Change XDA 2 IMEI - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Is it possible to change the IMEI of an XDA 2 phone?
Would the original XDA Manipulator Program work for this?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=6697

I read through that, and nowhere in that forum does anyone actually say how to change the IMEI number.

well some say in that post that it's taken from the hardware on the xda2 and you could only change it in xda1 where you could overwrite the hardware IMEI
if there is another way i dont know
also i would prob have put this post in that other forum since it's not all that general and will disappear from the visible part of this forum pretty fast unless you bump it a lot until somebody who knows more about the inner workings of the xda2 comes along and see your question
the reason i guess is that the IMEI is like a mac adress on a nic TEHRE CAN BE ONLY ONE!
and it's suppose to be sendt along with the sim code when you call somebody and the police use it to track stolen phones and such

just a word of warning.... changing the imei is completely illegal in the UK!!!

Can anyone confirm or deny this? Others have said it is very similar to the arrangement on the XDA...

I believe it can be done, its just that nobody has done it yet. When you think about it there are very few reasons why you would want to change an imei, to unblock a stolen phone, to unblock a phone that has been subject to insurance claim. On my old xda I changed my imei to my birth date but now I can get 5 years in jail and a huge fine for doing that because the law is aware also of the reasons that people do it and took steps in an attempt to stop people being robbed of their phones by making it harder to find somebody to reprogram imei, who is going to risk 5 years jail for £10.

Can HTC block a phone?

Hi all, i had a bad start to the new year...some teenager snatched & ran away with my Touch Dual this morning (dawn,it was dark).
Anyway, my Telco can only deactivate the SIM card. I called HTC to check if thr was a way to BLOCK the phone in anyway...but their office is closed as its new years day.
Any1 has any ideas wat i might be able to do? I dnt think i'll see it again but its really disappointing. some luck huh?
p.s. I intend to get another touch dual the soonest i can afford it..

What do you expect from them to block? I think you want something that's not possible. However, I know that in Holland, the police somtimes sends a sms-bomb to the IMEI number of a stolen phone. I don't know where you're from. but maybe the police in your country can do that to. It seems very anoying to me to receive lot ant lots of sms messages about using a stolen phone
i thought it was up to your network to get the imei barred? if your network wont help i doubt if HTC will do much.
Go to Police with your IMEI!
the IMEI is also on the box the device came with
i was under the impression you can break a phone if you have its imei
I'm sorry...

I can't believe the nerve of that little jerk. Your bad experience just gave me an idea. I once put an app on my Magician that when a different Sim card was inserted into my phone, it would send me a text/email with the telephone number of that Sim. I never had to use it so I can't say for sure that it actually worked. I guess I should've tested it. But anyway, my point is; I'm going to find that app and post it for all.
Can't wait until you get your Dual back.

yep, i came across that software before too..now i wish i had tried that. (well, another lesson in life!)..my only saving grace is i have everything i need backed up. with the IMEI number, which i already gave the police, the only way the thief will be caught if he tries to sell to a 2nd hand mobile phone shop.
by the way, im in Singapore, one of the lowest crime rates in the world. but hey, still, low crime doesnt mean no crime.
oh my, i miss my phone so much...haha..now i can just laugh about it. i just checked the retail price of the dual here...it will cost me about USD 700. sigh...
luckycris0,
if u find that app, pls post it here...thanks..
after this lesson, i will use that, if not for anything....just for karma.
Phone tracing app
Press coverage of same
Hope that helps.
Here's an app that's similar to what I was talking about in my post earlier. The trial version is available from handango.com and it's about 25usd to purchase. Give this a try. I'm certainly going to on both my Nike and Polaris. I'm still going to try and locate the app so you all don't have to pay for it but since that time, I've changed laptops countless times, but I always save everything to disc so we'll see.
thks
thks guys...i will definitel try these apps...once bitten twice shy!
ystrday, i jus bought myself another TOUCH DUAL!...got it at a better offer..had 2 sign a new 2year contract for another telco line...& gave the line to a loved one to use...
Uhm.
I read a few years back that your operator can block the whole phone, not just the SIM card. Never needed to use it, I have no idea if it really works.
Bad luck!
Anyway, thx guys for the app! can really be handy!
will one of these appz survive after a flash or hard reset? guess not So, they are pretty useless in front of phone guardian for symbian in example

I don't know, but I just submitted about 20 made up ones, all with a temporary email address.
It would be a shame if other people did the same
What they do is to use your real IMEI in a Phone, probably a knock off of apple, htc, nokia and so go on. Fake mobile phones ; )
Any luck? if true it would be great. I don't know why though I think it is some sort of scam.
So?
So what's the big deal if they use your imei in some fake phone? Are there any ramifications for the owner of the imei

Other than the system will not let duplicate IMEI's work at the same time, so if someone clones your phone, you could end up with a non working phone ...
OR the worst case , it does let them on and they get your calls and vice versa ...
So legally I don't think it would hurt the original owner, but could end up hurting in other ways ....
May be they need personal emails, not imei nubers.
For fishing, hacking and ...... etc.
I got my free unlock straight from T-mobile themselves.

hi. could you please tell us, how one can do the same, without having an actual t-mobile number (without signing in to their site)?
Will appreciate.
Doesn't T-mobile have a web chat on their support page, and I think you can just get an unlock code that way, provided you've been a customer for a year or something like that.
I read they will actually request the unlock code from HTC. I did it 3 weeks ago and I got the unlock code in the next 24h so I believe it is reliable although not instant if you're a TMO customer. you might as well try to contact HTC if they have a customer service in your country.
My problem was then that my phone never asked for the unlock code so it happened to be useless. I don't know if it's because I have a custom rom on my phone or what but it never prompted me for the unlock code although I followed the steps they recommend (shut down, insert different sim, turn on...)

