If thats a MDA III .... then what on earth is this then? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I recently saw the MDA III advert on the T-Mobile Site:-
http://www.t-mobile.net/CDA/tmd_mda_iii,20,,newsid-3146,en.html?w=1075&h=847
However, when I went to www.pocketpc.com, I also so this similar looking, yet inferior device known as the CU928:-
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmob...y.aspx?module=deviceDisplay;PPCPhone;apac;103
SO WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS, WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?
Is the MDA III officially the successor to the XDA/MDA II ? Or is T-Mobile taking a side-step ?
Amir

Its the same thing

Well Id ont know what you guys are talking about. To me it looks like the same thing.
How did T-mobile do this side step? How are those phones on those links different?

mda3 is also sold as qtek9090

Anyone know where qtek are selling these the video ive just seen of it is amazing.
Edit its got landscape mode ~~~

Can someone reply soon as Im thinking of getting one

that mean it got 2003SE

I dont think MDA3 means the same as XDA3. So the answer is no.
My question is though, how the hell is that the Wallaby? It looks totally different and has a sliding keyboard?

xda1 and mda1 were the same
xda2 and mda2 were the same
Wallaby is xda1
the one with the QWERTY sliding keyboard is called mda3 and qtek9090
and possibly xda3 and imate2 if they also deside to release the new pda phone from HTC

Maybe the device info screen says its running on the video says:
ROM version: 0.99.00 ENG
ROM date: 06/09/04
Radio version: 0.91.00
Protocol version: 1337.27
ExtROM version: 0.99.116

O2 are not going to releasing that phone as the XDA3... instead an HTC made XDA3 will be released next year.. or so I've heard!

the name of mda2 qtek9090 is
Blue Angel
btw

CU928 is special designed for Chinese UNICOM, of CDMA 1X network.

Whoo hoo 4.00.21 success! :-)

OK.. so I am new, and excited. I have had alot happen to my trusty old tmobile pocket pc phone over the last two days.
First, I got it unlocked by tmobile two days ago and then switched to ATT. Big big plus for me here where I live as my tmobile service would not work at home, SMS and voicemail notifications were rarely recieved. So far so good with ATT, in fact I get the notifications almost instantly, and I have FULL service with ATT at my home now.
Ok.. then yesterday and today I got interested in the idea of upgrading to the 2003 software. Went ahead and bit the bullet and did it. So far so good. I am now running:
ROM Version: 4.00.21 ENG
ROM Date: 8/11/03
Radio Version: 6.18.00
Protocol Version: 324e4
I have not noticed any real issues yet. I have noticed that it locked up on me once when changing a theme I believe. But I did a soft reset and the change was made, I then changed it to another theme to test and no problem.
I dont seem to have the sliding backlight settings I noticed some where else. But I do think like the signal bar meter better as it is clearer now to the eye when you have even one bar. As well as love the mute, and the dual volume slider.
I thought I read there was a higher version radio stack some where, but I have to find that again.
All in all very happy. Happy with the new ROM and tools and forums made available by XDA-Developers, happy with ATT service and hope to be reporting back more good news in the future.
ok.. figured out the sliding backlight
I guess I got confused and thought the sliding backlight control I saw was related to the 2003 ROM, when in fact I guess it was seen by me on the XDA version 2. So, that clears that up for me.
Now to just get the newest radio stack...

No problem on the radio stack, I just need confirmation on what network you're on AT&T or T-Mobile so I'll know which stack to send.
Also I'll need an email address to send to, PM me on that.
BTW good work on the upgrade.
thank
OK.. radio is now updated to A.20.10 which should be the latest ATT radio version correct ? I have noticed one odd thing about after I upgraded to the ATT radio is that it no longer says what network I am connected to as it did with the tmobile radio.
I also noticed something stange with the 2003 software and GPRS. Seems there is no "end" option to end the GPRS connection.
All in all I am pleasantly surprised about how easy and smooth all has gone in doing all of this. I like the always connected GPRS.
thanks
Yes you are correct A.20.10 is the latest ATT radio stack!
Good obs on noticing that the AT&T stack doesn't show what network you're using, it was also the first thing I noticed too!
Yea the only way to end GPRS now its to press the Red phone button or buy Spb GPRS Monitor

As far as upgrading to Pocket PC Phone edition 2003 you can build your own from Jeff's kitchen at:
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/ROMkitchen/
or you can download it from Yorch's web site at:
http://www.yorch.net
Note: its located under software.
BTW what radio stack does your SX56 currently have if its less than A.20.10 you'll want to upgrade that too?

