Hi there scoty5253, sorry if I makethis sound obvious, or if i'm wrong  to change to the wap setting all you do under my xda>connections>gsm>finish. the xda will soft reset and you should be set to go, as per changing the post and pre pay, can't help, sorry.
PS, my country is set to Germany ( i'm in the uk ) doesn't make a difference in that respect, leave it set to Germany, if it is. ( thanks for the tip DCS 8) )

How and with what are you trying to access the web ? via the start menu or from the splash screen ?
I think if its the former then you need to get some settings sorted out, I used to have trouble with doing it that way so now I just use the o2 portal and link from my favourites menu.
I'm not all that clued up so I may be mistaken, I'm sure somebody else can steer you through it if I'm wrong.

Hi,
I just unlocked my XDA II and I'm using a Vodafone SIM in it. How do I utilize GPRS, WAP and Modem connectivity with this SIM? Is it possible to get rid of all the O2 crap installed on it, i.e. "clean" it up properly?
A new skin would be cool!
Cheers,

http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewforum.php?f=11
you are by no means the first who ask this question
And what's the answer? Is it possible at all?
--
Thomas
yes it possible the xda is not limited to o2 in anyway
you just have to set it up
to do this you need to know the connection point your provider use for mms, grps and wap (if you also want that)
there are many posts which explane how you set it up in the network forum
but if you cant find any i could explane it step by step i suppose
i dont know much about o2's settings but if it's today stuff you can turn it off under today in settings
otherwise you can always make your own rom at www.yorth.net and get a more pure non o2 custom rom
you can get tons of skins as in today skins on many sites
and at yorth.net you can also get phone skins or have explaned how to make them yourself
Works fine now, thanks. Vodafone's acces point is named 'internet' (which was easy to read off the SIM), and the user/passwd is web/web (had to call them up to get that). So GPRS works fine. Needs some more info to set a Modem connection, but it shouldn't be hard.
The reason for my original posting, was that I was lead to believe that O2 had "locked" the device, which is not the case at all.
Anyway, thanks for info. Btw, the link you mention does not work...
Cheers,

Ttm, I'm confused. I am in the same situation as you (xda II with vodafone sim), yet i cannot connect GPRS using your settings. The settings I connect with are APN: pp.vodafone.co.uk with the same user/password as you. This connects fine yet i cannot send or receive emails.
Am i doing something wrong? have i missed something in the setup? what do you reckon? :?:
cheers, coj
well one thing is to be able send mails and another is to get mail working
can you get IE working ?
Yes, IE is working fine and dandy
then i doubt it's a grps issue
if you put in all the mail settings like
pop3 and smpt if you used those protocols
and it still dont work with your type of mail protocol
then i would contact the phone company to see if they rout
your type of mails
Would anyone be able to take the time to post here in detail the settings for O2 MMS in Ireland on a contract bill plan?
I was on to o2 support but it didn't work and got the impression the staff wasn't really up to 100% on the XDA - probably more used to regular cellphones.
I'd appreciate the help from someone with a working mms service on o2 contract.
Many thanks to all
Conor
you could try the o2 website,
there is a section in mms area (get the settings), which allows you to send yourself the appropriate settings via sms.
try it anyway and let us know how u get on.
I'm in the north so the settings may not be applicable for your region.
good luck anyway.
Thanks but no settings there
Cheers, but they only allow you to send the settings and install them automatically by sms. There's no option to send to an XDA - just Nokia etc...
Can someone just copy them down here from their o2 monthly contract XDA?
Thanks again
Conor
ok conor,
we'll give it a go then, what details do you need and I'lli try to supply them.
MMS blues...
Thanks David!
I'm not sure if N. Ireland settings are the same for Galway but sure, let's see!
For a start, does it connect via MMS Network, or GPRS or My ISP, or The Internet etc.?
I can't send at all. But I do receive notifications of a new mms and who it's from, but when I tap download it tries to download but gets stuck there forever without succeeding. Here's what I got from o2 support but it doesn't work.
Connect to server O2IE (the server name)
Gateway - 192.168.090.074
Server address http://mmsc.mms.o2.ie:8002 (I think!)
Thanks again!
Conor

