wi fi - cannot get IP address - Networking

well, i am still looking for an answer to my problem, maybe here i will find it...
i have the San Disk WIFI SD card for my I mate.
i have downloaded the driver of Socket, but still, i can connect to the hotspot but i cannot use the web.
because i am not an expert in WIFI i have asked one's opinion.
he asked me to check some details (i am enclosing them here).
he told me that my problem is not with my wifi card or in the network.
he told me that from unknown reason, i don't get an IP address.
can someone please lett me what can i do?

I have also had this problem with my Socket wifi card on my XDAII using the latest version of the socket driver. I have had to revert to version of the Socket driver (142D) because of this problem. Version 142D works fine, but doesn't have such a fancy interface as the new version!
If you need a copy of this driver, PM me.
Paul

It didn't help
Hi,
well i have tried the old version, but nothing.
i still cannot obtain ip.
any ideas?

I Have had the same problem and gave my M1000 a fixt IP adres yours should be something like 192.168.1.12 or at least something else as what your pc has further I always setup the nameservers you can find them to type in a dosbox ipconfig/all the DNS servers there you have to steup in the configuration of the networkcard from your phone , which can be found at settings /connextions/networkadapters there you will find the Sandiskcard just click on it and the settings for it will apear.
Now you should have connextion then still your PDA don't now that it has to use the networkadapter to get a connextion so you have to tell it to him at conections/settings/select network and there select twice work Network, this is only for your internetconnextion true your browser but email needs a other setting which you can find at your email client/tools/options/accounts/your emailaccount/next/next/next/options/there you selct work network/next finnish and now you should have full internetacces with your phone true your accespoint, if you want to use your phone to get your email just change the settings from work to providor internet, it seems to be a little complcated but it gives me at least a verry stabele internetconnection
Sucses with it

I get that message when im too far from the hotspot

XDAIIs wifi aaaarrrghhh - I wanna break it

into teeny weeny little pieces.
I feel so much better now!!
Anyways...I have a wireless home network up and running and would like to connet the xda to it.
I can connect to the router no probs but IE cant connect to the web. it says "the page you are looking for cannot be found".
Any ideas why I can connect to the router but not to the web?
Cheers folks - thanks
I know how you feel. There are a couple things you have to do.
First check that you have selected to connect via "work".
Then ensure that the IP address shown is in the range of 192.168.0.X
had no problems with my wifi on my home network, as ale210p said, I think it's with the way your connect via "work" or "ISP" is configured
hiya folks
thanks for coming to my rescue..hopefully i can get this thing on the road.
- in connections - advanced - select networks. both selections are set to "my work network"
- in configure network adapters - network adapters. the "my network connects me to" dropdown is selected to work.
- where can i check my ip address on the device?
Alhtough I am connected to my wireless network as that what the wireless LAN manager says?
any ideas guys?
many thanks
Is your internet provider checking the MAC address? my provider checks for the MAC address and hence I had to register my MAC address first with the provider.
I'm pretty sure my ISP isnt checking my MAC address as my PC and other computer on the network work fine with regards to internet access and I never gave the MAC addresses to the ISP.
However, my modem router does have mac filtering enabled. I have copied the MAC address of the xda to the allowed list. However I've also tried to turn this filter off and the result was the same....I still could connect to my home wireless network but had the same error message when trying to surf through pocket IE.
Any other ideas on why I can connect to the network but IE wont let me surf?
thanks again
I'm having exactly the same problem as Richard. What I don't understand is, I can drive around and find free residential wireless hotspots and surf the net , but I can't do it on my own WLAN!
IP info OK?
These symptoms could indicate that vital IP info is missing on your XDA.
Does your XDA get an IP address + gateway address + DNS server address from the router's DHCP server? Use vxIPConfig to determine this http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html
I know for a fact that many times (not always) my QTEK 9090 does NOT get the required IP info from my SMC Barricade 2804WBR b/g wireless router, so I started using fixed addresses on my QTEK.
If I use DHCP, many times I can connect to the router but am unable to access the internet... Because the QTEK has not received an IP address/gateway address/DNS server address in those cases. Fixed addresses always work.
whoa
thanks for the advice. i installed the app. rubbed the sticks together and there were sparks i tell you!!! but what does it all mean?
the ip address is 169.254.84.245
subnet mask 255.255.0.0
dhcp server 255.255.255.255
im no tekkie so am not sure what the above means? does it provide any clues?
thanks for the advice so far
just an update
i manually inputted the ip address assigned to my xda by the router as i have dhcp disabled on the router.
nonetheless it sill doesnt let me connect to the net but i can connect to the wlan?

