BlueTooth Icon not there after softreset! - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi have have a problem with my Bluetooth ICON not being in the task bar (bottom right), I have norrowed it down to be a today plug in called PocketBreeze (One of the best pices of software I have found for the Pocket PC, take a look: http://www.sbsh.net/products/pocketbreeze/)
It does work 100% on a few friends XDA II's but not on mine.. I have done a hard reset and all. A few people are having this problem, I have spoken to the developer and he is trying to find a way to fix this problem... Does any one know what it might be or how to fix it?
This is what I have found:
Basically if the device is booted up with PocketBreeze loaded I do not get a Bluetooth Icon on the bottom right of my screen, If PocketBreeze is disable when loading the OS I do get the Bluetooth Icon loaded. (once the OS has loaded up I can then load PocketBreeze with no problems works 100% with Bluetooth Icon)

No one has any ideas as to why the Bluetooth Icon would disapeer? could it be some sort of loading order problem or somthing like that? is there a way to try and change this? E.g. if PocketBreeze is loaded before Bluetooth in the registory could I rename PocketBreeze to say ZPocketBreeze so it might load last or somthing like that????

RE
HI,
FYI, I do not have this problem in using PocketBreeze.

i have b4 , my solution just import the my old REG FILE, may be another expert can point out where is value .

Hi Guys thanks for the reply, I have some friends that have not had this problem and some that have. I have been unable to work out what trigers it to happen as yet...
Has any one found that Reg entry that ttt340 mentioned?
Any help is appreciated!

Hi there,
I don't use pocket breeze but I have the same problem with PI Today from Deje. When this Today plugin is installed, I loose my Bluetooth icon on the Today screen. I had some support mails from the developer but he couldn't solve it.
Somebody suggested that there were too many in the Todayscreen but removing items there (even in the registry) didn't do the trick.
Teguru from tekguru.co.uk came with a handy sollution:
PocketZenPhone which is freeware. It is a plugin for the Today Screen with phone profiles. You can make a profile with bluetooth on. It works great! You can find the PocketZenPhone here on this forum (it has a thread of 102 pages!)
Wouter

thanks for the reply wouterk, I also got told about the to many things on the today screen but it also did not fix the problem.
Thanks for the sujestion about the extra today plugin that could fix the problem but I might wait and see if any one else has any ideas as every today plugin I add makes my Pocket Breeze smaller and smaller :-(... Never enough room... LOL
Many thanks!
Fudge!

Ok fudgebottom,
You're welcom.
I must say I'm very happy with PocketZenPhone but you're right that the today screen is always too small!

Missing Bluetooth icon after using PIToday

Hi guys,
I've been playing with PIToday for a couple of days now but I noticed one thing: My bluetooth icon on the Today screen disappeard after using PIToday. The only way to get it back for me is unchecking PIToday and soft reset. This is a bummer!
I've been checking some sites for solutions but could only find the solution mentioned above and one solutions for a 3870. This was putting a shortcut to the bluetooth icon in the startup folder. In the case of a MDA II, there is no such shortcut possible. I checked the registry and Windows directory but the is no .exe file which will start the bluetooth icon. Only .dll. But I don't know where to point it to. :?:
Any other suggestions? Because I would like to buy PIToday but I still want to access my bluetooth from the Today screen.
Wouter
Even though I am a huge fan of Pocket Informant, i experienced a lot of issues with the PI today plug in and stopped using it. It may be incompatability with other software I also have installed but as well as the missing BT icon it also caused instability (lock ups) and the occassional auto soft reset.
In regard to the missing BT icon though PI today is not the only culprit. Users of Pocket Breeze from SBSH Mobile software have reported the same issue. Only way to restore it is unselect the today plug in and soft reset.

Hi Ednap,
Somebody suggested a sort of sulution for me: Using Zenphone. In Zenphone there is an option to turn bluetooth on and off in a profile. And it seems to work!
It is not the solutions but a least it is workable.

hi,
some kind of solution
get the tool "No Plugins today" (h**p://www.ictinus.com/NoPluginsToday/)
install it (of coz)
insert into your registry a new string like this
HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\init\LaunchXX where XX is the highest number of the Launch under INIT (I use "Launch90")
enter as the stringvalue the path to the tool e.g. "\Storage\NoToday\NoPluginsToday.exe" or whereever you have installed the tool
insert a link under \Windows\startup or \windows\autostart (depends of the language) and point it again to this tool. Rename the Link in such way, that it will run last (eg. "XXXNoToday")
ok, thats all, reset your device, and enjoy your Bluetooth icon
It is not a failure by any of the Today-Plugins, which make the icon vanish, it's just a timeout of the btdll, caused by Plugins, which need too much time to initialize itself, so the icon just nor appear.
What does this thing?
after reset it removes the todayscreens, the bluetooth icon appears, and after that the notoday-tool switches the plugins on again.
you need some more time (3-4 secs) after the reset, but, who cares, you got the icon back

