try looking here http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com
but it's something which works when the device is in REAL standby mode because then the lcd is 100% shutoff
because it's tft and that big it eat tons of batt power if it were to display something like time
so all pda's are in suspent mode like pc's when they are tuned off
is it just me or the clock of xda2 is fast???
well it sync with the pc clock at each sync
unless people turn that option off
and as a rule pc bios clocks are pretty poor
of cause if one have set the pc clock to update to a timeserver then
it should be pretty good
if the clock start to drift if you dont sync for awhile i dont know
Alturion gps syncs clock with satellites.
why this isn't implemented in TomTom i can't understand

I can half understand ActiveSync not letting the D2 going into standby but why does it insist on keeping the screen on? It's one of the things that slows down charging of my D2 when in the cradle - the screen is consuming power just a little bit faster than it can charge.
Also, why can't ActiveSync also let the unit go into standby? There are obviously things that can wake up WM out of standby (like an appointment reminder) so it should be feasible to configure ActiveSync to sync ever 30 mins like one can do with out of the cradle. It would wake up, do a sync and then go back into standby.
Or is ActiveSync just functionally lacking? Any better in WM6.5?
Cheers, Rob.
Hello, there's a setting somewhere where you can set how long the phone screen is on when 1.) using battery power and 2.) when charging. I think the default for charging is to always leave it on.
Littlescott is right - go to start - settings - all settings - system - Power - Advanced and set yor preferences on turnish screen off at specific intervals.

I used to find that activesync would wake my jasjam up every few minutes after i had put it into standby mode (pushing the power button). Can't remember if the diamond2 does it too but it's not a problem anymore as I always set it to diskdrive mode when I connect it so when I put it into standby mode it stays there.
This probably isn't so useful for you if you need activesync to do it's thing but it works fine for me when I just need to charge

Yes, the Diamond 2 can connect in disk drive mode (which makes it a USB disk drive but only the memory card) but as you say, it disables ActiveSync which I do need, not constantly.

First - let me state - and it is true - that I used the search function.
I read pages and pages of advices to lower battery consumption on my HD2 Android... without success...
First I used an SD ROM. I read that a NAND would improve battery life. So this is what I did.
I am also using SetCPU with a profile when battery <30% and another one when screen is off to LOWER the CPU speed. In normal use, I set CPU speed at 768MHz trying to lower power consumption...
I use a task killer to free memory and prevent silly programs to drain my battery off...
I use Juice Defender to control wifi, data, etc...
And with all of this in place, my "Current widget" shows a consumption of 180mA with screen on doing nothing, up to 350-400-500!!! mA when acutally using the phone wifi+sync...
In the forum I read consumption like 3 mA - 9 mA!!! This is FAAAAAR Way lower than what I ever had with different builds...
So this is an help scream to everybody: what is your battery drain, and why mine is sooo High???
Hint: I am also a fan of LCD Density changer, with setting at 165... can this have an influence on battery drain??? I reverted to the original 240, doesn't seem to have any influence...
Thanks for your help,
Looki
My drain is 3-9 ma in STANDBY ONLY now and again slightly more but mainly the values stated. And my screen on between 120+160ma. Turn off auto brightness if you have it on, and set it at the lowest your comfortable with (display is big batt drainer) I DONT use taskillers as they do more harm than good. I use NO undervolting and only the default settings with my rom. I have low lcd density setting 167 i think. Lcd density has no effect on your battery drain!
Found this here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13151738&postcount=11296 Might be of some use to you? (from hyperdroid gbx thread)
Whats youre rom?
And do u use ext partition on sd?
I dont even use SetCpu anymore. Only taskkiller.
Auto-brightness is on
Auto sync is off.
Im using UD 3.3 nand from crawlingcity
Stansby is 3 -6 ma
Using round 160 to 250.

How long does your battery last from 100% to self shut down? As for Current Widget, keep in mind that when people say "Standby", its generally referring to the screen being off. Set current widget to update every 30 seconds, and turn the screen of for 40 seconds. Then quickly turn the screen on, unlock, and check what it is reading then.
If its still high, try "Force Stop" applications in the Settings > Applications menu one by one, i've had to do this more than once to locate problem apps that were destroying my battery in standby mode.
I'm knew to Android, let me share you my idea.
I use UD3.3
I removed google stuff
gmail, search, etc
No auto sync
Location off
Always kill market when screen off.
I use beautiful widget for weather manual refresh.
I use battery widget
Auto level for screen
sometimes WIFI on
2g Only
2 or 3 calls,total of 3 to 4 min a day
My battery stay 48 hrs in STBY mode.
I think the most draining factor is
1) google stuff they are battery hog.
2) screen
3) bad written programs (every time they check connection to
internet or looping for doing something, looping will make
CPU in high frequency).
4) bad device driver such as BT which is known as 60ma
drain. it is not the hardware but it is the software doing
the drain.
thanks

I have setup the phone to sync weather for example every half an hour. If the phone is on stand by it does not sync. It is as if it turns off the data connection. Any help would be appreciated.
Any ideas? It will only sync when the phone is awake and unlocked? If the phone is locked it doesn't sync
Im surpriesed nobody can help with this!