Qtek V1640 and Comparison Guide

Can someone tell me what the Qtek V1640 is?
I have been looking on the web and can't really find any information about it in English.
I've been looking to upgrade my O2 XDA II to an HTC Universal and have found that Vodafone are able to supply the V1640 which they believe to be the same as the Qtek 9000 which I can see from trawling through loads of info is the same as the XDA Exec (or almost).
Does this mean the V1640 is the same device?
Is it the same spec or is it a cut down version?
Does someone have a comparison sheet available for all the different versions of the HTC Universal?
Hi there,
I left Vodafone recently to get an O2 Exec. Their retentions team promised me they could get me a Qtek 1640V which they repeatedly promised was their name for a Qtek 9000, ie an HTC Universal. I spoke to loads of different people and they all promised the same thing.
So, I waited (lots of mistakes over delivery) and waited and eventually I received a Qtek 16*20* V... which is an HTC Blue Angel. Furious, I called up... everyone now insistent that the 1640 is unavailable from Vodafone.
Got my Exec now and it's beautiful, just beautiful.
My advice? Avoid vodafone if you want to ever get your hands on a Universal.
Matt S.
Hi Matt
Yeah I read your post before posting this one.
I orginally was with O2 but there service was appalling so I moved across to Vodafone I've had some serious difficulties with Vodafone in the past but persistence paid off and they are now very VERY helpful... In fact much more so than O2 every were so doubt I will ever go back to O2.
I know Vodafone are preparing the full launch of the product so they are likely to be suffering supply problems just now before they do.
Before they do and before I spend my free upgrade on the VP1640 I want to make sure it is up to spec.
Do you or does anyone else have any more information that can shed light on the VP1640 please?
Anyone can help out on this?
Received the V1640. Nice looking device.
Photo's to follow shortly.
In fact received 2 One for myself and another for my partner.
I can confirm I have a V1640, took me telling me they did them before i got one, but it is definatelty a Universal!

T-Mobile release the next MDA Vario update

Been waiting for this git for AGES :-
http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/download_manager_mda_vario.html
RUU_Prodigy_2210206_22102109_021911_TMO_UK_WWE_Ship.exe
I'm going to install it later on tonight !!!!!!!!!!!!
ahh thats good......
I was disappointed that my ROM rip didn't achieve what I had hoped, but now you get the full monty!!
Cool. Any idea's what been tweaked, added, fixed etc?
Anyone tried this yet? Any perfomance boosts?
Also, does anyone have any links to any more info on the update?
this is a silly question, but i keep getting confused. Are the "vario" devices the same as the "MDA" in the US? i have the US T-Mobile "MDA" but not sure if it is a VARIO or VARIO PRO, I, II, etc.
i'd like to download the official tmo rom for my device with msfp but so far i can't find it, so i'm just using one of the custom roms for now.
second question, the http://t-mobile.iris-global.com website, is there an equivalent US website?
thanks.
man did a hard reset last night, will have to do one tonight too!!! well soods law!!!
well, just done mine, and the first thing it noticed is that the battery icon in teh top right is now green, where as it was white like the otehr icons. Any idea how to change it back, it looks ugly!
why am i still seeing
RUU_Prodigy_1060204_105_11210_TMO_UK_Ship.exe?
very strange, even when i click download its the above file.
im not to bothered really anyway, im happy with the Mr Clean 2.3 rom for the moment!

