A couple of weeks ago i bought a Scandisk 512MB SD card to use in my XDAII.
All has been going well untill a couple of days ago.
I decided to delete a couple of files (an XDA backup file and an MPG). However everytime i go and few teh SD card, they are always but cannot be accessed.
I have tried multiple time to delete the files, either via the XDA file explorer, or my desktop when viewing the XDA, and although the file successfully deletes everytime, it keeps reappearing.
Has anyone had this problem, or does anyone know of a way to fix it?
I do not have a dedicated card reader at the moment.
Craig.
why do you keep trying to delete a needed system file for the xda? :?:  (if it keeps comming back its there for a bluddy reason lol)

Hi,
It isnt a needed system file, i have tried deleting both an MPG and an optional backup file that i have created.
I have bought a memory card reader from Amazon, so hopefully i will be able to do a format of the SD card that will resolve the problem.

I just did a backup to SD and files are missing (Pix Mp3 etc...) now the only folders are the recycle bin (advanced explorer) Backup file 20Mb and "ignore mydocs" which is 0kb. The properties still says the space is taken up with stuff on the card but i can't get at the files. Any ideas or do i have to format the card.
I know SD card erasures has been thread before but I didn't know if the XDA2 problem was new. I'm using windows default theme, no-name 256Mb SD card.
Thanks
This is the first that hear about lost SD files on the XDAII. This has been bothering me a lot on XDA1 and WM2003 and there is no OS documentation on the Phone Edition of WM2003.
The interesting thing is that you do have some folders remaining in the card. Is the backup functional(Were you able to restore from it?) Most erasures completely erase the card and all the directories therein.
I did some research on the Radio Interface layer and the specific DLL's interaction with the OS. As a continuation to the following:
http://xda-developers.com/RIL/
I feel the problem lies in how the Radio Stack conflicts programatically with how SD cards are recognized by the device. So I wrote a few apps to trace how files are written to the card and when there is a new card ID generated by the device.
The erasures coincide with the new SD card ID in the OS and port/ layer. However, since the RIL and stack are built in and not documented I have not been able to isolate and resolve the problem.
How long have you had this card?
what apps do you have installed in the XDA II?
Has the erasure occurred before?
I've had this happen once and only once after uninstalling some software. I have a "viking 512MB" sd card.
I ejected it then put it back in then pointed the file explorer to it and all was back to normal.
once..
It happened to me once (i had xda 2 now for a month)...
I lost data which has no backups.. since I had this 512MB panasonic on all my Ipaq 3970,5450,550,2210,1910, and 4150 and it never fails ...
Now this xda 2 erased it all ... been 2 weeks now and still holding... but I am backung up my SD now once for while..
- my new problem, if my phone portion hangs, and softreset, I got stuck on O2 blue screen and need to hard reset.. last night it happened again and the pda portion still working , so backed up and hard reset...
I still has the 13Q protocol version, I heard someone fix this problem upgarding to 14 ?

I suggest if you can place the card in a Laptop or PC and run Scandisk.
There may even be a Pocket PC program that can do the same thing so you might try doing a web search for one.
Flash Format comes to mind:

HTH
tried all..
:x
I tried all in my laptop, even Norton etc... really nothing left !!
I had the PCMCIA adpter for MS/SD/MMC/Smartmedia..
the FILES ARE there!!
Hi all, please be carefull the files are not ERASED they are there but somehow hidden!!! :!: :?: :!: , it happened to me on my Sandisk 256MB and after a week, things went back to normal and i had all my files accessable, i copied them to my PC and now after a month , the files disapeared again on my SD Card but if you check the CARD you can see that some files are taking space which mean again they are there but not accessable.
a week ??
I dont think I can last a week to wait until my sd files come up again ...
DO you have any quick fix on this issue like rewriting the FAT thru norton or other SW ?
I had checked with my laptop last time and my files really disappeared..
HI
the files are there on the card and they are hidden. They appear to be broken up into 12k chunks... is there any way to recover them?? I'm using a no name 256k sd card and the problem occured after doing a full back up. Incidentally the recovery file is faulty and will no work. I'm not too bothered but i lost loads of photos....
thanks
I'm used to save the files I use most on the SD Card I have on my iMate K-Jam...
These files are mostly NOTES, XLS files, and RECORDINGS...
This morning, without any special behaviour from my K-Jam, I did not found half of the 15 files I had on the card yesterday.
I'm SURE I did not delete them by accident... I was working on them last night before going to sleep and this morning when I searched them they were no more there...
BTW: I have SunnySoft Backup Manager backing up my K-Jam before my waking up in the morning (one hour before I wake up), but unfortunately I thought it was unuseful to backup SD-Card contents on the SD-Card itself... so the only files I can Restore are the ones which were on the most unsafe (till today) support...
Did anyone else report anything similar ?
Could this be a problem of any other kind ?
It's my first time after more than four months of use on this device...
At your disposal for any other further information you would need to investigate this deeper...
Best regards.
All my files disappeared on my 8125. When I check the card memory they were still there taking the space but you could not see the folders or anything. I put it in a card reader and the same thing. Seems the files just disappeared but were on the card. I had to format it and then reinstall all my programs that were on the card. Not sure what happened.
Try out Easy Recover.
I has same problem about 1 month!
My solution was recover files with:
PC Inspector File Recovery
and then format SD.
I think was a program (maybe sonysoft Backup!)... not sure...
i lost my complete my documents folder from my mini sd card recently. lost all of my pics and documents. not a happy bunny.

Had the same thing.
I couldn't figure out WHEN it happened (meaning, files disappeared after I phoned someone, that kind of thing)
What I did, after this had happened for a second time, was, back up my card.
When I found the mini-SD card empty again (but still seeing that 400 or so MB's wher "in use"), I copied the back up, and after I did one file, ALL THE FILES re-appeared in the mini-SD card......
really weird

I am having some trouble with my 4gb card in my XV6800. I have had it since January and been happily adding things to it and deleting them at will. Now I am having a problem with it however. I can add things to it through My Computer etc on windows and it shows up fine. But after a few hours when I go back into it on File Explorer on the phone any changes I have made are not in effect.
This includes both things that I added that are not there, and things that I have deleted that re-appear. Any ideas? It is not helping my wanting to install cabs and set up my UC config as you can imagine.
I know that they are transferring at some point because I m,anaged to install a cab from there last night, this morning, the original cab and folder is gone.
I'd suggest backing up everything currently on the card first, then formatting it using a card reader. Once the format completes, restore your files and see if your problems still exist.
P.S. Any microsd card <= 2gb will work for flashing. Anything > 2gb won't.

