Hi everyone
I want to buy a backpack for my XDA 2 but dont know what card to buy with it. The Hitachi 4GB Microdrive works on a FAT32 system and no-one can tell me if this would work with my XDA 2. The microdrive can be found at the address below, any help would be great.

Also, if anyone knows about pda bluetooth keyboards, post it please
I have the backpack and use it with CF memory cards. I would presume the microdrive will work OK as I used one in my earlier HP iPAQ H5550 PPC (with adapter sleeve) without problem. The FAT 32 was not an issue with the iPAQ and it is the same operating system as the XDA II.

Hello mlee2,
I have a magicstor 2.2 GB microdrive and use it with my backpack.
When i put it into the CF-Slot it begins to spin and everything seems ok.
but after a while spinning stops and the drive won't work. I always have to eject it an push it into the slot again. This is especially very ugly if you
want to hear music or watch movies.
So, don't know if the Hitachi works but magicstor won't.
Does anybody has a solution for that problem?

magicstor 2.2 GB microdrive
Hey Frank
I was told that the ibm/hitachi drives will work witth the XDA2 but i was also advised that magicstor would work and that you could get it from 7dayshop.com for under £100. I am going to buy the 4 gig hitachi version. Contact magicstor to find out if it could be a problem with the drive.
Good luck
Michael
Hello Michael,
this is what i got from mgicstor.
Dear Frank,
Sorry for so late reply for my oversight!Regarding your problem we
have not tested with our CF drive, so sorry I'm not sure its
compatibility and can not give you any advice about it for the moment.
However, please keep close to our compatibility list on the website
when update.
Thanks for your support of Magicstor product.

The compa-list of magicstor
doesn't explicitly show that it is compatible with the xda2/backpack,
although i read somwhere that it should be!
Maybe it could be that the accu goes to hot and then Backpack or any driver it shuts off?
I only have the problem when straeming wmv or wma data
longer than 4 minutes.
So try the hitachi one and tell me please about success!

Hi All,
I just received a Hitachi 4GB Microdrive but it looks that it cannot be recognised by my O2 XDAII v.1.60.00 WWE version.
In Win XP it is recognised by my card reader as formatted with FAT32 and shows 4GB capacity. Works properly.
When inserted in the Backpack, I am prompted for the driver (atadisk.dll) but after entering it, nothing happens. No extra Storage file added. Nothing.
Hitachi Support site says that the newer drivers are included in Win Mobile.
The threads in the Forums don't help much to solve the problem.
Anybody has solved it? Is the 4GB microdrive compatible or not?
Could somebody throw any help at this? :?:
Many Thanks,
Gear :?
Update, 16 Sept. 2004
Two months later and looking through ALL threads for the Microdrive in this site and the respective links, the only thing discovered was a picture of a 340(?) MB Microdrive inserted in the Backpack.
I assume (mentioned in another thread) that up to 2 GB the Microdrive should work but I am not willing to buy a second one to find out.
No luck though for the 4GB Microdrive up-to-date.
If anybody knows anything different, please post a reply.

from an o2 shop......yes the backpack will fit the xda 2 and 2 i as they are the same casing but it will not fit the xda2s
IT WORKS
Could someone kindly post here the driver(s) file(s) of the XDA 2s for the disk?
There are two files on my XDA II both in the \Windows directory:
1)atadisk.dll dated 23 Feb. 2004 & size 16.5 k
2)AtaDisk.dll dated 15 March 2004 & size 18.5 k
but none of them can see the 4GB Microdrive.
Many thanks for the help.

i'm not suprised the xda 2s cannot recognize the 4gb microdrive in a backpack.......
the xda2s is not compatible with the backpack!!!
further more..... the backpack and microdrive need no drivers .... they are plug and play!!
IT Works.
I meant the drivers of the XDA 2i which seem to be newer than the ones in my XDA II.
Sorry for the confusion.

again:.......drivers????? the backpack plugs on... tyhje card goes in... it works no drivers neededc or provided... are you talking about the rom etc?

It is not that simple on the XDA II. The backpack plugs OK and is recognised but on the insertion of the microdrive it asks for drivers. It is not recognised as "plug 'n play". At least my 4GB Hitachi Microdrive. The exisiting drivers (above mentioned) in the XDA II, are not working to recognise the drive.
I suppose that in the new 2003 O/S the drivers recognise the drive. Hence my request for the newer ones.

i believe ur best option would be to forget about drivers and to update ur rom
Nothing new here, but i am having problems with my Backpack and would like to find out from other backpack users if they are having problems. in order to be able to evalute the problems and possibly approach o2 could you please say where and when purchased, nature of problem, has this problem been from day 1 or did it develop.
thank you in advance, but i'm tearing my hair out here and i'd like to know the experiences of others before i go to o2 with what they may consider is a unique problem.

