Ringtones... - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Can i assign different ringtones to different contacts ? I tried to do it, but it seems i can't do such thing...Anyone can help ?

You have to buy third-party software, which is ridiculously silly.
The only software I've found is MTUX's RingToneX. I purchased a copy, but I'm not entirely happy with it. If I'm going to pay for a "feature" that's pretty standard on most other phones, I want more stability, and a few additional features out of it.
Addressing stability: RingToneX sometimes unloads for no reason, resulting in the default ring for all contacts. RingToneX sometimes loses its ring settings for no reason, forcing you to manually reassign contacts to ringtones. (This may not be MTUX's fault; it may merely be because ActiveSync is a categorical piece of crap that Microsoft should be embarrassed to tears over.)
Addressing configurability: I'd like ringtone categories by time and/or profile, and for phone numbers not in contacts. E.g., don't ring at 3AM, except if it's someone really important. Don't ring for "Unknown Caller," ever. Ring differently for people in my contacts but not with a specific ringtone assignment. Etc. Etc.
Other than my rants, it's a great product.

mates,
on the issue of ringtonex, i noticed that when you perform a soft reset then the app is disabled even if the icon is still showing in the tray bar. what you do is click on the icon and click exit. then go to settings-personal-ringtonex. when the app is up just click "ok". you'll then see the icon back in the tray bar in your today screen. click on the icon again and click "reload contacts". the app is then fully enabled again. not sure if this is a bug but doing those steps above works fine for me.
as strange as it may seem; the icon also sort of "prefers" to be on the left-hand most on the tray bar. example; you have the bluetooth icon then you have the ringtonex icon. when performing a soft reset you may notice that sometimes the rintonex icon is now on the right side of the bt icon. that's where you have to exit it and do the above-mentioned steps. enabling the rt icon brings it back to the left side of the bt icon. when you have 3 icons (for me i have the animated today icon as well), you may want to do the above-mentioned steps and have the rintonex icon appear on the left-most of all the icons.
hope that helps.
2 pence worth

Well, I have found MTUX RingToneX is very good. I agree with you, there are some bugs in old version, but if you upgrade to 1.44, it is stable, no bugs, and works perfectly. I am very happy with it. I have used Version 1, which is unstable, and full of bugs.
Any way, new version (1.44) had taken care of the following issues:
Supporting Wave, Midi, Wma.
Vibration goes off even turn off vibration setting.
Recognize International Phone Number (not like older version)
Sometimes get default ringtone (had been fixed).
However, regarding Registration number of the software, it got to match your name (which you registered) and the one written in the "Owner Information" in the imate.

I also use RingToneX (v1.44) and find it stable and user friendly. Also works with the PocketZenPhone profile software I use. Combined they providfe the flexability I was looking for. Yes it is a shame they need to be purchased but they do work well.

SMS wakeup fixed on PPC2003PE

I made a small application (freeware in the first version) which allows you to fix the SMS feature of PPC2003PE.
You know: new SMS message arrived and only a short sound is played. The screen is black. (To be precise: your device was turn on to play the sound, but the screen was turn off - turn off the video buffer completely - to save battery. But I think in this way it is not working conveniently to read the message easy and useful.)
8)
Now your PPC PE device will wakup and display the SMS message popup bouble info. And you can read it right now!
You can free download:
http://geocities.com/myppcpe2003/PEFIX10FREE.zip
http://geocities.com/myppcpe2003/PEFIX10FREE.PPC2002.STRONGARM.cab
or from pocketgear.com (f.e. search for PPC2003PE)
This application displays a small icon on traybar, where you can access the options dialog or turn on/off the fix (SMS Wakeup). If you check the menu SMS Wakeup, your device will wakeup when the new SMS message arrived. Of course it will suspend again ion the time you set in general Settings/Power of your device. Then you can decide you can hide the icon and set it to auto-run after the soft-reset, so this application will work transparently.
On the home page, there is no descriptions or screens today. I will add it later when the shareware version will start (see the grayed options). Soon. I hope.
I'm awaiting any suggestions or comments: [email protected]
I 've tried it with 4.00.16 and it works fine. You rock! Thnx!
I like the fact that it keeps the screen off, but would love to fix another problem with message notification. Could you make it repeat the notification sound?
why?
why you want to repeat alert?
I tried PocketPlus which gives you repeatable sound alerts. But in the short time, I decided I did not wanted to use it in this way. Just because it disturbes me too much (for example when I'm on the meeting), or... if I use "infinitible" it can discharge battery.
Any way.
Simpliest solution, if you want bigger alert with more attentions, it is to use a longer and lounder sound file. You can set any sound file as your alert. Even with the play-time in minutes.
But.
Please check my program MY|PHONE|PROFILE.
It will give you more options to set alert files and action. You can use storage card to keep your sound files. You can change volume. And in the next version 5.0. it will give you the option to repeat alerts: 1, 3 or 5 times. I use: longer sound file in one Profile when I'm driving or shoping, and shorter sound file (just "gong once") when I'm on the meeting, and not sound at all but only vibrate when I'm on the cinema. To change the Profile - it is only the one touch of the screen.
Selly question will this work on PPC 3.17.03 PEFIX10FREE.PPC2002.STRONGARM.cab i notice it says PPC2002.
THX
thanks,
it is just my mistypped, but it works for PPC2003 only, of course
Just another question: I noticed that Phone Edition Fixes occurs in the list of actual apps. It is a bit inconvience, because if you select close all apps also the PEF will be closed. As look at Phonext which occurs in the taskbar, but doesnot occurs in the list of running apps.

