Hello all,
I have troubles installing Microsoft eMbedded Visual C 4 and/or Visual Tools 3.
It all comes down when the installation process is about to install the PocketPC SDK. The installation seems to hang at the point it says "Registering Platform Manager Components".
According to numerous posts in discussion groups it seems the Emulator for Windows CE has some sort of invisible 'modal' dialog displaying "Emulator for Windows CE failed to register COM services."
Does anyone knows what causes this problem? I have disabled my virus scanner, and logged in with administrator privileges.
Browsing through numerous newsgroups revealed no-one has found an appropriate solution for this problem, so I would be surprised if anyone on this forum has a clear answer, but since the level of skills of most users on this forum is quite high, I'd ask anyway
Kind regards,
Thumper

Ok, I will try this!
Hmmm, I stopped all non-critical processes using Services, but the installation still hangs...
It's driving me nuts already...
Same problem.
To solve that I restarted and boot in 'safe mode' (not sure of the word in englsih. It is 'mode sans echec' in french)
I installed EVC4 -> good, restarted normally and done.
heh yeah good old safemode installs thats how i used to install Dao3.5 under xp
Aha, thanks for the tip! I will try a safe mode install!
Thanks alot guys!

Hey all,
I'm running Windows 2003 Server on my development system, and would like to connect to my MDA2.
Activesync does say it has connected sucessfully, but never shows the "New partnership" wizard. Any for of syncing or file browsing results in nothing but error messages like "Unable to retrieve device information". I've searched a lot of fora already and tried re-installing outlook, activesync and the driver that came with my mda 2. I also tried disabling my firewall, starting all available serviecs etc. Nothing seems to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
From other various posts uninstalling and reinstalling ActiveSync seems to be the solution to this problem and this worked for me. Ensure you have the latest version of ActiveSync - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx. Delete any current partnerships and then attach your device.
That didn't do the trick Activesync does start up, and a connection can be made, but the whole idea of partnerships seems to be diabled. There is no partnership wizard at startup, and no way to delete or edit the current partnership. I'll tyry again tonight, until then I'll just run all my updates from work

Uninstall, disable driver signing and reinstall.
Failing that, make sure you have all available updates from Windows Update and the latest build version of Activesync. 3.71 build 4034 is what I use. I've used this no problem on W2K3.
Cheerio

The only way I can get it to work is to kill explorer.exe and disable the anti-virus (Symantec corp 9.0), uninstall ASync, reinstall ASync, connect device.
This setup works all the time, but after a reboot I have to start all over. I've tried disabling driver signing, system file protection in any possible combination to no avail, maybe I should just re-install my system (or it may be that I have Visual Studio .Net 2005 installed, but that seems a bit far fetched.
Hi,
I have had my Iwzard for a week now and have this porblem with applications not installingon my wizard. I tried downloading low CPU Skype for pocket PC the from http://www.skype.com/download/skype/mobile/download.html - my Wizard says its not a valid application.
Downloaded Total Commander from:
http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm ( the ARM/XSCALE/PXA version)
still could not get it to work.
Downloaded pocket doom from some site, did not work either. Always the same message...
And still I was able to download and install the agile messenger program..
It is the skype that has me worried. If you have any suggestions, please let me kow. Thanks!
What ROM do you have installed ?
Where do you install the application - your internal storage or to a storage card ?
I've had this once, and a reset helped me install.
You need to run the install program from a location on your PC through active sync. You can not install it directly from the phone.
dummy me
Sorry guys, this thread was a complete waste of forum space. Turns out as I was still new to this device and the way it functions, I never realized I need to run my programs on the desktop computer and they would install via ActiveSync on the PPC. Don't get me wrong I did my research but not a word on this issue. Not surprised though...people regard that as common sense )
Thanx for answering anyway, apologies for the dumb question!
After a lot of trouble I finally succeeded in installing WM2005 on my SPV c500.
Background of this is that I also want to install Compact framework 2.0 and do some development.
However after the installation of CF2.0, restarting of the gsm results in a hang up when the sim-code has to be input....
After a while an Windows error message occurs ...asking me to send de error log to MS, which has no use because WM2005 is an illegal version...
Has anyone any idea what's the cause of this, or better knows the solution to this problem?
Try to turn off the input of SIM code. Sometimes it's buggy in this version.
Thanks, that seems to be working for the moment...
Hi...
where did you find the rom ? The Typhoon folder on the ftp is *emtpy* ...

