Thanks to unapproachable2kx I can now partially browse the internet in Italy using xda2 and italian vodafone sim, however I cannot send emails.
Receiving is ok using my ntlworld account but just cannot send them, I assume settings are wrong somewhere, but where ?
The other problem is I cannot access hotmail, other websites are ok so cannot understand why.
Thanks in advance.
A
you can't access hotmail directly by the site..
Also, check your pop3/imap4 and smtp settings..there are probably some error.
Good luck!
pop.ntlworld.com works ok uk and italy for incoming mail, in the uk using o2 outgoing was smtp.o2.co.uk so what I need is smtp settings for use with the Italian Vodafone sim. Unfortunately vodafone in this country are not too helpful and my Italian is not good enough in Italy !

Try with smtpmail.vodafone.it or smtp.net.vodafone.it.
Ciao, ilVanni
That worked fine, I can now send and receive email.

Would anyone be able to take the time to post here in detail the settings for O2 MMS in Ireland on a contract bill plan?
I was on to o2 support but it didn't work and got the impression the staff wasn't really up to 100% on the XDA - probably more used to regular cellphones.
I'd appreciate the help from someone with a working mms service on o2 contract.
Many thanks to all
Conor
you could try the o2 website,
there is a section in mms area (get the settings), which allows you to send yourself the appropriate settings via sms.
try it anyway and let us know how u get on.
I'm in the north so the settings may not be applicable for your region.
good luck anyway.
Thanks but no settings there
Cheers, but they only allow you to send the settings and install them automatically by sms. There's no option to send to an XDA - just Nokia etc...
Can someone just copy them down here from their o2 monthly contract XDA?
Thanks again
Conor
ok conor,
we'll give it a go then, what details do you need and I'lli try to supply them.
MMS blues...
Thanks David!
I'm not sure if N. Ireland settings are the same for Galway but sure, let's see!
For a start, does it connect via MMS Network, or GPRS or My ISP, or The Internet etc.?
I can't send at all. But I do receive notifications of a new mms and who it's from, but when I tap download it tries to download but gets stuck there forever without succeeding. Here's what I got from o2 support but it doesn't work.
Connect to server O2IE (the server name)
Gateway - 192.168.090.074
Server address http://mmsc.mms.o2.ie:8002 (I think!)
Thanks again!

MMS O2 Ireland
Hi Dan
Thanks for that - but I doubt the uk settings would work in Ireland.
O2 here tried to help so I guess I'm registered for these services.
GPRS works fine the prob is just MMS
Thanks again though!
If any Irish o2 pay monthly users could copy down their settings it might help.
Best regards to all
Conor
Conor,
sorry this took so long, got kinda busy elsewere.
have just looked and the connection was set on My Work Network,
I thought it was/should be, via the MMS network.
will have to try and see if it is still working.
the rest of the settings you gave matched mine except for the .ie replacing the .uk, and different gateway no's, this again could be a UK thing.
If I remember correctly I had some serious trouble at the beginning, I think it was something to do with the Rom version, when I upgraded it from 1.60, the MMS service started to function perfectly.
Rom?
Hi
My ROM is 1.60.00WWE
do you know if I'm up to date?
Cheers!
Conor
Hi Conor,
If you unlock your extended rom, there will be a couple of files relating to O2 customisation. It's made easier by using the horrible Active Today settings which can custimise your device for use in Ireland. I'm sure the settings are also made for the mms program. (sorry, I don't use it myself!)
As for the rom version, I think the lastest O2 rom is 1.66 which is available from their site, you could also go to version 1.72 which is available from this site. I'm at 1.72 and think it's fine.
Cheerio
Howard
Thanks Howard, David and all!
I'll try upgrading the RoM
very grateful indeed
Conor
Hi all.
Having a big problem with Onetel Pop3 emails on my MDA Compact. I can receive all mail no problems, but cannot send at all, the server either times out or it cannot connect.
Is this a OneTel issue? Been on the phone to them and cannot get anything sensible from the call centre staff. Or is it a TMob GPRS issue?
Can anyone help please? I've done a big search and couldn't find the info so hopefully wont be wasting anyone's time.
Thanks
MDAC
From what I understand your SIM is from TMob but your email account is from OneTel, right? You should use TMob's SMTP server settings instead of OneTel's.

Hi Gurus,
I have a major problem and am tearing my hair out. I've searched this forum as much as I can, and followed as many instructions as possible, but am still no closer to resolving.
I have an Orange SPV M600, which I've unlocked and have out an O2 online sim only in it - all fine so far.
I have deleted all gprs/wap setings for orange
I have set up O2 gprs settings as per the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=265647 - just the gprs and MMS part though (not wap) submitted by s_h_a_h_i_d (many thanks for your info).
I've then gone to messaging, and have attempted to get my UK yahoo mail coming down to the phone. I can receive everything, but whenever I try and send email from the account, i get the "Mesages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your email account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again". I let the phone get the settings from yahoo, and everywhere I've looked, the settings are definitely pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk and smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk with a blank domain.
Someone please help. This is insane
TIA
Javi

very normal, not your machine problem. If you know which ISP are you connecting to by WIFI, use the smtp server of that ISP. It will be okay.
If you're using a GPRS connection then you need to change the outgoing server to smtp.o2.co.uk
thanks for the reply guys. smtp.O2.co.uk worked. Happy holiday season

Well, I did find this info on the vodafone india homepage, hope it come´s to any help.
New subscribers will automatically get the settings named Vodafone live! and Vodafone MMS when you put the Vodafone SIM card into the handset. If you don’t get the settings automatically, SMS VL to 52586 (toll free).

I am from Mumbai,
The sms which u send from windows mobile will invoke the server to send you the VL setting which unfortunately doesn't work on WM based mobiles, u will have to use network configuration CAB available here, on installing select vodafone live on both my connection and my network connection. however this connection will not let u chat on google, yahoo through any application like palringo or IM, as this is proxy based connection, if u want to enjoy connected to chats on yahoo, gmail, u will have to pay 500 rs per month for advance GPRS (which is a loot) plus surfing charges as per usage.
