Networking - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Sorry, but can someone tell me why do networking with my XDAII..like what benefits as I still get Internet connection over bluetooth

it's faster
you dont need a bluetooth and activesync for it to work it will work on any wifi network
did i mention how much faster it is ?
it's more reliable then bluetooth which always seem to give people trouble from time to time

how do I share files over bluetooth when connected to my pc. like see files i ve shared on my pc? thx

The only program I have ever tried to perform this task is called PocketLANce. This will install a server on your machine that runs in the system tray and gives an interface on your XDA that is similar to Network Neighbourhood. It works ok, but was a little unpredicatable on mine. Prolly through my own fault though.
Good Luck,
Rob.
PS.. If anyone knows of a similar app for use over wifi, please let me know

Was this using Bluetooth then? If so, cool! I didn't think the XDA2 had the right BT profile to allow LAN networking over Bluetooth. It's something that Tobias is working on with his Pocket Bluetooth Tools, but it wasn't available last time I looked.

Wake on 'Wan'

Anyways to get wake on LAN going via my JAMin, whilst I am away from home ie outside my Wi-Fi connection, Ive seen a few programs around, but they dont seem to want to use my GPRS, unless im just being a clodd of course....? Any Ideas?
Cheers
Edit: Sorry should be more specific, have tried software called WOL, Wake on PocketPC, Pcoket Lan, and vxUtil. Not in any great depth yet, but still anyone have any experience with this?

Try to manually establish the data connection before using depicus Wake On Pocket PC (e.g. by opening Opera browser...).

Streethawk: War-driving

I found streethawk out on the modaco forums and was wondering if is a viable option over hitchhiker. Anyone know anything about compatibility with wm5? Usability?
doesn't work for me just says "waiting on WCZ to be free" forever and doesn't show any networks. (or was it WSZ? i can't remember)

Mine said the same, couldnt be arsed to try to get it working. Hitchhiker works perfectly for me.
Doesn't work here also.
Too bad....looked like a nice little app
Hitchiker always crashes after it's found the network for me. On an O2 mini s.
On my Qtek 9100 HitchHiker behaves strangely also. It usually finds half the APs WiFiFoFum does, and it NEVER connects. Also, on exiting it borks the PDA, and I have to manually remove it from memory to get things going again.
Is there anyone with a Qtek 9100 out there who has HitchHiker actually working and can suggest a reliable operating procedure?
Also, are there any other wardriving (WITH connecting feature) which actually work?
Well, I haven't tried Streethawk but it's disappointing that won't work.
I've had hitchiker running just fine on my wizard, though. I didn't do anything special but I exit just fine and while I only connect at my house it's able to do that just fine. I'll try doing a comparison sometime of the two war-drivers and see how many networks each gives me.
Couldnt get Hitchiker to work on my Wizard. Get a message about and error and the program has to close. This happens just after it has found an access point and tries to connect.
i find that WiFiFoFum works good for me, version 0.3.3.3 i think, if you go for the nicer looking version 2 then you have to install .net compact framework version 2 as well. plus if you connect a GPS unit then you can try and triangulate the signal
WiFiFoFum is great, but only to scan for APs. It doesn't have a simple way to select one of them and connect to it - or am I missing something?

No it's true - really annoying in a multiple network area if you want to hit a specific AP.
Yes sorry i forgot that, it doesnt allow you to connect, but i did find that it logs AP even if they have only got the WEAKEST signal or you only see it for a split second so you can then go in search. if im bored i go looking for AP's using WiFiFoFum and then try to connect using a combo of 'PockLan' which allows you to ping and search a range of an IP subnet and also map a drive of a share (the mapping is abit flacky) otherwise i use RescoExplorer to map the drive bacause its good at it.
Does anyone try and connect while wardriving or are you just looking?
P.S i am still looking for a good BlueJacking software for windows mobil, for symbian there are loads of good one like BTEXPLORer and SMan
Anyone know any? apart from 'smurf'

Trinity(HTC3600) vs. Apple Osx

Hi Guys finally i get this nice device but it seem to don't like my MacBook..
For Sync i used the Missing Sync programm and all work Good but for going in Internet using my Trinity as a modem it NO WAY...
Who can slove this problem?
Have you try to use it as a Modem for an apple copmputer?
Thx a lot Guys!
Try this: go to Settings, Connection, USB to PC and uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality". This way the phone should be recognised as a USB modem.
(I don't have a Mac so I haven't tried this myself)
thx i try it but it doesn`t work!
I try on xP and i have the same problem!