Just got off the phone with T-mobile US tech support and the answer is NO. The update is only for UK and German T-mobile users. T-mobile US will NOT support the update. However, the tech told me they are testing the new OS update for US, but there isn't a release date set as yet.
BTW the MDA in US is called MDA II or HTC or I-mate something...
I have just upgraded to the new ROM and the other problem I've found so far is that the camera seems to ignore the 'night' mode now and just treats it like 'auto' mode, i.e. pictures taken indoors are practically black.
DAMN and still no support for AKU2 BB Connect..........wtf
does anyone know why they have pulled the update and has anyone downloaded it and can put the file on the FTP? email if you do [email protected]
Edit : Just came back on

If anyone can suggest a fix for this problem I'd very much appreciate it. It's like it's ignoring whatever exposure settings it has :?
@bryanparke: as a wiseman once said, the only silly question is the one not asked!
The T-mobile US MDA is indeed the equivalent of the european MDA Vario.
They are both based on the wizard design by HTC.
@everyone else: Now that t-mobile have released the AKU2 rom, lets see how much they charge for the privilege of using it. Lets Hope it's cheaper than orange!

Huh ... it's a free download.
not the download, the service - orange have set their roms so the push email goes through another APN so they can charge you extra for the privilege of push email!
I don't see how they can differentiate however the only thing I can think of is if you were to be using orange e-mail ... if you have access to an exchange 2003 sp2 server (or online equivalent) then wouldn't it just be a gprs connection.

no wifi on t mobile ?

if the rom from t mobile was reflashed with another rom would that give t mobile customers there wifi back working or is it a hardware saveing. ?????
if it cant be done then its o2 for me, hell
This is probably the millionth time this is discussed in this board

How to identify T-Mobile MDA model type.

I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum area or not. I'm trying to identify the correct model of my T-Mobile MDA.
I was trying to buy a serial cable for my device and was told that the MDA, MDA II, and MDA III all use a 22 pin connecter while the newer MDA uses the mini USB.
What is the proper model identifier for my phone? How can I determine this?
In System -> About -> Version it shows I'm running Windows Mobile 5 and the processor id is OMAP850-195MHz
Vince
Ok, this phone was purchased in the US.
On startup the screen displays:
IPL 2.26
SPL 2.26
GSM 02.25.11
OS 2.26.10.2
Settings -> System -> Device Information -> Identity. See if you are having 'WIZAxxx' at your Model No.
The MDA here in the US uses a standard mini-USB plug.

Yes I see now where it shows WIZA200. Looks like I'm in the right forum at least.
This helps to know the Model Number. Is there also an AKA "street name" that people associate with this phone too? What I'm trying to determine is when I'm looking at products it seems the general T-Mobile MDA designation is insufficient.

I understand, but most of the time I see literature that says support for T-Mobile MDA. Maybe I haven't noticed T-Mobile Wizard because the product literature I received when I bought the phone said I have the T-Mobile MDA. I'm just trying to determine how to distinguish which MDA phones advertisements are talking about.

HTC is the manufacturer of your phone and all the phones you'll see on this website. HTC's "in-house" name for your phone was/is the Wizard. However, the wireless carriers that purchase the phone from HTC brand it differently. The carrier phones will often look slightly different and may have one or two internal components that are added or taken away.
In the USA, there are two different versions of HTC's Wizard, they are the T-Mobile MDA and the Cingular 8125. These two particular devices are identical on the inside, but their outer casings are different.
I hope that clarifies things a bit better for you.

You can try picking your phone out of the lineup here:
http://mobile.yahoo.com/go/phones?os=wm
My tmobile MDA ended up being the tmobile mda vario.
you can also check the information on the wiki...they have a list of the alternative names that the Wizard (aka MDA) goes by.

I'm using an MDA Wizard with a Cingular AT&T sim card. Are there any changes that I should make as I update this phone that included advantages to updates from ATT rather than T-Mobile (which I've never used or planned to).
I know I need to do some updates. Suggestions?
