no what i heard was that, every phone has a gps locater in it, this can be used to locate the phone using normal network antenas, there doesnt need to be a specific gps receiver in the phone,
maybe i have been wrongly informed :d
I've just been reading in another post about this kind of software : http://www.navizon.com/

If you have a question, just ask! I can't make sense out of your posting so far. Something to do with GPS....?
Nice writing stile, make it rime and you will be a star!
But seriously, the icon is there to help you manage a GPS receiver if you have one which obviously you do not.
So go out and buy a BT GPS receiver and a navigation software like TOMTOM and you will be all set.
Don't worry they all come with instruction manuals.
1st setup a bluetooth partnership with device under: bluetooth-settings-com ports-new outgoing port(com6).
2nd setup com port under start-setting-connections-external gps-gps program port(choose 7)-hardware-gps hardware port-com6-baud band as per device instructions, mine said 38400.
under access-make sure box is cheked.
This should be it. I use google maps for free with free internet access to open maps as you are driving. I use a bluetooth holux gps slim240 which I bought on ebay for $55.
Good luck.
with which device do i setup a blue tooth partner ship ..!!
rest all is done ..!!
what is gps reciever and navigation software..!!
i don t know this..!!
plz guide me..!!
I don't mean to be rude, but if you do not know these things and didn't think of googling for them you have no business messing around with anything saying 'GPS' on your device!
After all these are the basics:
GPS receiver is the thing (antenna and chip) that picks up the signal from the satellites and calculates your current position. It also connects to your phone via bluetooth to report this information.
Navigation software is the program you run that displays the map and guides you where to go.
And remember - if you do not know what it is you do not need it!
mr. levenum..!!
i need to know all this..
i will get it in a day.!
u plz tell me this how much a gps reciever costs and where can i find its software for free..!!
which gps reciever is the best.
is there any gps reciever which funcations as the bluetooth head device also..!!
waitin ur replies.. !!
and its does not matter..
u were rude..
its ok..!!

Don't bother, you're not ready for it yet.....
First learn about the issue then come back and ask how to use it.
am all set.. plz tell me about what i asked.. !!
in my previous message.
(yeah, I know. Why bother, eh?)

as for the navigation software, well you should really buy it. You can illegaly download it from, y'know, those places where you get all your cracked games from, but, like...we should all support software developers or it might not be worth their while to make any new versions....
waitin ur replies guys..!!
plz answer my question.!!
waitin.!!
1) I can't tell you how much a receiver will cost or where to by because I do not know where you live and chances are you are not in the same country as me so I wouldn't have the info for you any way.
2) There are no major differences between latest models. If you want to know a certain receiver better find and read a review.
3) NO!!! BT headset and GPS receiver are completely different things. Though now that you mention it - here is an idea for new product. Consider a startup company
4) yamilrx already gave you an answer for free software and a suggestion + price for receiver in US. If you want help in the future you should read carefully the answers you get!

As I noted initially a bluetooth GPS receiver is about $50-100 on ebay. I like my holux gps 240 slim because it is the size of a lipstick. I use google maps for free but there is no voice guidance unless you purchase software such as tom tom.
Follow my instructions to paire the bt receiver to your pocket pc and it should work. Remember the com port part it won't work if you don't do that part.
No! you cannot have a bt gps and bt head device but you can purchase separate and link both to your phone. I currently have my gps receiver, a bt headset, and my car's bluetooth phone linked to my qteq. As soon as I sit in the car with my phone it knows that it is my hands free and links everytime. I have a BMW 530i with built in BT phone which links to my phone contacts.
Here is my previous post:

