Hi guys,
I'm having an issue with my digitizer on my 8125. I am wondering if anyone has experienced this, and if anyone knows of any workaround, short of sending the unit back.
After the unit has been great for a month (summiter's 2.17), all of a sudden, when I use the stylus in teh lowe right corner of the screen, it senses the pressure about 3 milimeters to the left.
Therefore, it's almost impossible to use the right scroll bar, if that makes any sense.
I realigned the screen.
It was fine for about 30 minutes.
Same problem.
Reset.
Fine for a bit.
Then same problem.
Now, I bit the bullet, and did a hard reset.
It was running so nicely, but I had no choice.
The digitizer was fine for about 30 minutes.
I was pretty happy...
And now... SAME problem.
Only in the bottom right of the screen, like usual.
Has anyone heard of this?
AFTER a hard reset, before installing apps???
If you think there is a solution, please let me know.
If it's a case of back-to-Cingular... So be it..
...but I figured i would ask the pros before sending it in!
Thanks!
Mike
I have the same problem, though I haven't managed to do a hard reset yet. (Does anybody know how to back up text messages without using an all in one backup program, because I want to rebuild anyway)??
My screen seems to be okay for a period (so far the max has been two weeks) then it becomes unusable after eg. 30 mins. In periods when this happens, it does so up to 10 times a day! Arggg.
I wanted to send it back under warranty, but now the problem has stopped!
Was going to do a hard reset to ensure it's not any dodgy software that I've uninstalled since it was last doing it etc... but I really don't want to lose my texts!
Any help with backing up SMS messages (without restoring full backup thus recreating digitizer problem) appreciated!
Mat
Thanks for the reply!
I was also CERTAIN it was software related, too.
I could NOT believe that after a hard reset, back to square one, that after 30 minutes, again it would be off.
Made no sense to me.
And only in one quarter of the screen.
So far, today, it's been fine.
It's the weirdest thing.
As for backing up your stuff, I have no idea how, sorry.
I'd love to hear any more opinions/ideas...!
Thanks!
I'm also having this issue...hoped the new ROM would fix the issue but noticed it after I installed a few apps....forgot to check it again before installing a few apps (i.e. pocket plus, tcpmp, a2dp cab, etc.)...did you guys end up sending yours back for a replacement or did you find it to be software related? I called Cingular today and HTC and they both were zero help... trying to figure out if I should send it back.... any suggestions are appreciated
I have this issue also... on all ROMs that I put on... There's a thread that says all you need to do is open up to the keyboard and then close to fix.
2 days ago my Vodafone V1605 (HTC 1.35.255.2 ROM) started to exhibit a strange problem in that programs would just close themselves.
Phone would work fine for a few minutes after reset, then if I started an application the app would close itself, even if I select the Start button the menu would just disappear.
I reset, hard reset, removed SD card, still same problem even with no SD card and no third pary apps, also removed battery overnight.
Just flashed back to original Vodafone ROM (1.20.161.6) and still the same problem.
Has anyone come across this before as I am at a loss to fix it, could it be a strange hardware issue?
Any help appreciated!
Hi skearon unfortunately it sounds like you have the screen alignment issue, my orange m3100 had the exact same symptoms. I found if I took the battery out for a while and put the phone in a cool place it would work ok for about 2mins then the same things would start happening, try contact vodafone for a warranty claim if you can.
to check if it is the SA issue use the few minutes that the phone works ok to go to the screen alignment applet in settings, continual run this and see if the screen goes out of alignment.
There are possible fixes in the wiki but the best bet is to get it fixed by vodafone.
Orange refered me to HTC vodafone will probably do the same.
Good luck

Thanks for the quick reply Rob, not the news I wanted but at least I'm not alone!
I also noticed that after installing mButton that the apps aren't closed they are still running in the background plus if I open the keyboard the system goes mad with the start menu appearing and disappearing all the time.
As it works for a while after being switched off, is it a heat related problem?
Possibly not directly the SA problem but related though. Some hermes are very sensitive to the expansion caused by heat put in pressure on the screen digitizer and sometimes like yours putting pressure on the screen - leading to phantom taps on the screen. i.e. when you open keyboard a bit of pressre in the wrong place and a menu can appear and disappear and programmes close by themselves. Whether the screen is also misaligned is pot luck but it has the same cause.
Rob61280's advice is absolutely right get it replaced under warranty rather than trying the fixes because you have the more serious problem and it's more than just pure SA issue.

Vodafone Ireland's response is "we are aware of the problem and are awaiting a software upgrade from the manufacturer"
Does anyone have a good web link that definately points to a hardware problem, ideally from another Vodafone company?
My V1605 has HTC's 1.35.255.2 ROM installed (but didn't tell Vodafone IE that!)

see here, unfortunately applies to HTC TyTns but since HTC, the manufacturer admit the issue then this must be good ammunition against Vodaphone. It would be good if you can also show the more obvious SA problem as well as the closing programme matter, as this shows a more direct connection to the HTC statement.
If you can show the more straightforward SA issue then Vodaphone cannot claim a ROM issue. A simple google search will throw up tons of references to it being a hardware matter. In addition other suppliers HTC included are exchanging these with few questions asked.
Might also be helpful if someone can post a link to the original HTC statement.

