radio over wap-gprs? - Networking

How can I listen to this radio on MDA-II Orange-World Netherlands, with my flat-fee package (APN=wap)?
http://digitallyimported.com/wma/trance_low.asx
Well, Mediaplayer says "playing", but no data over gprs.
By the way, using "APN=internet" will cost too much
so anyone idea how to do that (proxys etc..)?
thanks

Streaming over GPRS? You can do that? You're the first one I hear from who succeeded in doing this. That must be with bad quality and low bitrate, right?
Concerning the question, isn't it, that usually the GPRS connection gets lost when someone calls? Maybe when permanently stressing the channel with streaming, it doesn't receive the call notification. Just a guess. Maybe also a bug in the firmware. Which version do you use?
I use GPRS connection to listen streaming radio in Hong Kong...
sure the bitrate is enough, as it does not need huge bandwidth for audio streaming.....
For using GPRS connection to Browsing or send and receive email, it is no problem, when call come it, it will auto disconnect my GPRS.... but for listening streaming radio, it cannot......
Here is my PDA information:
O2 Mini
ROM version: 1.11.00WWE
Radio version: 1.13.00
ExtROM version: 1.11.922WWE
Please please help, if any body can.....
Thanks
Well, then my guess really is that no channel is free for the incoming call notification when you "stress" your mobile link via GPRS with an audio streaming since that's the only difference I can see in terms of the mobile network. I guess there might be no workaround, only you can try the latest radio update.
Thanks a lot......
If anybody can solve this problem, please post out.....
Many Many thanks
Hi,
The phone module that comes with XDA II is a Class B GPRS specs. This means that it can only do one function at a time either GPRS or GSM phone but not simultaneously. For that you need a Class A GPRS device. I do not know of such a phone device in existance. What I do know is that 3G does support both data and voice call simulatenously. So the one to kill for is the HTC Universal. Thanks.
Regards,
Kueh.
I dont't need the function which GPRS and GSM phone connect together...
What I need is just as normal, when phone come in, it disconnect my GPRS..... then it will be fine........

No incoming phone call, while using EDGE/GPRS streaming?

I have MDA tmo (US). My radio ROM is 1.13.10.
While i am using streaming audio (http://di.fm), i cannot receive any phone calls and will not receive "missed call" notification either.
Is this "by design" or radio Rom issue? does anyone have the same issue with different ROM???

this issue is quite wide spreaded on polish pdaclub.pl forum, however in my case it works flawlessly. i've started downloading abt. 500 KB file via GPRS straight from Wizard and then called from another mobile. i could pick up this connection and after that PIE just asked me if i'd like to resume file downloading.
maybe this 'bug' depends on network, not neccessary on hardware...?
thx... you do have a newer radio rom. It'll be interesting to know how other ROM may work...
I think this is network issues and not phone. It depends on your carrier.

It is not a operator/network issue*. The same part of the network does not know simultanously that the GPRS is actually downloading at that instant AND also terminating a call. The two things are asynchronous contexts.
It's the handset radio/OS that handles the switch and pausing (if it's a class B device) of GPRS when a call comes in. This sounds like something that will be fixed/made less flakey in newer revisions.
(*although that's not to say that the behaviour will not be slightly different on various networks)
well, i was under that impression because every phone ive had from nokia to motorola to htc has this problem.cant receive a call while data is being downloaded.

Samehere with Qtek 2.18 NL ROM on Dutch T-Mobile network: when i start downloading and i receive a incoming call, i can just answer the phone and the download is interrupted. When i end the call, i can select to continue download.
Sorry to bring back an old issue, but I think this is a ROM issue, I think on the custom 2.17 ROM it worked fine but I dont remmber for sure. THis is a big issue.
tokuro, you mentioned that you listen to streaming radio using GPRS/EDGE. Are you doing this without the audio skipping/rebuffering every 4 minutes or so? If so, how? What program/settings are you using?
Take a look at this , made a lot of research about the issue

EXEC dropping GPRS data connection when on the move

Hi,
I've recently put the JasJar 1.30.76 ROM on my O2 EXEC with its radio version 1.09.00.
Everything's great except I'm seeing the GPRS data connection drop and cease to reconnect when I'm on the move. This really upsets apps like TomTom traffic downloads! The only way to resolve the issue is a soft reset. I've just tried fixing the band to GSM to see if it helps.
Has anyone else seen this issue? Is it radio version related?
Thanks.

