Caller ID Monitor - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi,
Whenever I tap and hold on the upper right corner of my taskbar (which drops down menu of all running programs), I always see this program Caller ID Monitor running. No matter how i close it, it just keeps on appearing after a while. But I notice that it appears after someone sends me a message or call me. What does this program do? Will it harm my system if i close it?

Nope, it will not harm your xda if you close it. I see your using Pocket Plus (the drop down menu on the close button is from Pocket Plus).
This is a general program used by the phone to show names and photo contacts when somebody calls you or text you. Note that photo contacts are for incoming calls only. This application is usually running on background always and started when you reboot.
Just quick note if you keep on closing the Caller ID Monitor application, if you do use Photo Contacts, your contacts image won't sometimes show when they call you, since you previously closed the said application it sometimes doesn't have enough time to run Caller ID to show the image (happened to me twice already).

My Mogul List

I've owned my HTC Mogul for 5 days and have been keeping a list of questions or issues I have about the device. Sadly it has grown and grown. I've only owned it for 5 days, so it's possible that there's a setting I missed, but I have been through the menus many times.
I have done soft resets and hard resets (two soft keys plus reset key together). No third party software.
OUTLOOK EMAIL
activesync set to "as items arrive" for peak and off peak, direct push enabled but doesn't push new
messages to the phone. I'm using an activesync server with dp.
push doesn't work even when outlook is open, have to click send/rcv to get new msg.
closest I have come is once I got notified with alarm 10 minutes after email was sent. I have sound notify enabled for new emails. Don't know why it worked this one time and not the other 99%.
no setting to "send and receive at startup", even as an option?
Oultook email has locked up twice, had to do soft reset
INTERNET EXPLORER
IE has locked up twice, had to do soft reset
SOUNDS
no option to choose which email account to enable a sound notification for? So I have to get notified for all or none (not that notification works anyway, see above)
alarms don't go off if device in sleep mode, which is most of the time?
---
MISC.
blue/yellow light flash constantly, what purpose? Is the phone also an aircraft? why so bright?
Volume on the phone is too loud, even when turned all the way down (not the speakerphone volume). I guess that's better than the reverse, but why not let it be turned down to 0?
The whole point of a volume control is so people can adjust to the volume they want. Yesterday I was on the phone with Sprint (again), I had one of those foam earplugs in my left ear, then the included headphone bud on top of that and it was _still_ to loud. I work around fans all day, a room with huge computer systems and I'm probably half deaf from it.
---
PHONE
no setting to set # of rings before it goes to VM
can't use data and voice at the same time
---
PICTURE
no way to delete a pic while viewing? as in touch and hold for a menu to pop up (like IE) or even a delete option on the menu (while the pic is open) You have to "OK" out of the pic, then remember the file name to delete from the list.
---
PROGRAMS
progs. don't actually close when you X out, they stay running in the background. Have to go through 5 taps, then manually close them. No way to change this even as an option?
---
Keyboard backlight works 10% of the time. I have unchecked the "autosensor" box. Happens in a pitch black room also.
---
EVDO
I get ~450kbps in a speed test to dslreports.com. I know that's technically in sprint's advertised window for Rev0 "400-700 Kbps" but I'm squarely in the EVDO coverage area, not on a fringe or in the boonies.
Sprint is sending me a new phone because I know the backlight issue is a defect. But some of these things are just bad design.

Rings before going to voice mail....that is a setting in your voice mail box... I don't know of ANY Sprint phone that has an "in phone" setting for that....
Closing programs, search the forum for HTC X-BUTTON 2.0.
Delete a picture while viewing in the default viewer, click and hold, then select DELETE......
Anthony thanks for your response. I just dialed vm and I did not find any option in any of the menus to set # of rings before calls go to vm.
When I tap/hold the screen while viewing a pic with default viewer, nothing happens.
I know there are third party apps so thanks for the info on x-button, but I'm going to wait for my 2nd Mogul to arrive before taking time to research and install them.
# of rings to voice mail
that is a service from your provider.... for me it's *93"#"
"#" is the number or rings.... i think it's 9... call your provider and ask them

Reject Call With Text Message

Does anyone know how to get this to work?
It can be found in Start - Settings - Phone - Advanced Tab
Mine is ticked but doesn't seem to do anything when I choose Ignore to an incoming call (i.e. the caller is not sent a text message saying the above)
Any ideas
I have wondered about this for a long time, but haven't come up with anything to make it work, sorry.
I usually disable it sooner or later, just in case.

