I have upgaraded mt xda to 2003, But I need to know how I can restore my 2002 data (i.e. contacts, calandar, notes, etc).
Any help is greatly appreciated.
All of your data should still be in Outlook on your desktop . ActiveSynch should dump it back onto youe xda...
Thanks for the reply.
Do I need to create a new partnership with my sync PC?
How about the installed applications, do I have to install them again?
You will have to reinstall your applications but that is easy from active sync.
You will need to delete the existing partnership and then create a new one unless you want to change the name of the partnership.

I had a crash on my MDA II so I had to make a reset. After the boot process and installing all the standard programs I connected it with my PC. But I was not able to use an old partnership.
So I have to configure it all again
How can I use the old partnership that I must not reconfigure my MDA II?
PS: Yeah I forgot to make a backup
why do you need to use the old patnership?
Sorry I totally forgot my post here. Very stressful last week.
I thought with the old partnership all programms will be installed automatically.
And is it possibly to make kind of a backup with active sync to restore everything with syncing after a crash?
if you have set activesync to backup
and you hardreset
and connect the device to the pc
and pick guest
and pick restore from <insert old patnership name here>
your device will get restore it settings and programs
thx i will try that
Hi All,
Good Evening.
Do you guys know how can I restore Activesync on my Universal. I accidentally deleted the Activesync icon on the programs using total commander. Now it doesn't sync up anymore with my PC.
Is there any registry setting in the Universal that I can clean up or files that I can delete in order to install a new copy of activesync.
Or any steps that I need to follow to get it synched up again.
Please help.
I ended up using the clear storage button in the programs. Now it is in sync all I have to do is re-install the other softwares that I previously have.
I need a little help.
After a crash I hardresetted my Hermes and then used SK Tools to return to a backup point. But now when I try to activesync I get a message on my PC saying that the mobile device has already synced with another PC and it requests a new name for this PC.
I haven't synced with another PC. What should I do ?
When I restore from a hard reset, I normally delete the existing activesync partnership and set this up again with the restored device. Did you delete that partnership?
how can I delete existing partnership ?
In activesync on the pc just go File->Delete Mobile Device.
At least that's how I do it
This is the other way.
I need to delete it from WM5 device.
I guess I found it. I enter Activesync software on PPC and delete the relationship there...
Hi,
I've got a new PC and need to transfer all my contacts from the handset on to the PC. I've got rid of the old PC and of course didnt extract the contacts file first....
There must be a way of doing it as all the data is on the handset right?
I've sync'd them both up but the data doesnt come across and I dont know how to force it.
I'm a little scared now as if the handset goes down I will have lost everything!
Please help (ASAP!)
Thanks
When you create a new partnership, and the PC version of Outlook is empty, but the PPC has data, ActiveSync should copy the data from the PPC back to the PC. If you get the Conflict Wizard, elect to Merge Data. Do NOT 'Replace Items on My Device' or you will lose everything.
To safeguard your data, copy the file called pim.vol (in the root of My Device on the PPC) to a safe place before doing anything else- at least if the sync goes tits-up, you can restore what you had!
1st thing to try is just to reconnect and let A/S run (I assume you've tried that?)
Next, is to delete the A/S partnership on the PC (Menu/Remove Partnership), the reconnect the PPC and go through the New Partnership ritual again, and see if it works this time.
If that fails, it may be time to remove the Outlook data file. Its called Outlook.pst and usually resides in a hidden folder in your 'User' folder (/local settings/application data/miscrosoft/outlook). Restart the PC, then reopen Outlook, and it should ask you if you want to create a new Outlook file (or it may do it automatically- long time since I've done it, so memory a bit hazy!)
Now either make a new Partnership, or rerun A/S and see if that works.
Hello, i have one question:
will outlook data (contacts, appointments..) get lost when i flash my artemis?
The problem is, that i sync with two computers (home, office), and when the data get lost from pda, on sync they will get erased on both pc.
If you flash a new ROM to your Artemis, Outlook Data WILL get lost, yes. It's practically the same effect as with a hard reset. I recommend using SPB Backup to create a full Backup of your appointments, contacts etc. which you can reapply after the flashing and before syncing with your computers.
But besides that, it never happened to me, that syncing with an empty device erased data on the computer, but the data on the computer was transferred to the mobile device.
Anyhow, create a backup of your PIM Data and you should be safe
Edit: There is also an Option for Active Sync / Mobile Device Center that Data on the Host Computer NEVER gets overwritten. So if you check this option, this will not happen, no matter what data is on your pocket PC

Click to collapse
u can manipulate the settings somehow to make it read-only or write-only so it will not erase
i dont know if i am able to explain this well or no but you can make it go to active sync in your pc
open tools
open options
and you will hopefully understand what i am saying i will try to look for a way to explain this on the web and i will post it laters
pim backup is great especially if u use pimbackup 2.7 but still when you connect active sync you will face a problem that the name of the device will be different and data may corrupt
