as far as i can see once you try and register it adds your contacts to its list so far i am unable to connect to blackberry i think my gprs is not setup correctly
Blackberry &XDA2 not yet available?
Have just been speaking to o2, an dthey have said that the Balckberry/XDA2, service will not be available unitl January 05? The softeare is here, but we can't open accounts?
Apparently, we will not have to purchase the fixed 15GBP per month line rental, good news, it will come off our megabyte/data bundles.
Does anyone else know more about this? Would liek to use this if possible?
Works With MDAII?
Does anyone know what would happen if I try to download this update with BES to MDAII?
There is a newer ROM version 1.72187 on the O2 Source site. a copy of which can be found on Here I believe it has the blackberry software removed and allows GPRS whilst on a call
Can I put this rom on an i-mate (i-mate 1.72 rom)? Any potential problems like device error or freezing?
Thanks in advance.
you can put it on 1.72 imate rom

To re-phrase, will this ROM upgrade that contains Blackberry software work with the T-Mobile MDA II?
chix, you have to change some settings to the ROM prior to upgrade... and you have to set the black berry settings after upgrade

Hobbit, the rom that comes with the blackberry client is for general consumers, if you can get the appropriate APN enabled on your SIM and are able to register with o2email.co.uk then , aside from any possible additional charges, then I see no reason why it won't work.
There's always the problem of getting the right APN on your sim tho...

Speak to O2 Customer Retentions Team (CRT) they are the only people that can change you to a BB acocunt at the moment. After that you will pay £15 pm for a 5Mb bundle (Still unsure if this includes all GPRS surfing as I was told this was the case when I took out the tariff, but then have since had conflicting reports).
It works very well, with no real hit on battery power.
See the thread on black configuration on this site for more details.
Will this ROM 1.72.181 work with O2 bought in Asia
Dear all,
My machine is bought in Singapore and the latest ROM update 1.60 was also supplied for Asia as well. Will there be any problem with upgrade for UK O2 customers?
Thanks.

Does anyone else have problems with the O2 website (www.o2.co.uk) and gettting it to work on their handsets?
Everytime I try to get on there, I'm prompted to upgrade my Explorer and then taken to the Microsoft website where the upgrade is for the desktop version, not Mobile??
yup
Do you know what the problem is?
I've been having a rather long email discussion with various Customer Service Advisors @ O2 (you know what it's like with them), and they still have no idea what it is.
I'll post the resolve if they find out what's wrong, and if no-one else does...
You need to fool the O2 website to think you have a newer version of Internet Explorer.
Download a program called RegKing 2003. I can't remember where to find it, but just type regking XDA in google.
The program allows you to change the registry and importantly allows you to fool websites into thinking you're using IE6.
Same here but...
I have the same problem but in theory u shouldn't need to! xda has its own xda compatible website and u can recieve ur o2 mails via ur handset!
O2 have now asked me to put my SIM into another handset to see if it I get the same problem. They'll know whether it's a SIM or handset problem this way.
Bloody shame I don't know anyone else with an XDA...
Has anyone had any joy with sorting this problem out?
Can anyone actually get onto o2.co.uk through their handsets?
This is really bugging me now, and o2 are as being as helpful as a blind guide-dog.
Richard
I have tried using a piece of software called tweaks 2k2 to set pie to look like IE6, and can get onto www.o2.co.uk fine (its a bit slow though) I'd suggest you try that.
Does anyone have any idea when we may be able to use Blackberry connect on the IIi. I bought this particular model because of the performance benefits and with the knowledge that in 'Spring' O2 would release a ROM for blackberry connect. Well spring has come and gone and in typical fashion, UK service providers continue to let down their customers with empty promised of further rom updates. If any O2 person reads this forum, all I'm asking for is some information about the release date. My O2 corporate account manager told me yesterday that O2 have no immediate plans for a ROM update so whats going on? If you're saying your going to release an update and then miss the date, please have the curtesy yo let your customers know. :x
How funny! I was just about to ask a simillar question.
I've been (trying to) using an XDA2 with a BES4 server & the BB update. It is not good & flaky. At the moment it won't stay working for very long. I've tried several XDA2's & none better than others.
I was going to try an XD2i & wanted to come on here to ask experiences.
I was under the impression that the BB client currently out worked as is on the XDA2i ??
It's not included on the O2 ROM, though if you know of a separate client I can install - let me know...
There *used* to be one on the O2.co.uk site under upgrades. It was a 250K file that you ran & installed itself onto the 1.72 ROM.
Its not on the website now
I was hoping I'd d/loaded & saved it but I can't find it at the moment. It was an .exe
Anyone help?