This software (iguidance) has some great feathers, but every time I try to tell it to take me to my destination it tells me it is waiting for gps signal. I then try to make sure take Iguidance sees my gps when I do the auto detect (gps port/Baud Checker) and it see it, and it still tells me it is waiting for the signal. Then when I try to detect my gps again sometimes it tells me that it "No Gps Found, please reconnect your GPS receiver." I thinking some how it is keep loseing the gps signal. Does anyone have this same problem or how do I fix this. " I have the cingular 8525" or maybe someone can gave me a better away how to set this up from the beginning. "maybe i set the gps up wrong, can some one help) thank You!
read here and see if it helps you.
also what kind of gps receiver do you have? have you tried following its manufacturer's instructions on how to pair it?
i experienced the same problem and my problem was gps receiver related. had to RMA it back and have not had any pairing problems eversince.
i have the Bluetooth GPS Receiver - GlobalSat BT-359, i will read that link hopefully this works because i hate paying cingular $10 per mouth for the telenav, (that is a real good program, I just wish i didn't have to pay for it)
EDIT: that is what i did the first time, but i guess you have to have it on the highest port com. Thanks for the info. It works good. What do you think is the best Nav software.
really depends on what suits you. i too have iG4. i chose it over the others because of its good features. i.e. TTS, tells you which side of the road your destination is and also can be used on your laptop.
however, good as it is, iG4 too has issues. so this is something you might consider.
i'm sorry if this question is vague.
I'm working on a app for work that needs to be kept classified until done if it can be done.
I was wondering if there is way to use the bluetooth function on the phone within an app. without having to root your phone.
it's hard to ask this question with out giving away the classified information.
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/wireless/bluetooth.html
?
You can write code that sends and receives data over bluetooth if thats what youre asking. One example is handling the NMEA messages from a bluetooth GPS
do you think it would be possible to use a android phone as bluetooh headset?
Really depends on the phone and what you're connecting with. I'm not sure if a phone can receive A2DP connections, but it could be possible. Phones definitely can recive data connections over bluetooth, I just don't know enough about A2DP to know if the phone could work as a server for it. Someone else who knows more about A2DP maybe will know though.
It also could be possible to use something like SPP or RFCOMM.
Really, there isn't a good way to answer such a vague question.
sorry i have to keep it classified due to work, if it was a personal project i would give the full details of it.
Totally understandable I just wish I had a better answer for you.
thanks for your help i will keep researching looking the google information and etc
I think that if the Android libraries don't provide what you need (and I suspect they don't), then you are stuck, without root/SU.
I've developed an FM radio app that speaks to the FM chip via HCI, and spent a few weeks trying, but was unable to get raw HCI access except via existing command line utilities on the phone.

yeah that's what i was affraid of ...
I can't post this in development because I an still a nobody ...
Would it be possible to add in rfcomm for Bluetooth SPP serial port? The Nook would make a great tablet for telescope mount control over BT. You can't do it with the iPad due to the security around the BT stacks. It would also allow NEMA GPS modules to be read for different applications.
I'm running CM7 7.0.2 and this isn't yet available.
Just a dream?
Not sure if this is what you're talking about, but you can send the GPS data to the Nook form a GPS device like a Cell phone or GPS receiver. I use a stand alone GPS receiver and sometimes my Droid cell phone to send my location to the Nook to use CoPilot and Google Maps on the Nook. That's at least half of what you're talking about right?

Hmm, you got me pondering...
I got out my trusty Garmin GPS 10 and I can pair but it's not connected. That could be for a couple of reasons (the Nook only connects on demand maybe.) But if what you are saying is correct, maybe it does support SPP since it uses a comm port for the GPS.
But, when I connected from my notebook and checked the services, SPP wasn't one of them (just OPEX and AD2P.) I will keep playing but I half expect that part of the SPP stack requirements are missing.
On the plus side, if the GPS will work too, that is a second plus since it's nice to be able to ask the GPS for the specific time and location during the telescope setup (it matters.)
I'll look for an app in the Market that might read an external GPS devices and show the location. I notice most apps are for reading the phone GPS (which we don't have.)
Thanks!
Android does not support SPP, but there are multiple apps in the market which do, Bluetooth GPS Provider is the one which I prefer as it works very well and just works no matter what.
Thanks folks,
I fired up the Garmin GPS 10 and it works using Bluetooth GPS. That means an application can add in the SPP. That is perfect and gives us hope!
I really appreciate the responses!

Yes, apps can directly talk with a Blutooth GPS. There are a handful which do this, or again, Bluetooth GPS Provider will provide the BT GPS to every app that asks for GPS.
This isn't only about GPS. GPS is just one aspect. I want to communicate with any serial device over BT. My understanding from reading it that rfcomm and the applications can supply that function.
What I did notice last night is that even without an application that supplies rfcomm, the Nook would still discover the devices unlike the iPad. I could pair to pretty much anything I wanted but it wouldn't connect. That's normal from my perspective.
At least I know it can be made to work.

Well, the XOOM does at least. Not sure whether it was Motorola's or Google's doing though. I use a Bluetooth to Serial adapter from Roving Networks quite successfully with it. I'm unaware of any other devices that do it.
I agree that native Android doesn't support SPP but the rfcomm library does and if it's linked into the application, SPP works.
Now if I can only find a way to use VNC to control my PPC from the Nook without going through a remote server (maybe via adhoc or BT ...)
Any device at API level 5 (2.0) or above may support BluetoothSocket, RFCOMM and therefore SPP unless the OEM did something to screw it up.
