Jk published in his weblog an article about the problem that maybe the new Windows Media Player 10 and the new "playsforsure" Features will never be available for actual Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket-PCs... thats a thing i am also worried about these days - because why the hell did i spent more than €600 for a device, with more than adequate memory capacity for all types of media, when it does not integrate in the existing "Media-World" that is drawn by available and upcoming Microsoft Products. Well have a look at the portable MediaCenter Devices... neat and really cool gadgets - a must have - you can sync them with your home pc´s - can have the movies from your home´s MediaCenter on your portable MediaCenter, you can buy content from Microsoft Content-providing Partners... okay thats cool isn´t it. - But infact - i got that nifty "all-in-one device suitable for every purpose" called Pocket PC.... - Iam watching high-quality-mpeg4 movies on my PocketPCs for months... i listen to my mp3´s, ogg´s, aac´s and whatsoever... but those cool integration-feeling doesn´t come up with my PocketPC... and the Windows Media Player 10 for Windows Mobile would help that a bit - but what would sort things out: to have the same integration and Features that are available for other, compared to the Pocket PC dumb, devices....
And thats why I started the "MTP-over-IP" Project. Because MTP ist the Protocol all this cool devices use to communicate with the Applications... (there are some more like auto-discovery and so on...but first things first)... a working Implementation of MTP would make it possible that the Windows Media Player 10 on the PC could recognize the Pocket PC as a Media Device, as a Smart Device that it is...
So. Due to quite heavy workload I have the moment I cannot do such a project alone - so I would like to ask everyone that is interested and capable of helping me with this project in doing so.
At the moment the first lines of code are already written - i started the MTP Library in C# based on the .NET Framework at the Moment - the Goal is to get the MTP Protocol working, on the .NET Framework and on the .NET Compact Framework...
I published the first lines of code some days ago... you can grab it here(sorry that the blog-article is mainly in german...)
a "playsforsure"-Teaser for Windows Mobile 2003 can be viewed here.
So.. give me a line if you would like to help or you just have an oppinion about the subject.

Hey there, now that I've got my shiney new XDA Exec, with its VGA Screen and inbuilt Wi-fi I want to have a play with the Terminal Services Client to control my PC...I'm pretty sure that's what it can be used for right?
Well anyway from what I've read TSC can connect to (among other things) Win XP Pro computers with remote desktop enabled...however my computer only has XP Home so I can't do this, so can anyone recommend an alternative (possibly better?) program that I can use to control my XP Home PC using my XDA Exec....
cheers!
VNC (free)
GoToMyPC (not free)
There is more information in the "terminal services full screen" thread in this forum.
I have been using GoToMyPC for a long time. It's a subscription-based service. But I am happy with it. Very stable and functional. And full-screen.
prob with those apps is, terminal services connects to all modern windows operating systems and no extra software is needed, im not running round the country installing vnc onto everything, if its already got RDC/Terminal Services intergrated. On my work network i have access to 36k+ machines, yer 36,000 machines. all 2000,XP,2003, the other 30k machines are still NT or 98, upgrades aint a overnight thing!!!
so you see, not an option im afraid
*edit* what really grinds me is that i would have thought it was obvious to M$ that fullscreen should be an option, but as with the diabolical MSNM, the most obvious upgrades never appear, surlly in that groups aint a hard thing to do. and turn the bloody beeping off when ppl sign in.
Obvious things strategicly lost??
use www.logmein.com man its freakin great and you can use for free
if you put your device in landscape it is a clean view too
z2remote2pc works a little better than logmein, I think. A little more control of the desktop with z2. LogMeIn is nice though.
but do these apps use the RDC protocol ? i cannot amend 30k+ machines just to do remote desktop, it has to be compatible else its pretty useless to me soz
Carnivor, I presume your request is satisfied?
Why on earth 30,000 machines? Heyzus!
What PDA are you using?
V
30k machines is roughly the number of client machines the company i work for has. i have access to them all via TS, not that i need them all, i mainly access a handful of desktops that are mine, and the clients servers.
its quite handy to be able to wifi my desktop in the room next door when im standing at a rack in the server room as there is nothing but racks in there and an additional desktop in there would get easilly spotted.
im on a Jasjar btw, happy to test your app wink wink**
and i have VS 2005, is it poss for a 2003 project to be loaded into VS 2005 and compiled??? if you aint got it yet its a possibility
ps, ohh yes, im satisified, its what should have been done on theyre attempt ( M$ )
Carnivor - I have Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2. I'm waiting on RC1 because the tools I use in Beta 2 don't work properly on the WM5 emulator. As soon as I get a new version of VS2005, I'll sort through the WM5 issues and bang out a preliminary version for you guys to try.
The current version should still work nicely even on Wm5, but only in Portrait QVGA. However, a full landscape VGA version should follow soonish.
If you've got a spare VGA PDA, send it my way! I'm desperate