Fixed IP address is good, but have you also put in the gateway address and DNS server address? Normally the gateway address + DNS server address = router address.
If your routers IP address would be 192.168.1.1 (quite common address), then your IP address could be 192.168.1.2, gateway address would be 192.168.1.1 and DNS server (name server) address also 192.168.1.1.
BTW; this:
the ip address is 169.254.84.245
subnet mask 255.255.0.0
dhcp server 255.255.255.255 <========= !!!!
means that DHCP didn't work!
I suppose that when you state "connect to the wlan" you mean that you can 'see' machines on your local network? Or what? That would make sense because you wouldn't need a gateway address and DNS server address for that normally (broadcasts).
siliconaddict....you're a genius!
finally it works, it works i say.
fantastic.
thanks to all for the advice and feedback - much appreciated.
can i stoke the fire and ask how i can sync via wifi as well?
never done it myself, but here is a guide
I have never synced over WiFi myself, but here are some guides:
http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.org/WM2003/ActiveSync/WM2003ActiveSyncConfiguration.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=132820
Please note that the next version of Activesync, version 4, doesn't do syncing over Wifi anymore...
Good luck!
Sorry to be a complete noob, but:
1. How do I find out the IP Address of the XDA (Is it in Wireless LAN Manager, under "current config" and "IP:"?)
2. My Netgear USB WLAN is showing an IP of "0.0.0.0" (on command prompt >> ipconfig) How do I change this?
Thanks
Q & A
A 1: On your PDA use Use vxIPConfig for this http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html. Unfortunately the OS doesn't have a standard utility for it, like 'ipconfig'.
A 2: Does your router hand out IP addresses at all? Or: is DHCP enabled on your router? If true, do you have the correct drivers loaded for that USB NIC? In Device Manager how does it look? Yellow exclamation mark? Can you post the output of 'ipconfig /all'.

help? 8525 BT/PAN + WiFi/AP(puter) = net4puter, but no broadcast..

products used:
cingular 8525
trendnet compact bt usb2 adapter
datel wifimax(b+g) adapter(uses zydas wifi drivers)(great for psp ad-hoc for xlinkkai, can also be turned into n access point)
so i've been usin that amazing lil program WMWiFiRouter for about 6 mo now and jus decided to get a BT adapter for my puter(wifi eats the crap outta the batt as most of us know, but it does the job). well, it works great, i can play team fortress 2 all damn day now w/o worries of the bat goin out on me. BUT now i cant get my puters wifi adapter to 'share' my newly configed internet. i've treid everythin, from internet sharing, bridgin(both xp n wifi prog), to makin all the ip addys myself, not a damn thing works.
now this is somethin i could really use since i live in the country, only get cell service and 5 of the puters here want internet that only _I_ host through my phone. i can always go back n use wmwifirouter but that defeats the point of the BT adapter n the batt life i could be savin.
so if ANYBODY has a bt phone and has figured out a way to get their bt shared through their puter onto their wifi access point, THEN PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!
until then, its a google day, n made testin configin heh.
FYI; if ya wanna see how well a 8525 acts as a net host for games(or jus wanna play), then search me out on the steam pages (nick always has 'Điesel' in it, best to search that).
hmmm, great place here...damn good thing i dun need help often when it comes to the electro world. n i'm jus sure i'm the ONLY person using bt n wifi, hah.
thx a bunch xda devo!
fixed my own prob, heres the 'light' for those that wanna do the same
so this is for anybody that wants to save battery power but still wants to broadcast their internet for others to use.
instead of using the mighty, but ub3r draining, WMWiFIRouter use the regular Internet Sharing prog that comes w/ wm6, set it up to connect through bluetooth(usb works to, but cannot charge as fast as the stock wall charger). you'll need a bluetooth adapter for your computer and a wifi router(i use a WiFiMax, good for psp/nDS or just getting my dads laptop online).
once your phone is connected to your newly made server computer(phoneBT->computerBT), you'll have to setup your wifi access point/router, this is fun tricky part. open up the Network Connections folder in winxp and turn on Internet Connection Sharing for your Bluetooth Network(right click on BTN, click on advanced tab, check 'allow other network users...'), you will prolly get some message talking about ip 192.168.0.1, click ok or whatever pops up.
now the fun stuff, normally you wouldnt have to do anything else, the connections would be made and done. but the phone is greedy and it wants to be the almighty 192.168.0.1, that a-ok, let the phone be greedy(normally the computer would take that ip and force the phone to change to something else, bad idea as the phone will not transmit the data).
so open up your wifi network connection properties(same folder as the bluetooth network connetion) and look for '[√] Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' under the General tab in the scroll box. highlight it and click on properties, click the bubble 'Use the following IP address' and type this in as follows
IP address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: (leave blank)
Preferred DNS server: 192.168.0.1
now your done! hah, ya right, but you now have your server computer setup to let people access internet through your phone. but you now have to setup ip settings for your 'peons' otherwise they use the default ip settings that just dont work.
all you have to do though is locate the wifi network you just made on the computers looking to get onto the server, add it to your network connections folder, then open up the wifi properties for that new connection. again, open up the '[√] Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' settings and click the bubble 'Use the following IP address' and type this in as follows
IP address: 192.168.1.(the last number NEEDS to be different for EVERY new 'peon'/client that wants to connect, server=192.168.1.1, client1=192.168.1.2, client2=192.168.1.3, etc)
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
Preferred DNS server: 192.168.0.1
now you have finished. FYI i don't know if the setup is the exact same for wifi routers that are their own entity(linksys routers) as mine is just a cheap usb dongle, but it should be along the same lines.