FAKE IMEI

since everybody knows that changing the imei of the phone is illegal..
how about faking the imei so i can get the most out of the data plan of my grandfathered tmobile android phone
is there any trick out there?
please i need help this is driving me insane to a whole different level that have never reached before ((((((((
I didn't hear anything like this, but I don't think it is possible. Maybe you can modify the Android source to let you set the imei, but I'm not sure
Sent from my GT-I5700 using XDA Premium App
I think faking imei won't help you. IMEI identifies phone, not the "person". SIM card identifies the "data plan" you want to use.
IMHO you are looking for sim card cloning / spoofing. But both simcards can't be "online" at the same time so it won't work, possibly will get both sim cards banned.
But feel free to try
NO sim clonning that sounds criminal, i dont need that.
i want to make think tmobile that my imei is a different imei because the system
seems to recognize that i have an Android device within their database of
imeis registred.. so they want me to sign up for
their Android Data Plans :/
when i put the sim card on my Windows Mobile phone it works like a charm
so i would like to fake that i have the imei of my windows phone on the android
so it picks the unlimited plan that i have..
it would have to be a build/rom or app for android that does the trick
but it would have to be reversible if i dont want to have the feature anymore
i'd like to know if this is possible?
if that's the case i'm sure other people other than me would be interested on it
too, there are a lof of people that have the tzones and/or the 9.99 plan and are
having to stick to their winmo devices... or a nexus one.
according to my knowledge imei changing is illegal, probably can be done (dunno how), but you won't learn how to do it here.
Sr. that's why i said what i said on the first post
im not trying to achieve change the imei, i'm trying to fake it.. thanks.
sir your first post is invalid because:
"since everybody knows that changing the imei of the phone is illegal."
you are not supposed to discuss it here.
"how about faking the imei so i can get the most out of the data plan"
you know it is illegal and yet - you asked this next question?! how is faking imei to get most out of the data plan suddenly not illegal?
IMEI faking could be used for legalization of stolen cell phones and ofc there is no guarantee you don't want to do the same, even though you will reply to this post and say something else.
há, you think by saying this "even though you will reply to this post and say something else" you are ahead of the game?
get a life..
sugestions please....
Get the new plan??
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
Can't afford it :/
Ahhh.... That's a bit weird from tmobile... Do you know if you'll be able to ring them up and negotiate something?
i work picking strawberries for less than minimum wage, but i live in méxico
i go back and forth using my tourist visa.. i was able to afford the 9.99 plan
but can't afford a 30 dlls plan............

This may seem harsh, but you basically answered your own question. Faking the imei is still illegal and dishonest. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it.
You're trying to fix the wrong problem. You don't need a fake imei, you need a better paying job.
better paying job... i know! :'(
i may still have to stick to my horrible windows mobile phone that crashes all the apps :'(
thread reported because of asking for illegal activities.
now stop crying here on xda and go get a life... oh I mean - go get a better job

IMEI fraud - any counter measures?

Majority of people selling phones over the Internet these days, take actual pictures of the device along with its box, and the IMEI is often visible. I m guessing there is a certain amount of fraud associated with IMEI - so what can be done to prevent such fraud? Assuming that someone's bought a device who's IMEI is revealed to someone with a malicious intend. E.g. phone gets blacklisted for no apparent reason. Any way for legitimate users to protect themselves in such scenarios?

Just can't get round my head why would someone be so naive and post IMEIs like that. They could blur it out and mention something like 'clean IMEI'. No need to make it that easy for scammers!
OK - so there is this: http://www.checkmend.com/uk/
Might be useful running a check prior purchasing a new phone. Dunno if it actually works on brand new devices. But since IMEI fraud could also affect a new device, I don't see why not...

I believe that since it's a demo unit you're not going to be able to use it. Except for wifi and bluetooth of course.
An IMEI is kinda important.
Out of curiosity... where did you get this?

Because if it was sold to you from someone then a reward might be available for the apprehension of the person that had stolen it and you would have valuable information.
Also, it is against forum rules to assist anyone in unlocking or tampering with an IMEI an any way especially for a stolen device. Since it appears to be that way, you're on your own. So good luck!

Certain stores sell these out if it's excessively supplied by Samsung. It's supplied by samsung on an entirely free no-agreement basis, since they are not expected to survive after the device reaches EOL (LED Burn-in, Customer Damages.. etc).
So the OP may not have necessarily stolen it, but may have obtained it in a clearance sale.
And of course, No. There is no reward involved as the device itself is designed without an IMEI so that the general public may not get to use it.
As all ready posted if it's a demo unit then basically all you have and will have is a wifi tablet. There is no IMEI number for the device and any attempt to use a different one is illegal. Really hope you weren't ripped off with it but as IMEI changing is illegal I will have to close the thread
