I race a Grand Prix 250cc motorcycle and his it has a very trick race ignition which has the capability of downloading setup data etc..
Heres the problem...It has software which is only designed to run on Windows 95 and 98 upto and including SE....
My point is I have a laptop but its bulky and there are leads everywhere and as I have a XDA 2 I wondered if someone out there could adapt the software to run on Windows CE that the XDA 2 runs on....I already use the excel on the PDA to great effect....
Can anyone help....this is a vital piece of kit on my bike and I will supply tickets to any or all of the final 4 meetings of the year in the UK that I am racing at....
Heres the link if anyone wishes to try..

Many thanks Lee
Wow, a GP 250 bike. You have brass ones, my friend, I stand in awe.
Can't help you with the ignition module question, but I'd happily trade my left nut for a few laps on that bike.
take a look my friend
If you like race bikes have a look at my website..

in the mean time can anyone help?
Is this for static programming or does it adjust your timing/ignition on the move while detecting other changes in engine system?
The main purpose is to download the data picked up from the wheel speed
sensors and the detonation reading on each cylinder. ( there are 2 ) also there are 2 tempreture sensors....
This is done static.....but once I have the information I need to ie humidity density air presure etc and take the cylinder heads of then I can take a reading from the piston crowns and jet the bike to suit......
Once this is done I can modify the ignition maps and upload the new or modified maps to the ECU and away we go!
In the Practice or race I have a switch on the left hand bar to switch between 4 different ignition maps depending on circumstances or weather.
Hope this helps.
Just wondered...
For me its too big as a phone. My BA is just about as big as I like. I normally wear jeans and don't carry a briefcase of a "man-bag"!!!
Im wondering, does anyone here use it as a pure, connected PDA and have a different phone for voice and texts?
If so, which phone do you use?
How do you fit wallet, phone and Uni about your person?
I'd love to use it more but for the mo, i just use my BA and have the Uni as a mini laptop....
Maybe I'll just wait for the hermes but i'd miss the vga and the full size sd card!
p.s. pse dont flame me with another "why did u get it if you know its so big" rant. I got it free and would love to use it more. Just looking for practical suggestions!

If it rings, I put it to my ear. It's not too big as a phone. Or, now that I'm sorted for bluetooth stereo and MS Voice, I make a call by pressing a button and saying the name. Easy peasy.
I keep wallet and all else about myperson using my backpack, which is with me 95% of the time.
Making, receiving calls (with BT headset)
Browsing & sending emails, while commuting (as now) or at home over wifi if the missus has the laptop
Playing music on the move
Watching films on the train
Organising my life using Pocket Brezee
Remembering all my friends' phone numbers
Taking reasonable pictures of life's happenings
ok it's not the smallest phone around and wont go into a jeans pocket, but it's not too large to fit in a jacket or combats pocket and does virtually everything I need in one. (would prefer an external screen for easier calling though)
oh, and even though I don't carry a "man-bag", since I mostly travel by motorcycle, I'm normally wearing a jacket that's got pockets big enough to carry the thing.

brave move! i trashed a blue angel on (off, actually) a husqvarna!!!! lol!
I'll be getting mine within the next couple of days thanks to work.
The points which justified getting one when all but the lucky few are stuck with crappy Nokia 6310s is to review WM5/Exchange & Blackberry as an e-mail solution for senior management (have my own XDA2i) and also test out RDPing to work's network for out of office support.
The uses that didn't get mentioned to management are using it as a MP3/WMA/Divx/Xvid player; checking the footie scores; using it as a calendar, phone book and voice recorder (lousy memory) and basically because I just wanted a new toy
I didn't find the size of the XDA a problem and I expect this will also fit snuggly in the inside pocket of my jacket. I enjoy the versitility of these devices and expect my SPV M5000 will just be more so.
I use it as a phone, PDA, MP3 player(4GB SD), portable video player, hand held games console and digital camera!
I think if someone is willing to carry both a universal and a separate phone for voice/text, they should just carry a universal and a reliable bt headset (still two devices, but at least all info is carried on one device). Then the universal won't seem so big as a phone. I actually feel like the universal is not as bad holding to my ear as my nokia 9500.
Well I use the jasjar for everything I did my mini and more. I dont think its too big as a phone, its slightly bigger than most, okay I grant that but ive had mine for little under a month and ive adapted to the weight of it.
Personally I love it for phone calls, best clarity on both ends I have ever seen in a mobile. And sms and emails are easy as now, with the keyboard.
I wear jeans or a suit depending on if im working or not, and I fit my jasjar in one pocket, and wallet and keys into the other no worries.
I use mine for games, music, calls, pda, organisation, e-reader, email, limited surfing, and not a high priority but this units additional camera features are handy.

Can I say that you are the man or can I say that you are the man!!!
I was looking forward to buy a huge SD card for my SPV M5000, but what I had in mind that I am getting a 1GB card, because I read somewhere else that over that, device gets very slow in reading it's files, or sometimes it does not work at all, now, you say FOUR GB, this made me more than you will ever know, so please mate, can you give me more information about it's maker & model & price & your personal experience with it PLEASE!!!
Thank you LOADS!

