Dialer Skins
From the O2 Active screen, go Tools>View>Dialer Skin. I use the Windows 'original skin' because the buttons are easier to see in the car (none of those infernal bubbles...!)
Gadget 8)
where is the O2 Active screen?
DAMN u lot are the best!!!! u no everything! thanks u very much most aperciated! and the o2 active screen is the screen when u tap the o2 on the top of the pda
how do i change it without goin to o2 active as 1 one of them i uninstalled all o2 stuff!...this may b pushing my luck but how do i 1) chnage the alarm volume and/or change it 2) change the rintone to play and mp3 rather than having to use a inferior wav file?!
i'm sorry, i can't find O2 on top of the PDA. where exactly is this?
okay go to start and it should be on the list of programs but it will be called o2 active
When you get bored with the default skins, I have some you can have for free. All details etc on my site.

I used the free program that creates your own dialer skin for free. You can change the opacity of the buttons or no buttons at all, just the numbers. It's very customizeable.
Dialpad Maker by Bong, search on Pocketgear. That's what I used.

Is it possibile to personalize it (links, items, etc.) ? How ?
Thanks,
I very much doubt it - it's an appallingly written piece of software - total junk.
Try changing the background picture - yep O2 didn't even bother using masked images!
Best thing you can do is uninstall it - OK you'll loose profiles and the ability to change the phone skin, but I can live without these features.

Profile selection is still possible - I actually added the link to Ultra Profiler to my "Today" menu.
For changing the phone skin, there's a freeware tool called "XDA Phone Skin Chooser", see www.designlab.de. I wouldn't want to have to live with that stupid O2 skin...

OK I have spent a lonley evening searching the forum for the answer on this - if its here I am sorry i cant find it - on my (new today) xda IIi there is an o2 Icon on the task bar - it sits in the most troublesome of places and covers up parts of program headings - it must be simple enough but I canot work out how to get rid of it - I have searched for the icon file itself to get the name and search for a value in the reg but no avail - please help - someone - anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!
o2 icon
hi,
browse to the windows startup menu and it should be under connections, delete that shortcut and voila.....................
thank you somuch -
that was doing my brain in - what possesed them eh? - tell me that!!!!!
once again - thnks- it was the only thing PISSING ME OFF SO FAR
o2 icon
no probs........here 2 help
You can actually just tap and hold for a second or so on the icon, and a menu appears with a slide bar...letting you move the icon wherever you want it, that's if you want to keep it anyway.
I just cancelled the install of that all that O2 Active rubbish.
As I've stated before in here, I quite like the version that's on the 2i as it allows you to have different themes without it looking crap. Some of the features on this version are quite useful as well.
I've always wanted a screen that makes use of all aspects of the screen as it would a normal Nokia mobile, for example with battery life up the side and signal strength up the other, with some space to actually show the picture you've chosen.
I don't suppose anyone's found anything like that recently have they? I gave up looking 6 months ago!
Cheers

New Update of O2 Connections
New Update of O2 Connections...
Forgot the thread here...
I have been staring at the WiKi pages etc.. trying to understand it all.
I have a Vario 2 and would like to change the menu layout, especially the front sceen e.g having shortcuts on it.
Can someone tell me is it a case of just changing the ROM to a different make i.e HTC or O2.
Sorry if this seems a silly question, but I don't wanna brick my device doing the wrong thing
Thanks
In order to change the layout of your today screen, you need various 3rd party apps and today plugins (what you need depends on what you want to do) ...
YOU DO NOT NEED TO CHANGE YOUR ROM TO DO IT
Thanks for the quick reply, I am not sure if you are familiar with the T-mobile layout, but I would like shortcuts to frequently used applications as icons on the desktop, I have looked into the setting of the Vario2 but all you can do is change the launch buttons in the start menu, also other things for example wireless strength etc..
Looks like TMo Vario II is the TyTN/Hermes .. You can use SPB Pocket Plus or iLauncher to put shortcuts to apps on your today screen ..

