What do people recommend by way of apps for encrypting the SD card files and general security?
I tried using NMS for PDA 2 and my XDA II was an unhappy bunny generally - losts of hangs etc.
Many thanks

Resco explorer got encryption options.

This is happening to me, the data in my SD card is totally wiped out 3 times till now, even if I disable the 'detect digital camera storage cards' in Program, Pictures. I am beginning to lose faith in this ver of PPC 2003 and will switch back to SER 1.2 this evening. Does anyone know what causes this thing?? its not fun havin important data being wiped out like that
Yeah, when I saw that resolution posted earlier I thought that would do the trick until I saw that option already turned off on my XDA. I think it is off by default in WM2003 to be honest with you. My 2215 had that option turned off also.
The SD card wipeout only happened to me once, thankfully. It definitely is not tied to the 'detect digital camera' option though so users who have upgraded to 2003 should be aware of this potential problem.
Never had my SD card wiped out on the 2215, though so I think it is an XDA only issue.
Also one more 2003 bug that is not just isolated to the XDA. If I have File Explorer opened and I am accessing a folder on the SD, then I pull that SD card out and swap it for another one, sometimes File Explorer will just lock up. It will not allow me to access any folder after that. A soft reset is required or swapping the original SD card will correct the problem. Very weird. It also happens on the iPAQ 2215 and 5555. PocketPC2002 never had this sort of flakiness in File Explorer before.
Personally I believe its a XDA only bug/problem and that it is tied to the Picture viewer and is probably know by the Powers That Be, hence the delay in the release of WM2003 for the Pocket PC Phone Edition.
Sure the Picture maybe turned off by default but what effects does it have if you view a picture say from File Explorer or if you use a program that uses images like Wisbar, eWallet, CodeWallet etc..? Does it scan the SD card, sure it does! Just a thought!
Hi
I beleive the SD cards have a security system to stop data such as music etc, being copied back out of the card...
Would this be useful for pesople who have sensitive data on the card? eg, a listing with phone numbers or such.
If the card/device were to be lost could this stop the data from being copied out of the card??
if so, how can it be implemented?
Or is the Secure part of SD only suitable for things like music? Does anyone have any moe details on how he security works??

well since these 2 seem to work on mmc and cf cards aswell i doubt it's the nativ security of sd cards but
Ok guys, you know how you can recover or fully delete files in your PC right? You can use a program like System Mechanic. System Mechanic can also do that to an external device like a digicam or mp3 player. When I say files I'm talking about pictures, videos and multimedia stuffs. I didn't back them up. I just deleted them and of course the occassional hard reset. Now I have some questions:
1. I cannot make my XDA II show as a removable device. I put it in the cradle but it's not showing up as a removable device. I was told that you have to put it in "Storage Mode" and not in "Sync Mode". Anyone who knows how to do this? Or make it appear as a removable device?
2. Do you know of any way to recover files deleted in my xda 2? or fully delete them aside from the system mechanic program?
3. Is there a way for me to reformat my xda 2?
4. When I hard reset my phone, does it delete files permanently and has no way of recovering it?
I would appreciate answers to my questions. Thanks!
your PPC makes use of RAM as a hard-drive, thus when files are deleted, they are deleted, they're not flagged as overwritable by the OS as you find with a physical HDD in a PC.
agree'd but that may not hold try for SD Cards if you just delete a file
being that sd cards have a limited number of writes before they go belly up
it would be silly to truely delete files when you delete them from the os
of cause a format should truely delete everything on the SD card
But how come my officemate was able to recover a file in his nokia phone? He used system mechanic. It showed up on system mechanic as a removable device.
Thx for the answer but I don't get what you're saying with SD cards. You mean SanDisk card right? Can u explain more?
SD == secure digital
and yes sandisk makes sd cards like they make pretty much all other
flavours of flash cards
not sure how logitech handle their systems internaly
one thing you could do to make sure that your pda really delete
the stuff is to get the program which makes your pda work
as a usb mass storage cntrl device in that case normal pc undelete programs should be able to access it like other volumes
Yeah that's what I'm trying to do. I have a system mechanic program on my PC. Unfortunately, my O2 XDA II won't show up as a removable device. ANy ideas on how can I do this?
As my first post, sorry for my bad english here. U can use softick cardexport. use googl....., and u can use as a removable device.
hhhmm..it says that it's for palm..wld it be compatible with xda 2?
Yes, you can!!!
You can do it, read here:-

