O2 Active interface on XDAII - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Is it possibile to personalize it (links, items, etc.) ? How ?
Thanks,

I very much doubt it - it's an appallingly written piece of software - total junk.
Try changing the background picture - yep O2 didn't even bother using masked images!
Best thing you can do is uninstall it - OK you'll loose profiles and the ability to change the phone skin, but I can live without these features.

Profile selection is still possible - I actually added the link to Ultra Profiler to my "Today" menu.
For changing the phone skin, there's a freeware tool called "XDA Phone Skin Chooser", see www.designlab.de. I wouldn't want to have to live with that stupid O2 skin...

i am sooo confused how to changer the dialer skins whihc i came across when i was playing around my XDA2! i found there are two skins 1 from o2 and the other the microsoft one, how can i change the skins of the phone dialer?! any help will be appericated
Dialer Skins
From the O2 Active screen, go Tools>View>Dialer Skin. I use the Windows 'original skin' because the buttons are easier to see in the car (none of those infernal bubbles...!)
Gadget 8)
where is the O2 Active screen?
DAMN u lot are the best!!!! u no everything! thanks u very much most aperciated! and the o2 active screen is the screen when u tap the o2 on the top of the pda
how do i change it without goin to o2 active as 1 one of them i uninstalled all o2 stuff!...this may b pushing my luck but how do i 1) chnage the alarm volume and/or change it 2) change the rintone to play and mp3 rather than having to use a inferior wav file?!
i'm sorry, i can't find O2 on top of the PDA. where exactly is this?
okay go to start and it should be on the list of programs but it will be called o2 active
When you get bored with the default skins, I have some you can have for free. All details etc on my site.

I used the free program that creates your own dialer skin for free. You can change the opacity of the buttons or no buttons at all, just the numbers. It's very customizeable.
Dialpad Maker by Bong, search on Pocketgear. That's what I used.

WM5 Themes "Origami Suite" (ROM 2.17 or higher)

Have you ever taken a look at the gallery section over on www.origamiproject.com ? It's filled with a bunch of pretty nice-looking wallpapers for UMPCs, but UMPCs aren't available until much later, rendering these small wallpapers useless... until now. I've picked ten different images from that gallery and customized themes for each of them (creating eleven themes total). I also enhanced the themes to fit in with a somewhat universal layout for the today screen.
Keep in mind that these themes are designed for Wizard users with the latest Qtek ROM (2.17 or higher) installed! The reason I say this is because the date on the today screen takes up two lines in the newer ROM, and the today screen background reflects the position of the date bar. If you're confused, take a look at the previews below, you'll see what I mean.
Anyway, as I was saying before, each theme has carefully selected colors to best match their backgrounds, and all of them work in both portrait and landscape mode. I tried my hardest to smooth out the gradients that sometimes give problems on PPC screens. Oh, and I also thought of a cheezy name for each one. The previews along with a ZIP of all the themes are attached to this post, so go crazy. And if you haven't updated to the latest ROM yet, shame on you. Go do it, you won't regret it.
P.S. - If anybody knows how to skin the Phone screen (where you dial the number and everything), PLEASE let me know. It really, really clashes with a lot of these themes...
AND... if anybody knows how to make the date take up only one line, move the clock to the top, and put the battery back at the bottom, that would be amazing. That way I could re-make all these themes so that they could work with EVERYBODY that has a WM5 device!
very nice. just applied the first theme on my exec
Great job with the themes! I hope you are able to find out about skinning the phone screen and reducing the Date Bar to one line.
Beautiful yanathin! Thanks for putting the effort into these great themes.
very clean look you have going on there.
Are those icons along the bottom just regular shortcuts? If so I'm gonna have to look into how to do that myself.
great work!
Thanks for the compliments everybody! Yes, the bottom basically acts like SBSH iLauncher or SPB Pocket Plus's launcher. It's a single part of the PHM PowerToys ( http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/PowerToys/ ) called "TrayLaunch." You'd be utterly amazed at how fast this device runs WITHOUT SPB Pocket Plus installed, even without a "real" close button.
Amazing themes and even better work yanathin!!
Yes great work !
Thanks
Really nice ones, allready installed, thx !
change background dialpad
I haven't found a way to change the keys of the dialpad yet but i have a simple way to change the background of your dialpad in combination with plain darkgrey keys:
Download the attached file and run it on your mobile to get the darkgrey "keys" from Vodafone, these keys match best with whatever background you want to use:
(file is also at: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Misc/Vodafone_dialpad.zip)
Next you create in MS Paint / Photoshop or whatever program you like, two BMP image files with the following properties, you can use any file as background.
- name: "Bkgnd_Port.bmp" / resolution: 240x268 pixels (portrait)
- name: "Bkgnd_Land.bmp" / resolution: 320x188 pixels (landscape)
Copy these files to the \windows folder on your mobile and overwrite the existing vodafone skin.
After a soft-reset your dialpad has changed!
I changed mine to plain gray:
I love those themes!
for dialpad skins, take a look at http://www.zombienexus.net/
thanks for sharing. here's a link to some of my simple themes.