In case I miss it. One of the things MS still hasn't fixed is that alerts don't play through the speaker if you have the headphones plugged in. Since it rings that way, obviously it is possible (any programmers want to take THAT on as a project?). So I miss things throughout the day since I leave the headphones plugged in while I do my business but don't always have them in my ears.
Does Pocket Plus repeat SMS alerts? I use SuperAlert, but it doesn't do those, just reminders.
Please check my program MY|PHONE|PROFILE.

I was one of the early testers over on PDAphonehome and just ended up with too many problems. I may give it another shot and see if it's stable now. I liked the idea.

For a work-related project we're working on, we are also very, very interested in making sounds come out of the speaker when the headphones are plugged in.

Multiple icons mode

Hello fellows,
When there's more than one "pending" icon near the clock, such as: new message arrived, phone call missed, speakerphone ON, etc. -- they are (expectedly) replaced by one icon that looks like a bubble with some lines in it.
It's great way to see there are many notifications waiting for you. When clicked, this icon displays another row with all the constituent icons.
However, with O2 1.72.187 image (without Blackberry support as I don't need it) there is a permanent O2 icon displayed. And the worst about it is -- it is treated just like it IS one of "pending notice" icons! So if you get a text message, you don't have cute envelope icon, but you have a BUBBLE already!
Previous versions allowed to move the O2 icon (centre or left), and it didn't count as notice, so "new message", or "Missed call" icon displayed as is - and only when you had let's say "new message" AND "missed call" you used to get the "composite" bubble icon. Now you can not do anything with O2 icon (it used to display connections menu), and it's just a piece of ****e sitting there for no reason.
That issue really ticks me off as I can't instantly see on the screen - what exactly has my XDA II received! The red LED on the top right corner is very helpful to indicate waiting things, and if I could somehow make that O2 icon to NOT count into pending icons -- or may be just bump up +1 the wrap limit for that place, so it would accomodate one more icon before wrapping into bubble icon, -- I'd be a happy camper.
Can it be done via registry?
Thank you for your attention!
Speach Bubble
I have the same frustration. Hoping that some wiszzard out there will be able to help