I have the backpack, bought it in may04. Don't use it much except maybe on holiday.
What problem are you having ?
Bought mine from O2 at same time as Xda II, works a treat although not used the CF slot must, mainly used with LCD projector for powerpoint.
Control 2 x XdaII & backpacks at work and haven't seen any problems.
If you post the exact problem I'll see if I can replicate it.
Bought mine from a PDA store in Kuala Lumpur about 4 months ago.
So far have experienced no problems.. Use the CF slot for memory cards and a Dell WiFi card. Use the video output with my Epson LCD projector.

backpack
My problem is i cannot get system to recognise any compact flash card i insert. first card i bought was fuji - i inserted the cf card and the system requested drivers! then i tried a bytestor same problem. i invested in a card reader and formatted the cards still the same problem. on one of the forums here i spotted a download 'bpinsert' i tried that and altho' it is a shortcut to a non-existent program the fuji card was recognised for a short while and i seemed to be able to access it, then the system froze and after a soft reset the problem started again. i have the part number, serial number and model number and am about to approach htc to see if i have a good product, if not i'll have to buy a new digital camera to use the 256mb flash cards and i'll sell the backpack on e-bay to some schmuck. (joking). the thing that is making my tear my hair out is i bought an sdio gps unit, as i was going to lose storage space i bought a backpack, now i find the sdio unit will not work without an update with autoroute 2004 and altho' the back pack does work with presentations - about three per year - i can't use the storage facility. oh well one lives and learns. still i could save some money on a new camera i know this guy............................
BackPack Problem
Hi,
I got my BackPack about 3 months ago, the reason I bought it was to do my powerpoint presentations using my Imate (xdaII). But the problem I found is that the Imate gets too slow. Have you also experienced the same problem?
Regarding the CF Card, it works fine, reading and writting, note that I heard 1st set of backpack manufactured early this year can not write to BackPacks!
One more problem, if you use XCPUScalar Softwar (to speed-up your PDA to 530 Mhz) then it can not recongnize the CF Card in the BackPack, you can not read or write either (acutally as if it does not exist). I guess this is due to the Speeding up software. If I enable it, then CF card is available and the Imate can recognize it.
Unkown card error
ianlake-
I've got the same problem - you're not alone. I am trying to use a 1 gig IBM microdrive and a 128MB noname card. Both, from time to time, ask for drivers for the "unknown card". What's worse is the error is sporadic and I can't rely on using the storage for anything important on the go. My desktop has a built-in reader (in which both cards work fine) and one of the main reasons I bought the backpack was to transfer files quickly from desktop to CF to I-mate. I haven't been able to find any tips in my searches but please keep me informed of any progress you've made.

This is certainly the answer to my problem, uninstalled XCPU Scalar and things are all OK, including some things that i hadn't really noticed.
I think i should contact XCPU Scalar and report the problem.
Thank you GoldenSands.

Most welcome "ianlake".. but does your Imate go very slow when you connect it to the projector and run a presentation? Even if it is connected to the monitor!
from what i've been able to read then when one display using the backpack the fps is limited to 1-2
which could cause it to seem pretty slow

Sorry, but what is "fps"??
The only reason I bought the BackPack is to run the presentations through my Imate, and I was unable to do so; due to the very low speed I get when it is connected to the projector. Actually it gets slow once I run IA Screen Mirror.
I got IA Screen Mirror Ver 2.01 (Build 15055)
Is any one aware about a newer version? and from where can we download it?
fps == frames pr second
as in how many pictures you get every second

yes, horribly slow, but by the time i get round to doing my presentations at the end of a boring lesson my students have gone to sleep - so no-one notices.