I have unlimited text messages so charges isn't an issue for me.
All I can find is the option to send a text message when a call comes through, but nothing to automatically send a text message on an ignored call.
Hm, I think it's like this. Someone is calling you and if you wan't to ignore/reject the call, put your phone upside down on a table(with screen to the table), the call will be automatically ignored and I think THEN the message will be sent try it, not sure
I think, I have figured it out.
On an incoming call, you have the option to click on "Send text" in the lower left corner. The call is then rejected and you can compose an SMS to send to the caller.
I use an app called SMS Minder to do this myself, and I'm quite pleased with the results. You can have it respond to all missed calls/texts (select BLACKLIST & leave the field blank) or only to missed calls from certain numbers (select WHITELIST & add the numbers you want to respond to).
I've been using it for several months and it makes my work so much easier. I'm a cabdriver, and when a call comes in & doesn't get answered for whatever reason SMS Minder sends a message that says "I can't talk now, please text me".
For the longest time I didn't really trust Texting that much, but it's become an integral part of my work now. So much easier to read&reply to an SMS (10 to 15 seconds tops) than it is to dial voicemail, listen through the prompts & recital of the phonenumber, then listen to the message...and finally after all of THAT is done, then return the person's call. Texting is just that much easier.
Especially if I use a program like this to automate my responses...and a program on my desktop to send other text messages just like they were an email (it's got an interface similar to Outlook). I plug the phone into the computer & tuck it away...then any interaction I have with the phone is done by using Jeyo Mobile Companion (SMS interface with additional cool features) and/or MyMobiler (fully manipulable screen-shot of the phone's screen) on my desktop.
Of all the apps I've tried and/or discarded, these three have become almost indispensable to my work.
Use QSMS To Buddy:FullFeatured Free app from android market
Posted Android app on non Android forum by mistake. Sorry!
i believe, given the age of this thread, that it is about the native windows mobile feature to reject calls with an sms and there was no need to bump the thread with an app for another operating system. also, on android, depending on your phone and rom, this feature might also be pre-installed and available from stock, w/o the need for a 3rd party app.

Call Timer

Does anyone know of a good call usage monitor. I use to have Phone Dashboard but I can't add this to the HTC Homepage. The call timer in Windows Mobile only monitors all calls not just outgoing calls, as far as I can see. Any ideas

Ummm....have you checked under the call history button on the dialer? When you launch your dialer, click on the call history button. If its showing you all calls click on menu-->filter and select only outgoing calls. It should show you only outgoing calls now as well as durations for each. At least that's how it is on WM6....I don't know if they've changed if for 6.1
Nope. You can view only the duration of the calls when you open Call History and select specific person in it. Or through Contacts -> Click contact -> Menu -> View all calls.
It is very disappointing, because at least I want to know the duration of the last call. Doesn't matter if I end up the call or the other party. This dialer doesn't show last call time!
Thanks [email protected].
However, the Call History lists all the calls made or have come in via the filter. However, I want to know how many minutes a month I have used and unless I try and add all the outgoing message together, I'm stuck.
Under Call History there is a button called menu which gives the option "Call Timer" but if you click on this it gives you the total number of calls made since last hard reset (I assume) and the number of minutes used since last reset. Most people, I would think, with a contract want to know the number of outgoing minutes since last reset (with reset being since the last cut off date for calls on their contract). This appears to be missing. Can anyone help or know a program that does this that could be intergrated with the HTC homepage.

I'll second that, any way of\software for knowing how many minutes have been used in the monthly bundle?
Try Home Screen Plus
Have you guys tried Home Screen Plus? Its a great piece of software...and If I'm not mistaken it does have a feature to track call timers etc. Give it a shot. Its free Make sure you download the latest version. I know of a lot of other older versions floating around.
that is a real cool app but also a little heavy just for the calltimer. Anything with a small footprint out there?
Thanks Guys. However, I want to keep the HTC homescreen but I don't think you can add bolt ons to it, so any homescreen add-on won't work. I need a program that runs on its own that monitors the minutes and then being able to access it via the programs tab.
Found - LCMinutes
Not the easiest to configure, but once you grasp the concept it's a doddle (and elaborate).
LCMinutes :X
so i played around with LCMinutes and all it did was give me a headache! lol
i found this and wanted to share:
hxxp://www.hudsonmobile.com/products/phodash/index.html
is very very neat and a very easy to configure
ta
I had heard it didn't work on the HD but if it does, how about sharing it on the wiki
Can anyone comment if this works with TF3D?
Call timer on Dutty´s Touch HD 2.1 is missing?
Hi there!
Anyone having problem with a missing call timer on Dutty's 2.1?
Or should I do a hard reset?
Thanks!
I am using phone dashboard which I find is very good and should suite your needs. Without Today screen it is a pain to use but still possible. Goto settings->Today then highlight the plugin and options. There is one tab which shows you the usage. But you have to "regenerate" the data before viewing.
Alternative, why dont you just run TouchFlo + Today screen (using TFD or SecondToday).
I know phoneAlarm also have a call duration tracking but phoneAlarm is just too much of hassle to configure.

