Hi everyone,
finally, after reading many posts of people experiencing strange behaviour from their XDA2, I have finally joined the club!
Two things have happened in the last week that I cannot explain, so I'm hoping that one of you has experienced the same things and, more importantly, found a solution!
Firstly, Windows Media Player refuses to open. When I try to access it (whether through the programs menu or a shortcut through "Battery Pack Pro") the word "Start" at the top of the today screen briefly changes to "Windows Media", but then immediately switches back to "Start". I have deleted all media that i had, but no difference. Soft reset has not helped
Secondly, the small Bluetooth icon that is situated at the bottom right of the today screen (the command bar) has suddenly dissappeared. This is no big deal, as I can access a shortcut to it through "Battery Pack Pro", but its still a mystery and would prefer it to be where it was! Soft reset has not helped
Has anyone experienced these issues?
Many thanks in advance
<bump> Anyone?
Has anyone had a problem with Media Player not starting or the Bluetooth icon in the bottom right hand corner of the today screen disappearing?
If yes, how did you fix it?
Thanks

Sorry if this has been discussed before, I'm a veteran Xda-er having had 3 I's ( I lose them!) and now a II (love it) but I'm new to this forum lark!!
On the menu bar at the very top of the screen on occasion an icon appears that I cannot identify in any of the documentation.
The icon seems to appear at randon times, and on soft reset, sometimes disappearing almost imediately sometimes lingering for several seconds. The only way to descibe it is as a small head and shoulders icon with a cross inside and a curved 'telephone' below to the left! Sorry for the rubbish description, but hopefully someone will know what I mean, I have attached a pic.
if someone could let me know what (if anything) it means that'd be great, cheers
lee
As far as I know it means you cannot make a voice call whilst that is displayed i.e. when you are downloading over GPRS it seems to come up. I might be wrong but I'm sure thats what it is
seems to make sense
cheers
This is the program icon of IA CallerID.
Right, and that it pops up every now and then is just damn useless...

hi guys
i thought it was something to do with the memory because when it comes up the phone is very slow to respond.

Hi folks!
Got some strange stripes in the upper part of the screen above time and signalstrength symbols. Does anybody know how to get rid of it!
Thanx

If it's a single row of dots across the top, aren't they the Battery meter that's part of SBP Pocket Plus?
dots
Don't know,I have those dots too and had them before installing SPB.
That's the task battery indicator.. It tells you how much battery you still have. If you don't want it, just tap and hold the upper right part, press "options", and uncheck the "task battery indicator"..
By the way just incase you still don't know this.. If ever you're running WM2003SE you might want to tap and hold the upper right part, press on the "close button", click on the "feature options", click on the "Exceptions", click "add", select "browse", then go to windows and search on the "tmail.exe" then select it. This will disable the double sending of SMS to your recipient.
cheers