Speach Bubble

I looked into this thing with the O2 icon. Before the 1.72 release it used to allow selection of connection and to disconnect. It was also possible to position it elsewhere. Now all that is possible is to tap it and it brings up O2 Active. It sucks..
I found the registry entry that specifies the position of the icon, but altering it is useless because when ever O2 Active starts it changes the registry entry back to its 'middle' position setting. Sort of defeats the object of having the data in the registry in the first place! Even deleting the entry in the registry is no good as O2 Active re-creates it!.
I dont have the O2 Active burtton no more, i deleted it from the startup folder in windows and it doesnt load it up at start up, but if you click O2 Active then it shows up and you have to restart the xda2 again to get rid of it...
Thank you guys for your involvement.
I tried to just stop O2 app; it only could be cancelled with End Task, and the bloody icon still sat there, only this time doing nothing.
Seeing not much practical use in that "newfangled" O2 icon -- I thought I'll rather give up that interface at all.
Thank you dcs, it looks like they really deliberately locked things up to make it linger -- breaking the good thing and achieving the opposite effect. The old O2 app icon was a) useful; b) moveable between left corner & centre and c) didn't spoil the notifications count, so I didn't mind.
So I just went to add/remove programs and scrapped both O2 apps.
Then had to change background, as even after reboot there was ugly leftover on the screen (I think the right part remained transparent, ugh :evil. Finally it is all working fine now and I see what comes to my XDA2.
Enough time spent, mine and yours. It better be changed in next versions, or will be permanently kept out of my XDA-2.
<rant>Whoever designed that change just drove me off using the O2 app. (Talk about luring new customers?) I sincerely hope someone from O2 reads all the bitter words in this thread, and passes them to people responsible for packaging new OS versions. I like O2 as company, but the current state of O2 app is an abomination. (Also lots of referenced to paid services from the menu, but lack of free services)
By losing this app, there is no way I can subscribe to any of O2 "value-added" services. I have TomTom for realtime voice "satnav" and AvantGo for my news -- all with no rolling subscription fees.</rant>

Out of interest, just selecting a different theme in the Today settings clears the display problem (after uninstall) or prevents it from happening if done before uninstalling.

May be I had selected a wrong theme, (or may be the same theme and didn't realise it), but I had to also [x] "change background" checkbox. Then I selected the bright blue Default and that was it
Edit: "Change background" has nothing to do with background problem it's actually related to adjacent Browse button.
In fact there were only 4 Today themes that had this problem, all the rest of them worked fine. I presume they were old version or something.
Glad that you managed to solve the problem. However, mine continues as I use CommonTime mNotes to interface to Lotus Notes.
So whereas I has the speach bubble permanently on the today screen (sharing the frustration that I didn't know when I had received a missed call/SMS, revceived a new note etc), I now have a permanent 'M' symbol where the speach bubble originally was.
I really just want it blank and only to come up with a speach bubble where there is something new.
How do I get rid of the 'M'?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Prophet Eutopia

Okay, the Prophet is a great machine. I am getting used to WM5 and like it a lot. The Prophet is fast enough for normal business use, so no complaints.
I do have a wee list of things I would like to be able to do. Some might already have been cracked, so any help would be fab. (These also apply to Wizard and other WM5 devices.)
1) Button Lock
Pressing the power locks the buttons. All is well until you get a notification and then the buttons come alive and your pocket can take over and start dialling people!
Is there any software / reg fix to require a key combination. (I know about the code option, but that is tricky without the stylus.)
Good old Menu * on the Nokia is great!
2) Network info
Is there a simple and clean Today plugin / element that will show you the network name and the signal strength? I know there is commercial stuff out there, but I want something that is in keeping with the regular Today stuff and looks like it came with the machine!
3) Upcoming Events
Can you limit the number in the list. I like to know the next four appointments, but when I have a busy day (!) a scroll bar appears and looks ugly!!
As you can see, I am not that fussy!!
Any ideas appreciated.
1. Mort Saver, get it from www.sto-helit.de
2. DkToday, use the search to find it.
BTW, MortSaver also shows phone signal, but no operator name and only when activated. DKToday shows it in your today screen