Contacts/Phone app

Hi guys, I've just moved over from iphone so still finding my feet with android.
For the most part android is far superior but the contact side of things is still bugging me. This is what I want to be able to do:
1. Have my call log as calls only, not texts. I know you can change this to view calls received, dialled etc, but it soons defaults back and shows everything. I just want my log to have dialled and received and nothing else? I'm sure i've read somewhere on the net that this was possible on the SGS through a hack??
2. I want to set up a favourites list of say best mate, gf, work etc and just be able to press their name and it dials there number, not opens another window that shows history, text option, dial option video call option, i.e. just direct dial. I also would like this to be the first screen that opens when I press my phone icon on the dock??
I've set my gf up on my desktop as a direct dial shortcut, but I don't want to be doing that for everyone. I've got a load of contacts but maybe only dial 10 at most on a regular basis.
are there any hacks or thrid party dialers that do this??
Cheers

I can help you with #2. Just swipe right on your favorite and you call that favorite immediately. Swipe left to immediately send a message.

hmmm, can't say i can see a way around No.1, other than using a new dialer/contacts app such as Go Contacts or Dialer One etc..
must say, i actually quite like the comprehensive log, coming from Sense and Stock roms with calls only, i like having it all in one place...
Dialer One would be my choice, but only as i used it on CM7 on my Hero for its smart dial feature... can't comment on Go Contacts
hope this helps
Dickie
I use loads off texts a day so within 10 mins of dialling someone their details are long gone
I'll check out Go Contacts and Dialer One though, thanks for the recommendations
This is a Samsung thing, regular android does not put texts with the call log. I don't think I'd like them to be combined like that.
it is the right thing to do

Go Contacts is just the ticket
Thanks guys, much better now

Call Not Sent

Using G975F Exynos, every now and then I am getting Call Not Sent error when I am trying to make a call. I can't pin point specifics that happen right before that, other than I think that the phone is playing something in the background (stream) or something like that. I try to dial from an address book and immediately the call drops and the above error shows up at the bottom. I may see (again - not scientific, but I think I noticed that occasionally) a difference between dialing from favorite contact - that is pressing the green phone icon in a favorite contact right at the top when you open the contact - vs dialing from the contact when you scroll down to see all the contact's numbers (does it make sense?!).
I would like to emphasize:
1. I don't always get this error, hence why I can't really put a finger as to what transpires right before that.
2.. It happens also when I manually dial, not just from address book.
As spoon as this happens, I see a white icon on the top that says something to the extent of "Voice is working in the background". It lasts a few seconds then disappears. Sometimes I am able to dial right after it disappears, other times I need to wait a few minutes until the phone is "ready" to make the call (no indication of when this happens, it's just a simply trial and error).
Anyone else experience this?
Thanks.
No one else has this issue?!
This is what I see in Voice when I get Call Not Sent. It can lasts from seconds to over a minute where I cannot make any call.
No one?!

Looks like it's a new issue nobody had before i'll put in my 10 cents and say that your app is somehow tied to something else and hence (Busy) and unable to dial i think you're on the right track. I would go into your list of apps i find out which app has the ability to make calls like Viber, fb messenger, skype and disable one by one to find out which one is doing it. Look for that icon you see in that screenshot you posted it doesn't look like a default dialer app icon to me.

It looks to me as the Google Voice app, but I don't necessarily call using GV when I am getting this error (meaning - the last call before starting getting Call Not Sent is not necessarily made using GV but rather the standard, mobile dialer).

Some voice dialers do have the option to set as default it might be causing a conflict disable it or uninstall it and see if the issue persists.
So it has been determined that this issue is happening when I try to dial when a BT headset is connected to the phone. It happens with two different BT headsets (different manufacturer and different types), and it may happen in the first call after turning the BT on or in a repeat call, either to the same number or a different number.
No one else with G975F or other S10+ is experiencing this issue?
Anyone? Is no one else having this issue of CALL NOT SENT when re-dialing with a BT headset connected?
Bump
Still looking for solution. I can't my phone is the only one that refuses to dial/redial when a BT is connected. Anyone?