Help me to setup wlan enabled adsl modem. [ Solved ]

Hello,
Yesterday I got a wlan/wifi enabled adsl modem/router for my broadband connection which uses telephone line. I wanted to use the wifi output given by the modem, for my ppc in my home for internet. Something like wireless home networking. As this is the first time, I don't know or I'm a noob. The security settings in modem are :
Network Authentication: Open
WEP Encryption: disabled
When I search wifi signal, My ppc detects the modem; Says connecting and after few mins says unavailable so it don't connects.
Here is the manual : Link
Please help................
Solved : The modem was setted to "Bridging" ( Manual Connecting ) and after setting it to "PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)" ( Auto connect ), The internet in my ppc is working fabulous.
Thanks and regards
Ok, now my PPC says connected. When I assigned ip in network adapters->wlan setting ( SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter ).
But another problem here, Cannot use the net. Mean, IE or weather report or IM don't connect to internet.
Is there any MAC filtering set on the box? Are you getting a genuine IP lease, or is it a Windows auto-configured setting (169.254.x.x)?
Just looked at the manual - other things to check:
Is NAT (page 48) enabled?
Is DHCP Server (page 55) enabled on the box with correct IP range, subnet mask and gateway IP?

Hello,
Thanks for the reply.
First, It was auto configured IP setting so in my ppc it was not connecting but after assigning the IP ( IP : 192.168.1.2, Subnet : 255.255.255.0, Gateway : 192.168.1.1 ) the ppc says connected.
OK, I will checkout that NAT and DHCP.
Thanks again.
Hey buddy,
This is right down my alley, if you still need some assistance just pm me.

A challenge for the Profs

I can`t go into the Web via T-Mobile after I went into the web via WLAN
My wlan configuration is as follows:
network: Broadcom 802 DHD etc...
IP: I must put it in
Subnet 255.255.0.0
Standardgateway 172.16.1.1
DNS 172.16.1.1
Only when I erase the configuration I can go into the Web via T-Mobile but then
I can`t go into the Web visa WLAN
Crazy
What I get is that there is a "DNS error" when I try to go into the web via T-Mobile....
Is the challenge to guess your Windows version, ROM and installed applictions, browsers etc?
There's a thread for Q&A's, this is ROM Development.
Windows version: WM 6.1
ROM: The original rom from HTC
browsers: opera and IE
Pls help me because all WLAN and T-Mobile codes seem to be right
Although you dind't specify anything about the ROM and OS version you have, I can tell you a little about the way IP addresses work and why you're not having internet.
Every computer on the internet has an IP address and that is used to identify it. However there are on a home network more than one computer, so you have a router that re-routes your internet through it's own range of IP addresses. Meaning you get an IP from your provider, which your router stores, and your router gives all computers in a network an IP address. This way every computer in your network can connect to the internet without the ISP having to give you more than one IP address.
Normally routers work with a technique called DHCP, dynamic host configuration protocol, which allows all computers in the network to communicate and share addresses. So without having to enter information manually a computer knows that the DNS is 172.16.1.1 (for example) and that it's IP is 172.16.1.*. If you disable this technique you must enter the information manually.
This isn't a problem until you need to connect to more than one network. Since every network has it's own set of IP ranges, it's own DNS, etc. So when you connected to your WiFi and manually entered information for your home network you disabled the ability to connect to T-Mobile yourself. Since the IP you get from T-Mobile isn't the same as you use in your WiFi network.
The other way around is the same, when you connect to T-Mobile your getting an IP address assigned automatically, howevery our WiFi network doesn't give you one automatically and thus resulting in no internet connection.
I hope that made sense to you, kept it as simple as possible. Also I hope you can fix the problem... normally you can do that by enabling DHCP in your router by logging in into the device. (You usually do this by entering the IP address of the default gateway into your webbbrowser.)