No help at all? Basicily data does not sync at all when the phone is on stand by. It is as if the data connection disconnects. I cant seem to work out how to "keep it alive" Any help would be appreciated.
GhostXSeries, what activity do you expect from your phone in stand by (sleep) mode?
Sleep mode also called "standby mode" is an inactive state of the device that is quickly brought back into action by touching any keyboard key or pressing the on/off switch. It is used to save battery power.
In sleep mode the screen is turned off, all system processes are suspended (including data transfer), and the CPU is throttled down to its lowest power state - no activity. However, all instructions and data still reside in memory, and dynamic RAM memory chips require power to hold their content.
So what kinda sync do you want to have?

The main one I would like to have updated is the weather. I do not see the point of being able to set the weather to automticly update every half an hour if the phone does not do it while in stand by mode. If I turn the phone on and update maually it works fine. Is there any way to sort this?
My phone will automatically update itself if the set amount of time as passed while it was in standby mode. Meaning, if I set it to autoupdate every hour and I've had my phone in standby mode for 2 hours, when I wake it up, it will automatically sync the weather and any other data that should have been syncing during it's standby phase. Does your phone not do this as well?
There is also an app called "Screen Off" which will ONLY turn off the screen and not put your phone in stand by mode which means that all data and such will continue to function while your screen is off.
Oh and I was waiting on a definitive repsonse to the "only weather" question I asked. Obviously, just your weather not updating properly and ALL your data not updating properly are two very different problems.
I did not read the first post carefully. So you mean - the system timers do not work properly - they don't wake up your phone from standby for weather update?
I have mine set to do the same, but fo example for again the weather, I have it set to update every 1 hours, when I leave the phone on overnight and check it in the morning it does not update untill I press the manual update button.
Say I had the phone updated at 11pm and put it on stand by, check the phone at 8am the last update time was 11pm. It will stay at 11pm and only when I press the update button does it then update. It is not an overly big thing but I am under the impression that If I set the phone to update every hour even if it is on stand by or not the latest it should be behind is 59 minutes!
This isn't a thread for when your battery drain is excessive on standby, this is a thread dedicated to figuring out how to simply get more power to the phone for extended runtime.
I'm using a 5000 mah external battery pack for extra charge, and it seems to be good enough to last me at least an extra day or two of usage, which is great. It seems like the only other options are cutting up the battery door to fit an extended battery from the evo 3D or just carrying extra batteries...
Best easy change for me was always using wifi instead of the network when at home and work. Made a huge improvement

So....how to get the most time out of your battery in standby?
As you've allready said:
One of the biggest improvements is possible by using a Sensation or Evo3D battery. With that i get a nice 1% per hour in standby. (It's actually a bit lower than 1%).
While not using the phone it's unnessecary to have 3G activated. Recieving emails and texts via whatsapp, viber etc via 2G is good enough. For everything that is more datahungry you can allways activate 3G manually.
Keep background data turned off. I use K9 Mail which works independently and Whatsapp recieves messages too. But a lot of other stuff doesn't syncronize which means less wakelocks and thus less power consumption.
Same with locations. As long as you don't WANT to tell google your every step you can keep network based location turned off.
If you need a location fix quickly you can allways turn on gps for a moment. After using the FasterFix app (i guess you need root for that), i get a gps lock in 5 seconds, so i can determin my location really fast and share it with others (for intance via whatsapp) without having to keep it on all the time.
And last but not least:
You probably don't need to know the current outside temperature every 5 minutes. So set that to manual update too.
Doing these things doesn't turn my smartphone into an overweight dumbphone with a battery problem and i get a maximum of over 4 days of standby time out of it.
Normally my battery holds for roughly 35 hours (1 day and 11 hours), but it's usually awake for 1/4th of the time serving as my newspaper and video and mp3 player.
/edit:
Totally forgot:
Use llama!
You'll never have to worry about forgetting to set your phone on vibrate while at work and setting it to loud at home.
You can configure it so it only activates wifi at home and turns it off again if you didn't connect to any access point after a set amount of time. I haven't had to activate/deactivate wifi manually for ages without having to worry about it constantly searching for networks and sucking my battery dry!

