Laptop internet access via XDA 2 GPRS using Bluetooth - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I'm going on holiday shortly and my wife would like to be able to surf the internet on our laptop using the XDA 2 GPRS connection over Bluetooth.
How do I set things up to allow this?
I have a samsung laptop with a TDK USB BT dongle. My XDA 2 is successfully accessing GPRS on the Orange UK network. Im using WIN XP.
I have searched the forums, but only seem to get one page of search results regardless of the number of pages found. So apologies if this has already been answered somewhere else.
Regards,
mike_m

XDAII AND DIAL-UP

hi there ,ive just had a search on this forum on how to set this up but i cant really find anything?
anyway here goes what i would like to do is use my laptops dial-up internet connection from my xdaii via bluetooth? ive managed to get the devices talking but i dont really know how to set-up the xda from there to access my internet account?
do i need to have my laptop connected to the internet first then connect via bluetooth or does my laptop just need to be powered up?
Do you mean that you want to browse the net on your XDA II through your lappie?
Due to the current Bluetooth stack on the XDA II, the only way to do this via Bluetooth is to set up ActiveSync via Bluetooth, then use the passthrough functionality of ActiveSync (which is sort of like using a proxy server - just make sure you enable the 'this network connects to the internet' option under your 'work' network on the XDA, and enable passthrough in ActiveSync.
There's a few good posts on setting up the connection, so do a search on this forum for 'bluetooth' and 'activesync'.
Finally I got it all done using my xdaII as modem and bluetooth for bridges...accessing from my laptop to surf the net.
Procedures are on the offical xda site, but then u do need a Bluetooth tool kit and set it as modem during bonding.

Missing apps?! - Where is my Bluetooth Manager

Hi,
Just bought a bluetooth USB dongle, what i am trying to do is to connect my XDAII to the internet through my PC's ADSL line.
I found a very useful website which has screen graps that showing how to configure both PC and XDA. however, I don't have Bluetooth Manager installed or what, as this tutorial keep asking me to run it from my xda!!!!

all I got is bluetooth settings, and screens are look very different, what's going on? can somebody instruct. cheers
As far as I know, Bluethooth Manager is a propriatary Ipaq thingy, and is not available for XDAII
i just connect to activsync and let my xda go my pc's internet connection that way connect using bluetooth that is
I often use that method too, but a lot of the pages I try to access come up with "page could not be read" error, even though they're fine if I access through gprs etc.
Any idea why?

There is NO difference between using a proper phoned based GPRS connection to the web, and a PC Pass-thru...
Apart from one that is...
Some sites are proxied, and check for a connection to the site by a carrier connection using themselves.
Let me explain better by example...
With Orange, some sites get blocked by a proxy or whatever, if you use a standard web connection to them from another ISP, but will be allowed access using GPRS and their own network.

Wi-Fi > Wizard > Laptop Valid Noob question

Hi folks, seeing as I have just obtained a wizard (o2 XDA mini), I thought I'd have a snoop around and join a forum or two.
The thread question is this:
I have a laptop, it has no built in connectivity.
I have the wizard, it has wi-fi and bluetooth.
Would it be possible to connect my laptop via bluetooth to the wizard which would then allow me to access wireless internet?
I have searched on here and found the same sort of question but with no replies.
I don't know what software, if any, is available to do this but surely it must be possible. I know I could browse with the wizard but if I could get the wi-fi data out via bluetooth, it would be great.
Thanks peeps, great forum. I have learnt quite alot already and I've only had the pda a couple of days.
Anybody???
I don't know about bluetooth connectivity between the wizard and the the laptop, for one you will need to get a Bluetooth adapter/dongle for your laptop to connect to the wizard.
However you can use the wizard linked via usb to laptop and use the Edge/GPRS to surf on the laptop. That's called tethering. And i'm sure there's a How to FAQ somewhere on here or over at HowardForums.

Yeah, tethering is one solution. I am a coach driver and as such have long boring days of doing asically nothing. I have upgraded from a Nokia 7610 which I used to connect to my laptop via a BT dingle and use the GPRS modem that way.
The main point is that GPRS is expensive and if I can find a Wi-Fi AP, could I connect to the net through that in the same way that I would use the GPRS connection.
Not sure where you're going Jerry. Wouldn't it be simpler if Wi Fi is available to get a USB or PCMCIA WiFi card for the laptop?
I suppose it would. It was just a thought as in 'If I can do it, why spend more money?'
Then again, PCMCIA Wi-Fi cards a cheap enough I suppose.
 Anything for free

problems connecting via gprs on xda mini s

Hi,
I CAN connect my xda mini s using wi-fi at home, but whilst out & about i CANNOT connect to the web using GPRS. I have checked the setting in this forum & else where on the net, including o2's site, but still i cannot connect using GPRS. I am on o2 PAYG & i have read in places on the net that you can only connect to full internet access, using 'mobileweb' if you are on an o2 contract but with my last phone (nokia N80) i had no problems connecting via wi-fi at home & GPRS while i was out. I could even send & receive emails etc on my nokia n80 but for some reason on my xda mini s, it wont let me connect to the net using GPRS. Does anybody have any idea's what i could do to try & sort this problem out, as i need to be able to connect to the net whilst at home (wi-fi) & while i am out?
cheers
Ive found a thread on how to connect xda mini s on o2 PAYG using GPRS...

Can I surf the net on my Xda using my imac bluetooth connection?

Hiya, bit of a strange one this. I have an iMac at work with built in Bluetooth. What I'd like to do is surf the net on my Xda Trion using a Bluetooth link to my network-connected iMac.
I've tried going into the Xda in System, connections and trying to change the My ISP connection to use Bluetooth, but it doesn't want to accept it. I know the Mac can see my device but as yet whenever I fire up Pocket Internet Explorer it just uses 3G and GPRS to connect; in fact I see no option to surf using a Bluetooth connection.
I suppose in summary then, I want to use my iMac as one big Bluetooth Modem for my Xda. Is this possible and if so what am I doing wrong?