Hi, I recently bought a Wizard and I was wondering if Media Center inspired (eighter xp or vista) Interface was ever made fo Windows Mobile. I saw a portable media center, and although the device wasn't great, I liked the resemblance to the actual computer interface. Those things were running on Windows CE too right? And what about the Zune interface? Has it ever been attempted?
I thank everyone willing to help
Thanx LucaS

I ran across this...have not installed it so don't know anything about it, might be what you are looking for?

Vista SideShow would be nice
What I am REALLY interested in is Vista SideShow running on windows mobile... M$ has such a huge opportunity here with SideShow, and they are not capitalizing on it. If someone were to release a SideShow driver that works on windows mobile, I would immediately pay $50 for it. Imagine being able to access Vista gadgets and Media center info through a pretty interface right on your phone! I'm getting all excited
Over the net is floating video of software which allows you tu run vista sidebar gadgets, but it never left microsoft labs (the video was with WM5 device), about sideshow i think microsoft will provide proper solution but you have to wait
Thanx
Thanks a lot anothersmith! That's actually the sort of thing I was looking...i just wish the interface was a little better looking ... I guess there will be improved versions in the future...but still, thank you so much for the help!
Anyone installed this (http://www.pocketpt.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=15512)? is it any good and does it let you watch tv?
you can whatch it only over internet, so it depends on your speed
Hi everyone, 1st post on this forum so please be gentle.
I've recently upgraded to an X1 from a nokia n95.
One of the things i that i used to be able to do with my n95 was browse my photos and music files that i had stored on the phone using my playstation 3 or my laptop over a wi-fi connection.
Havn't found an obvoius way to do this yet on the X1.
Is there an app or something in the settings that i can change so that i can do this on my x1 or isn't this possible?
anyone .
please.
Don't you simply see all content of your X1 in your WIN Explorer like attached?
Certainly you would have needed to set up the connection between your X1 and the PC, but I guess you'll anyway have done that for synchnonisation reasons?

Yes i can do this no problem when i plug the phone into the pc via a usb cable.
I just wanted to know if i could do this over wi-fi without having to use any cables at all. I could with my n95.
I had an N95 aswel and I have to say that I miss how easy I could make it share all media files through the home network. This had something to do with UPnP I remember. Any program which could make the xperia almost a media server?
Cheers
Hi!
Just found a UPnP Server (for Windows Mobile 5.0) at Microsoft. As my X1 has not arrived up to now, i cannot try it out. Seems to be a package with several server components. If UPnP Server works, loggin in to your WLAN access point should make the UPNP Server promote itself and the X1 data accessible inside the local net.
Overview
This package contain optional redistributable server components that you can incorporate into your own applications for the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform.
MSMQ - Contains the core MSMQ libraries and the MSMQ administration utilities visadm and msmqadm.
HTTPD - Contains the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) server.
PeerNet - Contains the Peer-to-Peer core library, the Peer Name Resolution Protocol (PNRP) Namespace Provider (NSP) and the Peer-to-Peer service.
UPnPCtrl - Contains the core UPnP control point libraries.
UPnPHost - Contains the core UPnP device host libraries.
For full documentation, please see: Windows Mobile Version 5.0 SDK - Optional Server Components in the MSDN Online Library.

Greetings from Vienna
Baxxx
It's a library. We need also a program that up a multimedial server.
I would love to see development on this front. I am trying out a HTC Touch HD coming from a N95 whihc is my main phone.
The media server ability of the N95 is extremely useful. I used to use to show pics on the PS3 wirelessly whenever i took snaps.
Much like wireless cameras with Upnp. Hopefully someone can make a solution. Its odd not having it.
the reason you could do that with your n95 was because it had dlna media server capabilities.. i kno the x1 was supposed to be able to do this initially but it got removed for some stupid reason..(it was in the original white paper)..i was really looking forward to this and was bummed when i got my phone and realized it was removed..so i doubt u will be able to do what your aiming at, your best bet would most likely be to map your public/shared folders to your phone so you could easily synchronise it