Fixing all the little annoyances of the Wizard

There are several little annoying things that prevent the Wizard from being a perfect phone for me. Here is a list of all the annoying things I don't like the solution to them, if I have found one. If people post more solutions that work I will update this list.
1. The unit is way too slow.
Solution:
Install Omapclock and omapclockplus.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271012
Download that speedup.cab
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=261638
2. Insert Pauses in Dialing
Solution:
You can, in your contacts insert pauses in the number using a comma:
i.e. 123-4567 , 123
Does anyone know how to insert commas while dialing normally?
3. Lock the phone (to password screen) with a button combination (unsolved)
I mean lock as in the sense where you are at the enter code screen to unlock the phone to be able to use it. Normally I set mine to auto-lock after 15 mins, but what if I want to lock it right away?
I think I have done this by accident, as I pushed some buttons accidentally, and come back a few minutes later to find the device locked at the password screen.
4. Answering Machine (unsolved)
Some software to answer incoming calls and record a voice message. Though, this seems impossible due to what I read in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277314
"Due to a hardware limitation of the Wizard, WM5 does not have access to the incoming GSM Voicestream. WHat this means is that you cannot use a software answering machine on the HTC Wizard."
5. Windows Media player key mapping
Windows Media player works fine for me, as I use Windows Media player 11 on the desktop to create perfect playlists that are all converted and copied automagically on the device, Ipod style. I just select my playlist and go. The only problem, as most of you are aware it the inability to retain button mappings when the player is not on screen, and also the ability to only map the directional keypad.
Solution:
Use Pocket Player. It can successfully emulate the look, feel and functionality of Windows Media player, while adding all the missing features like the button mappings, crossfading, visualizations, equalizer. It even prevents the device from locking (to password screen) when you are playing a song.
5a. Windows Media player key mapping Headset button (unsolved)
Use the headset button to skip to next song and perhaps turn off the screen too.
6. Wifi while connected to USB
I want to have Skype logged in and running on my Wizard but still have it plugged in charging from my computer, as the wifi + skype drains battery like mad. The problem is that when I connect via USB, the wifi disconnects and reroutes from the computer. Skype, for some reason, cannot connect this way.
Solution:
In Activesync 4.5 go to File>Connection Settings>Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop.
A Workaround: Install a USB mass storage driver such as Softick Cardexport
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
or wm5torage
http://www.modaco.com/WM5torage-t238545.html
and set it to USB drive mode when you connect
7. Repeating Notification upon missed call or SMS
I currently use PhoneAlarm and it does the job.
8. Assign SMS tones to different people (unsolved)
How is this possible?
9. Simple Task Management (worked around)
I want to be able to access the control panels running programs list. Also, I want to kill all programs but WITH an exception list. I also don't want to have to install a whole other task manager with any more features than that.
Current workaround: Pin a shortcut in your start menu to the task manager
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276385
10. SMS chat
The Treo has a great feature in while all chats to and from one person are organized into a sort of "chat box" in a style like MSN messenger.
Solution:
http://www.trianglepowers.com/ppc6700/ViewApp.aspx?ID=37
While the program does it's job OK, it often crashes and you need the bloated .Net Mobile Framework installed as well. It also does not have the smart lookup function of the regular messaging program.
11. Use the unit as a USB drive
Solution:
Like mentioned above use
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
or wm5torage
http://www.modaco.com/WM5torage-t238545.html
12. Start a new calendar item and it changes focus after one letter typed. (unsolved)
When you try to type a calendar item, you type one letter then you lose the focus. You then have to click on the blank again.
13. SMS notification on top of any application (Unsolved)
I want, when I recieve an sms, for it to display a notification on top of whatever application I am using without clicking the mail icon.
Windows mobile 2003 had a cool bubble that popped up on top of whatever app you had. I think I had something like this working before, how can we do it again?
14. Loose stylus
After a while the stylus silo becomes loose and starts losing styli like they are going out of fashion.
Solution:
1 square inch of shopping bag plastic shoved in the hole or see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=247497&highlight=stylus+loose+wizard
-------------------------------------------
Here I will add other people's annoyances and fixes:
1. Store Email on the Storage Card
Qmail will run on the card and store all your emails there, as will npop. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...highlight=npop and other threads.
2.Prevent T-Mobile customization
You can prevent the installation of t-mobile customization after a hard reset. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=272613
4.Purge Deleted items easily (unsolved)
In Messaging, it takes EIGHT key presses to empty the deleted items folder. This is my second most frequent item pressed (to delete mail from the server) after send/receive.
5.The software keyboard pops up even when the regular keyboard is open, at least until a key is pressed.
Stop the software keyboard from popping up in Landscape mode:
Download this cab file and install it from the wiki.
6.The symbol X doesn't mean close

If adding commas acts as a pause how long is the actual pause? Is there anyone to use diferent pauses. The only reason I ask is I work with automated voice systems for work, and in order to "test" accounts I have to go through like 3 minutes of waiting.
I could really save time if there was a way to dial, pause, dial, pause, and so on.

