upgrade to windows 2003 on O2 Xda 1? - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

can i update my xda rom from o2 to win 2003? where do i find such utility?

Point your webbrowser to http://xda.weblink.net/ This is the fabulous ROM Kitchen of Makis and LumpiStefan.
Click on "Windows Mobile 2003" and select which tools you want to include in the ROM and choose a bootscreen.
Build your ROM as an EXE file and download it when ready.
The status is shown on top.
When the EXE is downloaded, remove the SD card and put your XDA in the cradle and run the EXE. Follow the instructions on screen and you have an XDA with Windows Mobile 2003 (WM2003).
Please note:
When upgraded you have to install all your software again and re-enter your Contacts and Calender entries.

will i be able to unlock
thanks for your help on the rom kitchen? I have a few questions:
1. At the moment I have developers SER in my XDA 1 and it is unlocked, after I upgrade it to TMobile 4.01.16 will it still be unlocked?
2. If it will be locked again on upgrade to WM 2003 what would be the procedure to unlock it over 2003 without a cable?
Thanks
Ghaffar

It will be still unlocked after the upgrade.....
So no problem with this.....

Reverting back to Pocket PC 2002 SER
Thanks for the quick reply. Would it be possible to revert back to SER on Pocket PC 2002 after an upgrade to WM 2003?
Regards,
Ghaffar.

You can always revert to SER 1.2.
But it could be difficult, cause some some roms only allow installing a new ROM via SD-Card.
Try reading a little bit in the forum....
Stefan

It is possible to go back from WM2003.
I have done it the SD way.
First of all download the XDATools from this site.
Use the XDA OS Image tool to make a backup of your current OS.
Then use SD Backup on your XDA to make a backup of your "Working set" of applications and settings.
You now have a complete backup of your XDA.
I used a cardreader to make a Windows Backup of the SD Card.
Remove the SD from the XDA and perform an upgrade with your own cooked ROM from LumpiStefan.
In my case I could not downgrade using the SER1.2 via the cradle. I had to use the SD methode. Fortunately I had my backup of PocketPC2002, so I was able to flash back to my original XDA OS.

Can't flash 3.17/ 3.16 after installing XDA devel ROM

I installed the XDA developers ROM flawless, but the GRPS browsing deosn't work, and I need it. I want to go back to the original ROM, or other original QTEK ROM, but when I run the installer it stops after "waiting 10 seconds.." I tried 2 different ROMS I've found inthe forum, the UK [email protected] 3.17... and the 3.16...
How can I go back? Is it possible? Please developers help me
Thanks
yes, it's no problem to flash (downgrade?) it to O2 3.xx,
I am not very sure what happened in ur XDA, but I suggest try to use Image Tool to burn the O2 rom.
what's the image tool?
Is it different from the installer I tried?
OK, here is the reason:
B coz the rom which from xda-developers is base on qtek rom, so the id of ur XDA has been changed to qtek's id, once u want to install the rom from O2, the upgrade program found a different id and refuse to upgrade it.
u can:
use Image tool to write the ROM from O2
or
run adaptRom.exe in ur pc to update the ROM from O2, and then u can 'install' it from ur pc to XDA
how exactly I use the ADAPTROM?
I run it from the pc and nothing happenned. (A dos window opened and closed immediately) In which directory should I run it? Or is it from the mobile device through the pc? Please explain me.
The other thing is that I didn't understand correctly the process with the ROM image tool. I copied the ROM from the QTEK to the SD, and then I wrote in the SD the upgrade. Now the pc doesn't recognize de SD, I can't even format it and I'm too afraid to put it back in the XDA.
ANy ideas what should I do? I even tried Isobuster but it didn't read it.
Esteban
Copy adaptROM.exe to same direcory as installer (under "Program Files", called "RUU", "Programme A" or somthing similar.
Go to this directory using the command prompt, and then run adaptROM in that directory.
Run "Programme A", it will not complain anymore...
We're working to make this easier...
i am facing the same problem
hello dear xda-develpoers .... i have the same problem but i have the qtek and i flashed it with the new o2 rom with the xda-developers 1.1 but i cant go back to my orgeinal qtek rom ..i have triyed copying the adaptROM.exe to same direcory as installer (under "Program Files", called "RUU" then i have tryied to flash the rom but nothing changes can u please help me....thanks very much
I hope you also ran adaptROM, and not just copied it. First run adaptROM, then "Programma A"...

