I own an O2 XDA II.
I am using the UK ROM version 1.60.00WWE, rom date: 12/03/03, radio version: 1.10.00, protocol version: 1337.18 and ExtROM version: 1.60.50. I am now in the US and I am suscribing to T-Mobile service. I am able to send sms locally as well as internationally, but I am unable to recieve sms whether or not it is local or international. I called T-Mobile customer service and after 30 minutes, they couldn't help me.
When I insert the sim card into a normal mobile, it is able to recieve sms. I have a feeling that the radio version of my ROM does not support the sms needs here. If any of you would be so kind as to help me, your thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

SMS texts
Hi,
I ws in Kansas and Chicago 4 weeks ago for about 1 week. I had no problem sending or recieving SMS on my XDAII. I had the same Rom/ Radio loaded as you.
Although I used my UK O2 sim card it seemed to use the T Mobile network for a large percentage of the time. Before I went I checked that all my phone numbers were in internationl format for message centres e.t.c. is it something like that?

Hi everyone. Great programme thanks but can anyone tell me why my Vodafone contract SIM won't work? I get a signal fine, It detects the Vodafone network fine. But every call drops before connection with Unable to Place Call message. Also will not take incoming calls. My Orange Pay as You Go SIM now works fine... and it has definitely unlocked as only O2 worked before. But I need Vodafone SIM to work.
The Vodafone SIM still works in all other handsets. I have also checked with Vodafone and they say there is no reason why the SIM should not work in un unlocked XDA. There are no calls barred on the account.
Is it a setting I have wrong? Or something I did wrong in the unlocking process? Many thanks for anyone's help.
My XDA is Pocket PC 2002, 32mb RAM
Rom Version: 3.12.07 eng
Rom Date. O8.13.02
Radio Ver: 4.06
Protocol 32S54

Hi mate,
I have used the unlocked 64 mb xda with vodaphone with no problems. My rom was 3.16 and radiostack 4.20 and it wasn't any problem. Now I have upgraded to the good old xda rom from Jeff's kitchen and new radio stack from O2. I suggest you do the same and it will problably work better.
Good luck.
Cheers
Vic
I would wait a day before trying anything else, the phone is obviously unlocked to both 900 and 1800 mhz networks. I have had experience with Vodafone and T Mobile and Virgin recently where no calls could be placed for many hours, next day everything was normal, some kind of network problem. Have you tried the sms using the Voda sim, also what message does a caller get when trying to call you if you have the Voda sim inserted.
One more thing, I think it says somewhere that if you upgrade the radio stack to 4.21 then the unlock no longer works, so it would be better to get this solved before you upgrade the stack.
Thanks for your suggestions guys. But the Voda SIM works fine in my other phones and I have just tried it again in the XDA and same thing happens. Unable To Place Call. So it's not the network.
When I try to dial in to the Voda SIM on XDA I just hear a long tone...dead. It is a very early XDA. Don't know if that makes a difference.
Any help gratefully received as running out of ideas. Is there a manufacturer that may be able to help? But then they probably know less than you. I doubt if O2 will want to!
Many thanks again
Dave
Oh and Cruisin-Thru
SMS does work both ways...just the voice calls that don't. Any clues?
Thanks v much
dave :?
Have you tried manually setting the network under settings/phone/network, try choosing that and see what happens.
I have yes.
It's detecting Vodafone network fine. Just no calls. It's almost as if there's a call bar on though Voda tell me there isn't and it works in all other handsets.
Thanks anyway
Dave
One other thing, is that a very old sim card? Have you tried another voda sim in the xda, I remember having strange problems with some phones with the earlier sim cards, dont know the difference between them though.
Hi there, thanks. It doesn't work on any Vodafone SIMS. But all other networks. Vodafone say they don't know anything about the XDA and it must be a hardware fault..
Could it be that it is not unlocked "properly"? Should I run manipulator again? Think may have to give up on this one.
Thanks Dave
Does anyone have any links to early versions of Radio Stacks for the XDA?
I would appreciate it someone could either email me the files, or the link to [email protected]
("upgrading" to 4.21 has screwed my SMS settings) thank you.
Just as an addition - I'm UK based (not an O2 SIM)
Pre 4.21 RS
Hi.
I don't have your pre 4.21 RS, but have ex O2 XDA's on Voda and Orange and both work fine with SMS's. Is there some setting I can help with or is the issue more serious??
Pete
It's with a 3 SIM card..... it won't read the SMS centre number from the card/network..... so we can't send texts.
SMS Message Center Number
Can you not stick the sim back in the original 3 phone and read the number off here. You can usually edit it in the sms settings and read the original one. Or give them a call and tell them your real phone has lost its number etc....
Lucky you, there is no sign of 3 coverage anywhere near my place!
I can't - that's the problem. When going into the SMS settings, the phone says "cannot read from network" and doesn't even give me the chance to input the number.
As for asking for a new card.... we're not meant to be using the 3G SIM in a 2G phone.... or something.
Hang on.... its now working.... a restore has spookily done the job!
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and especially those who have replied.
I am lucky enough to live in Dubai, so I went out and purchsed the beast today..but I have found a bug in the SMS part, if you address it to a person with a GSM Intenationl formated number i.e. +971 50 xxxxxxxx
then it automatical removes the "+" which then causes the send to fail, I can however make a voice call to that same person "Phone" does not remove the "+", is this new I dont have this on my old Qtek or my i-mate Smartphone ? , I have tried to change the "Dialing Rules" but that dont seem to fix it either...
and Suggestions...
Derek
BTW if i manually insert the "+" it does send correctly...
Just found out that if I dont go via "Contacts" but open the new SMS and just start to type the persons name , then a pop up appears with all matches , selecting the enrty here "does" select the right format i.e.
Via Contacts on "97150xxxxxx" is inserted into the "TO" field instead of "+97150xxxxxx" , typing via the "V-Keyboard" and selecting inserts "Derek M<+97150xxxxxx>"...
what if you replace
+ with 00
you can do that as far as i know at least on std cellphones
that only works if the provider and the local country supports the "00" the gsm standard is "+" for intrnational access... Last summer I could easly make calls from Canada, USA, Germay and South Africa without changing the numbers in my phone...so why should M$ change this all of a sudden ?
BTW the whole software seems buggy !, I used the PC2003 on my Qteck thanks to the ROM kitchen, but now on the HTC implimentation of the PC2003 things are far from well I have hade the device 10 hours now and have lost 8 calls in flight, had to reset the thing 6 times due to hangs (mostly in an app when you press the Green Phone Button)
Don't worry about that.
Send your message anyway and it will reach.
I tried it locally.
I'll try it internationally and let you know.
I was in the UK last week , and really poor performance on O2 , VF was better but I had so many "Cant Take The Call!"...
:!: I can confirm the bug. it amazes me, that this slipped past HTC quality control, since it is so obvious.
BTW: Replacing the "+" with "00" gets you into trouble with MS Outlook, which then cant parse the numbert any more.
Seems to be fixed allready.
ROM version 1.03.00 USA
ROM date 09/24/03
Radio version 1.05.12
I found that it can't cope with a leading zero in the STD code (e.g. +44(020)8.... ) but after correcting for that it worked just fine strait out of the box.

