustrating.
so its not happening during phone calls???
see there might be a bluetooth timeout that tmo doesn't know about...I have to use bluetooth and it seems like every 4min or less it blanks out everything and sometimes I even have to re pair the two devices.... I would try making calls and using the bluetooth w/o car kit...mine did some of the samethings like streaming music thru bt headseat and it would blankout with that also even when not on a call..
Car Kit Not Staying Paired???
I guess I wasn't clear. It happens in both situations. I think i have to re-pair after as well. As far as I know it doesn't stay paired. When a call comes in I usually have to wait about 2 rings before it rings through the car kit. Also when I make a call by hitting the voice dial button on the car kit the blue light blinks for about 2 seconds then I get the voice command sound. I assume that the blinking is it re-pairing. I guess I need info on how to keep it paired.
Anyone? I have found that time dosen't seem to be a issue as it has done it a 1min 43 seconds and 2 mins 38 seconds.

Try turning on the bluetooth first while your phone is off. Once the bluetooth is on, then turn on your cell phone. I tried many times in frustration why it is saying "phone is disconnected" looking for problems. Then it works now and even the phone book in my Nokia and Garmin GPS. Hope it helps you too.
Turn on bluetooth device first while the cell phone is off. Once bluetooth is on, then turn on the latter. Hope it works. Do it everytime you use bluetooth device in your car.

bluetooth - GPS & Headset?

Is it possible to use both a BT GPS receiver and a BT Heatset or other BT handsfree at the same time? I'd like to use TomTom while driving and be able to receive calls.
Yeah, they can both be used at the same time

Sweet thanks . . .
They do work, but I remember that when Hermes was in sleep with TT run in background, after starting TT it couldn't find the receiver. I had to switch the BT off and on.

Good to know but I intend to hardwire everything . . . they will both be permanently on. I spend way too many hours in the car to run off of batteries.
i use my 8525 with a Globalsat BT-359 and my Jabra BT620s or my Jabra X10 with out any problems...
i use the oncourse2 powered windshield mount.... and the only 2 ways i can use my phone as a phone are either speaker phone or BT headset and i definately prefer BT headset.
I can say that the oncourse2 is a nice sturdy holder that does well at charging both the device and the GPS.....
it does have some noise interference with data from the phone (slightly annoying) and can take a sec or 2 to get the USB power to slide in correctly.... but it is defeinatly sturdy and does not bounce around at all..
I love using it in landscape mode with Destinator 7 or WMP
I even use it sometimes to play sportscenter (streaming from my PC at home via ORB) but shhh!!!
BT is amazing and half of what i do with my phone would not be possible w/o it...