Exactly what he said, but you can automate a lot of it by using an app called Tasker. I use it to sync all data on my phone for 3 minutes every 4 hours so it's always up to date. It can also automate the GPS on/off depending which app I use so it switches on when I open CoPilot and turns off again when I close it.
Tasker can also replace Llama if you can find 'profiles. to do it. Llama looks pretty good though.
I think the biggest drain is the display. With auto brightness on, the sensor will monitor the changes in your surrounding every second the moment you turn on the screen. Turn that off and manually control the brightness save a lot of battery.
Or just use lower autobrightness script.
I use Invisibright. Long hold on search softkey + slide enables me to set the brightness to whatever I want in a second no matter what apps are running.

It is still useless as your sensor is still working every time you turn on your screen. The sensor is draining your battery. Not the brightness value.
Autobrightness sensor drain
So you think that there is a greater drain from the light sensor than from an uncontrolled screen brightness?
Interesting thought. I'll manually set my brightness level a round20% for the next charge cycle and see what effect it has, though I suspect that as my display currently accounts for 20% of battery drain it won't make all that much difference.
I use juice defender and I think its actually working.

Hi everyone
I installed about two weeks ago the United Kingdom BUT MJ7 stock rom and from that moment my battery life is horrible.
I tried to disable everything I could, here's a list of what I disabled:
- Wifi
- GPS
- Bluetooth
- Reading mode
- In Wifi settings: Always allow scanning
- Air view, Smart scroll, Smart pause, Smart stay
- In software update: Wi-Fi only
I tried also disabling the "Remotely locate this device" in Android Device Manager under Google settings but it also didn't improve the battery life.
I set the brightness to auto and the Power saving mode is off.
I don't want to enable the power saving mode because it feels later that... I don't know how to explain, I don't like it.
I don't use any bombastic applications, I use Facebook, news, workout app and antivirus. That's about it.
I don't play games and don't mess with big applications.
I charge my battery everyday and in most cases now (after the update) twice a day. For example: last night I had my battery on 80% or such and in the morning (after 6.5 hours) it was around 60% (~20% per 6.5 hours).
Also, during the day, when I use it I just go to facebook and such silly stuff and I start my day with 100% and end it with 60% (and again - no playing games and no stuff like that which require maximum graphics, CPU performance and such).
In settings>Battery the Screen is shown to be the most "heavy" process but I already set on automatic brightness, the screen timeout is 30 sec. and everything is disabled except from "Auto adjust screen tone"(but it's written in its description that it saves power). Oh and also I have adapt display turned on.
I also wanted to say that before the update my battery was OK and only after the update to 4,3 that happens.
Thanks in advance for any of your help
Edit: forgot to mention, I have I9505 if it matters

So you'll have to live with the battery drain. This "issue" (Access to my location ON) is the most battery consuming thing I've ever seen in the android world since 4.3 arrived. LTE (4G) connections comes in 2nd.
I use my S4 in "energy save" mode & LTE OFF most of time. Also, I have "Blocking Mode" enabled for the period I'm sleeping and installed the Lux app for improved brightness control (I've the paid version).

I don't have LTE yet in my country so I guess this service is off in my device (?).
I also have enabled the power saving mode but still there's a battery drain and as I think, disabling all these GPS&WIFI&BLUETOOTH&AIR GUESTURES&AIR VIEW&MOBILE DATA what you all suggest is like having an old Nokia 3310 so what's the point in having a smartphone if I can't use a basic option such as weather forcasts. I hope this issue will be solved in Kitkat.
Meyhemg, I see your point. First time I upgraded my S4 to 4.3 got a feeling I had to turn it into an old Nokia X1.
But soon Sammy released a fixed firmware and battery drain now is gone. Course if you enable all that crappy Sammy stuff (that makes you look like a Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, bouncing hands and so on) battery will drain like a hell.
Have you tried the new MJ9 firmware, as suggested? What is your actual baseband and phone model GT-I9505?
As for the LTE, check under "More networks | Mobile networks | Network mode" that "LTE/WCDMA/GSM" is NOT enabled. As you don't have LTE/4G you can keep the settings as "WCDMA/GSM".
Also download CPU Spy let it run for a couple hours and tell me how much Deep Sleep you get.