I guess my signature shows allready how I use my Universal.
For me it's just to cumbersome to be a phone, but it can be a reasonable micro notebook/tablet. Browsing (Opera), notes (PhatPad) and also office (Text Maker, Plan Maker) in Full VGA is nice, and coupled with BT mouse quite usable.
Now that I have ACU2 ROM with A2DP, it's going to get even more use, as media player - I'm just not sure if current 1Gb card is going to be enough...
As for PDA stuff (contacts, calendar, mail... and also ) this is handeled by Wizard quite nicely.
Phone/PDA/MP3 player/Video Player
I don't use a camera much, but I've got it in case I need one.
I don't think I'd play games on it (except maybe Solitaire)
Train journeys just shoot by (no pun intended) when watching Die Hard 8)
using ClearVue Pro, it's my mini laptop ... and happened to have a phone capabilities too 8) ... with a decent BT headset, you only need a toilet in the nearby to live for a week without a complaint
Music, Emails, phone calls, web browsing, texting etc... pretty much everything which I do on my desktop beside games
oh yeah - I forgot about the games.
Pocket UFO and SpaceTrader so far (can't get Elite to work. )
For me it’s a wonderful multimedia working toll.
With my 2 SD card I almost forget to use my home PC!
To use as a phone it’s huge, but it stills fits in my pocket!

This is the card I bought. It cost me £62 with the postage costs. It's super fast compared to my old card with no problems.
Wouldnt it be great if someone made a mini bluetooth handset that you could dial from? Universal stays in pocket but you only need to touch a little candybar (say, 100mm* 50mm*10mm) to make a phone call! I guess that would be the best solution for me!!
Does such a device exist? maybe i could cannibalize a bt headset to make one!!! lol!!!
I use mine to organise and remember all my meetings for the week. Great for updating my report at the end of the month. Also used for GPS mapping and storing all my important information in eWallet.
I use mine on my belt with a pouch style case. Took a while to find one out here in the Far East as nearly all where book style which I hate.
Finally found this one out here... Not sure if available in Europe, but this is a Hong Kong website.

Is quite a big phone but I like the features and PDA use. The smaller PDA based phones are difficult to use the on screen keyboard with. The Universal is that much bigger so less change of errors.

Can I ask how long did it take to arrive from the US of A?! (I mean after you made the transaction)
Thanx V.Much Mate!
I bought mine as a replacement for entertainment on the train to work to replace an SPV500 but found I am using it more for work and less for entertainment
I use it for:
Phone and text
Watching Movies
Listening to Music
Writing Reports
Reading Documentation (PDF and CHM)
Catching up on email
Regional Weather reports
Remote Controling Servers and Workstations
Google Searches.
As for the size, I bought a new coat for work and a jacket for home with inside pockets large enough to accomodate. I was slightly embaressed using it as a phone at first, but whilst using it as a Laptop on the train and then closing it up and bringing it to my ear when the phone rings, complete strangers are always asking what it is and where they can get one instead of carting a heavy laptop to work everyday. I would be lost without it!
Hi all,
I'm relatively new to the WinMo programming, but so far I've been able to capture and process the Gsensor data, but I can't seem to understand how to use the GPS data.
I want an app that will record the GPS position along with all of the Gsensor data so that I can record the route and have data for each point that contains lean angle, acceleration, deceleration, etc. I figure I'll have to have the Gsensor fill in for some of the GPS data and vice-versa.
Why you ask?
Well, let's say you put it in a suspension test mode. You could accelerate gradually and brake. Hopefully the gsensor could catch the dive and bobble of the bike and give you some feedback. Knowing how far you are leaning in some turns is nice. You could possible detect and calculate if you are sliding at all. Perhaps you could even calculate the power output if you included the weight. You could make a mode that would yell at you if you get the front wheel too far off the ground, etc. I think there are all kinds of fun things to do. I know there are expensive and half solutions out there, but having an opensource solution would be nifty.
I'm a relative noob with C# and I'm using SharpDevelop. If anyone has any suggestions for things to implement or can help me acquire and use the GPS data I'd appreciate it.
If this sounds like a dumb idea I can always abandon it too.
Thanks guys.
lol, actually I think its a cool idea to be able to log what your doing. And maybe a top speed via the GPS. I think that would be a really cool app to have when I ride.