that's for if you've had a piece of removable storage and the FS and/or files on the media have become corrupted (probably due to an incomplete write and bad timing) it is NOT for people who have intentionally deleted files from their card. neither is it for the PDA's on-board memory, which this guy has quite clearly killed intentionally, also mentioning that he has performed the odd hard-reset too.
secondly, just to point out a crucial aspect of your flawed logic;
if it is possible for files to remain in the memory of the PDA even after things such as a hard reset, then why is it that if you remove the battery from your PDA, then leave it in said state for about an hour (drained backup battery) the PDA will be blank after I put the battery back in?
I was wondering is there any real difference of installing apps to the storage card vs installing to the device? besides the location of the files...
would the phone run faster if installing to one vs the other ? .... anything different at all?
Or are there certain apps which make a difference and others which do not? Please advise me....
in general internal memory is faster than sd card, so programs located there would load a little faster than ones on the sd card.
On all my previous WM devices I've installed all games to the SD to save space, and all regular apps to main memory. But with so much free internal storage, I've been installing everything to the internal memory. I don't have a ton of games, maybe 100mb total, so there's plenty of room, and things load much quicker.
The other advantage (mostly with games) to installing on SD card is if you flash your device, or hard reset it, most games will run fine from SD w/o having to reinstall, so if you save the shortcuts you can get away with faster "rebuilds" after a flashing (assuming you don't use tools like Sashimi or XDA_UC, etc)
YMMV
Thanks for the info.
yeah I thought the ones on the device may load faster -but I was not able to prove it ...is there anyone out there who could ?...
also how could I save my shortcuts as you have mentioned (without using things like xda uc or sashimi-which I HAVE been using actually)....
I think I will try installing more things to the device, but I would like to hear more people on this topic....

you could set up homepage quicklinks to your games, then export the reg key
HKLM/software/htc/manila/home (contains a series of numbered keys, each one is a home quicklink)
Use something like WinCE CAB manager to make a cab that you instal when you re flash. Hey presto, quicklinks restored, no need for backup software.
Many non-system type apps especially games just need shortcuts to run on a fresh flash/hard reset so if you just back up those icons and restore them manually or with sashimi or xdauc you're good to go. Reg keys can do any custom tweaking. Before I started using sashimi I did these backups all the time with card based installs, but now with sashimi, not so much need.
You will also save battery since the phone won't need to access the sd card. Though I don't know how much you'll save, since WM may scan or access the sd card for other purposes anyways.

Nice point, did not occur to me....
Hi All
I really need some help with this one - I have a M30S which is only a couple of years old and I have a problem with data - Mainly MUSIC - MP3 and also MUSIC VIDEOS -. Mp4's etc.
So, I downloaded the music and videos etc and then - Using File Manager Plus App (From Google PS) - I Move the files to the SDCARD.
2 THINGS - A) The Files I moved are simply not in the Folders I pasted them in to! The Newly created folders are still there - Just no files in them!
B) Less annoying but still not right - All files which are in the Downloads folder are still there - Whether I have MOVED, (or COPIED THEM). Also if I accidentally refresh the folder by scrolling down or up the screen ALL the files reappear - Including ones I have deleted earlier!
I have tried several different New SDCARDs and read information on the Samsung galaxy M30s on Samsung's site but none of it has been any help! I have tested the SDCARDs - Using "True SD CARD CAPACITY". The result shows that an SDCARD with a total storage of 512GB only has an available Capacity of 3GB - When there is no data over 1GB Max! Actually on the card!
Any ideas with be welcome!
Thanks for your help

Use only name brand cards like Sandisk Extreme bought from a known good source.
Format card in device. Leave it there and never use on another device. Never.
Toss the Gookill junk file manager first, then...
Use Samsung file manager to do all copy/paste operations.
Hi Blackhawk - Thanks for your help! The SD CARDs have been Good quality - San Disk, Kingston etc and all bought from totally trusted sellers and brand new - sealed products.
I have no problem with the internal storage - and the File Manager I use works absolutely fine with any other operation except when it is related to the SD CARD!
Sorry I just don't get it - I am going to format the card (but have done it before),
Then, I will use the Samsung File Manager to do some copying and pasting and see if it will work OK
Big thanks for your help and I will update here in case you want to know what happened!

You're welcome. Scoped storage may be screwing with you. Common files like media should be ok but you may need to grant permission for it to work. Don't know as I specifically avoided using Android 11 and up.
Pie runs too good to mess with it. 10 is less friendly but usable.
I have a zero confidence level in all Google apps... they earned that.