http://ronswens.technoboard.ws/
I stop wasting my time trying to upgrade to WM5. WM5 for this gsm is very unstable.
Lots of succes to everbody.
I'm in the same boat as Freeck, but I really need to solve this problem if at all possible. Does anyone have any information or leads at all on why installing .NET Compact Framework 2.0 on ronswens' WM5 (on Typhoon obviously) causes cprog.exe crashes on the next reboot? Even if it's just background info or a "you're doomed, ha ha ha!", it'd be helpful at this point .
Thanks in advance!
Download the last version of SPV-Service client from here.
Extract all the files from archive to some folder on the PC and run SPVServices.exe (press OK on the phone when it ask to install TyphoonNBFTools.dll).
Click 'CID Tool (Alpha)' on the left and press [Set CID = 11111111] on the right. Wait untill it's done.

When i open SPVServices.exe it just opens up this app on my pc that says RAPI INIT OK or something like that, but no prompt on the phone to install TyphoonNBFTools.dll
Hi guys, I installed the Windows Live Package from http://www.live-messenger.nl/download/WindowsLive.PPC2005_ARM.CAB. It worked perfect, now i wanted to know how much memory this app costed, so i uninstalled it again. But when i tried to install it again, it failed When i open the cab, it loads approx. 5 seconds in the installer, then the installer says Installation of WindowsLive.PPC2005_ARM.CAB has failed Anybody suggestions how i can get this work??
p.s. Without a hard reset
I have also done the same thing and get the same error. I had to uninstall Windows Live Mobile because I was getting an error everytime I tried to launch Live Messenger. Now I can't re-install it again.
I have 2 main ideas:
1st.: Microsoft is cutting the service from these "un-official" releases of their software, as they are trying now to sell Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Live can't be downloaded or installed let's say "legally".
2nd. (which doesn't affect the first one): Microsoft recognizes the WLM software as not pre-installed or being installed on a Windows Mobile 5 device and tells the client to get "blocked", I mean, it writes some values to the registry and prevents being launched or installed again showing the empty error message I had before unistalling it.
Someone can verify any of my ideas or bring a solution to have WLM working again on our WM5 devices?
Thanks in advance.
Romero i've found the problem! I got my hands on an UNdated UNrestricted version. As you said mic. just cut the WLM off. I do not knowe why but here is the fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36364&d=1175459584

neither of those are correct, the reason is thats its a beta and expired at the beginning of the month. therefore you cant run the program or install it. just get a new beta version by signing up to Microsoft Connect or use the older version thats been extracted from wm6 thats floating around here.
Try it, like the worker:
WindowsLive.PocketPC_50_arm.cab
Thank you very much ASerg!
The version The Dutchman posted was in English, but I find out that the Aserg's file was several kB bigger... That made me think and decided to install this bigger one and finally got Windows Live Mobile working in Spanish, just like before my beta had expired.
So thank you again guys!
Hey guys,
Everything goes smoothly until i attempt to instal the touchflo. I get this error message,
" .Net Framework Initialization Error - "To run this application, you must first install one of the following versions of the .Net Framework: V2.0.50727 Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of .Net Framework"
Am I going to have to download the .Net framework program or is there anyway to bypass that? Thanx a bunch guys! Sorry if I sound like an idiot.
That's strange... I've never seen that because I've always had the .NET framework on my PC's since it came out... What OS are you using and how come you don't have it?
Most programs these days are coded in .NET, so if you dont have those components then they won't run...
What program are you running that says that?
I'm running XP Pro, but I usually uninstal the .Net framework because it messes up the way my computer runs. I'm trying to run the 1_upgrade_rom for touchIT 2.3 for the wing. It'll be mid process and then it shows the forceful disconnection. If i need to install the program does anyone have a link so that I can download it?
I had that issue .. i dont know how i fixed it, but im sure i ran this CAB
http://www.pocketemu.com/download7.html
So then you ran the cab on the Wing and then the problem stopped occuring?
yea, i didnt have any issues/ errors after the first install
Alright thanx man. I was about to try to run the installation off of my sisters computer. She has a shadow so I know she installed active sync. its frustrating for me to not have something i need because sadly im still running off of a 56k internet connection :'(
I just finished downloading it and it didnt install, it said that it already exists in the rom. Off to my sisters computer i go
This sucks, not even my sisters computer can run the installation.
