They're to do with the SMS system as I understand it, and in the ROM not RAM. So they can't be deleted.

WARNING. IExplorer cache ate 16 MB!!!!

Hi,
I have many apps installed but only a few in rom(rest of then in SD card). I had 7 or 8 MB free. suddenly today it only had 1 MB free. I was going to uninstall the apps that I installed in rom(informant, weather, etc) but before I looked for big files. And I found the problem:the cache of Internet explorer used 18 MB!!!. I have deleted the files and now I have 18 MB free and my jasjar flies!!. this directory is \windows\profiles\guest\temporary internet.
pd: Do someone know how to configure the size of this cache???
Maybe this will work for WM5???
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\Cache\Content
Change the DWORD Data from 19456 (decimal value) to any value of your preference from 512 up to any given value (BoSJo's default BA value 42929).
Values reflect the size in KB.
Physical plasement = \Windows\Profiles\guest\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
Thanks,l will try it...
Temp. Files saveed in storage Card of Jasjar
My opinion, the best way you can instal Twea2k2.NET with lastest version, you have 3 times for trial. Go to internet tweak/ check: Temp. Files saved in storage Card
www.tweaks2k2.com
That all, good luck!

Sorry can't do much more than that, ain't running WM5 myself
SOLVED
The problem is solved. I couldnt change the size of the cache because windows restored the old value, so i have changed the place where IE place their temp cache files.
Using a registry editor change the key \HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentV ersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Cache
from \Windows\Profiles\guest\Temporary Internet Files
to some place in the SD card. In my case \Storage Card\cacheie and soft reset.
Browse a web and you'll see how IE stores the temp files there.
Probably this isnt the final solution but it leaves my storage rom in peace.....
That was a great suggestion to use the sdcard for ie cache! Got back 10 mb after purging the old temporary internet files.
Yes. Rom is too valued to wasteit with temp files....
thanks, very useful hint
another solution. change registry so that it doesnt cache.
important to protect number of read write cycles of flash memory especially if you browsr alot.

I tried it, but it you set the key "CacheLimit" to 0 or any other value, when you soft reset the device, Windoes restores the old value. Now i am happy storing the cache files in SD card
For this problem:
1. Install tweaks2k2 to move cache files to SD card.
2. Use Memmaid to clean your cache files
3. Get all the space back

Low internal storage

Hi all.
I get a warning that the internal storage memory is about to run out. I've looked around and this is how the memory is divided on my machine:
Storage Card: 968 Mb
Windows: 75.57 Mb
Programs: 21.8Mb
Application Data: 4.34 Mb
TomTom: 2.98Mb
My Documents: 2.26 Mb
Themes: 1.48M Mb
Document and Settings: 752 Kb
smartskey 155 Kb
connMgr 158 Bytes
Temp: 0 bytes
7 Files: 946 Kb
Is the Windows folder really supposed to be 75 Mb ? Theres alot of files in there ( 1442 )
Alot of .dsm and .rgu files what are those? Is there anyway to clean out the files not needed? I have memaid and have run it a couple of times.
Running:
WA2
WAD
PB
PA
POCKETPLUS
RESCO
Thanks !
/d
...try attached program to find your biggest files. Look for temp files etc.
My windows: ±11 Mb
Try to move ie history/coockies/temp to storage card, also all of your 'my documents' contents could help alot...
Hi
Well I know where the memory has gone its the 1442 files in the windows folder. They take up 71Mb. The question is why are there so many and are they supposed to be there?
Its files like this one that makes my suspisous :
1e8762f4-6a6d-4808-bd02-6bde9c092483.dsm
and
1f1aca24-d942-464a-9281-10567741499c.rgu
/d
Same here (on a htc prophet, but this shouldn't be device dependent).
Is there any way to delete these unneeded dsm and rgu files?
When trying to delete them through activesync it tolds me that they are either in use or the device is not writeable...?!

Access Extended ROM on Herald

I tried to set the values manually in the registry - doesn't work
I run EXTROM_Utility - also no new folder visible
Does anybody know guys?
I played a little much with all the dialers but after some experience, I want to load the default HTC one without hardreseting the device.
have you tried using total commander... type 'extended_rom' and it should reveal the files in that folder,
rgds
Jim
Nothing interesting inside ext. rom !
I had a look into the Extended_ROM with Total Commander, but there is nothing to use inside or it is hidden. I`ve seen the following :
...
- Config.txt with 162 bytes
- MP_CVSDcpl_20060920.cab with 95.2 kbytes
- PP_DefaultPage_WWE.cab with 61.7 kbytes
- PP_ExtVer.xml with 292 bytes
...
Rom Version is : 1.8.407.1 GERMAN

What I actually did was changing some values in registry using Resco Explorer:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
Set "Bootphase"=dword:00000002
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
Set "MountHidden"=dword:00000000
Wait for 4-5 seconds for settings to take effect and soft reset your device.
Nothing interesting was actually in the ExtRom thow:
MP_CVSDcpl_20060920.cab
PP_DefaultPage_WWE.CAB
ST_re_v2.CAB
ST_STK_UIPPC_v4.31.CAB

How to delete from /Windows/ ?

I am trying to save storage memory on my diamond. I want to delete the /Windows/ files Album Sample 01.jpg thru Album Sample 13.jpg which will free up several meg.
tried unsuccessfully with Total Commander...
any one help?
thanks
This means that they're in ROM and cannot be deleted
What you could do is make a image thats very small in data and rename to file names and overwrite with Total Commander.
You can do the same with music thats in ROM too zero length .mp3's
Hope that helps.

smart but useless, since in this way you don't save anything: overwriting ROM files with smaller ones doesn't reduce disk usage but, vice-versa, increases it (since you'll still have the ROM files AND the new ones) also if only of some bytes

Ah i get you as the files have to still be there for the ROM to be able to rewite the file, know what mean
Good idea though
I don't get you, stylez. "Overwriting" ROM files is only a verbal expression, since you don't really overwrite anything. When you copy to \windows a file that has the same name of a ROM file, simply the system reads the one on disk instead of the ROM one, that (simply for being in ROM) is still there and cannot be changed/edited/deleted.
So, if you "overwrite", for example, the abc.bmp ROM file with a 0 byte abc.bmp, the original one is still in ROM but the system don't read it anymore: instad it reads the 0 byte abc.bmp. And being a 0 byte file, you don't waste disk space, but as the same time you don't gain new space: you can try and see the free space before and after an overwrite with a 0 byte file

You misread me as i agreed with you "not in the right terminology"
Thanks for expanation
Sorry for a quick idea that doesn't work and if had of thought about it logically would have known "spending too many hours editing .dll & .cprs"

I always do any manila file tinkering on my desktop PC instead of the phone...just copy the full set of manila files to a folder on your PC, edit them from there, and copy back to the phone. Much easier to manipulate, and to create a backup for safety's sake.
