FlashMan icons safe to remove? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi everybody,
What are the FlashMan(A, C, N...) icons in the startup folder of windows?
Is it safe to remove them?
Thanks

These are the programs that save your PIM data (Contacts, Appointments, Tasks, Connections) to non-volatile RAM - IF you have that function turned on in Start -> Settings -> System -> Permanent Save.
I do not use this function, so I created a new folder \Windows\Startup Moved and moved them into there. I moved them just in case I decided to use them later, that way I could just move them back rather than having to re-create them.
HTH

If you don't use permanent save, the flashmans won't (keep) run(ning), no harm to leave them in the startup folder.

Many thanks pals

Duplicate Menu Items & File Explorer Disappeared

Good afternoon,
Migrated from IPAQ to XDA ii just on a month ago.
I have duplicate entries in menu (which I can't move or delete) and File Explorer has gone off into cyberspace?? Happened on the first day I had the unit and a hard reset restored it. Am reluctant to do a hard reset again as many progs are on system as well as data. Any clues or suggestions??
Thanks in advance.
Do a backup of your device. You might want to check out Sprite Backup as it will allow selective backup and restore.
It's something you should be doing anyway in case you get a random or unwanted hard reset. Just do a restore and you're all set.
this happened to me too.
i suggest exploring the device with active sync and look for file explorer in windows folder, then just make a shortcut to it and cut and paste that shortcut to the windows/start menu/programs and it should be accesible again. hope this helps.
People, I'd recommend using this duplicate file finder to deal with unnecessary files on your hard drive. It has many functions, user-friendly interface, safety options and 100% efficiency.

Leftover icons from removed program

I removed MS Money 2006 but have leftover icons in the Programs screen as well as in the Menu list. I've searched the registry for any related entries, but nothing comes up. Any ideas where I can remove these bad icons from showing up?
no need for registery hacks, mate. just use your file explorer, go to the programs folder (from start menu) and simply delete the icons. or via activesync (through your pc) go to the unit's programs folder and delete the icons.
for the menu; you can do same. just go to the start menu folder via file explorer and delete the icons.

settings folder from start menu disapeared WM5

my settings icon from my start menu on my universal has disapeared!, so when i click on start < settings , (their is no settings) which means i cannot remove programs, amongst other things, i seriously don't want to re-install
(i may have accidently deleted it, )
i think it is just a folder with some short cuts in it and was hoping that someone would be kind enough to browse their universal to windows < start menu < and zip up the settings folder and then email it to me
any help or advise, muchly appreciated
my email address is [email protected]
thanks in advance
cheers

Create an empty folder named "Settings" (no "") in \windows\Start Menu\ and then soft reset.
perfect, thanks a lot
it works.
only thing now is my remove programs shows no installed programs, luckilly they show in pocket mechanics uninstaller, so i'm good to go

How do I change default folders

Sorry if it's been covered before (did a search, no joy) but is it possible to change the folder that a program uses as it's save to/get from folder. i.e. I want pictures/videos to start from a folder on the storage card and not in main memory and then have to navigate.
TIA chris
Hi
First Start ur camera & go to Tools -> Options -> General -> Save to: change Main Memory to SD card..
This is only of Photos & Video
or check out wizard wiki for how to play with registry
--tux
sorted the save to, it's the start folder that I want to change tho'

Help - Removing icons for uninstalled programs from the programs menu?

Hi - I've recently installed some programs on my Diamond, some of which were not compatible, so I deleted the files for these from my Program Files folder in Internal Storage.
However, the icons for these deleted programs are still in the programs menu - how do I get rid of these icons?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Delete the shortcuts in the Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder.
With File Explorer go to the "Windows" Folder on the Main Storage (Not Internal Storage), then go to the "Start Menu" Folder and then the "Programs" Folder. The icons should be somewhere in there.
A very overdue THANKS to you two - I somehow managed to lose the link to this thread and couldn't find my post again. n00b uselessness, I'm afraid.
well if your dealing with just a shortcut, you could use a program called SK tools, under a category there is a function there on removing BAD Shortcuts...
or option two, you could do it manually, install a resco file explorer got to Windows/Start Menu/ Programs and choose the applicatiion shortcut you want to delete then tap it then delete...
Hope that helped you...
You can also remove it with ActiveSync, after your connected go to mobile device-windows mobile based device-windows-startmenu-programs.Here you can select the shortcut you want to delete.