I don't think its a "practical" idea, not dumb, but for learning how to code and stuff, its a great idea. I'm assuming you enjoy riding at the track, so that'd keep you motivated to continue the app development.
There are already similar apps, but I don't know if they will detect lean angle and brake dive.
That's the first thing I thought of when I saw this app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424423
I haven't played with it, but maybe it could give you something to start with.
Check this out too
http://www.racechrono.com/
The newest SpeedoHealer has a top speed recall on it, and its only $100 for the whole system. Much less than having to buy a WM phone just to record top speeds.
Most of us need one of those anyway, but if you could make your app work in conjunction with that system.. could be very useful.
Especially for the initial calibration. Get the correct GPS speed from the phone, and then get on the SH website from the phone for the correct calibration code! Or find a way to integrate the SH code program thing into your app. so you don't have to get online for the code. That would be very useful for gearing changes at bike nights when the dyno is unavailable.
But you could load some track maps in it, have the thing record acc/dec at which points at each corner. Then you could see where you started braking at, and decide if you need to brake sooner and softer, or later and harder.
Maybe if (lets hope not) you go down, you could see how much decel. at what angle caused the loss of control.
Think you could set it up to calibrate the 2 axis independantly?
set the side to side while on a stand, then remove the stand and calibrate the front to back when loaded with the rider at static sag, cuz its going to change from when its on the stand and the stand is the only way you're going to get anything close to accurate verticle calibration, but the front to back will be off with the back wheel raised.
Where you thinking of mounting the phone to the bar/tripple clamps?
or under the tail?
I think I'd be afraid of losing such an expensive piece of equipment if it was mounted upfront. But you can't see anything on the screen under the tail.
Unless you didn't want it to display anything, just collect data.
Not that you'd be able to do much screen touching with gloves on anyway.
Better use large buttons! lol
Do you think you could setup the light sensor to determine if a headlight bulb is getting old? I don't know if the sensor will work when flooded with that much direct light.
Well anyway, just a few ideas for ya.
I don't ride at the track, but I'd like to test the app out when you get a working beta going.
I'm sure it could have its uses on the street.
And I know the speedo is off on my 08 Busa.

Thanks for the input. Until I can find some help on the GPS aspect of it I'm kinda idling.
I'm thinking...
When you start the app you will have to have it mounted and be on the bike. There will be a calibrate button which you will press when you are centered. From there on out you can pick a mode.
Your busa better not have any chrome on it. =/
Keep it up!
Very cool idea! I actually experimented with an analog 'curve counter' mounted to my motorcycle several years ago. Built a box with a steel ball inside that rode along a curved piece of metal and made contact closure with a terminal on each end - different viscosities of oil provided the dampening to keep it from bouncing around. This was coupled to an electronic counter that I built from a kit. It was kinda cool, but a pain to get mounted.
I don't have the experience to lend for application development, but I would certainly be willing to test any versions of the app you would like.
FYI - right now I use Run.GPS for tracking but would love to have lean angle and acceleration/deceleration data to go along with it. The only glitch with lean angle is that I assume the centrifugal force during cornering would prevent the accelerometer from reading the true lean angle...maybe some calculations could compensate.
go for it!
my hayabusa, my tp2 and I would be happy to be in your test team ;-)
and BTW, I am a veteran C# developer, so let me know if I can help.
(experienced in C#, but not in Win-Mo or HTC hardware)
Hi,
It never happened to my Shift before but I never travelled with it till now.
I used to use the Shift in UK with no issues but I am on holiday in Rio (38 degrees Celcius right now) and every time I use the Shift it gets very hot to keep it on my lap.
Once, it shut itself down with no warning and I thought it was the battery but it was not. Then I noticed that, while on my lap, the vents were been covered and now I cannot find a position to hold it that is comfortable and does not block the vents. And holding it up in the air for long periods of time is not comfortable (I am very little!) and if I want to use the keyboard I have to use it on a desk or table which makes it not a very mobile option.
I wish designers would think of such things as vent positioning when designing essential parts of equipment. It would save so much grief!
Does it happen to anybody else, or is it just me?
Thanks from very, very hot Rio.
Overheated Shift
Happened to mine for the first time ever, had it on my lap,
airvents probably covered, and kapfiewwww it shuts down
to completely off.
Now I discovered my headphone jack doesn't work, when
I plug in earpieces, the sound shuts down trough the
speakers, but no rerouted sound to the headphones, pull it out,
speakers give normal sound again... strange...
Anybody ever had this?
Kind regards from a snowy Belgium
Freakydile
just happened exactly like woven. luckily it has overheat control
yeah same here just learned to keep it vented most of the time the protective case it comes with dose well with this
My solution!
It happened to me when I tried to use it on a irregular surface like a bed. As everyone has figured out, the ventilation areas are blocked and the device seems to have no alternative but to suddenly shut down... At first, I got surprised but then I eventually found a solution:
Now I simply use it with my proporta leather case, since it has custom designed holes that allow ventilation (and a couple of plastic furniture feet I decided to glue one day), creating enough space between any surface and the actual device...
Another solution if you rather want to hook it to a big monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse, is a glass table and no case...
Ohh by the way, leaving it on inside a bag pack also causes it to overheat, unless it is on WinMo only!!
Try using yr shift sitting on top of a rectangular plastic tray , ( u can get it at any supermarket anywhere , bring yr shift to test it out first before buying ) , the tray's height is about 2 to 3 inches high , it is best using it on yr table , but for lap or bed , then u need some balancing act - cheers - jimmunsw
