Backups from IIs to mini... having problems... - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi everyone,
I just switched from a IIs to a mini. Did my backups onto my SDCard from the IIs. However when I tried to restore from the IIs to my mini, it failed. The whole unit just hanged...
Anyone tried this? or has a suggestion how to restore from a IIs backup? All my contacts are in the IIs backup  If cannot restore then I am in deep trouble

WOW...think you are stuck. You are suppost to just create a new partnership from activesync from your desktop comptuer and outlook.
Guess if you don't have any of your contacts on your desktop/outlook then your only option would be to get hold of a XDA IIs again, restore, sync to the desktop and then sync to the Mini
You can't restore from a backup, different device.

If you can't restore back to your IIs then check out this post:

Thanks for the help! It works perfectly!

PPC2003 & restore PPC 2002 data

I have upgaraded mt xda to 2003, But I need to know how I can restore my 2002 data (i.e. contacts, calandar, notes, etc).
Any help is greatly appreciated.
All of your data should still be in Outlook on your desktop . ActiveSynch should dump it back onto youe xda...
Thanks for the reply.
Do I need to create a new partnership with my sync PC?
How about the installed applications, do I have to install them again?
You will have to reinstall your applications but that is easy from active sync.
You will need to delete the existing partnership and then create a new one unless you want to change the name of the partnership.

Active Sync Problem

I had a crash on my MDA II so I had to make a reset. After the boot process and installing all the standard programs I connected it with my PC. But I was not able to use an old partnership.
So I have to configure it all again
How can I use the old partnership that I must not reconfigure my MDA II?
PS: Yeah I forgot to make a backup
why do you need to use the old patnership?
Sorry I totally forgot my post here. Very stressful last week.
I thought with the old partnership all programms will be installed automatically.
And is it possibly to make kind of a backup with active sync to restore everything with syncing after a crash?
if you have set activesync to backup
and you hardreset
and connect the device to the pc
and pick guest
and pick restore from <insert old patnership name here>
your device will get restore it settings and programs
thx i will try that

Backup Exec

Am using activesync 4 and when I connect my exec there is no facility to backup/restore under the tools menu.
I tried connecting my xda 2 and it gives me the backup/restore facility.
Any ideas..........................

There is no backup/restore facility in WM5
Jasjar Backup
Yes
You can backup all you contacts, calendar copping the ”pin.vol” file in the /My Device to a storage card.
Copping back when you need.

i use the sunnysoft backup manager 3.5.
it works with the wm5 and have no problems with restoring.

What happened to backup

Is it just me, or does 2005 not let you backup your device? With 2003, there was an option in activesync to back up your device... which dissapears when I hook up my Prophet?!?
Yes,that's because WM5 has permanent storage,M$ tought Backup is not need anymore! Try using different Sync Program

No Backup with Activesync?

Hi all. I've installed Activesync 4.2.0 and managed to connect my P3600 to it succesfully. The strange thing is, that there's no "backup/restore" option visible in Activesync to backup my PDA. This was working fine with my previous XDAIIi. Anyone know why this would be? Is is a P3600 specific problem?
Thanks for any info!
Lee.
I think they (Micro$haft) removed it in later versions of ActiveSync
Not available for anything later than PPC 2003
Just found in the help that although the backup feature is still there, it will only backup PPC2003 or earlier devices. Windows Mobile 2005 does not allow backups. How bizarre! Anyone know of a decent backup-to-PC utility out there?
Lee.
I use SPB Backup and there is also Sprite backup. These are probably the 2 best backup programs out there.
.... and does anyone know of any free backup utils out there