Hi Phony,
3. Lock the phone with a button combination (unsolved)
is solved if you care to look at Molski`s website under:
http://www.molski.biz/mycabs.html
and there check the cab file for:
Molski.Biz VoiceDial Button Customizer stating:
This program installs the full versions of WM5torage 1.60 and DeviceLock,
including shortcuts for both programs and the DeviceLock Control Panel.
It remaps DeviceLock to hardware button 4, the VoiceDial button (single press).
It remaps WM5torage to hardware button 4, the VoiceDial button (long press/hold).
I made this program because I never use the VoiceDial or Record functions of the button, but I often use DeviceLock (and hate it to have it as an item on the Today Screen) and WM5torage and wanted some quick shortcuts to it (but not on the Today Screen...).
Hope this helps cause it works like a charm for me ;-)
Thanks to Molski !!!

I bought a 2gig memory card for my phone.. but I can't see anyway to make it store email on the memory card.
There is an option to store attachments on the memory card but not the emails themselves.
The phone has such a poxy in built memory that after installing programs and contacts etc. there is only 5-6mb left... this quickly gets clogged up to the point where in coming SMS, emails and new contacts can't be stored.
So I have a great situation of 2gig of memory, that is semi useless and an OS that doesn't seem to have been designed to integrate extra memory properly into the daily functions of the phone...
Anyone got any clues or addon softwares that might help ?
ALSO... was wondering if anyone knows a way to wipe the tmobile rom off the VARIO and install a plain one or K-Jam rom.... ?
ALSO .. never got that overclocking to stay.. as soon as the phone goes to sleep, it reclocks back to 180 again.....
one comma = 2 secs pause as far as I know

What is the devicelock program? What does it do?
alternative?
@richardq
have you tried installing the programs onto the storage card instead? There are relatively very few programs that really need to be installed on the internal storage.
Also, remember to store as much data (documents. media, etc) as possible on your card.
Btw according to some previous threads funky things can happen if you force messages to be store on the card.
Use a different program for mail

I have begun to add other peoples annoyances... hopefully we can have a huge fix list
On the issue of turning the phone into a storage device, some questions:
1. Does the Softick solution (Card Export), utilize USB 2.0, or just 1.1?
2. The chart on Softick's site say that it "works" for the HTC, while others are described as "works fine". There appears to be a difference. Anyone know what that difference is?
3. For either solution, does the software need to be installed on the PC? Or on the phone? I would see much less use for this if it has to be installed on the PC, as Activesync is proficient enough. The value to me would come from being able to access the storage while away from my own computers, and without having to set up a partnership.
edit: I see now that Card Export II needs only be installed on the phone.
Thanks!
Big annoyances
My pet peeves are:
Start a new calendar item and it changes focus after one letter typed. I can't believe this persists through updates to windows mobile.
In Messaging, it takes EIGHT key presses to empty the deleted items folder. This is my second most frequent item pressed (to delete mail from the server) after send/receive.
Occasionally, there is a ten second delay for the machine to respond to a start menu press, usually while something with wireless is going on. Why do I have lower status than wireless?
The software keyboard pops up even when the regular keyboard is open, at least until a key is pressed. I would like a setting that says "never pop up the soft keyboard, but leave it available if I press on it"

Funny you mention this - there was a WM developer blog post about this just last week. It at least explains the rationale behind the X itself and the way WM5 tries to manage memory for the user.
Link to post
One of my biggest annoyances:
WM5 is not smart enough to go into "dot mode" on number fields. For instance when choosing a time for an appointment, I cannot possibly want to enter text. When putting in a phone number, I probably do not want to enter text. It would be nice if you didn't have to hit the dot button to enter numbers in such fields.

I agree about the dot mode, especially because the Treo nailed this -- it was almost always in the right form, to the point where entering text in a new contact, it figured out that phone number fields should be numbers, names should be letters.
As to the close button explanation, it strikes me as hogwash. First, WM5 does NOT manage memory. One opens programs, eventually using up all the memory, at which point one gets an inadequate memory message, suggesting we close some programs. That is managing memory? But even if it did manage memory, how is it that WM5 uses the same symbol for a different action than Windows XP? The X in WM5 minimizes, an action symbolized by _ iin XP. It is as if they are trying to fool the user and make the device not work as expected.
(Preliminary reports suggest that Vista is going to do this same behavior -- confusing by using different symbols for the same action, and the same symbol for different actions, in distinct settings -- in a really effective manner.)

I want, when I recieve an sms, for it to display a notification on top of whatever application I am using.

Windows mobile 2003 had a cool bubble that popped up on top of whatever app you had. I think I had something like this working before, how can we do it again?