KilZone - thank you so much for your kind answer !!!
I do only have an access point no router ?
Is this possible too ?
I think the access point functions as a router too, not sure about that, but you can try by entering the default gateway into your browser and see where you end up.

HD2 Android WiFi Problem - Experience Sharing

The strangest thing I have even experienced, and perhaps can save you time and headache.
** Summary (for those not wanting to read the whole story, but just the fix)
If your HD2 Android can connect to your home WiFi but cannot access Internet, check if your WiFi network uses a 192.168.20.x IP subnet address. The HD2 Android's USB port uses the same subnet, causing a conflict. If you change your home WiFi to use any other subnet, it will work fine.
** The Long Story
Been reading and admiring all the Android developments in XDA-Developers for some time, finally decided it was time to give it a try. Picked one of the more popular and stable MDJ Froyo (Desire HD) for SD and loved it.
Problem is couldn't use the Internet via WiFi from my home. Internet via GPRS works fine, Internet via USB/PC works fine, just not WiFi. The connection to WiFi is successful, picks up a DHCP IP address just fine, but no Internet.
Oh well, perhaps there is a WiFi bug in HD2 Android not reported so never mind.
Wait! On a business trip, when HD2 Android connecting to the hotel's WiFi, Internet works fine! Subsequently in many other places WiFi works also flawlessly.
Must be the WiFi router at home. Not too surprising as I don't use much wireless but wired all my other computers (including notebook PCs), it is faster anyways.
So went back and tested WiFi on a notebook PC (prior to that upgraded the WiFi router's firmware), PC connects and works, but HD2 Android still not. Tried all kinds of WiFi and encryption combination (BGN, BG, G only, WPA2, WPA, WEP), just nothing works for HD2 Android. >> Conclusion: not the WiFi router at home, just HD2 Android working with this particular WiFi router.
Finally (but forgot what app it was), I saw the USB port binding to 192.168.20.x subnet, exactly the same as my LAN subnet in the WiFi router.
Bingo, changed the LAN subnet to something else (really anything is fine because it is inside a NAT so not an issue getting out to the Internet) and HD2 Android works like a charm.
Hope this helps.
sorry, can you explain more where to change in the router settings? i can't find anything to change in my wireless settings
Look up the LAN (local area network setting) in your router, where the IP address for most WiFi router is set to use 192.168.0.1
In my case the WiFi router is set to use 192.168.20.1 (and DHCP to pass out 192.168.20.x IP addresses).
By changing the IP address of the router, most router automatically change the DHCP assignment to corresponding subnet, say from 192.168.20.1 to 192.168.x.1
x can be any of 0 to 255, just not 20 for my case or it causes conflict with HD2 Android.
Hi Dear friend , And Thanks for sharing experiences.
I have the same problem , but my router's setting is :
IP Address : 192.168.1.1
and my Starting IP Address : 192.168.1.100
IP Pool Count : 101
DHCP : Enabled
NAT : Enabled
Default Route : YES
but no webpage loaded , the weather not work . but the meebo messenger
with my yahoo ID just worked .
so how can i fix it ?
tnx
I notice the conflict (with my 192.168.2.x) when I checked the HD2 IP addresses (after connecting to the WiFi). When I see the USB port bound to 192.168.2.x I know the two just conflict with each other.
If something (meebo messenger?) works but not others... could it be your HD2 not getting name resolution (DNS ?). Say if you try opening this do you get the Google page:
http://74.125.153.104/
** This is Google's page without the need to resolve via DNS.

i think my Android's Kernels have been changes. maybe i'll can find something like this (equal IP address)
thanks.
I have following problem : At my university i have hidden Wifi network, locked with password.. But, ofcourse, we cracked their password, and now we can use their WiFi.. But i cant use it.. On WM i could use it .. One more thing to mention, there is a proxy u need to setup before u can go on internet trough that Wifi network.. but thats not my concerne yet.. I cant get connected to that Wifi.. I make new conn, with password and other settings, and it keep saying : Connecting... Disconnected...
Any ideas to help me ?
Thanks in advance
I had the same problem. I solved it by updating the radio to version 2.14.50.2. I think this version works best.
For me 2.15.50.14 works, too...