Nice work, IvkovicD!
I'll give it a try and I'll post this solution also at the PIToday forum. I'm sure this solutions is a great help for Deje the maker of the program.
B.t.w I tried SnoopSoft Dash Today Advanced today to see if I like it. It is not bad. A bit slow but guess what happens?
My headset profile is now gone! First I thought it was because I had too many Todayplugins but after removing a few and soft resetting it still wouldn't come back. Any suggestions for this one?
Thanks,
Wouter
To create a shortcut to Bluetooth copy the following into a shortcut file (text file with lnk extension i.e. Bluetooth.lnk):
34#\windows\ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,23
and copy it across to your PPC
My headset profile is now gone!
Click to collapse
Might it be that your profile is just gone from the Today screen? Check Settings>Personal Tab>Today>Items Tab and see if Profile is checked.
Hi Mark,
No. The headset profile was not there anymore in the list. I contacted Chris Scott, who makes DashToday and the only solution he had for now, was to uninstall the program.
Not realy a good option in my opinion.... Especialy because I just bought the program because there is no trial avaliable.
For your other solution:
I want to make sure that I realy understand. You want me to make a textfile and name it i.e Bluetooth.lnk. In this file there should be the line:
34#\windows\ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,23
Then copy this file to my PPC and presumably to the startup directory?
Just want to make sure.
Thanks,
Wouter

Click to collapse
Copy it to the Start Menu folder. It won't bring back your bluetooth icon back but you will be able to access the settings from the start menu.
Thanks,
I give it a try later.

Hi,
I know this effect. I've have this "vanishing", too, if I install too much today- plug ins. Just grab your favourite registryeditor and delete some build-in today-registry entries for today items, e.g. original-task, or some of the other build in ones. If you need it (I don't believe that , make a backup, but really, do you need them?)
reset your device, the missing plugs should appear again...
Sometimes, the OS just do not display some today-plugins, if there are too much entries into registry, even, if you do not activate them...maybe at MS nobody thought that someone needs more then 5 todayplugs at once...
just joking

Dejan
Hi Dejan,
Sounds like an interesting solution. Want to give it a try but I can't find the path to the right regkeys. :?: Do you know were those keys are to be found?
Wouter
Hi Dejan,
I found the reg keys. (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today) and deleted the Task, Calendar and Owner Info keys. Then I did a soft reset but my Bluetooth icon didn't reappear.
Too bad.
Did it work for you?

Magician: Today Screen trouble sorted out!

Hi,
some of you may have experienced all sorts of strange problems with Today Screen plug-ins - redrawing errors, plug-ins displayed twice, the "options" button in the Today settings bringing up the wrong app's settings etc. I had all these, plus a few more.
Thanks to Plantagoo, there is now an explanation and a way to sort them out!
It seems WM2003SE has a bug keeping the "Order" value of the plug-ins' registry entries correct. It assigns the same "Order" value to more than one plug-in, which seems to be the root of all evil!
To correct the problem, use your favorite Registry Editor and check the values
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\<PlugIn-Name>\Order
for all your Today plug-ins (where <PlugIn-Name> is obviously the name of the plug-in... )
Change these values so that each "Order" value is unique. Start with 0 for the plug-in you want at the top of your Today screen.
If you want a more comfortable solution, get
SKTools for US$ 9. It can, of course, do much more than just correct this problem.
I just went through this exercise, and all the problems I described were gone!
Planta, thanks again!
Cheers,
Daniel

Hm, seems I forgot to log in. The previous post is from me.
Cheers, Daniel
Thanks for your info!
It seems this problem is quite serious on XDA 2 Mini.
Hi!
Hey I just wanted to post this here. Thanks for doing this already for me.
And thanks for mentioning that I (accidently) sorted this out...
So if you have trouble with your MDA compact/iMate Jam/Qtek S100 go and check the order and numbering of your today plugins either manually or with a tool called SK Tools.
My MDAc runs fine for 2 days now. No problems yet - even with SPB Pocket Plus and VBirthday Gold installed.

Today plugin dev question

Update: Seems to be fixed now!
I'm hoping someone has come across this before and can offer some advice...
I was looking for a today plugin similar to the Wireless one but that allowed you to toggle your radio devices directly from the Today screen.
I couldn't find one so I pestered a friend (Delphi programmer) at work to write one which he did (in C++). The problem is that the plugin occasionally disappears from the Today screen.
This usually happens when the today screen is changed in any way (reordered or something else added or removed etc.) Our plugin will show up again if you remove and add it but I'm sure this is a simple problem of something we've overlooked?
Any help/pointers would be appreciated.
I never wrote a today plugin but I belive he forgot to include some "on refresh" or "on paint" function.
This may help: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms839442.aspx
and this http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb278109.aspx
Thanks LGSilva.. That second link looks like it might have some answers
That looks like a good plug in, please do share if you do fix it. Please.
Anyone like to test it ?
It seems the height of the window wasn't being updated properly.
I want to add a few options like icons/text display to it and it needs an installer of some kind but it would be good to see if it works ok for other people (we've only tested it on a Dopod 810 and an iPaq)
You'll need to update your registry manually for now...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Eff Comm"]
"DLL"="\Windows\EffComm.DLL"
"Type"=dword:4
"Enabled"=dword:1
"Options"=dword:0

Today Plugins like claunch and O2 Plus Shortcuts disappear?!?

