Hi, does anybody know how to configure the IMAP settings on the XDAII to enable me to use 'SMTP user Authentication' when sending mail. The account setting shows the tick box 'SMTP Requires Authentication' but no further settings to put in user name and password etc... Please help if you can.. Thanks

Hi guys,
Im having a frustrating time trying to get my outlook to send email. I can receive just fine.
Just a note, my computer sends/receives fine and i use the same settings on computer and phone. I never user activsync because ive never been able to get the linux version to work for me.
My server requires authentication however i get this error when i try to send: "The message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage
and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again."
If i uncheck the option for authentication, the email bounces as it should saying relay is not allowed.
Im using the same settings as my computer, but I just dont see whats wrong. Im a linux user and built my webserver so i feel like i should be able to figure this out which leads me to thing outlook sucks lol
Any suggestions to try?
James
In 'Edit Server Settings' where it has your User name, Password, and Domain how do you have that set up? when i first did mine i set it up with all three, but it didn't work, and what worked for me was setting the username to be [email protected] leaving the Domain field blank -- so that is something to look into, and if it is different maybe try setting it up the other way just putting your email as the username and the domain in the domain field.
How do i find 'Edit Server Settings'?
In my inbox, i click the Menu button bottom right, click tools and options. then i click on the email account i created, which sends me through all the email settings in the following order.
Note: i never used Outlook email as it never let me specify pop or imap so i added New Account.
Email address -- [email protected]
Your name - james
Account display name -- greyed out
incoming server name lwp.ca
account type -- greyed out (its set to imap)
username -- [email protected]
password
outgoing smtp server: lwp.ca
requires authentication checked
use same user name and password for sending mails checked
Automatic send/receive -- set to manual
download messages set to from the past 30 days
message format : html
message download limit: headers only
download attachments: do not download
I am having the same problem with Alltel PPC6800 and I found out (by tethering with my PC) that some of their IP addresses are listed with Spamhaus.
If I keep trying it will eventually go through when the IP Address switches to one not listed.
Hope it helps?

Does anyone have suggestions for a free mail client that uses IMAP? If only thunderbird could be used

sorry when you said you use outlook to send i assumed you were using an exchange server -- since you are using IMAP what i said is irrelevant.
When you are at the point where it asks for the outgoing SMTP server, there is a link to 'Advanced Server Settings' at the bottom of the screen. clicking on that will allow you to require SSL for incoming and outgoing -- that would be my only other guess.
but i do find it strange that your incoming and outgoing mail servers are the same and not IMAP.lwp.com and SMTP.lwp.com or something similar.

Double post... Sorry!
From my auto settings yahoo -
Incoming mail server : imap.mail.yahoo.com
Type: IMAP4
Outgoing : smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
*Tick both boxed on the pade the outgoing authentication and use same user name and password
Advanded server settings : both boxes unticked and from list 'The Internet'
i'm not sure why yours isn't getting it automatically, but what you would do is just go to email and then click add new account and when it asks for email address just put in the full email and it should get the settings automatically... mine even does comcast.net easily and i use winmo 6.0 pro

I can't seem to get my yahoo email accounts to work when I try to set them up on the email app. Any idea what can be wrong or what I can do?
I had this problem as well, it wouldn't automatically set up so I put in the mail servers manually. To do so type in your email and password then select manual setup. Choose IMAP as the option after that and then set the incoming mail server to imap.mail.yahoo.com and then select next and then set the outgoing mail server to smtp.mail.yahoo.com and then select next then go through the rest of the set up and you should be good, worked for me.
Still can't get it to work keeps telling me my password or username is incorrect.
Are you sure that you have switched off any wifi connection on the phone? It will not connect over wifi but over your phone 3g/g connection.

Please dont title your subjects with "please help", that should be part of your post not juts used as title, titles should be descriptive of subject as per rules. For example it should be "Problem with email and data/wifi connection" or something along those lines.
Haven't you considered moving over to Android? Much better OS for user friendliness.
Go to the Mail Tab -> Inbox -> Menu -> Tools -> Options
Select your account
Select: Edit Account Setup -> Next -> Next -> Next -> Next -> Advanced Server Settings. Set the Network Connection to The Internet.
This means that if your phone is connected to the internet by WiFi then it will use that method. If it is not, then it will start up the phone networks data connection.
As a side note, are you using Hotmail as an exchange account?
Set up a new account, select Outlook. Enter email address and password. Select Manual Setup.
User name: full email address
Domain: \
Server Address: m.hotmail.com