That ROM is meant for XDAII.
I am disappointed as well that O2 did not materialize their promise to release Blackberry for XDAIIi. I have made the switch from XDAII (blackberry on 1.72) to XDAIIi and suffered without Blackberry.
I know that ROM is meant for XDA2 but there was (at some point) a file that you could run that installed BB onto it without running a full ROM update.
Now the added file here from the Extended ROM adds BB functionality to an XDA2. I'm guessing that this is what that d/load was. Anyone want to test it on an 2i ?
I was brave enough to try. The software installs successfully but thats all. It doesn't appear to connect with the desktop client and the desktop client is telling me that the software is not installed on the XDA. Hum-ho!

You can install both the desktop config and blackberry client on your XDAIIi but RIM won't connect for you. There seems to be a check for authorised version.
In the past, I have tried on different ROM version on XDAII e.g. WM2003SE 2.06 but failed. It worked only after I change my XDAII to official UK O2 ver 1.72. Therefore I concluded that unless the ROM you use is official ROM version meant for blackberry, all other version will fail.
I'm confused, some people here seem to be talking about BES, others I think maybe talking about internet mail which works differently.
What versions are everyone trying to connect to, I might be able to help??

There *IS* a client for IIs and IIi, but there are problems with ActiveSync that are holding back it's release (RIM/Microsoft problem).
What do you want? software with a bug in it that will cause you to complain even more?
I have been told it is coming out 17th Oct from O2.
Encouraging, the 17th Oct is exactly the same date that o2 have given me on Wednesday, I was told that the o2 site would be updated and the new ROM would be available and includes BB Connect...
These updates used to be available from the developer site prior to release, where has the developer site disappeared to, I can no longer find this any more
Lets wait and see....

Hi, was wondering if anyone can help me setup blackberry on my o2mini..
I have upgraded to the latest ROM which claims to have blackberry function.
But i have no idea how to make it work to start receiving my pop mails..
can anyone help me ><
i am with vodafone if that helps...
Just pop into a Vodafone store and they will help you set it up...you will have to go on a plan (not prepaid)
u sure they can help me set it up?
i remember going in before enquiring about blackberry for O2mini and they said its not suported officially..?
Would the setting up blackberry procedure the same as other ones?
i'll go in and ask them then
thanks
From memory I think you'll have to go onto the $49 data plan to use blackberry since they now charge $1 per 5 mins of GPRS connectivity.
Nearly makes me want to switch back to Telstra..... nearly
yay~~~
now its working~
basically you need to have BB account with your provider (pay service)
and setup account thru their website.
You will need your device's IMEI/PIN number
and POP3 email address + passwords and thats all!!!

I'm wondering whether this is still working for you ... according to this thread, the folks at Blackberry kick you off after a few days if the BB Connect client does not match the ROM's original network ...
PS. i have read alot of discussions on here about getting it to work properly... just to let you all know, if your PIN number for your blackberry client meant for another network.... blackberry themselves will cut of the traffic to your pin number... although this may take a week or so for it to cut off. The network you are with will not know this has happened hense you will get no help from them. This is a LICENSING issue... tech support advisors will not have this within thier network's published information.

Yes its still working for me - with vodafone.
The only thing its not promised to do as a proper BB device is not been able to receive the emails straight away at occassionally.
Also, if you have the USB plugged in the BB email gets disabled automatically untill u unplug it.
I upgraded to the T-Mobile ROM 1.3.
Didnt do the big storage patch as i got lost in the middle of the tutorial and couldnt be bothered... ;p (BUT still have about 20mb original storage)
Also the post about BB checking mismatches probably only applys when ppl install the O2mini 1.3 ROM --> O2miniPro..
Otherwise i cant think of anything that i did more to make it work continueous.
Voda BB unlimited plan is $49 month i think.

