Does the XDA II support HSCSD. (High Speed GSM Calls)
If so does anyone know the AT commands to get it working, I use the HSCSD modem on my Nokia3650 using Blyetooth on my laptop and its works perfect. I DO NOT want to use GPRS which works fine on the XDA II.
So does anyone know how to get HSCSD to work on the XDA II if it is supported...?
Hopeing to get this done asap!
Thanks.
Nokia 3650 doesn't have Hscsd and no Edge. Only Gprs (3+1) 46kbps max and gsm 9.6 kbps.
Also Himalaya have only gprs.
Correction.
The Nokia does and has HSCSD, I've been using it for over a year now.
Just enter the AT string into the modem properites on the laptop and it works perfect on Vodafone Ireland's network.
Also can anyone confirm that the XDAII DOES NOT HAVE HSCSD..?
I'd assume that the device should be able to made a HSCSD call when used as a bluetooth modem!
Apoloize about Nokia Hscsd, yes it has. Probably max at 43,2 kbps.
But Wallaby has not.

Why is there no wireless modem in "4.00.11 ENG WM2003"?
Can I install Wireless Modem to WM2003 manaually?
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I really want to check my emails when I am off road.
any ideas?
i would search on google to see if you can download or buy the application
otherwise why do you need to make your xda a wireless modem to check your mail ?
if it's a pop/smpt mail server and your isp have it open you can check mail with your xda using gprs
thats what i do
if gprs costs $1 for 1KB, you cant really use it!
so, i wanna dial up to my ISP instead using gprs.
i checked google and could not find anything!
Code:
if gprs costs $1 for 1KB, you cant really use it!
WOW!!!! never heard about such extreme gprs prices
here it's around $2 pr 1MB
GPRS Price
Yeah, wow, GPRS is about £1 per 1Mb in the UK.
I guess thats a typo!
not a typo. i am in a little island in europe
is the price to talk equaly high ?
if not then it would prob be cheaper to shout 1's and 0's and transfer data that way
if you wanted to use the xda as a modem would that not be over gprs aswell ?
i know that you can use a gsm as a normal modem aswell but not all that many isp's support it
and at a higher price too i think
the talk price is fine. it's still higher than in many countries in europe, but i am okey with it.
so, i am planing on using my gsm phone to call to my isp. my isp allows that and my carier allows data tranfer over the phone capability.
what i am just missing is the software - wireless modem!
you could try and diasm a rom and pick out the files for vmodem if it works with 2003
otherwise i suppse you have to go back to 2002
Guys - I'm trying to get hold of an XDA2 and put it on the Orange network in the UK. The main reason for this is that you can have 2 numbers connecting to the same phone on the orange network (a.k.a. business and personal). But I also like the idea of HSCSD - i.e. 28.8K data speed - faster than any of the others.
If anyone has done this and has any comments they would like to share that I will be a happy man.
regards,
i may be way off here but i dont see what the problem should be
a gsm phone should work with any gsm operator
i bougth my xda unlocked and without a phone company licence
i put in my sim and typed in the pin
i put in the grps settings myself
and it were all set
so as far as i see any unlocked xda should work
Hi,
I'm currently using an unlocked MDA2 on orange. No problems so far, phone works, gprs works. You mention HSCSD. This is not possible with the MDA2 - it is GPRS only. Or are you talking of carrying two devices, one for GPRS and one for HSCSD ? ;-)
Cheers,
Oliver
(Oliver - ) if you are using it GPRS with Orange then you would no doubt be able to have the 2 number service they offer.
As for HSCSD, this is a faster version of GPRS - see http://support.fujitsu-siemens.de/KnowHow/GB/Grundlagen/Funknetz/GPRS/GPRS-im_Vergleich.htm
The important figure is the realistic data rate in practical usage, and HSCSD appears to be 2-3 times faster. This means your bill will go up 2-3 times faster. But that's not the point is it?
Anyways, cheers d.
I have a XDA2i that works fine and as it should. I also have a Nokia 6630 3g phone on Orange, with the new phones comes one of there "try befor you buy" things where i get 1GB of 3g data per month for three months for free.
What i am after is to know if its possible to use the XDA2i to view the web and the 6630 as a bluetooth 3g modem, Just like years ago when you would have a old Ipaq with no phone built in and usae your mobile for the dial up or GPRS access.
Thanks
John
My XDA2i has bluetooth version 1.0.3900 but the bluetooth profile i am after is "connect to a mobile phone" or something like that so i can do a DUN connection and use the Nokia 6630 as a modem.
Have they removed this option from the PDAs with phones built in thinking that it would not be used.
Please has anyone any ideas
Thanks
John
i have an xda 2i and a c500 smartphone, ive got an o2 contract sim in the c500 and all gprs settings work fine, in the xda 2i ive put an o2 pay as you go sim,
is there any way i can use the xda 2i to connect to the grps on the c500 settings
YES
i have the same a XDA2i and a orange Nokia 6630 on a 3g cotract with a trial of 1GB of data free per month for 3 months, so of corse i wonted to do the same as you and use another phones GPRS/3G connection, but the XDA2i did not have the Bluetooth profile of DUN dial up networking, but with the help of poeple on her it now works, i will try and find the link they gave me to show you how to do it.
But it works fine i use it everyday and will do for the next 2 months untill the trial runs out
John
thanks a lot mate, appreciated!
Is my operator able to tell when I am using my MDA pro as a wireless 3g/GPRS modem for my laptop etc, as opposed to browsing directly using built in apps? I ask because the T-Mobile bloke in the shop said I had to pay per megabyte if using the device as a modem.
If they can't, I am slightly questioning why I've got my MDA pro. I've already got an hp4700 which in many ways I slightly prefer, and that combined with a bluetooth phone could potentially do everything the mda does, except save me the embarssment of holding a large PDA with a crap speaker to my head when on the phone.
It's definitely not easy for them, but it is possible to tell (unlikely they would bother however). Why don't you just upgrade to Web & Walk PRO - it's only about £2 per month more than the standard WnW plan and it DOES allow you to use it as a modem?
I did it a few times with XdaIIi on GPRS. Speed was still bad and have my VPN drops all the time on PC. Just got the HTC P3600 and want to do the same using HSDPA.
Same issue with the operator: no body know how to set it up. The guys there eventually give up and allow me to browse their intranet to seach for info. Still not working yet.
