XDA II not charging at USB - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi
I got a usb cable from expansys and tried to charge xda II via usb. It doesn-t charge. The orange light turns on and power settigns show "charging" on the label, although, it does not charge.
The first thing that i tried was to see if pins 16,17 or 18 were having ground. They do! Although, pin 5 is not having it.. should it ?
Do you see any other reason for not charging ?
thanks!

Is the cable specifically a 'sync and charge' cable, or sync only. Unfortunatley, not all cables will charge the device.
Also, is the cable for the XDA II or the XDA? It seems there is a difference.

They are specific to xda and xda ii, i bought a sync and charge lead from ebay a few months ago and was told it works with xda and xda ii but it only syncs with the xda ii, if you try and charge and xda ii with it, it actually discharges it a fair rate of knots !! even though it says it is charging

yes it's a usb charge and sync cable
the diferences between a xda I and xda II on charging is that in xda II the pins 16, 17 or 18 need to be connected to GROUND.
I already verified this....
I'm thinking it's the firmware. My battery is 0% and it does not charge. I heard rumors that some firmware could only charge by usb after 30%
i'm having 1.66. Anybody confirms ?

I dont think its the firmware - Im up to 1.72, and still experience the same problem. Got to be the cabling I think.

ok...so let's see the cable
hum.. i really think the cable is correct, but let's see:
PIN 17 is connected to usb ground (-)
Pin 13 is connected to usb power (+) (5v)
do i need pin 5 ?
i know i read somewhere that ping 5 is not used on xdaII. correct me if i'm wrong..

yes it's the firmware!
And yes.... i still think it's the firmware. I got the carge working when the battery is charged more than 50%
If the charge is under 50% it does not charge. any clue ?

With my sync and charge cable, it works well if my battery is above 10%, if lower than that it wont' charge. I have used many types of sync&charge cable, it's got the same problem. The difference is only the cable stop charging on how much your battery left.
I'm sure for firmware because IPAQ could charge by USB cable when battery is 0%.

I 'm not experienced with the PIN connectors of both devices, but a friend got me a sync & charge cable from USA and it works perfectly for both XDA and XDA II ... unfort. I don't have its brand name, but this proves it's available.

Are you using an xda1 usb cable?
I'm using the BoxWave miniSync, it says "xda" on it, but BoxWave who sold it to me as an adaptor for the XDA II say it's the same, they also sent me the following email today:
"We are aware of the issue, and it is not a problem with the miniSync as you
may suspect. The O2/XDA II has a software bug the prevents charging from
low current sources, such as USB. If you have a unit that has the
attribute, you should contact HTC or the brand which your XDA II is made by
and request the bug fix.
The problem does not exist in every XDA II, which is why HTC did not make a
public announcement regarding the bug. We have done in-house testing to
confirm this, as our wiring structure is identical to the stock connection,
with the only difference being the incoming power current levels."
I've got one's, wried as :
+5v -> pin22
UDC+ -> pin 14
UDC- -> pin 15
GND -> pin 18
it can sync on XDA II, but can't charge when battery less than ~60% from USB port (more battery is ok).
Do I have to change GND to another pin to force my XDA II charge?

I have tried the usb charging on 2 pc's. On the first one it started charging very slowly then basically stopped charging as I used the device.
On the second machine it charged very well regardless of whether i was using it or not. I was also activesyncing on the second machine.
I bought the Pocket PC Tech's Lil Syn, which is very similar to the BoxWave product, and the USB sync/charger drained my battery.
I read BowWaves response that only some MDA2 or XDA II have a problem with this, but what I find interesting is that I can charge via USB on the cradle regardless of how low my battery is, but I seem to have issue with the Lil Sync product.
Why would this be? Is the cradle more powerful than the PPC Tech or Boxwave products? That does not seem likely.
It seems if the cradle does charge, but these other products do not, then the problem would not lie with the PPC Phone-2003.
USB Sync & Charge cable.
Okay.. I was a little Pissed when my cable wasn't working, so I started looking into the differences and found that ground was going to Pin2 on my sync and charge cable, where my stand alone charger didn't have that. So I snipped the wire that went to pin 2 and walla, it charges now.
I still am having problems getting my battery pack to work. It's a pack that takes 4 AA's and is supposed to charge it too. It supplies more Volts than the USB, but it won't start the charging process. I'm going to try and wire it more simpler to my USB Sync/Charge cable and see what happens.
Let me know if this helps,

as ive replied saying on other posts......
XDA 2 charger kicks out 2Amp max XDA only does 1amp max
most charging assesories are XDA 1 compatible only yet people say they work on the xda 2 means they have found out they plug in simple but they dont kick out more then 1amp as usb ports can only handle 1amp max.
thats why it doesnt charge it might charge if you turn your device off and disbale activesync from waking the device up but it will take twice aslong to fuilly charge maybee longer but if the device is awake youll find that the device is using up more power then the usb charger can give out so in otherwords your device will die instead of charging itself up.
gaz
I have a standard xda1 sync/charge cable and it charges my xda2 regardless of the amount of charge left in the battery, and it does it very quickly too, I think it is a bug in some of the xda2 machines.