Thanks for the info. In any event, work won't allow me to use my O2 for this - not a secure enough device, according to them.
BTW, I did the bigstorage thing ... very straightforward if you follow the 8 steps at the bottom of this page.
well thats too bad ><~
But about the security issue.. i m sure if the hackers really wants to get in your email they will always figure a way..
If you company uses a work server + sercurity + firewalls + whatever then probably YES it will be insecure compare to BB but then you cant use your email unless you at work... guess that the trade off..
With the Vodafone:
What happen is they give you a <[email protected]> which the settings etc links to your BB device - O2mini.
So whatever emails in the inbox there will be on your device.
To setup you have to 'nominate'/add your various pop3 accounts to make it PULL emails from them to the this <[email protected]>.
Hope this clarify some of the ideas the technology uses for you newbies like myself ;p

The issue is not really with BB Connect. The issue is that with Blackberry devices, the IT department can force a profile onto the Blackberry device and set up policies that cannot be overriden. Eg, they can set a policy that the device will ask for a password after 5 minutes of inactivity. This however cannot be done with a PDA running BB Connect.
Other examples of policies that they cannot enforce:
- Internet usage (web browsing, ssh'ing etc)
- Installation of software (games, etc)
Have you guys had any luck getting this working with Optus.
I have been trying to get it going for about 3 days now and am about to put it into the to hard basket.
Hi all,
I got it all installed and got my email address and 'the activation" password from my IT department. We use Blackberry Enterprise server.
There is no place for me to enter that information in the settings, any idea?
Thanks,
Eric.

BLACKBERRY WORKING INOPTUS SETUP
After you install the BB conect from T mobile change the regional settings to dutch (Netherlands) after that start the blackberry aplication and it should log on to blackberry after that go to http://www.blackberry.com/go/email/optus and register the handset you must have a blackeberry data plan
You can set the regional settings back to australia after the first registration seams to work for me .
An O2 account manager told me that they expect to release the new ROM with MSFP and presumably A2DP / AKU2 today, no sign on the my-xda.com site yet though.

Once you've entered the IMEI code it directs you to here

But gives a file not found. Guess they're still updating the web pages.
can you give me imei for a mini s device, i will upload asap
Okay, I see they've not updated the page I clicked above, but if you go to the main page the links are there.
The 50Mb EXE file downloads as 4K though, so somebody clearly jumped the gun when updating the page.
I can only see the file : Launch ROM v 1.5.4.102 (49.0 MB) ??????
UPDATE : Downloading it now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
me too - the rom links are now live
Let us know how you get on.
I'll try it in the morning.
In Germany we have the problem, that o2 have never released a rom since some for the XDA I and II. No one for the III / Mini / Mini S. And i think this Rom won't be available in germany too.
O2 has a very bad update politic.
Contacted O2 with regards to Costs for using push email, and they inform me that its only the amount of GPRS data you use (Personal user not business).
But they include 1Mb free with every tariff and anything additional is £3 per Mb.
Is this the correct information ? Sometimes customer services do give out wrong information.
can someone post the direct link to the update as when i put in my imei number and phone number, the site just keeps resetting back to the start. i ported my number from orange so don't know if they recognise it as a o2 number.
http://xda.o2.co.uk/downloads/Xda_Minis_Upgrade_v2.21.4.101.exe
Is this rom that different to Qtek as I can see the radio etc is the same its just the extended rom that is newer, and that is prob just full of O2 crap that no-one needs.
But if I'm wrong let me know.
As everyone with a Wizard wants the best for their little pet!!!
This thread is to enable firstcomers to comment on whether they managed to install BBC and make it work. This is a major requirement for me to move into HD2. I look forward to receiving news from you all.
if it works in winmo 6.5 why shouldnt it work with HD2?
For whatever reason it didn't work on HD.
I really doubt about BIS working on HD2, as i tried a lot but not successful in gettting it to work in my HD.
However, BES may work.
It worked flawlessly on my ex-HD (installed on shipped ROM and tested on most of the cooked ROMs including Leo build ROMs) the trick was be changing the AKU of the build then installing the latest 4.0.0.106
Changing the AKU can be done by installing the attached cab.

Did not use the Desktop tool to connect.
Upon installing the software on the HD2, click 'Register', it initiates a data connection, gets an IP address, then disconnects. Longest i have had it working for is 1 min.
Will try the desktop tool but not putting any to it.
Have tried changing the AKU and other settings but
