O2 mini won't play a sound when receiving an SMS. - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi all
Can anyone help me here.....
When I get an SMS, the message pops up but no sound plays.
I have assigned "Alarm 1" to the "Messaging: new Text message" in settings, sounds & notifications. I have checked "play sound" and "display message on screen".
When I hit the play button in the sounds and notifications tab the alarm plays
Volume is set for the PDA
Thanks in advance

i need to know how to do this also

Figured this one out today!
Start - Settings - Sounds and Notification.
Select the "sounds" tab.
You must have the box next to "programs" checked and the box next to "Notifications (alarms, reminders)" as well.
If you didn't have this done, you may need to soft reset after doing it. Your master control for the PDA will also affect the sound level of your SMS message (not the phone volume).
good luck

Problem with message sound

I have a problem with the sound for when I get a new message. It just won't play. I go into Start>>Settings>>Sounds & Notifications on the Notification tab I scroll down to "Messaging: New text message" and choose some sound... When I press play nothing happens, and neither when I get a message.
Has anyone had this problem or has anyone got any ideas of how to fix it?
Best regards - Oskar
I suggest you do a hard-rest after a fully backup...
It's ok now, I found what was wrong...
I had unchecked the box that says: "Enable sounds for Programs -> Notifications"
My bad, thanks for the tip though.

My Reminders don't vibrate or chime like they used to

Hi Everyone,
I've checked that my sound/volume is okay. I hear all of the stuff that I'm supposed to hear (phone/audio/system sounds). I went into System/Sounds and made sure that a sound was selected (and tested) for playing and Vibrate was turned on for Reminders. But when I set an appointment on the Calendar and tell it to remind me N minutes in advance, I see the PDA's LCD wake up but hear no sound and get no vibration. I've done several soft Resets. What am I missing?
Thanks.
Presumably, your volume is turned up and you get ringtones and vibrations for text messages and/or phone calls? Also when you went to System-> Sounds & Notifications the boxes labeled "Programs" and "Notifications" are both checked on the Sounds tab and in the Notifications tab you chose Reminders from the dropdown box, checked "Play Sound" (and "Repeat"?), "Display Message on screen", and "Vibrate"?
chime issue
Yes to everything except Repeat. But I tested that, too.
You could try either doing a hard reset or reflashing to an OEM ROM.

New message notification - additional window

Hi,
when I receive new sms, it appears in tab at the bottom. That's OK. But it appears also in small window, which pops up when new message received. I have to click Menu and Dismiss (lower right corner) to get rid of it. Please, help me, how to get rid of this small window showing up permanently.
Thanx
Labus
Go to Settings - Sounds & Notifications - Notifications - Message: new message, uncheck display message on screen.
It is unchecked. Maybe this option is ignored, because I am using RingTone manager to set up ring tone for new message notify.

TMO HD2 SMS Popup missing

So I did the "upgrade" that TMO put out on their website for the HD2 and now I do not get the popup message window when a new text comes in. Before the upgrade it my phone was dormant and I had a new text message the display would come to life and a box would display at the bottom of the screen with a preview of the message (in addition to the normal audible notification). Now the display comes on and the audible notification occurs but there is not popup box anymore. Any thoughts?

Go to settings...sounds and notifications....notifications..go to text message and put a check in display message on screen
Thank you for the reply zelendel. My menus do not have that exact string. If I go to Settings I have a Sounds & Display option, which has the following options - Profiles, Volume, Ring and Notifications, Display and G-Sensor. The only place in these menus that I can alter the text message is teh sound that plays. I do not see a checkbox.

Ok sounds like those are the manila style settings. In the settings there may be a softkey marked all settings and that should take you to the WM settings. if not then disable sense and then goint settings and that should give you the WM settings as well.

Wrong "settings" area. When you're on the settings tab there, click "menu" in the bottom right, then "all settings", then "sounds and notifications" On the 2nd tab ("notifications"), pick "Message: New message" from the first drop-down, then you'll see the check box you need.
Thank you Phunk! That was what I was missing!!!

No prob...it was the same place zelendel was referring to, but HTC did nobody a favor when they created a 2nd distinct set of "settings" and kept the name the same
Yeah sorry I disabled the manila settings thing long ago and forgot about it.
Issue resolved.

[Q] disable sms notification but keep sound

is there a way to do this? i want to hear a beep/vibrate but i don't want any notification window. is it really that hard to customize without downloading handcent or another sms app?
In Messages app, go to the "All messages" screen, press <-- (back arrow) button if neccessary. Press "Menu" button, tap "Settings", look for "Received notification", make sure this is unchecked. Below it is "Play notification sound". make sure this is checked.
I did that, and it shows sound/vibrate checked however it greys it out when i uncheck notifications. it is silent when i do this.