Hi: can you provide your pin configuration for continuous charging while idle or being used.
I have this adapter that came with my xda2, is the wiring correct for use in a car adapter charging? Thanks.

do you have a pin config for your second m/c. Thanks.
Further to my earlier post, my xda2 now no longer charges from the usb sync/charge when the xda2 is low on battery, this only happened since I got my first "low battery" warning, I put it on charge, looked a few minutes later and it had gone from 10% to 7% battery power.
Hi all, pls look at this post... the non-charge issue can be addressed... http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5438

XDA II Charging

I read a few articles about the auto sync (usb) cable.
There seems to be a "bug" when charging with this cable the battery charges till it's full (100%) and than discharges the battery again.
Is this is the same with the usb cradle?
Thanks
Panja
Is the cable you are talking about a charger to run from the USB port of a desktop to the XDA, without the need for the charger? Where can I get one? I only got 1 power charger & keep it at home (where I dont have a pC) & my cradle at work (where I do), it would be nice to be able to charge at work too!
Does anyone know where to get a new charger adapter plug from (the one to use for charging without the cradle) mine is getting a bit knackered!
cheers!
Don't know m8.
I was just asking around because I read stuff about it on some pages.
try www.expansys.com
Can someone answer my question.
Thanks
Has anybody used a usb sync & charger cable for the Himalaya (XDAII) ? I would like to buy one which works for sure. The one from Lil'sync did a very bad job cos it sync's only without charging.

I was the one who started the thread about this problem with the sync'n'charge cable. If you read my posts in the following thread, you will see that the cradle doesn't have the charging problem:
Sync-charge cable charges to 100%, then discharges
thanks for the reply m8
Will be looking @ your thread in a few secs.
cheers

Oh No ..... I didn't realise this ... and I've got one on the way to me. By the way I take the cradle to work every day but leave the mains adaptor plugged in at home. The cradle with just the sync cable is quite capable of charging the phone at work, and I'm sure once it gets to 100% it stays there.

XDA II charge or not to charge

Having major issues with my 3 month old XDA.
1. Will charge when using the home charger
2. Will charge when using cradel connected to 1 of my 2 PC's
3. Will not charge when using cradel connecting to my other PC
4. Will not charge when using cradel connecting to my MAC
5. Will charge when using cradel connecting to my PC Laptop
6. Will not charge when using the O2 supplied car charger
In every case the phone thinks it is charging i.e. the green charging light comes on and if you go to the battery control panel, it even says "charging".
XDA repair centre have had it for 2 weeks, flashed the rom and returned it. Still doing it.
Have demanded a new phone form onestopphoneshop.com who have refused due to it being more than 28days old although it has done this from new.
Aaarrrrgggghhhh!!!!!!
Can anyone help?
Have you tried another battery?
Since the hardware 'logic' seems to be doing something (light goes on, software gets charging signals) the chances are the battery is faulty . . .
Why some chargers do work and others dont: Could be the charging current that is higher on chargers (incl USB port of one of your pc's) that make this battery charge.
Battery...could be I suppose, but I have been digging further into this and have found the following.....suspicious!
www.ppcw.net/?itemid=1646
Hello,
I have a very similar problem to that described in the website you listed.
My phone works fine with its supplied cradle and charger, and charges fine with my work and home PC's, with only the USB cable plugged in.
I bought a charger/ sync cable off the web hoping to not have to carry my cradle home each day and it causes huge problems.
First off it doesn't sync at all - but does cause problems with activesync giving me error messages once it is unplugged saying 'Can't access COM1'
Worst of all though it turns the LED to orange for charging, and when you go to the battery screen it says charging, but instead it actually discharges the battery! This is also the case when I use the cable with the wall socket plugged in.
Just spoke to XDA Repair centre, they have done a total cop out and said that they do not support anything that does not come in the box!!!! That means my car and my computers!!!

Have just bought a new 1400mah battery, will be here in a couple of days, will keep you posted.
I have found that the battery will charge if the xda 2 is about 70% full but lower than this and it will discharge the battery via usb.

