Saw an interesting article on the Bink website (full original site link posted below though).
It mentions that Dell today launched the first Pocket PC's with the new Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition built in.
Still reckon it will be November before we see it on an XDA2 though...

Who can really tell me the different between Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition Software and Windows Mobile 2003 Edition Software - Phone edition. (Technically)
Because recently i saw the spec for the coming xda lls and xda lli, they are using the latest Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition Software.
My friend who is using Ipaq 6300 series - Phone edition, in the brochure they did mention this phone is come with Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition Software but what i see is actually the same as the window mobile 2003 first edition.

The main feature of WMSE is ScreenRotationService - which allows you to rotate your screen to any angle. The other changes are minor and very subjective (stability improvement, speedup and etc)
Hello,
i've read it in web page but can't recall where that win ce 5 is out!?
If yes where can we get it from ?? How can i upgrade my i-mate PDA2k from win2003 se to ce 5??
thanks
windows on pda's is very very unlike windows on pc's
a rom requires to be 100% made for the spc device
so you cant get it ever! unless HTC makes a basic rom and
hand it over to the operators like o2 orange and.....
and about if it's out then i've not come across any pda's with it yet
I have seen a lot of reports, comparisons and evaluations of CE5.
BSquare seem of have CE5 ROMS avcailable for their products :
http://www.bsquare.com/products/bsp/amd_download.asp
Actually, it looks as though CE5(Macallan) was realeasd in July 2004.
You can get a device emulator for it here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...12-CA31-4BE9-A3BF-B9BF4F64CE72&displaylang=en
and an evaluation version of platform builder to create os images for the emulator from here :

Now, they include the hx2000 series, but the hx2110 has got the same amount of RAM that the Magician has. Am I missing something or does this mean that WM 5.0 theoretically would run on a Magician?
Yes nothing to stop it running techinically but it's just getting hold of the right 'flavour' of it for the magician (perhaps the HP one will be close?).
Be content with WM2003 SE - at least it's stable and all the software works. I had WM2005 on my XDA 2 for about a week, and then went back to WM2003SE as nothing worked properly.

If I'd be one of those content guys I'd still be running Windows 3.1 on my computer. I always want to try new stuff and half of my software on my Magician are betas.
I also guess that the version you used was a beta and thus not much worked.

heh, thats why companies have not released upgrades and new devices yet. They need to properly deploy it to each target device so it works* as its supposed to
I have O2 mini. But looks like O2 support is worse.
Everyday I go to their seeo2 website just to check whether they have upgrade for my o2 mini, but the website always say "your current one is up to date".
Well, they must have very intelegent software there that they can detect my o2 mini is version 1.11 WWE instead of original 1.03 WWE
Just my 2 cents

Yes but you _still_ can't run a whole bunch of software right now as it's plain incompatible..

Yeah, that much I understand. We'd need a ROM that is compatible with the Magician before we can use it, and there's nothing that points to that it will ever be released, but _if_ it comes, I'll certainly install it since WM5 now is final and not beta anymore
Hi,
I just read an article in today's issue of Computer Sweden (an IDG paper) talking about the advantages of Push Email with "Windows Mobile 5" and Exchange 2003.
The article says that the manager for Microsoft Mobile devices in Europe demonstrated the Push Email on two phones, "Qtek 100" and Qtek 8010, where one of the phones had "Windows Mobile 5".
Now, I have emailed them to ask the natural question, "WHICH ONE??"
I'll let yuou know as soon as I find out.
Also, the photo of the S100 in the article (a lot bigger in the paper edition) shows a black square with a "W" on the spot where the gprs "G" icon usualy resides. In addition to that there is a small antenna next to the bluetooth icon. I have no idea what this is, I would guess WLAN, but I really don't have a clue. More info to come hopefully.
For those of you who know swedish, the article is at:
http://computersweden.idg.se/Articl...0607144454_CS052/20050607144454_CS052.dbp.asp
The reporter didn't give me a straight answer, he just said that the phones were specially prepared by Microsoft and that none of them is available with WM 2005.
don't know what those icons are, but still wm 2003 se on the s100 in the picture
ask him to rip the wm2005 rom for us!!
we'll keep everything anonymous, tell him we already got wm2005 for xda2.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=22861&start=0
I got an answer now from the reporte,r he said he was not sure since the Microsoft representative was waving with both of them all of the time.
I'm looking forward to testing the new Office Mobile 2010. If anyone knows where I can find cab (or exe) to download I will appreciate.

You can download it from the marketplace, or you can visit these posts for a .cab.
Below is a link to the marketplace where you can get it.

If you're serious about running business-quality software on your PDA, try Softmaker Office instead. It's what mobile documents should be. Even the MS desktop version has very, very little over the mobile version of Softmaker. And the desktop version of Softmaker is every bit as good as MS Office in all respects. And for about $80 you get a license for both the desktop and PPC versions.
Thanks to All. I could have checked Marketplace before asking. Sorry about that.
I couldn't imagine the Beta would be available there for download.
Thank to all of you guys.

Are you in the States?
I have the same problem - it isn't listed in Marketplace, but I am in Canada. I am running an old HTC S620 with a 3VO 6.5 cooked ROM (which runs great and indentifies itself as a 6.5 device)
I have heard that it is only available in the States currently. I am now running the Office 2010 Beta on my desktop (and love it - was using 2003 PRO)

Yes, I second this - Soft Maker has been indispensable for mobile document processing. Its worth every penny you plan to spend!