You should take a look at spb pocket plus. Good for making shortcuts on your today screen.
I have a Vario II and got rid of the t-mobile today plug-in, that's just annoying.

Dear Blobstrom
You can do all kinds of weird and wonderful things with your today screen to make it better for you to use.
I can recommend 2 main applications spb pocket plus, and sbsh ilauncher.
they are quite similar in many ways, and both have things to recommend them.
both offer free trials so you can see which one you get on best with, both offer support forums, so if you get stuck you can get help both from other users and from their software teams.
I'm sure there are other apps out there too, but I have used both of these and think they are both really good.
Thanks for ya help folks
Bob
Might need more though,
I had a quick go with SPB pocket plus and Wisbar.
But!
Iwant something to get rid of the other parts of the desktop, that is
Date
Owner
Tasks
etc..
I would like a kind off blank canvas or at least just icons instead of all the writing,
Thats why I think I may have to go the route of changing the ROM

If you wish to disable the other plug-ins:
Start> Settings> Personal> Today> Items> deselect the items that you do not wish to appear on the today screen.
Oh for crying out loud
Pillock of the century here
OK with that gone and SPB I maybe sorted
how do i add tasks to my today page?
i have a vodaphone vpa compact III and the only things on the today page are...
the date
upcomming appoinments
sms
email
how can i add owner info to the today page as well?
thanks in advance for the help guys, really appriciate it.
jason
Have you even read your manual?
Those options should be available under settings >> Today Screen.
Also do some light reading all these basic answers should be available in a short google search.
i'm very sorry.
i did go to settings >> Today Screen. but i cant add anything...
all i see is
date
vodafone calendar
vodafone sms
vodafone mms
vodafone email
do i have to hold down somewhere or click somewhere to add "active tasks"
or can i not because its vodaphone branded? i cant seem to add "owner information" either
i know this sounds stupid but i really cant seem to add it...
thanks for your help in advance
jason
Looks like you have some heavy vodaphone customisation. The options you have are not standard and tasks is normally available to choose. You have a few choices with varying degrees of difficlulty.
Flash ROM to non vodaphone branded one (not for the novice)
Investigate which registry keys affect today screen items, and make changes (moderate difficulty)
Install a third pary application that shows tasks - (simple)
Wait for someone with a vodaphone device to come up with an alternative (suitable for the easy going!)
Mike
Go for the thrid party softwares
Even if you change the registry you will never get rid of the operator's customisations
I've got Wisbar Advance Deskstop and Wisbar Tool
there is plenty of other's, check out the SBP range, its quite good
and all are very user friendly with plenty of skin cutomisation and stuff
Try the rltoday plugin, it free and see how you go
http://rotlaus-software.de/projects/rltoday
thanks rickyjune and mikechannon.
i;ve gone and got spb pocket plus but it just aint as good as having it on the today page
maybe i'll read up and attempt to put windows 6 on it
thanks again!
spb pocket plus are for experts
that was a bold step man
but that something to work up to, try wisbar then the desktop
and there are so many deskstop theme on the forum that you can upload
I've got 3 today screen thanx to the desktop
Have you changed your today theme away from the vodaphone one to a windows standard one to see if you can then change your items?
Have been modifying TP2 with many registry changes etc. Running WM6.1
However, seem to have "lost" part of the standard dialer and have trolled through the forums trying to find what files and .dll are being used by the DEFAULT dialler.
The HTC dialler works fine but I do not like it, so when swapping back to the default dialer, the buttons and keys are there, but where the list of previous numbers should be is just a grey area with no entries. Selecting any area WILL bring up the call record as normal.
I must have deleted\edited\corrupted something..........but even looking through back-ups, can not find a clue!
Otherwise, any clues on JUST a plug in dialer (everything I find seems to be a full package with today and other stuff) - I like the dialler on the TYTN2 - both for size and colour and am trying to replicate this if possible.
Colours and size are good for tapping when driving as here in UK must NOT hold a phone as illegal!
ANy clues on files/which registry keys hold the colours for the HTC keypad etc. would be useful as doesn't seem to be HKLM\security\phone\skin
