I am connecting to an IMAP4 (Exchange) server with Outlook in WM2003 and any item I send is not retained in the sent folder on the PPC or in the sent folder in Exchange. The messages are visable in the Outbox before the send/receive, and are being sent, just no copy is retained.
Any thoughts/suggestions?
I too am connecting to my Exchange Server with IMAP4. I found that items I sent from my PPC were not found on the PPC itself, but were found on the PC Outlook client. From the PPC Pocket Outlook I selected Tools -> Manage Folders, selected Sent Items and then tapped Send/Receive icon and it correctly showed the Sent Items folder as on the PC.
HTH!

I have all of my messages and accounts set up in outlook 2003, is there any way for me to transfer them to my Wizard or do I have to set them all up using the wizard itself (painfully slow )?
Activesync only seems to let me sync custom folders that I've created (not Inbox, Sent items etc). Also, is it possible to use one inbox for all accounts in pocket outlook? It gets kind of messy when I have six folder trees.
Fairly new to PPC phones, so not sure exactly how this should function.
I have a few POP3 accounts in outlook 2003 and they sync perfectly with the phone. When I write an email on my phone it stays in the outbox folder until i connect with ActiveSync and then it sends.
What I would like is for my emails to send via GPRS/WLAN when I write them on the phone and then sync as normal and update my PC outlook sent folders. Is this possible?
I don't want to have to add all my POP3 accounts into my phone, as that would effectively mean my emails would be stored twice, once in the outlook folder and again in the individual pop3 folder.
Would someone kindly explain why I cannot send/receive email from outlook inbox when not syncronized? My stand alone outlook 2003 is configured to my gmail pop3 account. The outlook 2003 works great on the laptop. The active sync is working fine. in short everything is great with the pairing.
Do i need to create a new pop3 account on the hermes with the same details? Is this mandatory (i think it is)?
Will this syncronize with outlook 2003 cleanly?
Assuming my thoughts are correct this means:
1. while not attached to the laptop oulook, i send and receive via pop3 gmail on hermes.
2. since the mail goes through gmail, i will collect it for archiving when i send/receive from laptop
3. ultimately it will all reside in outlook2003 and sync back to hermes.
I just hate the idea of needing to create a 2nd account on the hermes...
Thanks in advance.

As far as I understood your questions:
1) you're right in general so...
2) to fully use your pop3 e-mail account (your gmail) on BOTH devices: PC + PPC - you need to create pop3 e-mail account _on each_ of them. It's a must. You should also keep in mind, that if you want to store your e-mail messageû on PC (laptop) in Outlook 2003 you need properly adjust the following pop3 account setting on your PPC device - set "leave copies of messages on server" option.
Having done this you will receive copy of all messages to PPC, originals to PC, and the only problem is that you will need to manually delete copies of your e-mail messages on PPC. At least how it works for me.
It maybe possible to setup an automatical delete of those PPC-copies of messages from pop3 account, which were deleted on server, but i don't know.
The only way around it (probably - as I never used it by myself) is what you have now: your e-mail are going to.from your PPC through synchornization with PC, which in its turn is connected to gmail pop3 account.
Good luck!
where on the hermes is the function for "leave messages on server"? i have the button active on the outlook 2003 on the pc. i have it checked on the gmail account settings. on hermes? thanks....ST

Click to collapse
In WM5 there in no option to "Leave messages on server". this is done automaticly. In WM5 the messages will stay on the server untill you
1) Delete them on the Hermes = Deletes them off the server
2) Download them to you PC that deletes them off the server
So if you get POP mail on your Hermes only delete messages you do not want to go to your desktop.
I am using gmail as the mail server and i access the pop mail via both:
1. outlook 2003 on PC
2. pop3 account on hermes
Seems i cannot access gmail from both and have outlook 2003 remain current with gmail server. Outlook 2003 does not 'pull down' messages that were accessed by hermes. And the real kick...with a subsequent send/receive the mail on hermes disappears. All mail is on gmail so nothing truly missing, just 'holes' in my outlook 2003.
Is there a better/different/alternative device I should look into?
Should I just disable outlook 2003 email?
should I just get a freakin pen, paper, and some stamps!
Thanks all...ST
I've had my X1a for a few months now and is synced with my work's Microsoft Outlook Exchange server. I can send and receive e-mails fine and everything seems to work except after I send an e-mail from my phone, the message doesn't go to the Sent Items folder.
However, in my MS Outlook program on my laptop which I use for syncing (with WMDC) and is also set up with my e-mails through the Exchange server, I can see my sent e-mails in the Sent Items folder even when I send e-mails from my X1a. So I know there is nothing wrong with the Exchange server and it is a problem with the phone.
On my X1a, when I go into my Outlook E-mail options, I have the "Keep copies of sent items in Sent folder" checkmarked but nothing shows up in the Sent Items folder after I send an e-mail.
Any one know a solution to this?
you need to set up your sync folder settings. by default wm will only sync your inbox and none of your other folders. iirc it should be under tools -> folders and check the sent items folder to be sync'd as well. i don't have the phone in front of me right now, so this is from memory. play around with the settings and you'll see it.
Yes that's the way...
Inbox > Menu (right soft key) Tools > Manage folders> Check sent items.
Then just sync again.
omg you guys made my day! thank you!!!!!
i can't believe it was something so simple..
mods, please close
Is there a way to synch ONLY the 'sent items' folder via ActiveSync or do you have to also keep copies of the various messages from Outlook also on your phone?
Bump. Anyone?
connect phone to pc, on pc open windows mobile device center, click mobile device settings - change content sync settings - email sync settings - untick the folders you dont want and tick those you do (sent items in this case)
Sorry, I think I didn't express that well. I want to synchronize only the sent items from my phone to Outlook on the desktop so that I can preserve any replies I send from the road while having the original message downloaded to my desktop when I return home. The settings you describe will only synch MS Outlook items with the 'Outlook' folder on my PC, and the accounts I set up on my phone do not appear in the folder tree to be selected. So that configuration won't work for me.
It seems that no combination of what I want is possible with the current software, yet I can't believe I'm the only one with this need.
Let me explain.
I use Outlook on my desktop and only use the phone for reading and replying to messages on-the-fly. Knowing that I will have a copy of the POP message on my laptop (which serves as my home pc also) when I get back at night, I only want to file and keep a copy of any replies I make from the road. My hope was to have any sent items uploaded to my laptop, I can run rules on MS Outlook to autofile to their respective folder structures, and I'm done - both received POP messages and their corresponding replies are preserved.
I own a copy of FlexMail, but it won't synch with Outlook, so that's not a solution. And there doesn't seem to be anything else out there that'll do what I need.
Any thoughts?
Bump. Anyone?
Guys, just to reiterate the question...
How would you get (move/copy/backup) messages from the local email accounts you set up on your HD2, to your Outlook PST on the desktop?
