Internet browsing and email sending blocked - Networking

Getting an Xda2 supplied by the company that I work for..
I was looking forward to getting it until we were told that the browsing of the internet would be disabled...... Was wondering if there is any way I can unblock this and block it again if need be.. Also the ability to send emails is going to be blocked aswell...
Cheers

TMobile and XDA II Blackberry

Can someone tell me if they have been able to configure the XDA II Blackberry to work with TMO in the US? Is this even possible...
No I dont think so yet. Uless you can connect to the UK blackberry enterprise server. You might want to go to their website find that link and set it up there. It might work anywhere your phone is (i.e. if you are a business travel) The US Blackberry webclient is set up right now only for Blackberry decvices right now i belive. Also the current server set up does not alllow picture transfer. Limmited file trypes. only word, excel, powerpoint i belive. Blackberry has always been weak in the attachment department. I think this is the reson you dont really see it on the handheld side yet. Im not sure what O2 UK has cooked up or if they are running the newest implimwntation of the Blackberry enterprise server. But where ever you are to get a @o2.blackberry.com or @tmo.blackberry.com address and store and forward someone has to have the BB server, and have it configured to support the device type you have.
In the mean time some interesting things.
1. the Webclient service ONLY pushes mail to your device every 15 minutes. So nothing more special then the PPC can do already. You can set your device to poll for new messages every 15 minutes. (I think in the end the BB webclient implimentation is going to be a let down, nothing new, nothing special, just something, more to sell you.)
2. If you are a member of ClubImate sign up for clubmail. You'll get access to an echange server that can be set up on the device side to get your mail as it arrives. Basicly the same thing as BB except its sync'd not just dumped onto your device for safe keeping like BB.
Just an FYI.
Unfortunatly the most stable solution I have used so far is the HP iPAQ 6315 mail trigger system. Seems to work the most reliably over all the others. The big downer is it costs SMS charges everytime you get an email, is near impossible to port to a non-iPAQ6315,
but works flawlessly.
Yes you can if your SIM is blackberry enabled. ie. If you currently have a corp blackberry device, you can take the SIM out and pop in into a XDA II with blackberry connect installed. I'm receiving Corp and bwc e-mails on my XDAII updated with the latest O2 firmware xx.181. You need to download the balckberry configuration software from O2 or search the forum as some kind soul uploaded the software here. For corp e-mail, you need to have connection to exchange server and chnage the PIN number of the device since it is based on your IMEI.
Good luck!
David
Thanks David.
I have 1.7xx.181 with Blackberry Software installed. I have a Blackberry SIM.
How do I get the PIN Changed?
Finally got it working...
The only problem I have is that the outgoing mail... It goes through the device hits my Corporate Lotus Notes but doesnt reach the recipient..

This is the thread with bbconfig files for lotus notes and exchange. Check to see if you have the service books on your XDA II. Did you have blackberry functionality via notes before?
May be your IT poeple hard coded the blackberry PIN to your account
Managed to get BlackBerry functionality running on my XDA2. I call it now XDA2Berry...
Quick questions I am hoping someone can help with :
--------
Regular BlackBerry synchronizes calendar & contacts to the local device. I do not think this is happning on the XDA. Any ideas on if it is possible and how to activate it?
When a message is received I hear a short beep. I tried changing the setting for Sound Event called "Inbox : New EMail Message" and add Vibration to the alert but I see that this makes no difference. Seems like BlackBerry New Message is a different event altogether that is not listed in the Sounds applet. Any ideas on changing the alert tone & activating vibrate alert?
Last but not least, I understand on a real BB device you get to surf the net under the BB GRPS plan. In my case this would give me unlimited local usage. However on the XDA I am unable to use the Blanberry,NET APN to connect for regular web surfing. I am still defaulting to my carriers regular GPRN APN for Internet connectivity. Any idea if it is possible to use the Blackberry.Net for PIE access?
Thanks & Best Regards

Not currenttly possible. Tasks, events and contacts ability will apparently be there for XDA when BES 4 is released

No, but I too would love to know!