Thanks guys for the advice, Vodafone IE have agreed to replace the unit so fingers crossed for a good one next time
Update: Vodafone IE have agreed to collect the faulty unit but are now saying it will be some weeks before I get a replacement as they are waiting for new ones from HTC :-(
PLease NEed Serious Help
Today i have been having the same reported problem with my 1 month old v1605. The thing is i bought this over ebay. I live in Malta and vodafone malta does not sell this phone. I bought this phone from an ebay seller in the Uk.
What can i do to have this fixed under warranty any suggestions please??
Thanks in Advance
Ken
Yep. I have had this problem too. And my TyTN is not the first problematic lot.
I installed magicbutton and, everytime when I open new apps, others closed.
But reading this topic, I realigned the screen (just one time) and everthing is fine now.
I desparately need help! I finally got fed up missing calls because my MDA Vario wasn't ringing or because it crashed when I tried to answer. I've had a problem for a while, in that after a day or two it will mysteriously stop making any noises. No menu clicks, no voice directions in TomTom, no notification sounds and worst of all, no ringing when a call comes in. The only fixes are to reboot or to go into Sounds & Notifications in Settings, go to the Notifications tab and then change the volume up or down! It's then fine for another day or two.
I finally got fed up and did a hard reset last week, put my data back on through ActiveSync and then reinstalled the following:
Opera
TomTom 5.21
Total Commander
SmartsKey
Omapclock
I set SmartsKey to overclock to 240mhz and used Total Commander to edit the registry and switch on caps indicator, enable the various caches as suggested in in the wiki, and to set GPRS to always on (as I'm on unlimited data). No other changes, no other software. I did install the trial of SPB Mobile Shell, but then removed it because I didn't like it. I'm on the standard T-Mobile firmware, ROM 2.21.2.6 WWE and I've not unlocked it at all.
The phone worked like a dream for a week or so after the hard reset, but now it's started doing the same thing with the sounds again! Furthermore, if I'm using TomTom it doesn't override the power save settings - so it turns off the backlight after 2 minutes and then turns off the phone after 5! It didn't do this before!
PLEASE can anyone help before I throw the thing out of the window and buy a Symbian smartphone!?
Thanks in advance,
Tim
Can nobody help?
Nobody have any ideas? Am I really the only one with this problem!?
Tim
What rom r u using,

Did you thik it maybe hardware not software!!!! Maybe your phones has a fault that comes and goes. I would take it into the shop to see if has a fault!
Can I suggest that you start with the basics. Do a hard reset but reset it before the extended ROM can install. (If you don't have a stock operator ROM installed nows a good time to do it). Don't install any software at all. It might sound a bit boring but it is important to establish if you have a hard ware or software fault.
Now run the fone for a few days and see if the problem returns. If it doesn't start to add your apps one at a time until you find which is the culprit. If it fails to work with the basic stock ROM you most likely have a hardward problem.
Going for repair
Thanks for the replies, all. As the phone is a year old in June and will therefore be out of warranty I spent 45 minutes this lunchtime on the phone to T-Mobile to get it sent for repair! They were fine about it, just deeply inefficient. Anyway, a prepaid bag is on it's way for me to send back. Any ideas if they will try to repair or just swap it out with another one? I imagine a fault like this which might be software or hardware and which only manifests itself after a few days will be more trouble to fix than it's worth? Anyone had any experience of getting one repaired?
Thanks again,
Tim
yeah, I had been p[laying about with roms for a few weeks and after what I think may be water damage or a drunken drop, my screen stopped working.
Take into account it was christmas time but still I received a brand new phone but had the old battery cover haha. They replaced the stylus too. My old phone was battered and screen was scratched so I was totally happy with the 3 week wait.
No questions asked although I did return my rom to exactly the one it came with, i was unable to re cid lock it.
Overall give T-mob time and it seems they replace phones ok
i did take mine into a t-mobile shop so don't know if that makes a difference (time etc) and was not covered by t-mobile insurance but my bank account has free phone insurance as back up
Hope that was of some help