Ah thats nice too. Lets hope windows gets on the badnwagon. I have to say the Symbian phone functionally are great out of the box. I have to tinker alot with other devices including the Iphone(whihc doesnt do much...).
coming from wm6.1 and having the streak for one day..i feel really a bit disappointing.
the screen is great, it's fast but..the mean purpose of the streak is surfing and multimedia.
so after one day of testing.
stock 1.6..i don't think 2.1 is better.
-lost my streak icon in explorer..so no exchange of files possible..it there under usb in the manage pc tab..but i don't see it in explorer and others
only a icon showing up in the streak saying...scanning existing media files..and it stays there.
- no bluetooth connection possible to the pc..not recognized..all my other devices had no problem with it..nokia, htc etc
- no streaming possible..not recognizing the format (codec), so no orb stream, no tversity streams, no direkt stream from the server (only one or two formats).
really horrible.
- no wifi connection to pc, only to router. tried everything.
damn if i coult port wm6.1 to this device, it would be a super mini mobile computer.
some things could be done but it takes ages to find the right app for it.
the pc connection is the biggest problem for now, been seaching for 4 hours on differend forums and nope...no solution yet.
some idea's or solutions please
EDIT: found the solutions..thanks all..damn the big screen is incredible
Right - it may just be that your windows drivers aren't set up correctly. Did you install the dell suite?
If you are on 2.1 you need the upgraded suite from the dell site. Also you may need to muck around with the drivers
see parts 1 to 1.14 step 11 from

for a good explanation. Also make sure you have clicked on the status bar and selected the option to copy files to and from the computer otherwise the pc wont see the sd card.
Ad hoc networking only works on Steves 2.2 (froyo) build release 1. Which has the advantage of being a lot faster as well and it has flash.
AS for streaming media -I'm not sure what you need for that - I copy to SD card and watch using rockplayer, I have seen people discussing streaming and all I remember is that people were using mp4 files, but not which program they were using.
~I think you have to remember this is a new os to you so think how confusing windows was on the first day you tried it. Android becomes second nature after a few days.
Good luck - and stick with it, I'd never go back now...
i try
i can see my dell on the pc now..after 2 hours searching
i installed websharing so i could transfer files to and from the phone.
the streaming is important cause i have a server with a tv-card running..so i could stream recording to the dell and other pc's around the house. Also all my donloaded movies are on that server.
i installed yxplayer ..pffff, makes me feel happy again..plays divx, xvids etc withoud a hitch.
still no luck with streams..but i keep searching and will reply if i find a solution.
now i have to find a decent app for making folders disappear in the pictures and video app..so i can keep the private pictures private in one app and see them in another app
@ Kasperkie
Like a lot of people coming from windows to android their lack of knowledge about android seems to think that android is no good
Once you have had android for a while i will be very surprised if you feel the same
To me going from android back to wm6.1 would be like going from windows 7 to windows 98
Knowledge is a great thing and would recommend you read all the tutorials on the site
If you are saying that you upgraded to 2.1 and lost your pc connection, Dell released an upgraded version of the PC Suite that solves that issue.
Android takes some time to learn. More so from a nuts and bolts (hacker) view than just the general UI. However, I've found it gets progressively easier when you take time to understand ADB and the basic linux structure of Android.
Winmo, in my opinion, is way easier to grasp from a newbie perspective.
Would it be possible to control windows 8 on a non touch screen desktop pc or laptop with Kinect.
If someone makes the program, why not?
Of course you can, there just is'nt any (that I know of) software that's out that supports windows 8. I doubt Microsoft will ever impliment it into W8 natively, but I have no doubt that someone will impliment it themselves.
Google "Kinect minority report hack"
yes thare is. Try kinect hacks dot com!
you will need to install Prime Sence & Open NI or Open NI64 & probly some other niffty drivers for kinect finding the most resent versions of this software requires alot of digging at the moment and getting them working is not for the week harted you will need to fallow thare install notes & tutorials exactly!
you must have a kinect bought sepretly from a console that comes with an external power sorce and pc usb addapter!
works on windows 7 as well!
if you can post the software you find hear & your experiance's that would be good!

I have used that software before and I know a little about Kinect "Hacks".
But does this really support the Metro UI?
And is there any software that will allow you to use Kinect as a touchscreen (on Windows 7 or 8) that is built using the offical MS SDK?

I don't think so, Metro UI is an interface that can be successfully adapted to kinect, like new XBOX live dashboard.
Also I read something about it, but can't found where.
