XP Pro PC won't connect to http sites - Networking

Hi All
It seems since I applied SP2 for Win XP pro, when my i-Mate is in the cradle IE on the XP PC will not connect to any http sites. It will connect to https and ftp. As soon as you remove the i-mate from the cradle you can get to the http sites.
Anyone with any ideas?
Kind regards
Alan

SP2 has a more enhanced firewall application turned on by default. Not sure why having your i-mate connected would cause http traffic to be interrupted, but who knows.
Try going to Control Panel...Windows Security Center and turn off the firewall protection temporarily. If http browsing now works with your i-mate connected you're going to need to look at the firewall settings to see why it is blocking traffic.
If it doesn't work... Don't know I'm afraid. After installing SP2 the new firewall function should have asked you about ActiveSync and whether it should block or unblock network access for this application. Did you get this? The answer should have been UNBLOCK to ensure ActiveSync wasn't prevented from doing it's thing by the new firewall software.
I haven't encountered any problems so far after installing SP2 over the weekend on my laptop - Windows XP Home.

I disabled the firewall before doing anything and don't use it as I have a hardware firewall. It didn't ask about unblocking Activesync but my device wasn't connected.

Can´t connect my wizard with active sync 4.1

hello people
i´ve got a problem with my Activ Sync...
If i want to connect my wizard with my Notebook nothing happend.
i don´t know what´s the problem, because at the beginning there are no problems, but after a hard-reset there´s no connection.
Sorry about my english, it isn`t very good (i´am german ! But I hope someone helps me ...
Here are some informations about my system: Win XP with Active Sync 4.1 and a VPA compact 2 :?: :? [/b]
I have had similar issues with ActiveSync before, and usually what you will end up doing is reinstalling the ActiveSync version that you have on both your laptop and your Wizard. Are you getting any messages at all when you dock your device? Does ActiveSync display a message saying "Trying to connect" or "Looking for device"?
thanks...
the problem was a hub. i had a hub between the wizard and the laptop. without the hub the connection is possible and the problem isn´t there.
but on my desktop, (no hub between desktop and wizard) there´s the problem still existing. the desktop try to connect and search a connection, but... there isn´t any connection...
Troubleshooting ActiveSync is a pain, isn't it? OK, I have a couple of things you can try...hopefully one of them will work...
1. If you have a firewall running (and yes, believe it or not Windows firewall can even be an issue), it needs to be configured to allow ActiveSync applications to work. For that, you'll need to consult the software provider's manual or their web site. Most of them have already identified this as a problem.
2. If you have partnered to this desktop before, make sure that the partnership names haven't changed. In other words your laptop is calling your wizard by the same name as your desktop.
3. Are you running a home network? I think I saw this in another post here, that VPN clients can be an issue because the computer is viewing your mobile hookup as a network connection. Uninstalling the clients can sometimes provide the cure.
I hope that this helps.
shaker,
please ensure you have XP Service Pack 2 on both machines.
ciao!

Activesync Problem

Can anbody help me on activesync problem for my WM5 machine Dopod818Pro?
After connecting with my device, program kept 'Connecting' without localizing the partnership with my company laptop? I have already turned off Sygate firewall, but it was not successful to install Partnership!!

Disable your native XP SP2 firewall too. Also, check if you have AV software that could be blocking it. Uninstall and reinstall activesycn on a drive different from the earlier one.
This should be able to sort it out.
Do you have the latest version of Activesync? (4.1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/activesync41.mspx
I have already installed with 4.1 version. The problem seemed to be solved. This was due to Sygate that has blocked the sychronization with PocketPC device.
But how can I synchronize with my company Notebook and my home Desktop PC with the same 818Pro? I need to sychronize all info with my home PC and only browse PDA using my company Laptop? Can I do that?
How?
Thanks!