As far as i know it's a cab from German Vodafone. It works perfectly with my Dutch NL ROM, therefor i think it should also work with a WWE ROM because it just gets the language of the ROM-version.

Newbie needs help with screen layout

I have been staring at the WiKi pages etc.. trying to understand it all.
I have a Vario 2 and would like to change the menu layout, especially the front sceen e.g having shortcuts on it.
Can someone tell me is it a case of just changing the ROM to a different make i.e HTC or O2.
Sorry if this seems a silly question, but I don't wanna brick my device doing the wrong thing
Thanks
In order to change the layout of your today screen, you need various 3rd party apps and today plugins (what you need depends on what you want to do) ...
YOU DO NOT NEED TO CHANGE YOUR ROM TO DO IT
Thanks for the quick reply, I am not sure if you are familiar with the T-mobile layout, but I would like shortcuts to frequently used applications as icons on the desktop, I have looked into the setting of the Vario2 but all you can do is change the launch buttons in the start menu, also other things for example wireless strength etc..
Looks like TMo Vario II is the TyTN/Hermes .. You can use SPB Pocket Plus or iLauncher to put shortcuts to apps on your today screen ..

You should take a look at spb pocket plus. Good for making shortcuts on your today screen.
I have a Vario II and got rid of the t-mobile today plug-in, that's just annoying.

Dear Blobstrom
You can do all kinds of weird and wonderful things with your today screen to make it better for you to use.
I can recommend 2 main applications spb pocket plus, and sbsh ilauncher.
they are quite similar in many ways, and both have things to recommend them.
both offer free trials so you can see which one you get on best with, both offer support forums, so if you get stuck you can get help both from other users and from their software teams.
I'm sure there are other apps out there too, but I have used both of these and think they are both really good.
Thanks for ya help folks
Bob
Might need more though,
I had a quick go with SPB pocket plus and Wisbar.
But!
Iwant something to get rid of the other parts of the desktop, that is
Date
Owner
Tasks
etc..
I would like a kind off blank canvas or at least just icons instead of all the writing,
Thats why I think I may have to go the route of changing the ROM

If you wish to disable the other plug-ins:
Start> Settings> Personal> Today> Items> deselect the items that you do not wish to appear on the today screen.
Oh for crying out loud
Pillock of the century here
OK with that gone and SPB I maybe sorted

wow nice app! thanks a lot!!
Really nice app!
I just thought of a nice thing to add to this app.
How about an option to load a specific panel on startup? number 1-9
I only use spb mobile shell panel now and it would be cool if it actually started automatically on reboot.

Hopefully it's just a matter of throwing a specific cmd-line parameter to the PanelManager.exe (a link to this app is in the phones autostart-folder)..Right now the link has the parameter /Boot. I'm trying to figure something out, maybe it's possible, maybe it's not!

Is an uninstall of a previous version required?
Not required, but it's recommended if you don't want duplicate posts in the uninstall programs menu
Have a look at the Diamond Tweak prog. I installed this to have a play with, and there's a setting to change the volume level. It works!

music through the headphones is now painfully loud
volume level it`s only a registry key. its the same on all devices.

Am I the only one that I like the window today screen??