I have a peculiar problem here. My O2 XDA Exec was working fine until one day suddenly the D-Pad/nav-pad UP action started automatically and now it runs continuously . So that no matter which application I run, the UP action is automatically emulated. I simply can't use the device. I have soft reseted , Hard reseted and when all failed upgraded the device to WM6 but the problem is still there. I don't know what the problem is. If it can't be fixed, can I some how disable the D-Pad button? Need help, thanks.
You might have something shorting the contacts, if even a hard-reset didn't remove the error. You might have to take it apart to see the problem, or take it to a repair center(not your provider, they will most probably say the warranty has been voided by the WM6 upgrade) to have it fixed...
Good luck with it!
Thanks for the reply, this is what I was afraid of. It will be difficult to get it repaired at a center because there are not many around who can do it well. Since I donot use the D-Pad that much, disabling it by any registry tweak would do for me for the time being, any suggestion on that. Thanks again.
You'll have to ask someone more knowledgeable than me for that...
the buttons are identified by a seemingly meaningless string in the registry, and god only knows which is "D-pad Up". I'm not sure you can even do such as thing in the registry.
It should be easier to remove the lid, disassemble it, and take a good look inside to see if there's anything in there that shouldn't be. You should be able to see the screws if you turn the lid 90 degrees, and from there, it should be a piece of steak...
Good luck!
Uni D-PAD
Hi, Did you get the uni to the service centre ? did it fix your problem
coz, mine is having the same problem too :-(
Hi,
I've a big big problem with my HTC Advantage.
Yesterday the unit worked perfect until it switched off because of the empty battery. Then I charged it overnight.
Today in the mornig my log in passwort didn´t work anymore.
I never changed the password "0103" since 1,5 years.
What can I do now to get on my hdd? I´ve got a "actually" backup on the MiniSD-Card. But it's not possible to get on it.
Even the Hardware-Reset (Volume down holding Reset) doesn't work. I get on the "reset-screen" but the Action-Key doesn't work. Only the Camera (abort) is working.
It's absolutely true, the password changed it self.
Have you got any ideas? HTC says that in repair all datas will be lost!
Best regards from Austria and many many thanks for helping.
I can only say that I have also had the same experience.
For me the battery never ran out of juice but one morning the Advantage just would not accept my 4-digit "password".
I finally had to give up, for after a number of tries the time between each time one can try a new password becomes VERY long (and I also KNOW the password I used so what was the point...). Soft Resets did not help
So I ended up with a hard reset...
And I no longer use a password...

I would call HTC and see if their's a default password they might have to get you back into the unit. I know it's a long shot but give it a try bud.
Did you do the hardware reset in the recommended way?
Volume down and pressing Reset at the same time.
Then press the Action Key in the middle (Key with the 4-directions).
I can't do a hardware reset because the button "is not working" or is locked because of the password.
I called HTC today and talked with a competent support engineer. There is no default key to unlock the password. It should be a Windows-Problem.
The only way is to send the unit to HTC - all data will be lost!
Best regards
it can change if you change your IMEI. otherwise no idea why.
For me it worked performing a standard 'hard reset' - volume slider down and 'reset'.
Sadly it seems that no one has got any other solutions...
change rom and restor you back up
go to bootloader mode, dont remember how but the info is somewhere in the forum. Then change rom, you can get the default rom off google if you search, so you actually uprading the same rom again into you existing rom. Then restore your backup. That's should do. i had the same problem and using standard volume slider down and pressing reset button worked for me. Hope that helps.

uh, no need to reflash. just a plain hardreset will do.
Thanks all for helping.
I decided to send the HTC to the Austrian Service Point.
There´s still a gurantee, so I don´t want to spend every free minute with this stupid thing.
Best regards

heh, task 28 command in mtty is guaranteed to hard reset it if the button press is no good. but maybe it has some hw fault if the buttons don't work..
Solution
This is the only way to solve this issue. Yes its a BUG.
The Password is no longer stored correcly when you loose your battery.

No patch avalible until now.

this link describes how to hard reset a blueangel. not athena.
"task 28" works though, but you do not need "task 0".
"task 28" basically does a plain hard reset, though. you only need to use it if volume+reset doesn't work (which is usually a HW button issue)
This just happened to me on my Touch...
but I ABSOLUTELY need the data on my touch. What to do?
Same Issue - MDA Vario II - PDAViet WM 6.1
Did anyone come, by any chance, up with a solution how to avoid the looming hard-reset?
Happened yesterday - password changed on its own.... Couldn't believe it!!
Still no fix?
I just got back from vacation yesterday. The phone worked fine until this morning. Somehow the password changed and I cannot get in. This sucks! I will lose all of my vacation photos (on internal memory) if I do a hard reset. The good news: I did a back up prior to going on vacation, so I won't lose everything. I, however, really hate to lose two weeks of photos. Any new suggestions on how to retrieve my data?
Sorry dude,
Hv to tell u that I was unable to find one when I was desperately looking for one some time ago. Best of luck anyways, and let us know in case you're successful.
Josh
Thanks for your um, empathy. I did a hard reset, but skipped the flash drive reformat. This reset the main memory to factory settings, but did not delete any of the files on the flash disk. I saved all of my photos, spreadsheets, and other data from the vacation. I restored the August 13th backup, but only the main memory files and lost very little.
This was a scary experience for two reasons: 1) I almost lost a ton of data, 2) I got it all back without needing a password. I thought that data on the flash disk was secure, but I was soooo wrong. All 16Gb are as secure as what is on the MicroSD card. If someone stole my device and performed the same operation they would have had lots of embarrassing photos of me at a bacchelor party and wearing a Spedo (or less) on the beach. I guess this is something I need to keep in mind in the future. I don't need these photos popping up when I run for president.