I certainly have been trying... the first thing that I find is that when I connect it to the Apple using the USB cable is that it doesn't recognise it. Has anyone had more success with this? The only problem is that I can't remember what happened when I first connected it - perhaps it asked me to set up a connection and I got it wrong. This is my first return to Macs in ten years, so I was a little overwhelmed by trying to get familiar both with it and with a new phone (Dopod D810).
If I did set up a connection... (!) then I think the connection is called "SerialPort-1", and the network report says that it is configured, but not connected. I don't seem to be able to delete it and start again. Maybe the Mac isn't even recognising the USB connection?...? Any feedback would be much appreciated!
This has been discussed many times - no DUN service with Trinity ...
But no problem going online with your MacBook. Make sure you update to the latest OSX.
Then delete old bluetooth connections to Trinity on your MacBook and reconnect using bluetooth
Then start Internet connection sharing on your Trinity - then click on the bluetooth symbol (top right) on your MacBook and choose the New Option connect to Bluetooth Pan (your owner name)
Hope it helps

Internet Connection Sharing with OSX (avoiding WIFI?)

I have an issue with my MacBook Pro and my Hermes. I want to share the internet connection from the phone but have issues with each solution I have attempted so far
Wifi - I was using the Wifirouter application successfully until I was advised that the channel on which it is operating is conflicting with an essential wireless router in the area. I cannot therefore use it. I cannot see any way of changing the channel.
Bluetooth - There seems to be an issue with the MacBook Pro bluetooth which causes the connection to be unusable.
USB - This would be my preferred solution however there doesnt seem to be a way to allow the Mac to use this connection.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Aidan
Found this and wondered whether this could possibly work with OSX?
Anyone got any ideas?

I dont suppose there are any Mac gurus here? I am having difficulty compiling the source due to the inability to locate /lib/modules. I presume there is an alternative location on OSX?

Yes I am (6.1) with no problems using it. Make sure that you get the modem scripts copied over (to Library/Modem Scripts), shut down the computer, plug up the phone and put it in modem mode, then start the computer (with phone connected). Go into the System Preferences and click on the network icon and it should say new port detected.
FWIW, I have OS X 10.4...
Hi Kenny,
I have the USB modem option in my control panel and I have seklected the Mobile Stream GSM script and disabled the wait for dial tone. The number I am dialing is *99#. I am getting "A modem error occurred. Please verify your settings and try again".
Any ideas? I am running the USB Modem util on the phone at the same time....
Cheers

What Mac OS? Are you using Leopard???
Yep, I am running Leopard....

hi guys,
perhaps I am blind too, but I can't find anything here that would help me.
I am looking for a Software that helps me controlling my Mobile Device (HTC Touch Diamond) from my Computer, via internet. I search a software like VNC but working in reverse!!! So, i need to run a program installed on my diamond while the phone is several miles far from me
Does anyone know there something helpful?
Thanks a lot
P.S. sorry for my english....
Use VNC server (pocketvnc) instead of client.
vnc connection problem
hi HwangPL,
thank you very much for your replay. After your post i've downloaded pocketVNC server version 1.4.2.0(demo version), but i'm not be able to use it. The vnc client on my pc says "connection failure". I think I'll go crazy before sunday......
If you or anybody else have a solution please post it!!!!!!!!!
Thank you one more time.
Try to use old VNC Viewer on your PC. I cannot connect when my mobile phone uses GPRS connection, but it works with WIFI.
I cannot test it right now, cause I don't have any WIFI connection (it surely worked some time ago).
I'll try to test it tomorrow maybe
I think there are a lot of problems with the type of connection. I use a hsdpa connection with my diamond, while my pc is connected to internet with another mobile phone that works with an umts connection. I'm not sure how to configure the firewall. However i'm not sure how to configure the tabs of vncpocketserver. I think that's why i'm not understand very well english (i'm italian) and on the web i didn't found anything wrote in my language.
So, you are my only, precious, last chance......

OK. I used vncserver v.1.4.5.0 demo, on my pc VNC Viewer Enterprise E4.5.1 via WIFI (on mobile as internet connection) and it worked. Goodluck!
hi, i came back!!!
Finally i've found the solution. The problem is the IP address. My operator doesn't give me a public IP but a NAT address. This is a very big problem because the phone can't accept any type of connection by the web. Fortunately i found a beutiful program called "Hamachi" that works on both the computer and the PocketPC. So i resolved my problems.
Thanks very much to all for suggestions.....
Hey there,
I am having i think a small problem with both SOTi and My mobiler.

Hi
Strange nobody else having same problem.
I believe the reason with the no preview its due to the autofocus, can anyone check on this.
Tks in advance
