Will I be able to upgrade XDA's 2002 Version to 2003 when it's released in the next months ? :?:
No, at least not likely. Rumour has it that the new OS requires more than 32Mb of ROM. That is why the iPaq 3970 and 5450 (and a few others) carry 48Mb ROM.
Would we not be able to do a limited upgrade AKA the 3630 ipaq upgrade to 2002 and maybe add a few apps into ram ??
I hope so.
maybe also we can increase ROM size? does hardware supports this? As I know, RAM upgradeable on all MDAs/XDAs to 64Mb (and maybe more? I seen info but don't know how)
So if we'll got 48 or 64 of flash rom we can upgrade. But what 2003 system is will be? Can you give some infos about it?
Pocket PC 2003, codename Ozone, will primarily be a bug-fix release for Pocket PC 2002 with few enhancements. Users should not expect big changes.
Well i agree you may not notice many deffrence or changes but i was assured from people at Microsoft that majore changes within the OS will take place. I am not sure if they will ever be able the fix the bugs GOD knows each day we discover tonnes...
Anyways we should wait and see
Why wouldn't it be possible to upgrade?
The amount of build-in ROM shouldnt be that much of a problem. Since PPC 2003 PE mainly features bugfixes that total size of the OS shouldn't have increased that much. Else it would be possible to install some application is RAM like they did for the iPAQ 36xx.
The only real reason I can think of is the lack of support from O2 and the other telco's that sell these devices.
Keep hoping!
Kamil
I think it is very possible to see XDA can upgrade to PPC 2003 phone edition, however the upgrade may not be free. I look forword to upgrade my T-Mobile MDA with a PPC 2003 O2 English ROM  .

More About Pocket PC 2003
Microsoft recently gave developers an overview of the next version of its Pocket PC operating system. Codename Ozone, this will primarily be a bug-fix release for Pocket PC 2002 with a few enhancements.
Developers will have access to new tools to allow them to build applications that take fuller advantage of the XScale processors found in most of today's handhelds. However, these applications will not run under Pocket PC 2002. Of course, the reverse is not true, as Pocket PC 2003 will retain backward compatibility.
Microsoft has decided to postpone adding other new features, such as voiced control, until a .NET version of Pocket PC is completed -- expected in two to three years.
it will be possible to upgrade the 3870 too ...and it has the same amount of rom ...if i'm not wrong ...
Er... according to Microsoft sources, pocket PC 2003 phone edition runs on Windows CE 4.2 - this is more than a bug fix release!
2003
does anyone have a copy of the BETA version floating around?
IT works fine
I have hacked to HTC phone, parts are SX56 and parts are XDA, but I am running 2003 fine on it right now. There seems to be all sorts of little things, and some of the skins are much prettier, but other than that I don't notice anything huge.
Yeah, I am running Palm OS 6 in my reconstruted XDA with 256M ram and Amd Opteron processor too. It is extermely fast, as fast as my Desktop computer.
hehe

YESSSS!!!
xda with PocketPC2003 is a reality! At least one such device was received by local pda-related software company for review. I have no details about current devices upgrade availability, though.
The only fact is: PocketPC2003 for xda exists and should be pre-installed to new devices after OS will be presented by Microsoft.
I have it on good authority that it is feasible to put PC2003 onto Xda, however this will only happen for evaluation purposes and is unlikely to be available as a general upgrade.
Any body know that? Waht is th diference? Please help
Those who did not upgrade because they couldn't see any difference will tell you that there is no difference; those who did upgrade will tell you it's worth the upgrade because it costs you nothing but a few minutes, and at the very least lets you install software that is for PPC2003 only (as well as other benefits I won't go into)...
I really don't know where you are trying to go with such a question, you make your own justification to upgrade, otherwise DON'T!
some programs dont work with 2002 if made for 2003 like ms voice commander or what ever it's called
2003 also add 2 volume sliders one for phone and one for pda
and i think it support midi and wma ring tones aswell where 2002 only support wav
2003 also has some sort of bug in it that keeps erasing my freakin' sda card!
How do I go back to 2002?
flashing a xda1 back and forth is easy using the sd card flash way
does anybody knows anything about it? Where can I download Windows CE 2003? Thanks for any info or help.
you cant
it have to be specialy made for the devices
it's not free as a rule
unless o2, tmobile and ... deside to release it without cost
if they deside to not release it at all and leave xda1-2 with 2003
and only have "xda3" get SE then there really is no way
This may sound numb but how do we undertsand if a computer has service pasck 2 installed? I am asking this because I am using w2000 and planning to do the upgrade to 2005 by using one of my friends laptop. Or is it possible to upgrade through w2000?
Thanks in advance...
a bit cunfused there
there is a os called pocketpc 2000 it's very old
and no himalaya device have ever come with it installed they come with
WM2003
there is an os called windows 2000 it's workstion and server based
and came before XP it's current service pack is 4 i believe
any himalaya device can be upgraded to 2005 as far as i know
so if you are talking about the MW servicepack which is included in
1.72 then i would not worry too much
ok let me explain.
I bought an T Mobile MDA II yesterday and it is on the way from Germany to Sweden now. Since I am totally new to this, I am trying to read all the things that I can that is relevant to ugrading my MDA II ROM to 2005. I think I figured out how to do it, but the only problem I have is that I do not have a PC (not moble ) installed XP on it. All I have is a PC which has windows 2000 running on it. I am asking is it possible to upgrade my MDAII to 2005 using my PC which has Windows 2000 on it.
Since according to the instructions of buzz to upgrade to 2005, the PC that you are using should have XP with a service pack 2 installed. I got a friend who has a laptop with the XP installed but I do not know if this laptop has SP2 installed. So the second question is how can I undersatnd if a computer has SP2 installed.
Thanx...
if activesync works then the upgrade works
if activesync works (i'm sure it does) you can check on activesync's site at ms
or try it out
Thanks Rudegar,
I have just installed the AcvtiveSync to my machine that has w2000 on it. It seems that it is working. Now waiting for my machine to arrive

if you want to know if it is sp2(winxp) installed...right click the ''my computer''>''properties''
you can upgrade to sp2(winxp) for free, just simply click the "windows update'' in your pc.
you can install the AS4 to win2k / 2k3 / winxp but i don't think if you can sync(wm5) it but not all...just try it.
Hi,
I've just recently bought a cheap O2 XDA from ebay and came to the unfortunately conclusion that its not compatible with Vista. From what i can gather, the O2 is a wallaby smartphone. I believe it has Pocket PC 2002, which doesn't work under vista because activesync is now obsolete. I can use the new mobile device sync under vista but it requires a Windows Mobile 2003 or later device. Do I need to install a later ROM.. or can i just use the WM2003SE cooked rom from the kitchen site? I just save that onto a SD card, and then run it from the XDA.. and that will update the phone to 2003? I don't need to do anything other than this?
Cheers and thanks for any help.
There's is actually quite a lot involved in upgrading the rom.. be very careful or you will end up bricking your pda.
Here's a good page to start with the basics so that you know where to start from.. once you are familiar with terminology and have a rough idea of what you are doing, come back and ask more specific questions.

I know I just seem to be say "go read", but the process is so involved that you are better of being at least familiar with the process.. so that you won't end up breaking your pda.