Is there anyway to play the radio through a wizard?

Possibly with buying a headphone set? Or inserting a ariel somewhere?
Im really hoping to be able to listen to Radio 6 which is a DAB / Internet radio channel.
Thanks
Read this  http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=51082
On a more serious note
You can listen to radio 6 via internet/wifi via
http://stream.servstream.com/ViewWeb/BBCRadio_music/Event/BBCRadio6.asx 16kbps
or
http://stream.servstream.com/ViewWeb/BBCRadio_music/Event/BBCRadio6_Hi.asx 48 kbps
I save the links from the BBC radio site which will open in real player on the wizard.
I tried using GPRS to listen to webradio and it worked great, just like listening to webradio via WiFi.
Does it take a lot of GRPS though? I only get 40

Unfortuantely yes - say 16 kilobytes per second = approx 1 megabyte per minute!! You need really to be on unlimited access to do this or connect to a wifi point.
That's all true what Meschle says, it works but it will cost a lot of $$ if you dont have unlimited access.
I was just curious IF GPRS was capable of stream webradio on my Wizard and so it did

Miss incoming call with HSDPA

HI All,
I just got a X01HT with WM5 ROM and 1.16 version radio, I used HTWeakC 2.1b to enable HSDPA (My service provider supports 3.5G-HSDPA), however, people couldn't call me when I am using HSDPA (with data transferring). They will divert to "voice message". So I always miss my call
But if I disable this HSDPA , and back to normal 3G network, even I am watching on-line video , I still can get my phone call, no miss call at all.
So I wondering why would this happen? I read some people on the web , they are using same HSDPA network with same X01HT but have no such problem.
Does it cause to radio version ? does the latest version (say 1.41 version) will fix this problem?
Thanks so much !

Yes... from radio version 1.38.30.10 simultaneous GPRS/EDGE/ HSDPA connections with voice calls have been enabled... you need to upgrade your radio... try reading that here

But actually from other forum, some people said that is not because of the device radio version. It's depended on the local service provider. But those people saying this are using same service provider with me , they can receiving incoming call during HSDPA network data transfer (with old radio rom).
So it really makes me confused.
Sorry abt that

OK, thanks for your comment.
Really Appreciated !
it's a known problem with sevral service providers.
Call your cellular company and check it out with them.
you can always diable HSDPA with a TWEAKing program.

I am quite sure abt that, coz' some people using same X01HT with same network service provider ( I read from other forum) , they can receiving incoming call during data transfer with HSDPA enabled.
So it sounds that it's my problem only.
thanks anyway!
My service provider is Vodafone IT, ROM version 1.23.165.2, Radio Version 1.06.00.00, HSDPA enabled, i'm receiving incoming calls during HSDPA network data transfer ....

It sounds a bit weird for me, 1.06 is better than 1.16?
(My ROM is 1.23.708.4)
Hi walshieau,
I have done upgrade, both ROM and radio
now ROM is black 3.01 and radio is 1.41
(Hard SPL-2.10 Olipro)
But my miss incoming call problem is still there.
Everytime when browser internet pages or on-line video (with HSDPA), people couldn't call me.
But if I use Tweak to disable HSDPA, no problem at all.
I really have no idea what's happening?!
Thanks so much!

Are u sure abt that ? Do u see the "H" icon when surfing on the web?
BTW, after I have upgrade to WM6 Offical SEA ENG ROM, and radio now 1.47
THIS ISSUE is still annoying me.
I have no idea why people keep talking about 3.5G, HSDPA , high speed surfing, if I could not receive incoming call , it 's meaningless to talk about surfing the web. Becoz' I have lost the most essential and basic function of a mobile/call phone.
I had this same problem both with my factory ROM and then with Black Dymond + radio 1.41, until I noticed my operator put out a new extROM. Installing that has ended all of these problems.
Can't be certain, but I think it has to do with network registration and certificates in how the operator handles simultaneous data and voice calls.
Lately I found out that I can recieve incoming call when I connect to Web (even HSDPA enabled), I think it should be depended on your service operator but not anyone else.