To be honest, I tried the touch flo 3d, the home 2, but the only thing I like is the normal, clean windows mobile today screen i like it, its neat , organized, and the xperia wallpaper gives it an elegant look. I alos modified the left menu key to initiate a new sms
what do u think?
I like it's neat clean look, but I prefer using the SE Today Panel.

Same here, a big fan of Winmo Today screen. When I jumped ship from Palm OS to Winmo, the Today screen really makes me forget I ever had a Palm OS device... Although the fond memories of rock hard stability creeps out now and then.
Currently Using itje's incredible Touch-IT v4.5 ROM. The Touchflo is nice, but more of a gimmick then anything else... Give me plain old Today screen anytime.
It just seems easier on the Today screen, that's why I have a lite rom installed, along with TF3d and panels.
I tend to always end up back at the default today screen. Something just nice about it.
Yeah I use it all the time now as it seems to be the most customisable without being fiddley and does all I want it too... I would like a today that is a combination of several of the panels but so far have found nothing that I like more than the normal today...
i use the today screen as my default screen when at work as i like to be in control of how many appointments are displayed, reminders, etc. it's nice to be able to switch to another panel for the weekends though ...
i'm a bit concerned about some of the screenshots for wm 6.5. does the today screen still exist ?
The standard Today just works. Give you access to what a PDA is for, PIM. There is a plugin called TodayAgenda which makes it perfect though.
glad you guys think the same way
btw, any idea how to make a shortcut for the start button? I downloaded a program, H button, that enables me to long press a key and a program comes up... but i want to access the start menu that way

Are you trying to assign a hardware key to Start Menu? If so, go to Start>Settings>Buttons
All this talk is making me want to use the Today panel more! I just tweaked it a little bit and I'm going to give it a try next week.
Does anybody know of a way to get more programs on it? Skype is on the list, and I think TomTom is, but I'd like a couple others.
I need to use the today screen to see the G-Alarm plugin, how much Internet traffic I had this month (SPB Wireless). Also I find it very convenient to use Elecont Dialer (a scrollable row of contacts to call or sms) and Elecont Launcher (a scrollable row of apps).
So I usually end up using it, even if SPB Shell is more touch-friendly. It just doesn't display all the information I need in one screen.
I always seem to go back to the spb panel as my default. its simple and looks clean i think compared with tf3d and point ui. im hopeing that when the new 3.0 shell comes out that it wont replace the spb x1 panel (although i know it will).
I've tried all the panels, shells etc. You name them, I've tried them. As said before, the Touch-IT v4.5 ROM is nice, but gimmicky. I admit I've installed it, but only to get GPS tagging of photos. I untick it in Start -> Settings -> Today -> Items immediately after it's installed.
I appreciate all the work that's gone into developing it, but its way too busy for me
My preferred interface is iFonz 2. The interface can be as simple or as 'busy' as you like. I prefer to have just a few icons of the programs I use regularly on screen as well as icons for the frequently called contacts. Also its very finger friendly.
For the programs that I use infrequently, it's no hassle to find them in Start -> Programs, and contacts are easy to find in iContacts

Hey friends, I'm with you. I think the today screen is one of the best inventions of Microsoft and is really underrated. It just makes sense to have active plugins share the most precious place on a mobile - the information screen after switching the device on. I think the iPhone is ridiculous in this regardö - just showing icons of the programs that can be launched is lame. Also, there are really powerful plugins available for Windows Mobile. I'm personally using the built in date/time and messages plugin together with PocketBreeze for all the organizer stuff and PocketPlus for system status (battery, memory), finger friendly app launcher and additional plugins as tab (spb weather actuall). Then I use the system tray as quicklaunch and for showing the currently selected phone profile from PhoneWeaver and my softkeys start Contacts and WM5NewMenu, with which I can very quickly place a new appointment, SMS, Email, Note and so on. With this setup, I can really use the device, not only play. Everything is just one or two clicks/actions away and I always have a good overview of what's going on.
I really don't understand why so many people want a better iPhone instead of a good Windows Mobile device. Windows Mobile has drawbacks but also strong points, of which the today screen is one of the strongest I think.
I am also a big fan of the Windows today page. I think it's the only one that can be entirely adapted to everyone's need, all other software are nice graphically, but not as effective as a well prepared today page.