Hi rollyblu,
It was exactly like you said, i unchecked the task battery indicator and gone was the "problem".
However i do not seem to have the problem with doublesended SMS messages.
Thanks alot people for all the quick answers
from reading around in the forum and some other forums. I see that alot are using SPB pocket plus. however i also read that this app cannot (well not yet atleast) display storage card memory anyway so i wrote spb and they say they are working on it and that this may be solved in the next release.
my question is this. can you make a shortcut for BT on SPB pocketplus today plug-in? you see my BT icon is missing from the bottom. I use omegaone battpack pro and added a BT icon as a shortcut. however I would like to switch to spb pocket plus because it has tabs, and it has more features (internet explorer stuff, and it is skinnable)!!! I just don't know how to make a custom link to bluetooth? can anyone help me with this? thanks in advance
Hey I got my XDA Exec this morning which I'm really please about, been using it for a couple of hours but for some reason the clock has disappeared from the title bar in the today screen and I can't get it back!
Does anyone know what might have happened, about the only thing I've got installed is Pocket Plus 3.
Infact i've noticed that the volume icon is gone too, but if i click where it should be the pop-up appears for me to change the volume levels.
It's like there is something covering these two icons and it's driving me mad, having the time visible there is about one of the most useful things
This is a common problem
This happened to me too. It was caused by the O2 software. If you do a search on this site using the words "clock missing" there have been many posts on this subject and the solutions of how to remove the O2 software are posted too.
The O2 interface also seems to slow up the machine and cause a lot of freezing requiring a soft reset. My machine has been tons better since removing it.
If you decide that you would rather have the clock than the O2 software (and most people do) and decide to remove it, remember first of all to save your phone and GPRS setting to your filestore! This can save you a lot of time. If you like the 02 today screen theme then you could save this too.
Also I recommend that you make a backup first so that you can go back to how you are now if you need to.
Good Luck
Open the clock and you should find an extra tab at the bottom called - "More" select that and a new option appears Display the clock on the title bar in all programs.
Neither of those options worked, in the end I hard resetted the device and set it up in corporate mode I found using a PIN I got by just searching google! No more O2 Active anywhere, and I've got my clock back! I'd only had the device a few hours so luckily it didn't take too long to set everything back up how it was before hand The only thing I had to do was manually set up the GPRS connection again but that was simple enough since I already had all the settings saved
Dunno what's going on, but on my MDA I can't see the volume icon or 1/2 of the Tmobile Signal icon on the top of the screen. I don't have anything running that should interfere with it. Any ideas? Anyone seen this on their system?
Kick...
I have exactly the same problem, but also the time isn't visible anymore.
I didn't found a solutions yet. I only can remember that I had MagicButton installed, but I removed it yesterday.
Any help wil be very appreciated!
Best regards,
Peter
Sorry if this is no help, I am a noob but may offer the following.
I hadn't noticed the problem you have described but after installing 'registry wizard' I noticed that my top bar had a display 'problem'
It was as you described with a blank space and half an icon missing.
I gave a soft reset and it helped. I then went back into 'registry wizard' and found the option corresponding to the top bar
Turning the function off has restored the bar back to its normality.
I am not sure if it was this software as I hadn't taken any real notice but it's just a thought.

No problem. The actual description is on the Tweaks 2 menu and is Taskbar Date/Time
I unchecked the box and it's now ok as far as I can tell. Like I say, I have only just got the pda and didn't really take that much notice of how it was before I installed the software.
MODERATORS: Sorry but I have no idea why my post has appeared twice more!! I know I only submitted once. If it's only me that can see it as my computer is being naughty, I apologise.

The same thing happened to me yesterday - the clock and half of the sygnal strength indicator disappeared. Unfortunately, I could not trace the reason as I was installing various applications then. I know for sure that I had registry wizard installed at that stage.
Yup, it's Reg Wizard. I had to recheck the 'clock on taskbar' option, and now all is good. Glad to hear I wasn't goin' crazy!
Hi All,
I've tried various search strings looking for an answer to my issue but found nothing related. Anyone else have an intermittent problem whereby pressing softkey for "Messaging" yields no body or list, only a title bar and softkey menu as normal? When it occurs, I just see the Today Screen where either the message contents or list of messages should be displayed. After some fumbling and clicking around I can usually get the content/list to appear. I only noticed this problem when I first loaded summiter's ROM but now I have the official Cingular ROM loaded and problem still exists.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or solutions.
can you access the messaging if you go through the start menu or do you have the same problem there??
is your soft key mapped right to the messaging link?
softkey mapped
Thanks for response, yes, softkey is mapped; as I mentioned earlier, when you launch messaging, I get only the top and bottom elements of the program (Title, New, Menu) but the middle content (message, list of) is missing)--you see only the Today Screen in foreground.
It happened to me as well once I started to force 'exit' on all the apps instead of just minimizing them. Part of Pocket Plus close button.
I'm not sure if this is the same case as you are experiencing but it looks like after the Messaging program is completely terminating, the softkey cannot launch the complete program. I was still able to launch it from the start menu with no problems (sounds very strange, I know).
The way I recovered from that is to put the "Messaging" program in the exception list of the close program; this way it stays in memory and I get the messaging complete program every time I press the softkey now.
I *Hope* that helps...
maybe???
interesting thought... well, i don't use that program BUT i am using smartkey and that likely shares the same process SO i will try that from now on after soft-reset and report back...
Thanks for the tip! It's definitely one of those hard to track down the cause kind of issues, how did you come about that as a solution?