I agree with this... backup your storage card, and format it using software on your device such as CNETX FlashFormat... that seemed to do the trick when I was having issues related to the Storage Card
I was getting the error" file protected". I did lots of research, tried to format it in both my phone and laptop to no avail. I used diffrent software, nothing gave. Some people claim that putting clear tape on the SD adapter lock did the trick for them. Anyway, I contacted SD as my last resort, got an RMA and now I am awaiting a replacement. I did a back up and transferred all to 1 GB that I had as a back up.
FYI
I used SD Formatter V2.O and Hard disk Wipe tool (hddguru.com) , Format claimed to be successful but data was always there. This started after I installed TOMTOM maps on the card. Good luck man
there is a cab to enable sd cards over 2GB for the titan
i suggest some searching, if i come across it ill post the link
I have Tom Tom on my card, but then I have done from the start and I have only had the problems pretty recently. My computer wont read the card in the built in card reader in my computer, but it reads the new 1gb one fine.
Also, the phone does recognize it because I can play music off it, I just cannot add files to it or delete from it.
I have tried to format it with CNETX FlashFormat and it doesn't seem to work, everything is still on there as before.
Very annoying, I am going to contact SanDisk
Good idea man, it sounds like you have the same prob I do. Try putting tape on the protection switch on the adapter. It didn't work for me but who knows!
Hi there all,
I am pretty inept when it comes to this technology business so I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this or like this and if so could help me to figure out what went wrong, why and how to fix it a bit easier than formatting the card and hard resetting to reload/reinstall everything... sigh...
So I was just moving some files across to my sd card on my phone when it received a text and when the text was received the folder I was moving the files into all of a sudden had a load of extra folders with weird character combinations (some Chinese characters (not the weird bit) and some of those "forbidden" symbols)... I tried to delete them (about 56 of them) but I was not allowed... I tried to delete them by plugging the phone into the laptop again, still would not let me (this was when I found out you cant name a folder with certain symbols... if only it was me!) and I finally took the card from the phone and tried to access it via the sd card slot on my laptop... could not scan it but could open it... and when I tried to analyse it with computer management it would not go past the folder that this happened to and told me I had a corrupt folder... sigh, so the only thing I could do to get rid of all these extra mystery folders was to format the card using the cmd prompt... that worked thank goodness but I have had to spend all evening reinstalling and reloading everything... what fun... still at least its given me a clean slate so to speak... sorry for the long winded post... any ideas as to what happened?
many thanks
Consider yourself lucky - relatively.
My Xperia toasted a 16GB card to the point where it is totally inaccessible by any explorer system, either on the phone or a PC. Even the format command via command prompt fails (but thanks for that idea).
My replacement card is suffering too - I run Pocket Mechanic's scandisk utility regularly (once bitten, twice shy), and a couple of times now I have had a FAT table mismatch. Thankfully I've been able to copy all the files & folders off the card, reformat it and load the data back on again.
I'm also wondering what is causing these errors. In all my years of PDAs I have never known anything like it - the instability of WM and my Xperia is really disappointing.
I had this problem a few weeks ago . I guessed it was caused by a Chinese program which generated folders repeatedly by accident. Luckly, I could format the 16G SD card and restored all files.
Had Same problem
except it did not happen when receiving a text. I researched a bucn and stumbled across this http://www.datarestore4dummies.com/Index.html. I Purchased the data recovery software metioned on this website, Data doctor recovery. If you cannot get your card reader to read the card you will also need the cardexport software mentioned in the website referenced above. It worked perfectly. You can try the Data doctor recovery software for free to see if it can fix anything on your card but it will not restore anything until you purchase it. You will have to rescan which will take awhile, again.
on another note I have started backing up my storage card using cardexport (it basically makes your storage card while still in your phone look like an external drive) and a free microsoft tool called synctoy.
hope this helps
Jbf5333 thanks for the info re the apps that can help I will look into these just in case... cheers
Hi guys and girls.
i switched to android a while back now and have been really impressed. so much so that i have just bought myself a new 16gb micro sd card as an upgrade to the stock 2gb i recieved......
.... however now i have a problem. i have managed to copy all the files from my old micro sd card over except for what i imagine is the main one.... the data.img file. without this file i basically have to start all over again, re downloading all my apps, re setting all the settings etc and i lose all my messages and emails.
when i try and copy data.img to my hard drive it doesnt like it it comes up with the error I/O device error (0x8007045D)
googleing this hasnt really helped.
has anyone else had a similar problem? also how did they fix it?
if i cant copy my data.img file are there any other ways around having to redownload my apps and program my files etc?
thanks loads
Have you booted in WinMo to transfer these files? USB Mass Storage in Android isn't 100% functional and stable...
hi there,
yeah tried in android, winmob and using a microsd to sd adaptor in my laptop..
....and other ideas?
did the card you bought come with micro SD to SD adapter? that's what I use to copy files to and from my micro SD to my computer.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Try this.
Try this... Zip the file in the native microSD card then copy the file on the new card and at last but not least unzip the file.
thanks for your replys
masta - ive got one of those too and its the first thing i tried... sadly no luck
stanley - yeah i tried this to no avail it begins to zip it then freaks out half way through..... good idea tho
any other thoughts guys?
Boot back up with your old card, run Android, and back everything up with Titanium Backup. Copy the newly created backup folder over to the root of your new card. It's the long road, but it will get you there. Then let it create the new data image in your new card and redownload Titanium Backup and restore your files.
Good luck.