Not on my handset here with the same software as you stated. Mine does exactly the same thing, removes the prevailing + from the contacts number. Hopefully will be fixed in the next ROM upgrade.
Hi guys!
The "new" ROM version 1.60, either from T-mobile or Dangaard for Qtek 2020, does NOT show the problem with the leading +.
I had originally 1.03 USA, but can not confirm if the problem was there too.
Good luck.
T-mobile upgrade was the smoothest one I've made to date. Currently using the county-id-hacked one from Dangaard, cause I've a Qtek.
SMS Bug in new Qtek 2020 phone - unable to send to Vodafone
Hi all,
I just received my new Qtek 2020 PDA phone from Expansys in the UK, down here in New Zealand. At first things looked great (eg. working) but when I went to send an SMS message, it failed , no matter what format I used. Then I came across this forum where the same problem also existed. My phone has the following versions ...
ROM version 1.03.00 USA
ROM date 09/24/03
Radio version 1.05.12
Protocol Version: 1.337.12
ExtROM Version: 1.03.21
Does anyone know where an upgrade can be obtained for an unlocked Qtek 2020? I am still waiting on a response from Expansys.
Snowman.
well one have to make sure that one is using the localizer because it have alot to say about how such things are handled
Hi
I'm having a problem similar to Dan
My handset is the Imate Jamin.
It doesn't have any customisation I don't think.
I can make and receive phone calls ok but I can't access the messaging services, send or receive text messages. Whenever I try I get the following error message
Phone
The phone is not ready. Wait 15 seconds and try again. I've waited a lot longer than that with no joy.
Everything was fine til I got new Orange SIM (upgraded contract). Old SIM was fine. New doesn't let me send/receive texts.
They're not interested in helping....not an Orange phone etc. (although the salesman told me the new SIM would work)
I would really really appreciate any help or advice you could give. Orange have tried sending SIM updates but I never get them (until I put the SIM in another phone).
Here's the details
Model: PM300
ROM: 2.13.9.23 WME
23/02/06
Radio: 1_02.20.21
Protocol: 4.1.13.9
Ext ROM: 2.13.9.123
Thanks in advance for any help!
I have recently purchased a second hand HTC p3450 handset that was locked to the orange network. I paid orange to unlock the phone.
I have three Pay as you go sim cards
Orange - Works with HTC
Asda (vodaphone) does not work with HTC
Virgin (T mobile) - work with HTC.
I have tried two other ASDA pay as you go sims, and these do not work in the phone. I have a friend that has a contract with Vodaphone and his sim does not work in the phone either.
I get the following message on trying to dial with Vodaphone
Network Error
Cannot read setting from the network, try viewing settings later or disconnect data connection and try again.
I have contacted ASDA and they have no idea's as to the issue. I went into the carphone warehouse and they advised that I contacted this forum as they had no explaination.
The phone settings are as follows.
Operator version : 23.116.1.611
ROM Version: 1.16.61.1 WWE
ROM Date: 06/20/07
Radio Version: 02.95.90
Protocol version : 4.1.13.45
CPU: OMAP850
Model No: ELFO100
Platform: PocketPC
I wish to use the ASDA vodaphone PAYASGO, as this is my main contact number. The sim card works fine in my Nokia 6100. I'm at a lost as want to try any suggestions would be great.
Many thanks in advance
I face the similar problem with my HTC touch P3452.
Tried with changing Radio versions (all radios available on this forum) and still have no luck.