MMS O2 Ireland
Hi Dan
Thanks for that - but I doubt the uk settings would work in Ireland.
O2 here tried to help so I guess I'm registered for these services.
GPRS works fine the prob is just MMS
Thanks again though!
If any Irish o2 pay monthly users could copy down their settings it might help.
Best regards to all
Conor
Conor,
sorry this took so long, got kinda busy elsewere.
have just looked and the connection was set on My Work Network,
I thought it was/should be, via the MMS network.
will have to try and see if it is still working.
the rest of the settings you gave matched mine except for the .ie replacing the .uk, and different gateway no's, this again could be a UK thing.
If I remember correctly I had some serious trouble at the beginning, I think it was something to do with the Rom version, when I upgraded it from 1.60, the MMS service started to function perfectly.
Rom?
Hi
My ROM is 1.60.00WWE
do you know if I'm up to date?
Cheers!
Conor
Hi Conor,
If you unlock your extended rom, there will be a couple of files relating to O2 customisation. It's made easier by using the horrible Active Today settings which can custimise your device for use in Ireland. I'm sure the settings are also made for the mms program. (sorry, I don't use it myself!)
As for the rom version, I think the lastest O2 rom is 1.66 which is available from their site, you could also go to version 1.72 which is available from this site. I'm at 1.72 and think it's fine.
Cheerio
Howard
Thanks Howard, David and all!
I'll try upgrading the RoM
very grateful indeed
Conor
Hi guys, I am sorry for posting this request but I have been looking for some time for it with little success...I need to find the file that updates/installs the GPRS settings for 02 for my XDA 2i. I've done a hard reset and went for corporate version which seems to work okish and I have no GPRS settings at all for some reason.
thanks
Yanni
ps. why don't people put the settings/files as sticky posts?

if you want it done automatically look in the EXT ROM and there's a cab file called "O2UK_Conection_Setting.sa.cab" (well there is on my XDAIIs ).
Or I can PM you it if you like - PM me if you do as I might not read this page for a while
Hiya guys.
I've tried adding these manual settings into my XDA 2, but I get the following error when I try to connect:
Dialed: mobile.o2.co.uk
No modem at above number. To check your connection settings, and change them if needed, tap Settings.
What do you guys suggest?
i think your settings are different to the xda2i
Yeah I'm using a bog-standard XDA 2.
Can someone point me in the right direction for the normal xda2 settings?
why not try phoning o2 maybe they can help ,it will take about an hour but they will see the light

First off hi all, been a background reader for a week or so now,
My XDA Exec has now landed and wondered if a nice soul could help a guy out.
Although i'm pc savvy phones are not my forte, i cannot seem to find in the manual info on how to access the internet via 3g ie when im in the boozer and not on my lan at home.
Can someone point in the right direction, do i need to set it up via new isp, 3g provider?? if so what are the settings for O2 uk
Many thanks
Hi,
I take it you have a 3g SIM from O2? If you have, you can get their setup settings from the O2 website and once those are in your Exec whenever you launch an app that needs internet access it "should" automaticly try and connect via 3g.
Cheers buddy will have a look
alternatively there is a link somewhere on the forum (try searching for O2 settings) that lets you download a cab with the settings and you just run the cab. it may look like its going to install o2 active, but it doesnt. Just choose Personal and it will install the connection settings

If you let the device starup as normal, with all O2 skins and customisation, then everything will be put in for you.
As it says in the manual....

Well I've done both settings completely. I still have problems though. I tried to open an internet page and it srill keeps saying open. The phone doesn't freeze or anything it just keeps saying opening. And when I tried erecieving apicture message it just says Downlaoding:0%. And I also can't sen. I noticed those are for the mda also and they aren't exactly the same with connections. Might that be the problem?

Yeah, but I can't help; I've NEVER been able to get MMS working on my i-mate Jasjar (WM5), despite coaching from T-Mobile and following all the links here. It connects via GPRS to T-Mobile, but it won't send or receive an MMS! Sorry. Cheers,

I'm using T-Mobile. Although in the Netherlands.
I had to use "internet" as the accesspoint name (step 9 in that data account step by step instruction), but I guess that's just different for the US. I also had to use CHAP authentication in the GPRS settings instead of PAP.
BTW I saw another step by step and this seems to be for internet connections rather than wap connections:
Use Your Phone As A Modem
Tap Start.
Tap Settings.
Tap on the Connections tab.
Tap the Connections icon.
Tap Add a new modem connection under T-Mobile GPRS.
Enter T-MobileInternet in the Enter a name for the connection field.
Tap to select Cellular Line (GPRS) from the Select a modem drop down list.
Tap Next.
Enter internet2.voicestream.com in the Access point name field.
Tap Next.
Tap Finish.
The new Internet profile is now configured and ready for use.
SOLVED! With screenshots!
I said above I couldn't help, but in the meantime, I've solved my own problems and posted the screenshots and procedures, which I hope might help you. Here's the solution with screenshots!
Basically: first, revise the T-Mobile USA procedures to eliminate any leading zeroes in IP addresses (e.g. change "...050..." to "...50..."), and second, after making your changes, be sure to power off the device (briefly press the power button and release), and then repower it. Hope this helps! Cheers,