Few gripes with the HD2, can they be fixed?

Hi,
Only had my HD2 for a couple of days having come from iphone and have a couple of gripes with it. Maybe it's just me though as never had a windows phone before.
When using opera internet browser you have to zoom in quite a bit to press links, which I find a little annoying. I've tried skyfire which is much better, but you can't use pinch/zoom. Is there a browser that has the best of both worlds?
Is there a quick way to turn bluetooth on/off without having to go into settings?
Is there a quick link to profiles? I know if you hold the end call button you can select between vibrate or ringer, but not silent. I must admit, this is one thing I liked about the iphone, there was a simple switch to change from silent/ringer without having to turn the phone on and press buttons.
When making/receiving calls sometimes the screen comes back on and my ear presses other functions, or disconnects the call. Has there not been a fix for this issue yet?
The call quality isn't great, sometimes the caller distorts on certain words/letters
And finally, is there any way to change the vibrate? Can it be set to 'pulse' rather than just a continous vibration. Can it be set just to give one or 2 pulses when receiving a sms/mms message, rather than vibrating for the full length of the message alert? (I've personalised mine and goes on for about 10 seconds)
I think the phone is great, and these niggles aren't the most major of things (accept the screen turning back on during calls) but it would make the phone more of a pleasure to use.
Cheers
There are fixes or programs for most of your niggles, but they may not integrate with the HTC Sense interface! That's one downside of such a deeply coded front end, and one reason why I personally have stopped using it!
There is a file available which can allow links in Opera to be clicked when zoomed out- sorry, but I don't have time to link to it at present!
For profile and radio (BT/WiFi/Phone) switching, I'd recommend SBSH Phoneweaver . OK, it costs $15 but you can set any number of profiles with switching based on time, location, busy status etc, or manually. The pop-up menu also has a set of switches for the various radios. It can be launched via one of the 3 Program buttons on the front page of Sense, or via a small icon in the Taskbar. I'm, not sure if it can have the vibrate times defined or not!

Thanks for your response. What are you referring to when you say radios? Please forgive my ignorance, I'm still learning
You say that you have stopped using the HTC sense interface so what do you use instead?
Just having a look at the phoneweaver, can this be used with the sense interface? Does it overide the phone settings?
Radios = WiFi, Bluetooth and Phone Radio. These are the things you see in the Comm Manager with the little green On/Off sliders
I'm now using a 'Light' custom ROm without the HTC Sense stuff. I prefer to use a plain 'Home Screen' (which you can achieve by going into Settings/Home (or Today) and selecting the Items tab. From there you can turn on or off any of the Today items or Sense itself.
A lot of the programs I use have their own Today screen plug-ins which suits me fine- Resco Contact Manager, Elecont Weather and Chronos clock/alarms, plus I use a Launcher program called Launchpad by Panoramic Software that is opened by tapping the top left of the screen; this has 40 definable 'Favourites' links plus a full set of Programs/Settings links.
Back to work now!

It can take over all the phone settings and can be manual or scheduled, plus some other useful switching options. You can try it free for 15 days!

Thanks for that thread, the trouble is I'm not a real computer/phone buff (yet) and so a lot of it goes right over my head. I don't even know what registry's are, and wy you need to edit them???
Ok, the concept of registry is quite simple. I'll put in a way so anyone can understand. Its a repository of stored key/value pairs.
Imagine a folder like structure, when you open a folder you will find a series of keys which, when opened, reveal the value.
Every key/folder is used by the OS or by some application. Its where all the back door settings are stored. So if you wanna make an app or the OS behave in a way you need to change the settings.
Using the registry is easy, but you have to make the first step... so what are you waiting?

Can I bugger up the phone if I don't know what I'm doing?
You can always make a backup of the registry you are changing. In resco registry editor tap and hold and press export. If the changes you made are not good, go to the folder where you exported the backup and open it. It will automatically imported and problem solved. But if you follow the instructions you won't have any problems, just don't change the registry for something you don't know or never seen in any tip/suggestion.
You could affect stuff if you dont do it right... but if you follow the instructions carefully without any typing errors, you will be fine...
Use this to Turn off BT easily.... it also does a lot of other stuff... basically, your bottom left softkey will become an "action" button... prssing that will bring up the screen shown in the screenshots. Works really well for me... also give you soft reset options without opening the back cover or powering off