ROM Backup to MMC - Problem

I had an XDA Asia version. Bootloader version 5.17. My PC has WinXP SP1.
I want to backup my original ROM before I can load it with other intersting stuff from this excellent XDA developper site. My steps:
1. I used XDARit and write the wallaby-patch-tool.nb2 to a MMC card.
2. I put it in my XDA and do a bootloader reset. My XDA lead me to the patch menu as expected.
3. I insert another MMC Card (64MB) and dump the CE ROM to the card.
4. I inserted the MMC Card back to the card reader and click [READ FROM SD CARD] button of XDArit. XDArit told me that "in correct signature" and DID NOT write the ROM content from the MMC card to my harddisk file.
5. I looked at the XDArit window showing the card bytes and did not see "HTC$WALLABY", rather it show something "FAT". Seems that XDA DID NOT write anything to the card. But also seemed that XDA DID write something to the card as it become unformatted (can not be read by Windows Explorer, whilst before it ca read the card folders and files).
Can someone tell me somehint to back up my ROM. Because I do not dare to upgrade my XDA without backing up my original ROM.
I read thru this forum and seemed that the possible problems are:
- Incompatible driver of WinXP SP1 => XDArit can not read properly?
- Some new trick of the 5.17 bootloader with the rom patch tool can not "cheat"?
- USB 2.0 problem (but my PC used USB 1.1)
- XDArit problem (but I tried both old and new XDArit with no success)
It seems that the XDA did write something to the MMC card but XDArit can not see these.
Please someone help.
I really want to play my ROM with lot of new things on this site, but dare not until I can back up and restore my current original ROM.
Quan
PS. I used "Flash Mate" card reader (4 in 1).
Please any one advise your solutions... I really want to play with my ROM, but before I can back it up.
Quan
Dear Quan,

Hi Van,
Glad to see you are from Vietnam also. I have XDA just for 15 days. I love it very much. I also had Nokia 9210, but now I throw it somewhere in my home and did not even bother to find where it is.
As noted, I could not backup my current ROM. Something wrong in the middle but I did not know why. I have just tried last night on Win2000... Unsuccessfully. The symptom is the same.
- My XDA backed-up its ROM to the card and message me that "back up successfully".
- But when I inserted the card to the card reader and use XDArit, it seems that the card was not written by the XDA as I always saw something "FAT" in the window of XDArit, not something "HTC$WALLABY..." as described in this forum for an XDA image file signature.
- That's why when I choosed "read from SD card", XDArit always tell me that "incorrect signature" and stop.
- For sure that XDA did write something to the card because after XDA writing, I could not read the card thru the OS Explorer anymore (unless I re-format it).
I have tried on WinXP SP1, on Win2000 Pro but... the same symptom.
Tomorrow I will buy a new card reader and try again. If not successful, I will buy a new SD card and try and try and try... again until I can back up my ROM
I need to back it up before I can try many other interesting stuffs from this forum. First time I saw such an open-minded forum with many high-techies who willing to help like this forum.
Share me some hints please. I can not wait longer.

Need to check:
Which version Active sync (best 3.7)
Which version XDARit (best old version)
Downgrade Boot loader version 5.17 to 5.15 better for bootloader SD method
SD Card better than MMC
Windows XP better than 98 versions
I think that
The easy way to upgrade your XDA-ROM: run .EXE file on your PC synch with your XDA
http://www.o2.co.uk/productsservices/xda/romupgradedownload/0,,170,00.html
xda System Software Upgrade
To install the upgrade (ppc2002) on your xda:
1. Download and read the upgrade instructions (528KB)
2. Download the Radio Stack Upgrade v4.21 (1.54MB)
3. Download the Radio Unit Upgrade v3.17.03 (14.9MB)
The best Option:
From JEFF you can download
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/ROMkitchen/
Steps:
1. Full recharged battery
2. Back up your data
3. Soft reset your XDA
4. Sync to your PC
5. Plug your AC adaptor to Cradle
6. Run ROM.EXE in your PC
7. Total time about 5 minutes
8. Completed
9. Unplug your XDA from Cradle
10. Hardreset (2 times- interval 1 minute)
I can read more detail in your PC on the process upgraded
Do not be afraid, you can do it!
Good luck!
Hi Van,
To reply:
- I am using ActiveSync 3.7.
- Can you send me XDArit old version. By email to [email protected]
- Yes, I tried both SD and MMC. But no results.
- Never use Win98.
My questions:
- How can I get bootloader 5.15 image (.nb0 file, right?) to downgrade
- Or the EXE upgrade from O2 UK site include this 5.15 bootloader?
- I have also made 3.17 ROM from Jeff's kitchen. Do you know that this Jeff EXE include the 5.15 bootloader?
- Your advice is to upgrade using EXE from O2 UK? Or from Jeff's kitchen?
- Have you ever tried backup/upgrade using the bootlader way, any experience? Please share.
I am just afraid I did something wrong and can not revert my XDA back to the original status!!! A bit scared.
BTW your XDA original bootloader is 5.17 or 5.15? If 5.17 then please tell me how you downgrade it from 5.17 to 5.15?
Thanks very much for your helps

@ Quan
Fist time upgraded ROM I have the same feeling
For PPC 2002 no problem (6 times upgraded)
For WM 2003 Test ROM 4.00.01 some bugs- my XDA had loosed phone function 3 days  but in the end everything is OK (advice from this forum)

Anyway you can call me before...

Who can give me their T-Mobile number so I can dl the upgrad

hi,
Sum1 here who a T-Mobile subscriber? I have a T-Mobile PocketPC that I need to unlock tho I'm not a T-Mobile subcriber. I need a T-Mobile mobile number to get the upgrade at http://www.t-mobile.com/products/handhelds/pocketpc/download_popup.asp
Or if someone already downloded the upgrade where can I download it without keying-in the mobile number? Thanks.
BTW, I have a question, if I download the upgrade, can I now use the XDAunlock.exe file here (is my ROM automatically updated)? My ROM version now is 3.14.40 ENG. I'm having trouble with the ROM updater here since im not linux literate.
Email me at [email protected]. Thanks a lot
I already downloaded the TMobile upgrade. Can somebody tell me if this upgrade will indeed upgrade my ROM to the correct ROM version with wirelss modem feature to I can use the XDAunlock.exe to unlock my xda? Thanks
The answer is NO, the latest TMO upgrade is 4.01.00 and it has no wmodem.exe application. If you need to unlock your device, go to www.xda-developers.com/XDAunlock/ and use the tool there.
If it doesn't work, try the kitchen at www.yorch.net and cook a new 3.17 based ROM and flash your XDA and unlock it, then you can upgrade to TMO 4.01.00 later.
BTW, the TMO upgrade affects the RSU part. So, unless you are a TMO user you better use the .nbf file only with either SD card or use the XDAtools to flash your device.
Good luck.
Hi Biso,
How can I "cook" a rom? http://kitchen.romanweb.com/kitchen/index.php when I go to that website, the only thing needed to be selected are the 3.17.03 ENG O2-Euro (6656 kB available) and XDA-developers AutoConfig data (113 kB) under it. and the unlocking option right? This wil be the first to use my pocket pc device, which option should I select under How would you like your ROM?
installer EXE
zipped NK.nb1 (SD-card flashing)
zipped NK.nbf (advanced users)
and should I do anything on the NBF header string?
Thanks man.
If I use the intaller EXE file, how will I "flash" it on my device? What are the differences between using the exe,nk.nb1 and nk.nbf? Thanks again.
I notice that above the page there is an indication, by default when I go to the page (without checking or unchecking anything) the top of the page states:
space in ROM: 6656 kB
used: 7729 kB
free: -1072 kB
*overload*
Should I limit my ROM on 6656 kB (meaning that I have to uncheck other options)? My deveice is an XDA 1. Thank you.
Hi ...
Yes, you have to uncheck some optional s/w till the guage line is "Green".
If you are not familiar with the SD method, just select the EXE type. It will generate a 15 MB exe file which you should download it to your PC. Connect your XDA to your PC throught the cradle and ActiveSync and run the exe file while the cradle is connected to the power supply and follow the instructions on the screen.
Good luck.
Thanks man for the quick reply.
Sorry I'm getting confused. Should I transfer the exe file to the device and run the exe file on the device?
Thanks again
The exe file runs from your desktop, your xda will need to be synced with your pc before running the exe.
Thanks so this is what I have to do:
First sync my device (cradle connected to the power supply) and after synching, run the exe file on my desktop computer (no need to transfer on my device or anything?). That's it?
Is this fail-proof? Will it not damage my device if ever there was an interruption or sumthing? How can I make sure that I can go fail-proof? Kinda worried coz I just got hold of my xda 1 (T-Mobile edition), I'm a palm user before. Thanks
BTW, my PocketPC Version is 3.0.12039 (Build 11178). ROM version 3.14.40 ENG. I don't know if my PocketPC is 2002 or 2003. I'll be using the yorch.net ROM (http://kitchen.romanweb.com/kitchen/index.php). All compatible?
ROM 3.14 is a PPC2002 one and all ROMs on Yorch.net is WM2003 except the 3.17 one.
Just to ensure it's a safe process, remove the SIM and SD card from the device and stop any running applications on your PC.
Good luck ...
Thans Biso. How bout a step by step guide? Pls pls pls? Id really appreciate it man.
Like
1. Sync the device (Power connected to the cradle)
2. Run the Rom Exe file
3. etc.
Just to be sure. BTW, is the exe file really just 150KB? Is that all I need to unlock my device?
Hi ...
There is nothing really needed more than what you just wrote:
1. Connect the XDA to the cradle and sync while the power is connected.
2. Run the EXE file and follow the instructions on the screen.
BTW, the EXE file should be at least 15 MB, seems your ROM was not "cooked" well .... try again
Ohh ok. I downloaded twice and all I got was 150kb. how will I know that the ROM i got is "cooked" well so I can be free of troubles. Can you just give me a link to the right/"well cooked" ROM? Thanks man.
One more thing, should I run the ROM EXE file while my device is synching or after the synch?
it's still 150 kb. Here's what it says when I view the log
./mkrom.sh: ../../kitchen.local/mkrom-inc.sh: No such file or directoryno files for configid 26220739Cannot fit files in given sectionsError splitting files
seems there is something wrong with the kitchen work space ... it happens sometimes ... no big issue.
You may try this kitchen as well http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
P.S: run the EXE file after the device is synced
which one should I pick? Pocket PC 2002 ROM or Windows Mobile 2003 ROM. And what's the difference. Sorry for my ignorance. Thanks for the replies.
Biso,
Can I use an MMC card for flashing? I MIGHT be able to borrow an MMC card. Also, I dont have a card reader but I have a digital camera which I can use to transfer the ROM image from my desktop computer to the card. Would you think it would work? Thanks again man.
will the exe file below work for me?
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe
and
http://www.xs4all.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDA-developers-SER-v12.exe
This is my Device's Information
ROM version: 3.14.40ENG
ROM date: 11/26/02
Radio version: 6.18
Protocol version: 324e4
Pocket PC Version 3.0.12039 (Build 11178) (Don't know if this is 2002 or 2003 pocketpc)
Pls reply. thanks
Hi ...
1. As the figure tells, WM2003 is the latest than PPC2002.
2. I can recommend to use TMO 4.01.00 as I have it on my device for almost 3 months now with no problems so far (few things have to be tweaked tho), but I heard good news about AT&T 30.09 ROM as well.
3. I can't confirm that MMC can replace SD card. I saw some threads on this but no final results.
4. The answer is NO, the only way to move the NBF file to the SD card is either a card writer or by using XDAtools with the XDA cradle. I don't think the card will be recognized by the bootloader otherwise.
5. SER-V12 is a PPC2002 ROM and useful only if you need to unlock your device (which I believe it's already unlocked).
No I just want to unlock the device, that's it I don;t really want a ROM upgrade, just so happens that I need to have a ROM upgrade to unlock the device
SO I can use the SER-V12? Thanks a lot.

Trouble to install provider rom to xda-developers-rom

hi,
thanks to the support on this site i was able to unlock my o2 xda. the new rom of your special xda-rom was installed. as it is only in english i would like to have a german rom again..... downloading and installing the o2 or t-mobile updates always failed. the rom-image wasn't found or the active sync-connection failed.... is there a german tool available?
cook 4.00.33 or 4.01.19 based ROM in the kitchen and use the SD method
o2 rom german
thx for your quick help. downloaded rom kitchen yesterday. but there is no executable file resp. can't find my handheld in the winzip unzip-folders.... furthermore i am a beginners and did not really understand how to use the sd-card. if i try to install the progamme a from o2 i always get default "rom image not compatible" or even "can't establish active snyc connection" (even if xda is connected and syncronized the other data correctly.
I think your choices are either to get used to the English OS, or to look around a bit more on this site to learn the SD-method.
I would personally opt for the first choice, but being from Sweden I really don't have a choice. There isn't such a beast as a Swedish WM 2003 for the xda :-(
SD method is quite easy .. cook ur ROM as .nbf file ... copy this file to the SD card using the xda with XDAtools or a SD reader/writer .. insert the card in ur xda and goto the boot loader screen .. it will automatically flash ur ROM

Using XDATOOLS on SX56

To unlock my device I installed the XDA Special Edition ROM on my SX56 by running the executable. My device is a PW10B1 (printed on the back of the device). Unfortunately, after installing the XDA ROM, my device information says the device is a PW10A1. Now this seems to be causing a problem. I want to get WM 2003 back on the device but running the AUTO update tool (Executable with the Wm20003 update) errors out saying that my device is a PW10A1 and not a PW10B1. First signs of panic.. Ok. So I decided to search for the original PPC2002 ROM for At&T and I found it. But its a .nbf file. So I downloaded XDATools hoping to write the image to the device memory or to the SD Card. However I cant seem to access the device from the Destination Browse Button of the XDATools App. The browse dialog that comes up does not include the "Mobile Device" listed under "My Computer". In my windows explorer I can see it listed. How do I get XDATools to wite it to the device rom directly?
Any help would be appreciated
If I cannot flash the XDA directly using XDAtools, are there some PPC 2002 ROM Executable Updates (At&T 2002) available that will bring my SX56 back to PW10B1?
Try using adaptrom.....
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/adaptROM
HTH
Stefan
Adaptrom will let me put the Wm2003 update on the phone but the problem is, it will leave the phone as a PW10A1 and not convert it to a PW10B1...I need to convert the ROM back to its original state.. I will try to put the original Image on an SD Card and see if I can boot off that..