I use my backpack with a compact flash modem and I did'n face any problem with it. But after purchasing a sandisk connect plus, WiFi+128 MB card, the device is getting very very slow plus it is only recognizing the memory part and not the WiFi part.
Originally I wanted to use my i-mate with WiFi but nochances.
I even formated my device several times but the original driver is nor working.
Also after contacting sandisk directly I got no help!!!!!!
RE
FI, no overclocking programs like XCPUSCALAR etc work with backpack. The files in the CF card will not be recognized if overclocking progam is installed especially if you set the speed above the default speed setting. Also, GPS performance is erratic.
I've changed my backpace twice. Firstly, it was a faulty backpack that could not recognised my CF card after a few weeks of usage. The 2nd time was the backpack battery konks out after about a year of usage. Could be due to end-of-life of backpack battery. All were changed within the warranty period of the backpack.
hi, i bought my universal off ebay "brand new" for 258 GBP including postage which i reckon is a good price.
i have been using wizard so far and today i changed it for universal..the pocket pc is a real beauty..i really like it. i noticed two things which worriy me. the 1st one is : when i try to turn off the device it goes only to sleep mode but donst switch off. in wizard when i pressed turn off button it basicly turned off the device. is it normal in universal to make it sleep ? how can i really turn off my device. and the other thing is my universal dosnt detect SD card. i have got two of them one which came with my universal and the other one is the one i was using with my wizard. how can i make my universal detect them ??? (512mb and 2GB)
cheers, cudo
hey ! yeah ihave been researching a bit and i can tell with great confidence that universal dosent shut down, many pocketpc's dont. Some like your wizard are an exception. even i have a universal.
Regarding not detecting SD Card it seems odd, is it not appearing in explorer at all ? cause i've never had that problem
yes excatly it just dosnt appear in explorer.I will try to format it latter on and so how it is. is it normal I haven't got msn on my mda pro?
Hmm. this might sound like a dumb question but r u sure u're inserting it the right way ?? lol..
hehe yeah i think so and what about the MSN ...have u had it pre-installed on you universal ?
I'd be a little bit worried about it not detecting any SD cards and test it ASAP as I've not had any problems using several different ones - here's hoping it is not a hardware fault...
As far as MSN is concerned, it depends on the ROM you are using - they have different things installed and I've noticed one or two didn't include it.
Either way, using the instructions and vast wealth of knowledge on this forum, you should be able to find one that you like
all sorted at least for the moment...i am using mini sd card with adapter and after i locked it and instrted the card once again my universal detected it
can u tell me how to "activate" real VGA ? or give a thread on that ?
cheers, cudo
after a while the car is not detected again i have to take it out and put it back. thiss happens when usinng mini sd with adapter after inserting sd card everything seems to be ok....for now;
try this for true VGA and many other hacks:

Unfortunately, the Sandisk offering is the ONLY ONE IN EXISTANCE.
It's also EOL'd - you can't buy it anywhere anymore other than Ebay.
Nobody seems to care about SDIO these days, huh. -.-

Well I looked further into the issue, and apparently SanDisk discontinued it because it suffered from too many various errors . Guess it was having teething problems, being the first of its kind. Lets hope someone fills this void, because I want one!
Sandisk wifi is extremly slow.............realllllly slooooooow.
So forget it. You can connect usb flash drive via usb and use sd for wifi if really need. Or flash your jam with BigStorage and use internal 27 mb.
Or even 2.5'' harddisk.
Thanx

It's not. Magician unfortunately lacks USB host capabilities - in short, it lacks the drivers required to control an external device, such as a hard drive or keyboard...
Which sucks. Bluetooth GPS and Infrared Keyboards really do suck up battery life.
At Ebay there are a lot of SD Wifi Cards available. Is any of them good ? I want to use it with my Qtek S100.
i have a spectek sd wifi card which works well in my qtek s110.
I've had the SanDisk 256Mb WiFi card for way over a year now and have not had any problems. The only problems I had were the installation but after searching for updated drivers which were like Gold dust as this card is no longer manufactured I located some and it's been great since. I've set the WiFi connection on the Magician to have the "best battery life" and the speed doesn't seem to be a factor.
Maybe I've been lucky!
Hi, I've been browsing around the forums trying to work out whether a 4GB MiniSD or MiniSDHC card will work with the Trinity or not, but I can't seem to get a definite answer..
For those of you, who have successfully been using 4GB (MiniSD or MiniSDHC) for a long while now, (> 1 month preferably), how did you get it working? i.e. how did you format it, are you using a different ROM, etc.
My device will be the Orange SPV M700 (I haven't got it yet), if I flash it with, say, a Dopod ROM, what are the advantages/disadvantages?
Thanks for the help!
I have a DoPOD d810, i also would like to know if it can handle a 4GB MiniSD.
Please reply if you have any experience with this issue.

Listen up guys...How many threads does it take to get this issue solved? I have been using a TopRam 4gb miniSD for 3 months. I'm a power user with TomTom, video apps and audio apps all running directly from the miniSD card. The card is 85% full of nav maps, music and videos. I have never had an issue with this setup running the Dopod Test Rom found in the Wiki of this site. It works for me, that is all I can say. Apparently there are some rom versions that have had issues in the past.
Thanks.
I also saw some other threads on this issue, it would seem that the Trancsend 4GB MiniSD is the most promising.
At this point, it's hit or miss. While a few users report no problems, many others have had problems with not only the 4gb, but smaller cards as well.
I, for one, have a 2gb card that works flawlessly, and a 4gb card that wont last a day without errors. My belief is that this has more to do with the brand/manufacturer than anything else

From what i saw in some forums you should not use "SDHC" (yet, till HTC solve the problem) but normal one and Format FAT/FAT32
