Well I managed to figure out what was causing the SmartST software to run rediculously slow on my XDA II.
I noticed that whenever I stopped all programs from running, the Active program would always end up as not responding so I decided to remove the O2 Active user interface and it cured the problem.
It works great totally impressed with it.
WOOHOO
Navman Problem
HI, I have the same problem with Navman. My O2 is running impossibly slow and eventully freeze up. Could you pleas elaborat more on how to " remove the O2 active user interface " ? Your help is much appreciatd.

Navman
Its pretty straight forward, just click on start on your PDA then go to settings, click on the system tab and at the bottom of the screen you will have a remove program icon, this is basically the same process as windows.
You should see in the remove program list three different O2 applications I cant remember there exact names but I'm on Vodafone so I just removed them all, I think there is O2 xmail, O2 UI Active this is the alternative 'desktop' screen for your PDA and one other.
Carry out a soft reset and then launch Smartst it worked for me and I have to say its a great piece of kit.
If this still doesnt work then try uninstalling Smartst and re-installing with those O2 applications already removed.
Hope this helps.

have received my 3rd 2i from o2 uk this week i test the gprs problem and this 3rd device has it so ive rung o2 and will ring them on monday to see if they have tested there model yet
the problem is this if you plug anything in to the bottom of the 2i be it power lead gps data cable then it breaks the gprs conection to only way to get round this is to either turn on flight mode then turn off flight mode or do a soft reset :?
the data support lady i spoke to is going look at it i have her name and extention number so should get some answers ive mentioned this is a device problom and should be referd back to htc the new device is going back and im keep my current 2i the second one i received ill let you know how it goes next weekend as i work away all week as a trucker in the uk
This happens to me as well. What also happens is that if you're connected to a power source like a car charger and you had the original headphone in the jack, the caller will not hear you...nor can you use the speakerphone option.
Luckily I've now got a BT headset that works with the new BT stack on the 2i, but for a few days I was VERY frustrated with the 2i. Now I'm quite happy.
Another thing. When I go to work I use Total Remote to send the IR signal to open the garage doors and I have to take it out of the car cradle in order to point it within 2cm of the sensor (damn non-commericial IR port). When I put it back in the cradle, I get the "ding" sound of having disconnected from something and the o2 active ui is closed as well.
Worth mentioning when you speak to them again. I think it's an OS problem not a hardware issue.
Cheers
Anthony
This seems like it could be a common problem, I've posted a very similar request;-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18890
I do feel that this is a bug in the firmware, hopefully it will be fixed shortly.
I noticed this and it really irritated me. Solution - and it works every time - is a hard reset which you interrupt with a soft reset BEFORE the O2 software is installed. On the soft reset, the XDA2i becomes a unit that connects to GPRS every time which hasn't got the O2 customisation.
I use it with Smartner's push email solution. An excellent piece of software. See www.smartner.com
I don't think its the o2 customisation as I've removed this by disabling the Today screen items and then using the remove software option.
Another item that I find annoying is the screen rotation icon, it randomly disappears, I'm not sure if this is related, soft reset corrects this problem.
Trust me, it is the O2 customisation. I've done three hard resets (just testing various software options) and it works a treat. Beat the O2 crap and it's a perfect phone.
Based on previous suggestions I've carried a a cold reset and then a soft reset prior to the o2 installation, I now have a core XDA IIi without o2 modifications.
Unfortunately this does not solve the GPRS problems when connecting power etc, however it does seem to have improved. The camera is now more buggie...
As this is an intermitent problem I really think it is a firmware bug, abnd have logged it with o2, they are looking into it.
Didn't think it would....there's no reason for o2 to provide that "functionality"...just sounds more like an issue with OS interpreting a charger / car cradle and confusing the hell out of itself.
Ant
spoke to o2 this morning and its something they are looking with htc so a rom update COULD be on the cards for uk customers the problem is on there issue list atleast
I've had a response back from o2 regarding this issue, they said they had tried to reproduce the problem but couldn't, which didn't surprise me but they then suggested that I carry out a Corporate installation ie cold reset and then the corporate install.
Firstly you end up with an XDA IIi with all the applications installed but none of the o2 customisation, but you do manually have to configure the GPRS access point and email.
Having tried this configuration for a day now I must admit, things appear to have improved, the connection is still disconnected when attaching devices, but they reconnect without problems. Before I had to either reset the device or switch in and out of flight mode.
Knowing my luck this will all change tomorrow....
please keep us posted as to how it works without all the o2 crap on there
Thanks
Jonh
Hi,
I've just upgraded my O2 Xda II mini to the latest ROM (1.11) and found a problem.
Previously, I could end a GPRS session by tapping on the icon at the top and then clicking on the "Disconnect" button in the dialog bubble.
On the latest ROM, the "Disconnect" button has gone from the dialog bubble. It's simply not there any more.
I called the O2 Helpdesk and they have not had any other reports of this, and simply told me to hold the red "end call" button. While this works, it also backs me out of application I have open and active, which is a nuisance.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Yes you are right my MDA Compact came with the latest rom from factory and I was wondering why there is no disconnect button...? now I can see that it's common problem in 1.11 made by some mistake or something.
I guess they remove it because of the "GPRS connection problem" as I used to have problem on GPRS re-connection (after disconnected), however, after upgrade to 1.11, the problem no longer exist !
Thanks for your responses, Shamus and waiting4u.
I posted a message on the Mtek forum in Australia and one user there has the latest ROM and does not have this problem. Maybe it only happens to upgraded minis as opposed to new ones that came with 1.11?
Would really like this back. O2 support was no help and didn't even know it was a problem.
But this is obvious stupidy always on GPRS connection drains battery as a charm, I omitted the problem by installing SPB Gprs Monitor but disconnect shoud be implemented in system. M$ stupidy is enormous
PeterW mine MDA came with 1.11 it wasn't upgraded!!!