Probably a port issue
You probably need to open up specific ports that Activesync is using. They are listed on threads here if you search.
same problem....and i have no firewall running.
MDA vario connection is not working
MDA Pro is working well
I have already solved the problem by disable Sygate Firewall software used by my company.
But how can I synchonize the device with home Desktop and company Laptop together? Both of them need not to synchonize all of the data.
Thanks!

Cingular 8125 syncing problem

It's Probably Your Firewall
I use Trend Micro and I had to create new rules for the firewall. The link below will hopefully get you going in the right direction.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/default.mspx
thanks for the help
that link was kinda useful, but im still having problems which i think are related to my firewall software. i use kaspersky anti hacker and i have allowed all the processes for activesync in the firewall setup, but i think its the ports that im havin difficulties with. anyone with expierence with this firewall please help!
Cingular 8125 Sync Issue
I have the Cingular 8125.
One thing I can say is that the Sync between the 8125 and ActiveSync is buggy. For instance, It keeps wiping out my favorites bookmarks on my system when doing a bi-directional sync. - wierd.
Anyways, After playing around with this phone for a few weeks, I do know that ActiveSync uses TCPIP via USB to communicate with the 8125. My suggestion is to temporarily disable any and all firewalls and see if it syncs up. When I plug my phone in I get a new network adapter that shows up and obtains an IP address from nowhere (169.254.2.2) as my systems are firewalled from the internet entirely and I don't run DHCP on my network.
I suggest the following:
1) See if Windows see a new network adapter when you plug in the 8125.
2) Disable all firewalls from that adapter.
3) Establish a firewall ruleset allowing data for both your local private network subnet (10.1.0.0/255.0.0.0, 172.16.0.0/255.255.0.0, 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0) and the 8125 network subnet (169.254.2.0/255.255.255.0)
4) When the phone is connected, it shows up in "My Computer" as "Mobile Device".
Hope this helps.

Same problem
I have the same problem with TyTN e Windows Vista/XP... And I have no idea about the way to solve it!
The strange thing is that happens only with TyTN and not with MTeoR!

"Internet pass-through" fails connecting to the internet

Hi All, new here
I keep getting "Data Connectivity Problem - The server failed to communicate.Try again later" error when trying to connect to my home PC through "Internet pass-through". "Internet pass-through" seems to connect fine to the PC, but then fails to connect to the internet through it, even if the Symantec Firewall is totally off.
On the other hand, no such problem when connecting through "Internet pass-through" to my work PC. The phone connects to the PC and Internet with no problem.
I guess the differences are because of a different internet connection type in work and home. Not sure what the connection type at work, but my PC at home uses a VPN dial-up of type "L2TP IPSec VPN".
Is there anything I should configure in this connection to be able to connect to the internet?
Current OS is Android 2.2.1, stock ROM, no tweaks.
*BUMP*
Anyone..?
I think you need HTC Sync installed on your computer(s) before you can use them for internet pass-through on your Desire HD.
I had this problem too on one of my laptops and my work PC but installing HTC Sync did the trick. You can get it from the HTC website.
Of course, and I do have its latest version 3.0.5511 installed on my Home PC, but still not luck.
I know it seems dumb because I doubt you use it but check your windows firewall. I have had it cause problems for me when it reactivated itself, after not being turned on in over a year, when I turned off Symantec firewall. Take a look at least.

Yes, as mentioned in my first post - "Internet pass-through" seems to connect fine to the PC, but then fails to connect to the internet through it, even if the Symantec Firewall is totally off."
I've disabled Symantec Firewall by right-clicking its task bar icon, and selecting "Disable Symantec Endpoint protection Small business Edition" -shouldn't this be enough?
[SOLVED] by Microsoft TCP/IP fix
I've downloaded the following TCP/IP fix from Microsoft, installed it on my Windows XP SP3, restarted my PC, connected my DHD, and that's it - "Internet pass-through" is now connecting successfully! with no additional configurations.
Download the fix from here:
