A beginners question - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Hi,
I have installed an 4.01.15 ENG rom from http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/.
And now I can't install any other ROM with the following error:
ERROR: GetDeviceData - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote
host.
error getting devicedata
I know its a known problem however from what ive seen it only happens when trying to downgrade. Well I'm trying to install a newer version and this still happens.
What can be done?
Thanks alot,
hackid.

Yes your right it's a well known problem bcz you used the T-mobile rom 4.01.16, You just need to flash back your unit using the Sd method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3274

Even if i try to upgrade??
The problem is taht i dont have an SD nor an SD reader/writer.
What can I do?
What actually fails?
Maybe its just an API that can be patched?

Error When Re-Installing 4.00.16 from ROM Kitch.with dif opt

Hello all, I took the bull by the horns this morning and upgraded my PPCPE to 4.00.16 ENT T-Mobile US from JSummers ROM Kitchen.. I used the EXE installer and everything works fine.. I did have to upgrade form Activesync 3.6 to 3.7 once the upgrade was done..
Tonight I decided on trying some new options from the kitchen and downloaded a new EXE.. (still 4.00.16) just with EzWap2 this time..
But the EXE installer won't see the PPC anymore, even though active sync sees it and it syncs just fine. A DOS window comes up and says "ERROR: GetConnectionType - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. error getting connectiontype." The installer window still shows up though.. When I click next to install I get a windows popup box that says "ERROR 011: EXECUTE REMOTE COMMUNICATION PROGRAM ERROR - Cannot execute the remote communication program. Please make sure that the USB/Serial cable is properly connected." When I try again I get another dos window that says "ERROR: GetDeviceData - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. Error getting devicedata".
Am I doing something wrong here?? I've tried the SD method but apparently my SD card writer/reader isn't compatible with XDArit and it writes sucessfully but won't read the card back and the PPC doesn't recognize it as valid..
Help!
 Have you read small notes beside the rom version which tell you to be very carefull before using rom 4.00.16. The notes telling you that after you flash with that rom version will unavailable to reflashing or downgrading with other rom version. Sorry, only this far I could help you cause I'm still a newbie to.
You can go back to a different ROM or the same with more stuff like your situation. BUT you HAVE to do it the SD card way. Search the forum and you will find more info about this. (SD card method)

ERROR: GetConnectionType

Guys! I did something wrong. I upgraded my 3.16 ROM to the T-Mobile 4.00.21. It works fine, but I don't like 2003 so much. I want downgrade. I tried to use Programme A, but i always have this error message in a Dos windows:
ERROR: GetConnectionType
After that the program is always cancel. What to do?
An other error message
I found an other error message. "Cannot execute the remote communication program. Please make sure that the USB cable is propertly connected"
Yes. It's connected activesync is working propertly. Communication is ok. Only the upgrading software can find error.
you must use ActiveSync 3.7.1,
you need un-install it.
Install ActiveSync 3.7 or lower version
I don't think ActiveSync will work ... TMO ROMs do not accept the USB flashing ... you may have to use the SD card method.
Problem Solved
Thank you guys! I did the SD Card Method and It works fine. That was long time to solve to problem and learn how to use the SD card method, but now everything is fine. Thank you again!

So, what error do you get?
What for SD-Card Writer are you using? Inerenal or external? Many internal causes problem, that they do not write correct to the sd-card.
Just give more information what problems occurs downgrading your ROM....
Stefan
the errors i saw, can anyone hlp?
pls wat happened is that i didnt use an sd card cos i dont have one.i used my active sync to transfer the files into the device .when i did that using xda tool ver 1.1,it didnt even run cos i didnt see d osimage tool to run or install,i only saw adapt rom, programme.exe and others and wen i tried running them it displays that no application to run them.i tried using version 1.2 still using active sync,it came up with a cmd.exe applkication and an information that there is an error in connection type, that a connection forcibly ... from the remote host.i was even thinking perhaps its the version of the rom,cos the version of my rom is 4.01.16,pw01b,and i tried running the cooked rom but still an error occured,i dont know wat to do again.can anyone hlp?
Only thing, that could help yoou is buying or borrowing a SD Card > 32 MB.
The ROM you have installed prohibits flashing via ActiveSync / Exe-File, and as much as i know, there is no other solution besides flashing via SD-Card....

i installed a cooked rom wm2003 version : 4.02.04 ENG
i'm a windows mobile c#.net 2005 developer
.net 2005 need installing framework v2
every time i try to install it it return errors informing that the frame work i'm trying to install isn't designed for that windows version but i'm fully sure that that's the correct framework version so i discoverd that that's because the cooked version so i decided to setup a non-cooked and correct version from wiki
i went to wiki and downloaded all wm2003 versions they all say the same error "an existing connection was forcible closed by the remote host" so i searched and i discovered that it requires to downgrade and then upgrade so i downloaded ppc2002 3.16.13_ENG and when i tried to install it it gave the same error i searched and found that it need to be downgraded from sdcard and i don't have an sdcard
so anybody help me
I think the problem is, that the ROM prohibits falshing via EXE.
Try downgrading via SD-Card (Instructions can be found in Wiki.....

Then you have to stay at the current installed version.....
Stefan
SD cards and card readers are very cheap, especially for the small ones. Even if it was just for modifying my device I would still consider buying them.