Same for me I think it's not currently possible for that - I did ask.
Thanks for your kind reply. Any idea when BES4 is coming out? Regards

Vodafone UK and Push Email

Does anyone know what the address of the sms server for vodafone. I have setup an exchange activesync server that pushes email to my phone but i need to input the address to send the push text signal to. It wont accept my phone number but needs to be in the following format [email protected] or com. Does anyone know what works
Thanks
Chris
Sorry I dont have any answers for you however I would be intrested in how you set everything up so far
As far as I am aware, the only way to get what you want is the VF Mobile Alert, whch is £0.99 per month but 10p for every text message! If you're on 200 emails a day you don't want that. SP2/WM5-MSFP is your solution - and mine - but as yet none has released an MSFP ROM for the Wizard/Universal. And as Vodafone is THE worst at doing PDAs, the best hope would be T-Mobile or O2... Hope this helps.
yeah thats the outcome that i have found too, bloody expensive

Can POP GPRS download be blocked by network?

Hello, I need help here. My sim is on 3 network and I signed up for the unlimited GPRS but bought HTC advantage and was able to connect to 3. It has been merry until few days ago when I cannot download emails again except I got via web, I've tried everything possible including hard reset. But once on wifi, I'm able to. The question is, is it possible for network to block this like they do msn messenger? if so, is there any hope or I should just cancell the data plan as this was the main reaso for taking it. Look forward to help. Thanks.
Yes they can. EVERY internet protocol and every program can be blocked if the carrier so wants. Contact your carrier and ask them what their policy on POP2 access is. If its blocked or they don't get a straight answer, then I'd cancel.
Thanks a lot for the reponse, it seems that is the case. I called and they said I should not normally have had access to POP3/IMAP downloads. And I'm just about to cancel the web package. Cheers.
I think they are talking coblers! 3's own mail '3mail' is IMAP mail! So of course you need to access it! Calll again and insist of speaking to scotland as then you might get a straight answer!

Click to collapse
Bad call - 3 are terrible!
Anyhow, if you check with your email provider you may find they provide an alternative port for email access... the most usual blocked port is 25 because that's the one most people use for POP3 access.
Hope that helps...

IP over SMS? (NOT SMS over IP)

Hi everyone,
I recently added an unlimited texting plan to my phone. It's so useful that I replaced my SE K750i with a Kaiser to be able to text faster. The problem is that now I love all the internet features of the phone, but I can't really afford to add an unlimited data plan to my account.
So here's what I was thinking: I've seen different tunneling systems that let one go online through different services. One of them was IP over DNS which let one surf the internet on a protected wifi network as long as there was a public DNS server reachable. The other was a IP over ICMP which worked the same way, only over ping packets. I'd like to build something similar, only over SMS. I know it'd be extremely slow, but it'd be a lifesaver for doing basic internet browsing, such as checking a Wikipedia article, or updating RSS feeds, etc..
My question is, does something like this exist? If not, what would be the best way to approach this? What are some obstacles I could find on the way? What's the best way for the server computer to communicate with the phone? Right now, the only way I can think of is by sending emails to the phone's email address.
What do you guys think?
Thanks for your time,
Hernan

[Q] Sending Data via WAP/RIL API

Hey,
I have searched the forum, and haven't found threads pertaining to what I really want to know.
I have also read on MSDN code samples pertaining to this topic.
Basically, I am aiming to create a new transport DLL for MMS/Email/SMS/etc. [which will go along with a whole suite of programs]. What I am trying to do is avoid the use of CE MAPI.
From the research I have done, I think I have figured that to send SMS via RIL, I need to encrypt the SMS somehow, but I am not positive of that [however, I think I saw this in a thread somewhere]. I am totally baffled in terms of MMS. I am pretty sure that for E-Mails I can just connect to the internet and such with the phone and do the standard transmission of emails.
I saw people talking about using WAP to send MMS ... which would make sense because the data connection for MMS does have an IP address ... it said it used the MM1 standard/method. I couldn't find anything more though
So can anyone lend a hand here?
Thank You VERY much !
