seems to be kinda fast aswell
wonder if the xda's would support it
If the Xda does support it, I WANT ONE!!!
But the only thing is I'm sure they would cost an abosulte fortune!!
Read speed about 150X (22.5MB/s)!
Write speed greater than 120X (18MB/s)!
Compatible with most Secure Digital (SD) slots used by mobile phones, digital cameras, and other portable digital devices!
WoOoOoOoOoOoOoW
I want this MMC!!
well the xda2 is not fast enough to
do

Write speed greater than 120X (18MB/s)!
even if the card support it
ohh really??
so whats the maximum read/write speed an XDA can operate with when using MMC ?

pocket mechanic can benchmark cards

Can we use the Sandisk 'Ultra' line? If yes, does anybody know if the faster transfer rate of the Ultra card is supported by the XDA?
try using pocketmecanics it got a benchmark tool
and that seem to show that
the xda2 at least use the pretty slow intel xcale internal sd interface
making the xda1 faster when it comes to sd speed
with mechanics you can compare your result with a list of pda's with different sd cards
non of them ever reach ultra speeds
heck they dont even reach the max speed of normal sd cards
if you compare the speed with the same card in a SD card reader
but that dont mean there is not difference in speed
like Sandisk is the slowest thing ever
I'm using a Panasonic 512MB SD Card and it's supposedly faster (and better) than the SanDisk Ultra.
YMMV
I have a Sandisk Wifi + 256 mb card in my MDA Compact and eventhough the driver and such work flawlessly, the wifi performance is very disappointing. With an internet download benchmark I got about 26KB/s througput. I knew the card wasn't going to be fast before I bought it, but I was expecting to get at least something like 100KB/s.
At first I thought the problem was with the card itself, but when I tested an Sandisk Ultra II 256MB SD Memory card with pocket mechanic I noticed that the throughput to the memory card was also very low (0.26MB/s).
The throughput to the supplied mini SD was even worse (0.10MB/s).
Now I am wondering, is there a general problem with the SD bus interface? Can someone verify these results for me?
Or am I mistaken and should I not expect anything more? I did a full SPB benchmark on the device itself and the numbers were even a little better than to some posted in a review.
TIA!
yeah the jam seems to be slow with cards for some reason?!?!
i got a simpletech 10mb read/write one of the fastest and best cards out and i used to get over 1mb read/write on the xda2 with it but on the jam it gets 0.26mb write and 0.78mb read
with my ultra 60x 1gb it only gets 0.23 read and 0.63 write :\
seems so slow
I get similar speeds to this on my XDA II but the SD Card is much faster in an external USB 2.0 reader/writer.
Even worse, I bought a standard speed SanDisk 512k SD card that is so slow, the XDA II can not write to it at all!
I now only buy Ultra 60x or faster SD cards even though you don't get anything like that in performance in the O2 device itself - just reliablilty.
I use an external SD card reader/writer to load it with MP3s etc. I suffer 20 minute backups with Sprite Backup to SD card daily as I have no choice. (I also back up to 2 PCs as well daily - not much faster).

Hi guys!
I've got 2 512M SD memory card:
- Sandisk UltraII 512MB
- Panasonic High speed 512MB
...and I've got 2 device:
- i-mate Jam (QTEK S100)
- Canon PowerShot SD300 camera
Waht's the difference between the 2 SD?
In your opinion the speed are identical?
Is it better to put the Sandisk into Jam or into the camera?
Hi
I read a long discussion about SD card speeds on this site ages ago.. as i understand it, PPC can only read and write at a FRACTION of a slow/normal SD cards read/write speed, so it really makes no difference.. might as well put the biggest, cheapest card you can in it as anything alse is a waste of a memory card...
My own limited experince with a few sd cards i have (bog standard up to sandisk xtreeme III) shows no difference in speed across the cards.
Lovely caemra you have by the way

Thanks!!
Well... I understand that in ppc I can put the slower one but...
Sandisk Ultra II vs Pnasonic highspeed?
What is the faster? (I'll put the faster in my camera!)
It might be a stupid question and might not be...
The X-speed... how much does it affect the speed of the universal?
say - 1G SD X80 / 1G SD (doesnt say speed).
if there is a big difference - what speed is in ur opinion minimum?
10x !
I had a 45x, 60x 1G SD and 155x 4G SD, they are just the same for my Universal , but for my Canon 350d, the 155x can take up to 17 photos at once and the 60x can only take 5 photos at once. I guess the bottleneck is the IO on pocketpc so the speed of SD does not make any difference.
Tommy
10x
thanks a lot !
now i can relax
Hi,
does the Wizard have a maximum transfer speed for access to the miniSD card slot?
I'm looking for a miniSD card, and thinking of whether the Wizard can take advantage of the very high speeds of the latest cards. Is it worth giving the extra money to get a very fast card or not?
Is 150x about the fastest available?
AFAIK 80x is the fastest available miniSD
Im using it (1GB 80x)
Maybe we can do some benchmarks? any good software to test memory?
ATP claims 150x speed

Don't bother spending extra money for a high speed card. Even going back to the earliest days of PPC's, it's all about the PPC's I/O to the media card. The only real advantages of a high speed card is when using with a digital camera or when using the card in a card reader.
I have a Sandisk 1gb card that runs just fine in my K-JAM. On my 2750, I have a 1GB Lexar sd and 1gb Lexar CF.

Thanks! That's an answer for one of my questions. Could you please try to help me a little bit more?
Sorry to ask that way...

You won't be able to use the full potential of fast cards. Please read http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17921 for my article on all this stuff.
I'm glad I found this thread. I've installed some software onto the miniSD card and I noticed they load slower. The worsest problem is now the soft keyboard selection menu takes a full 7 seconds to pull up. I was thinking about buying a faster miniSD to solve this problem, looks like I'll just have to live with it.