Hi there,
I have a G4 Wizard, T-mobile AKU 3.3 Rom (German version), SIM and CID-Unlocked, O2 Genion Card, several extension.
What I realized, from time to that the today plugins disappear on my fresh hard-reseted wizard.
1st: a hard reset,
2nd: installed claunch or O2 Plus and activated the shortcut plugin,
....
worked with it, some time, then it is going to standby or I switched back to home screen
.....
3rd: after turning it on (or getting back to home screen) it sometimes loosing the shortcut bar. I never recognized it with other plugins.
Going to Settings/Today/Elements the plugin is still activated. Deselecting and selecting it again and pressing "ok" in the upper right corner activates it again?! This is confusing me.
I can't recreate the bug by any action. It happens randomly. But mostly after returning from stand-by.
It happens to fresh hard reseted states as well as when I installed some apps like Homezone, pocket breeze etc.
Is there any known problem like this?
Many thanks in advance.
That, unfortunately, happens a lot, especailly with cLaunch and I don't have the O2 plus plugin so I couldn't tell you if that one does it too. Here's a little app that you put in your windows startup folder that will get it to do it a lot less often hopefully. Ever since I installed it on my phone cLaunch only dissapears about once ever 10 times that I reboot my phone instead of almost every time.
Impressive, that seems to help me.
Thanks bro.
No problem, I know how much of a pain that is.
I have the same problem

Fix for 8125 and TILT, may also work on HERMES
This is one of the most frustrating things about Windows Mobile. I had the same problem with my 8125, and it just started on my 2 mo. old Tilt. Even though you have a Hermes, this solution may work because it is a WINDOWS MOBILE problem.
I've done major amounts of research on this subject and many people will tell you you need Memmaid (have it), or SKTools to fix this. Neither worked for me on either phone (except Memmaid is great, you should get it). There are also many other tweaker tricks as well, none of which worked for me. Some even suggest a HARD RESET. Don't do it, it isn't needed.
Here's what worked for me.
On the 8125: pull the battery out while powered on. Put the battery back in, and reset the clock. (the battery trick didn't work on the TILT)
On the Tilt: change the clock to visiting time, and accept changes. Change the clock back to home time and accept changes.
After looking at these solutions I think the clock fix would have done the same thing on my 8125.
I can't take credit for either discovery, however, I can't remember where I read them.
I hope this works for you and the others that experience this most frustrating issue.
Calendar reminders not working on HTC Tytn II (Tilt) + WM6.1
Hi,
I had recently updated my HTC Tytn II (Kaiser/Tilt) from Windows Mobile 6 to Windows Mobile 6.1.
It took me a little while to notice that my calendar reminders were not working. My "Task" reminders were working fine.
I did the suggested fix - which was to change the timezone to "Visiting" and back to "Home" - and now I have my calendar reminders working again. Thanks for the suggestion hksuper!
Prembo.
It works on Polaris too. Thanks you guys so much
Thanks
Thanks hksuper .... I just chaged the clock from home to visiting and then back to home and it worked ,,,, Thanks for sharing this info.
Hi,
I'm glad others are finding this tidbit of info useful.
What bothers me is that the solution is only temporary. It seems like it only lasts for a day and then you have to do the time change trick, which you forget to do. I would set a reminder to remind me to change the time zone, but it wouldn't go off to remind me.
I guess my solution is only a half a solution until someone figures out how to make reminders work permanently on Windows Mobile.
IN other news....I have an iPod Touch, sync'd to my Exchange Server, and it NEVER FAILS TO DING WHEN I HAVE A REMINDER SET. Unfortunately, the reminders don't have as many nice options (like snooze, which I find invaluable). So Apple at least gets points for making it work right. Got that MS?
Cheers!
As an interim solution for you hksuper, why don't you set the reminders on your iPod Touch to tell you when you need to reset the clock....
Seriously though I hope we can come up with a solution to an annoying problem... Come on MS, apples ahead of the game, time for you to get there too....
That is a really good thing to know.
Today I experienced the same problem on my Touch Pro 2, with Windows Mobile 6.5. After doing the clock trick, it is working again.
Hope I don't have to do this daily or else I just throw out this f*cking expensive device
I had this issue in Win 5 when I got my m3100.
I have never had the problem in 6.0 pro though and I use the calendar everyday.
Weird
Solution for calendar reminder problem.
Google "The poorhouse pmClean cab." Download the pmClean cab, perform a clean, and do a soft reset. I'm currently on the NRG Phoenix 2 6.5 ROM on my HTC Fuze and it worked remarkably well.

Works on XPERIA X1. Thanks.
The fix also works on my HTC HD2 T9193.
I had this problem a long time ago on win mo 5.0. I'm surprised to see the same problem is still with us.