Hi Shamus,
In that case, it must be a stupid Microsoft oversight. I checked my colleague's Xda mini this morning - he is still running 1.03 ROM, and he does have the disconnect button. Very frustrating.
this little fine proggy finally makes me happy

Thanks Shamus! Will give it a try.

Yes, it works well and gives me back the Disconnect button. Thanks again.
No problem
Sorry for the second post so soon, but I decided to give it a go and popped to my O2 store and get an XDA Exec. I took the XDA home happy, set it on charge, gave a good 10 hours, and upon trying it don't seem to be having much luck - I've tried searching without much luck (either get nothing, or loads of results that have nothing to do with it) so I'd appreciate any ideas.
I booted the XDA Exec up, expecting to be presented with the screen I've read and seen about many times, where you choose between Personal, Basci or Corporate. Instead, I got only two options, just Basic and Corporate - no personal :?
Thinking maybe it was just a different thing, I then let it continue loading up. When it loaded, it completely failed to find any O2 network at all - even though I know there is one and another O2 phone connects straight away. It just continues searching and searching, never finding anything. (Phone is searching for a network to connect to icon). The Sim manager is completely blank, and I'm unable to get any sort of connection at all with it
Out of desperation I even tried the O2 Active software from the programs menu, which launched up a terribly corrupted Today screen (all the icons were broken) which crashed as soon as anything was clicked, leading to needing to do a soft reset due to no other option. I tried it again and same thing.
So far, I like the device, but it's not been what I've expected, and as it was primarily bought for mobile internet, not being able to connect is a bit of a downer . Furthermore, the seeming problems in the O2 software concerns me, too
Does anyone have any ideas? Is there something I'm missing that's obvious? Could the sim not be in properly or something, or could the sim have not been updated or something? I must admit, while I'm not new to Pocket PCs, I am new to phones of this sort, so I'd be greatful for any ideas or advice.
Thanks a lot in advance, I appreciate it
Since the phone is not able to connect to the network,so, most probably, its a SIM card problem. Try putting in some other O2 SIM in it and then try if it works
i would recommend doing a hard reset, and make sure your sim is inserted correctly before doing this.
Cheers, Bryson
i had problems connecting to o2 until they registered the sim card.try ringing them to see if they have done this

hi, i heard the corporate version is the best.. you can also try upgrading to latest rom. or if you already have that, hard reset, or you can even try a reflash.
also you should reseat the sim card & make sure you pushed the lock on it..
I've recently discovered that T-mobile do in fact provide the SPB GPRS Data Monitor Tools for their Vario 2 device. It comes on the application CD and you have to install it yourself.
Unfortunately, my own attempts at this have been unsuccessful. I keep getting a message telling me I need to upgrade my ROM. Rather strange considering no other official ROM has been released for this model yet.
Anyway, I've been fighting with it for a number of days and eventually contacted T-mobile customer service. I'm though to the Technical Escalations team who are looking into it. However, they can't replicate the issue.
What I'd like to know is has anyone else been successful at installing this application on their Vario 2?
ROM 1.21.110.3
Date 06/19/06
I've got it installed on my mda vario II with the same rom as you and had no issues.

Hi. Thanks - did you install it yourself or did it come pre-installed?
Anyone else?

Thanks everyone. Hmm.. good question. Knowing how flaky ActiveSync can be, I did upgrade it straight away. I'm running the latest 4.2. What about you guys?
Well.. I thought I'd have a crack at trying Activesync 4.5
That turns out to perhaps not being the wisest move. As is typical of wonderful Microsoft I've been having all sorts of games with the it. I ended up having to hard reset my Vario 2 again because it was having trouble synching.
Anyway, got it working finally and the result? Even better.. now when I attempt to run the installer it doesn't even show me the GPRS monitor as an optional install! Hah.. gets better and better..
Maybe this only works on ealier versions of Activesync - prior to 4.2? I'm going to have another crack over the weekend on my home PC. I might also roll back Activesync to 3.7 to see if that works any better.
HAHA!! Ok!! Further to above I thought what the heck, fired up the installer again and chose to 'repair' rather than 'modify' to install a new application. Lo and behold it went ahead and attempted to install the GPRS monitor. Result - Success! I now have this working. Go figure!
Hallo, recently I installed a MN 7.3.0 on my Wizard O2 branded working under WM5. At begining it friese the hole phone but then I make a shortcut direct to MobileNavigator.exe and everything works fine.
Problem is at startup it always show TMC message screen and I dont have idea where to kill that
I looked to other forums and experimented with Usersettings.xml without sucees.
If somebody have a hint would be nice
Thanks