Just want to make sure, is it 1400 mAh? because the standard one in the imate (xda2) is 1200 mAh.

It is indeed a 1460 battery to be precise, I have been told that they are very rare, think they are the ones that are going in the new XDA II i, s, III or what ever it is going to be called.
It should last 25% longer, cost £25GBP. Will let you know how I get on with it on Monday after a weekend of testing.
Back to the charging problem, do you others who have the same charging problem all use the O2 supplied USB cradel. Is there anyone else using an alternative charge and sync cable that works better???
Just a thought.
I have been told more by the XDA repair centre. It seems that the output through various USB ports vary in ampage, surely some sort of regulation should be made into the cradels/chargers???
not sure if this is relevant but
if one does not connect the power connecter to the cradle
then the xda will be forced to charge using usb
and some motherboard have issues giving enough stable power
more so if you have connected more then one usb device
to ports which share the max 500mA that usb can give
also not all motherboard can charge over usb when
the pc is off it all comes down to if usb is powered with vsb+ 5v
some motherboards have jumpers to control this
canaero - Where did you buy the battery from? Is it exactly the same size, or is it slightly thicker?
I have ordered a mini-sync charge cable from boxware in the states; on their website, it says it is compatible with my ORange SPV M1000, but we'll see when it gets here.

Well, I am using the cradle and I do not connect it to the power supply, here it goes, it takes a lot of time to charge my imate (xda2) if it is connected to my notebook, while it takes about less than an hour to charge the imate if the cradle is connected to my PC!!

That's really good price and I guess the battery performance should be better, I heared the xda3, or xdaIIi or whatever (the new model), the battery power is 1490mAh. Please let us know your experience with the new battery.
The new battery has just arrived and I am charging it now. It says 1400 on the front plus a made in china sticker on it.
I got if off ebay from SIANS Mobiles spares and repair Tel: 07743 787858 or www.siansmobiles.co.uk
Good luck
IT WONT CHARGE!!!
just a quick one, i arrange for around 60 XDA's to be used in my company and i can tell you that not one of them will charge in any of our company vehicals or charge via the cradle.

Yikkkes, O2 must listen to you as you have bought so many, say you will send them all back and cancel the contract and see them squirm. Let me know what the outcome is, because leagaly you can send them back and get our of your contract under 'not fit for purpose'. Do it around the time of the new XDA, who knows!!!!
There really is an answer to this somewhere, I have bought this new high capacity battery and it is still not charging when it says it is. I am off to the Microsoft site to see if I can get them to point the finger and the XDA.
Used the new 1400mah battery all weekend, performed very well considering I used it as a sat nav for 6 hours on Saturday continuously with the backlight on for all of those 6 hours.

XDA IIi won't charge by AC adapter anymore!!?

This is the second device I have had from o2.
The first one I took back because I found that just charging by the AC adapter did not work. I now have another device, and I left it plugged in to the AC charger all night (confirmed it was charging). Woke up this morning, and the device was dead to the world. Soft reset and it woke up with low battery. Plugged back in to AC, and the charge light won't come on again!!
2 devices in a row?? Is the XDAIIi known to have charge issues?
Cheers!
Any ideas on this? This is my 3rd XDA IIi!!!
This one worked for about a month, and now it's stopped charging by just AC. I can charge via USB but this takes ages in comparrison!!
Surely this must be a fault with the XDAIIi ?
Try
I have the same problem sometimes but am able to charge after removing the connector from the Xda IIi and the plug from the AC supply socket for about a minute or so.
Works everytime.
An idea
Hi!
I had the same problem a few month ago. What I did - and it worked - was leaving the XDA running. So I left the screen running. Just turned off the light of the screen. That way the XDA charged correctly.
But if that doesnt work, just try to put your AC cable in the cradle. That way you can charge your XDA via USB but with power from your plugs.
Give it a try!

[Q] Galaxy S5 Charging Time

I've just got a new Galaxy S5 and I really love it. I'm currently anxious of its charging time. The moment I've booted the phone for the first time it showed around 51-52% battery. I've plugged the USB 2.0 (sad to see a USB 2.0 instead of USB 3.0 in box) and started charging through my laptop and at the same time imported contacts. Email is on Sync (15 min), wifi on, its been about 4 hours since the usb cable plugged in and is charging but still at 92%. Is it normal for the first time.
The problem I have is that the Wall outlet came with the phone isn't compatible with what I have at home and will make the adjustments tomorrow for that. So, I didn't tested it directly with its charger plugged.
Yeah mate. Charging seems too slow, while using USB cable plug-in with my laptop..
But with regular charger it's okay..
Laptop charging always takes too much time, that's not unusual.
